It's ok. Small room, very clean, but one of those "shared" door rooms. We may as well have opened the door for the poor baby having a meltdown, and realized we would have to whisper the rest of the evening due to the obvious lack of privacy. Service was great but we did have to ask what was wrong with the AC when we couldn't get it to work (they have to turn it on at the front desk) and a coffee packet that needed replacement. Bed was very comfy! Breakfast was a bag of carbs and a water. But coffee pot in the room was a bonus. And microwave and fridge. It would have been nice to tell us about the lack of a hot breakfast when we checked in. That's why we picked a higher priced place on Hotwire. Also short-staffed. Overall a good place to stay.

Very clean very nice! I rested well! In addition to the hotel they have a nice little bar right inside the door. You can even take a bottle to your room and wind down. (You will see my Stella in the pix!) Room was very spacious and clean. Nice little kitchenette inside. My only complaint per se is that on Saturday breakfast is not served until 0700 . (That's ok as IHOP is right around the corner!)

I always stay at this hotel when I come to Texas. And if I had to sum it up in one word I'd say it was the "atmosphere". The staff are friendly, helpful and have a positive attitude. The rooms are clean and smell clean and fresh. All of which makes for a relaxing and a peaceful stay. Regardless of why I'm here.

They must have an awful problem with theft but this still seams tacky.

While for a comfort in this place has been updated but still needs an attention to detail.

At it's lowest temp of 60* & still didn't cool well. I mentioned this to Laura.

Upon arrival, the check in was a fast & easy process. The room we had was two queen beds on the second floor. Not sure how long this hotel has been here but you can tell the effort with upgrades has been done from past lay outs. I will clarify one simple post that I recall reading about the shades for window panel. I asked up front about this because a lot of light was coming in and at first sight, it looks like there is no way to pull the drapery in to shut out the lighting. There IS a third layer, so if you want the room darker, look at the very back and you will see the wands on the very back (past sheer ones) to omit light from coming in. The a/c unit made the stay uncomfortable. It stays on for 4-5 min., stops for about 10 min. and that's it's cycle time. (this is when the unit is "on", not on auto) The beds were ok. The mattress shifts, so we would occasionally have to set it right. The fitted sheet either shrunk or it was never the right fit. Pillows came in a super small size and one normal but both uncomfortable. The fixtures depending on what room it is, are not done with quality. The first room we stayed in, you could literally see the hole behind the light/ceiling fan switch plate. Scrapes and chipped paint on walls. Visible dings, holes, etc. that were just painted over. Ceiling fan cord to adjust speed of fan was too high to reach and you could barely adjust it standing on the bed. One of the coffee tables seemed like it had a broken leg support. (wobbled bad) Sink by microwave area was missing the cap on the cold knob. You can see wood finish by the refrigerator. Refrigerator worked ok. Areas in the bathroom that surround the doorway are rusted/cracking/peeling. Something was on the shower wall but their was a glare in my pic so you may not notice and I don't know if it's just shower residue or product of some sort not wiped/cleaned properly. The door is extremely close to the toilet. You can see the wood frame cut outs under sink. The base of shelf was not cut to fit so you can see the gap on one end. Our view was of a strip club, lol! I did like that the room was spacious w/a small coach w/pillows. We ended up staying another night in a totally different room. We were so tired from traveling from Colorado and didn't want to bother driving/looking for another hotel and I had already looked at a lot of hotels in the area before our vacation. This hotel and another seemed to be the better choices. I had assistance from Laura w/our second room on the first floor, 2 queen bed layout, at a discounted price. Very nice lady and willing to listen to issues w/room, etc. and help accommodate the stay. Very apologetic and easy going. The pool/hot tub could use some cleaning attention on a daily basis. Ensuring chlorine levels are good and visually that there is nothing gross (small wads of hair) in hot tub floating around or anything left poolside that should either be thrown away or placed in a lost and found. With that being said, some people are just inconsiderate. Pick up after yourselves. Again, I can tell this hotel has been around for awhile w/attempts to improve and that is a good thing! Towels were available, the pool is heated which is nice. It also has a mini version of a waterfall coming off of the hot tub area. Paint is chipping inside the pool but we enjoyed our swim w/the kids. I like that it has card key entry. There is also a small outside area w/lounge chairs. At night the outside area is lit up in a neon blue. Looks cool. Breakfast was almost over by the time I was able to make it. My littles were all asleep so my hubbs told me to go eat. Sadly, they didn't miss much. Not enough syrup for a single waffle. Barely enough mix to place in griddle maker but I understand I went down about 20min. before breakfast was over. Fruit was alright. I only grabbed an apple. I found something floating in my apple juice after my second serving too that I was just about to down quickly. Ewah. I mentioned it to Laura. She commented with a sorry and that they never run out of syrup. Drink machines were out of order one evening we were trying to get drinks for our dinner but we received 2 complimentary drinks because of the inconvenience. I would actually book our first hotel again that we had in Amarillo but this hotel would most likely be a runner up. Not much of a hotel selection in Amarillo, so at least it's tolerable for a short stay and it wasn't bad.

Nice room!

