I used to think that Downtown Comics Castleton and Circle City Comics (formerly) used to be my favorite comic shops, but now Comic Carnival is my favorite comic shop to visit! It also a perfect shop for pop culture fans. I love the selection of new and old comic books that I can find (such as Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, etc.), the good customer service I can provide, how much any of the comics cost, and everything else that makes it fun to visit! I sure hope a next comic shop will be my second favorite like Comic Carnival! read more

I can never resist a comic book store, or any nerdy store in general, so when we happened upon Comic Carnival, my husband and I had to stop. They had lots of comics, ranging from new to older and cost only $1. They also had heroclips, d&d books, dice, funko pops and even some manga. The employee was chill and chatted with us about comings and trading cards while we looked around. I ended up setting on a Jughead comic because I grew up on Archie comics. That of course started the Riverdale tv show conversation. The employee was definitely someone who is perfect to work at a comic book store. He's not overbearing with asking if u need anything but also keeps up the conversation. I am hoping to come back soon. read more

A great comic book store! Walking in and seeing Spiderman with his web shooting across the store is great to see first thing. They have games, comics (obvi), back issues, trades, and cheap comics too. Plus toys! The staff are phenomenal. The shop even produces its own zine/comic that shoppers can pick up. Comic Carnival supports the zine community in Indy and helps to sponsor events, plus they sell zines as well. I appreciate companies that give back to their community. I picked up some B and C covers of my favorite comic (The Wicked and Divine) that I hadn't seen elsewhere + scored an indie comic that I hadn't heard of, but looks great. It's tucked into a shopping center that is in the same large parking lot as Wal-Mart, so it is easy to find on 71st and Keystone. read more

After years of kind of avoiding Comic Carnival due to less than wheelchair friendly quarters in their hole-in-the-wall location within a strip center at 72nd & Keystone, I'd noticed recently that they'd left that spot, a spot filled with lots of personality but one that just didn't allow me to move around comfortably. They stayed in the same strip center, though the new spot about halfway down the building has less of a hole-in-the-wall feeling and a whole lot more room for a guy like me. There are benefits to both locations, of course. The former spot "felt" like a comic book joint, though even they would tell you that the spot hindered comfortable shopping even for those who could walk. It was kind of like the Subway that used to be right next to it - it was functional, but there were much better options. In the new spot, you can tell that they've upgraded the atmosphere and are doing what they can to maintain personality despite a "brighter" and bigger window and a much less hole-in-the-wall feeling. The products are more easily displayed and you could tell customers, even on a Sunday afternoon, were more relaxed and actually taking their time with the products. Personally? I loved it. I also loved being able to go into a comic book shop and say "Hey, I'm looking for this comic book that a friend of mine wrote." I didn't even know the name of the comic book (Yeah, I suck as a friend). Heck, I even momentarily forgot my friend's name (I really do suck a friend). I finally opened up my social media accounts, got my memory triggered on my friend's name and within moments the staff had been able to track down electronically the comic book series I was seeking - they had 2 of the 3 copies and offered to track down the one that wasn't in stock. I bought the two they had in stock and continued looking around. Oh, and I mentioned another friend who I thought had written a graphic novel - I wasn't sure (Have I mentioned I suck as a friend? But hey, at least I bought that first friend's comics!). They couldn't track down anything written, though they did see the movie that she'd made that served as its source material. I was super impressed with staff - they were friendly, low key, helpful and treated everyone delightfully. I listened as they took a phone call and apologized when they didn't have as much information as they thought they should (but way more than I'd ever have had!). They layout was very wheelchair friendly and the strip center has always been good with curb cuts, etc. They serve up a WIDE variety of comics (including non-Marvel/DC/superhero stuff like Archie, etc.). They have novelties, toys, various decorations, and just about everything your comical heart could want. I also couldn't help but notice that their website is actually helpful and explains when they have in-store demonstrations, offers reviews, and they even occasionally do movie ticket giveaways (Kubo and the Two Strings was the most recent). I am likely not the Comic Carnival target audience. I'm not regularly in the comic world, though I am a film critic and see pretty much all comic-related films. However, this location really has something for the casual comic fan and the hardcore folks. They have knowledgeable staff who will go out of the way to help you out, though they're also "accessible" to all - they aren't so geeky that you get an inferiority complex entering the place. I may not be back a lot, but I'll definitely be back. read more

Admittedly, I'm not a tradition comic book reader. My geek credibility is fragile enough so I've been scared to actually go into a comic store. However, after falling in love with a series of novels, I discovered there were companion comics to supplement the series characters. After an disastrous call to a competitor store, I called Comic Carnival to see if they either had the series in stock or could order it. They were great, and ordered it right away. A week later, they called to let me know it was in and it was being held at the desk for me. When I came in, they recognized my voice and pulled out the comic before immediately offering to order the rest of the series for me. They were friendly and welcoming, and made me feel like my lack of knowledge of the medium didn't matter. They even showed an interest in the series which completely erased my insecurities about being there. The staff (I didn't catch the guy's name, but Kelsey is the lady) are focused on helping customers enjoy what they read and finding something good. They even made a recommendation for another series that I'm enjoying so far. I just got the call that my next volumes are in and I'm so excited to go back and visit again. Thank you guys! By far my favorite comic book store in the city. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be "authentic." It feels like an old school comic book store. The sort where everyone is welcome, the smell of paper wafts at you the second you walk in, and the staff knows their stuff. If I want something special, I call or tell the guys at the register what I'm looking for. They do their best to track it down. I prefer this over searching for a book on Amazon. Not only could the Amazon product be not as good as advertised, but I want to support a local business with local employees. The staff here is crazy nice and fun for geeky chats. I prefer Comic Carnival over Downtown Comics, but you'll see me check in a DC more often because of convince of their locations. But this is by far my favorite comic store. Comic store trips are always a sensory over load for me, but it helps that this store is more organized and browsing is just a straight walk down one wall and back to the front on the other. I don't feel like I'm in a maze or doing an obstacle course navigating through the store. I wish they could move this whole store closer to my neighborhood. Or can I just move in? read more

This is a great comic book store! It looks small from the outside and being in a strip, but once you're inside, it feels much bigger. It has a fun feel to it like you would think a comic book store should have as opposed to some of them that feel kind of dark and dreary. They have a great selection of product, and if they don't have it, they will try to help you get it. The staff is friendly and helpful. read more

So I just moved to Indy about a week ago from Austin TX and was nervous I wouldn't find a descent comic shop like I had found in Austin here. Boy was I relieved when I stepped inside of Comic Carnival! The staff was very welcoming and helpful. I found everything I was looking for and the stuff I couldn't find the staff looked a little harder and found it for me. I am a huge toy collector too and was in all at the awesome selection they have. My concious had to tell my credit card to calm down a little they had so much cool stuff... Very helpful clerk but I felt that I was being served by a Chick-fil-A employee. Odd personality for sure. I also had to dig through stacks of new releases just to find the title I wanted. I've been a customer of Comic Carnival since I was able to walk to the store in Broad Ripple as a kid in the 80s. You don't get better than this! Whether you're looking for something super hero related, sci fi, fantasy, or just general nostalgia, the folks at CC will either have it for you, or as others have said, will find a way to get it. Their employees have tons of knowledge on their product, great opinions when you don't know what to get, and they're fantastically kind and fun to be around. Comic book stores don't get any better than this! Once you enter the store, you realize every nook and cranny is covered with merchandise! The spacious store has a large selection of comics including new arrivals and back issues. Also included are character busts, action figures, game playing cards and even dvds to boot. The area is easy to navigate to find your specific comic and if you can't, comics can be ordered if available. The only negative with this store is buying comics from a pull list. Each month you must communicate what comics you want for that particular month (Picking from a list, then paying for them), rinse and repeat. I understand why and it makes sense but it just seems like a hassle to do it every month. Though no worries, I don't have a pull list and I just buy comics when they hit the stands. I even went one week later when the initial books were released and were able to purchase them due to the surplus issues they buy. Keeping books in-stock isn't a problem for them! Overall, a great store with some flaws that can be easily overlooked! read more