Aside from the hospitality, I am guessing the kickback hour is a big draw as well. They are also pet friendly. We were on a roadtrip to Colorado and decided to spend the night on our way back. There were 2 tour buses when we arrived and it looked like we just missed the crowd at check-in. The front desk folks were an epitome of Texas hospitality. Friendly, laid back and the ladies just made us feel so welcome. We were given 3 drink coupons each for kickback hour. Our 2 queen room on the 2nd floor didn't have much of a view but it was homey and quiet. Kickback hour was busy but staff were surprisingly very accommodating. Their margaritas will give you a buzz. They have hot food items, soup and a salad for the complimentary light dinner. For those that have not stayed at a Drury Inn before, the kickback hour is similar to Embassy Suites' evening reception, but WAY better. We slept surprisingly well, considering the hotel's proximity to the highway. We had no problems with the ac either. Breakfast was better than your typical hotel breakfast with a bunch of options. We did not get to use the other facilities because we had to head out early. This was our first time staying at a Drury property. I'm normally a Hilton and Marriott girl but I'll definitely choose Drury if there is one available in my future destinations. We also appreciate the military discount they offer. Thanks for a memorable stay!

Starlight Canyon - Mesquite room hot tub (10/9/2022)

I am the single mom who brought her kids here to share the Mesquite room on October 9-10, 2022. This bed and breakfast is located in a somewhat remote area of Amarillo, Texas. The surrounding landscape is a bit reminiscent of Palo Duro Canyon - which is just a short drive away - but not in an extreme way that the Lone Star state park yields. The view from the hot tub at 7:30PM was amazing with a glorious display of sunset colors. Robes were provided behind the bathroom door. Near the pond on the old red, white, and blue amusement park ride chair, we found a walking stick. A friendly orange Tabby cat kept returning to our front door. My 8 and 9-year-old couldn't resist petting the stray feline. We weren't crazy about the continental breakfast which comprised of a cherry turnover, Yoplait yogurt, and Tropicana apple juice so we'll pass on that if we don't stay on a morning when they offer a hot meal. Just a couple of other cons: I leave to pick up pizza in town and someone takes my spot in front of our door. Lol. Also, my stupid Sprint/T-mobile coverage was terrible here. The other accomodations definitely overrode the somewhat lacking Monday morning breakfast: quiet neighborhood, calm weather, microwave, mini fridge, iron & board, lots of programs on the TV, free Wi-Fi, walk-in shower, and private gated area with code access.

We stayed in the Pinion. The positives. It's remote and really close to Palo Duro Canyon (18 minutes) That was nice. It's about 12 minutes from the Big Texan. It's in a pretty setting. The bed was comfy. We stay at B&B's because there is a level of expectation where hospitality takes over and you feel like you were being treated like royalty. This is not that place. It almost felt like our stay was a little bit of an inconvenience. The room is small and very dated, but covered in wood plank and not very clean. A lot of dust. This particular room did not have a shower and only a bath tub with the hot water trickles out. I'm not joking. It took about 30 minutes to fill the bathtub. Tip 1. Make sure to ask if the room you are booking has a shower if you're needing a shower for medical reasons or handicap accessibility. According to one of the reviews, and in their pictures, there appeared to be a nice shower in the mesquite, but we weren't given the chance to stay there. Once you get in the room, you're given two towels for the bath and two towels for the hot tub. I uncovered the hot tub to see that the water was very cloudy and it wasn't a result of the bubbles. So I put the cover right back on. They don't give you anything with respect to toiletries when it comes to soap or shampoo or lotions or bath bomb. So it really does feel like you're not being pampered. Bed And Breakfast should always feel like you're being pampered. And inside the room, you're not giving any type of bottled water, filtered water and so you rely on the bathroom sink in the bathroom tub. Which I thought was really bad. The outside of the room was covered in Pineneedles on the walkway, and so we tracked some into a room. When we were trying to get into the door, some even to get into the wheels of our suitcase. It was kind of annoying. The area is just really dated and not well kept. However, that does give it a very rustic feel and so if you're into that kind of thing that it may suit your fancy. It does have a really cute cat that keeps you company in the random deer that you will see from time to time. Overall, I'm sure it meets the needs of a specific clientele that would enjoy that atmosphere but when I go to a bed-and-breakfast, I consider myself to be high maintenance. So they certainly could meet the need a specific individuals however, it's not a place that I would really return to .

She had an attitude and was NOT friendly at all! She didn't smile and was very rude! My friend asked her what time would the bar open? Her response was NEVER, again friend asked will it ever open and her response was NOPE. I will never stay there again. Honestly, we went in and out a lot and not once did we see her smile in the 2 days of staying there. It would probably be in your best interest for your hotel by getting rid of her. I didn't catch her name because she didn't have a badge on. She was working the desk on Monday the 23rd of March at 4:00 in the afternoon. I could give a description of her but maybe you can figure out who she was by the date and time. Also, if you advertise a bar it should be open. Ridiculous!!!! The bed is comfortable, the linens and towels of the quality expected in a nice hotel. Physically, the place is nice. What is lacking is a customer experience commensurate with their hype. They are posers. Gone are the days, when the clerk comes from behind the counter to hand you your room key and walk you to the elevator. That used to be a Marriott trademark, but no trace of it at the Barfield. I decided to eat at the bar. Same menu as the hotel's Toscana Italian Steakhouse. Even though there were three women behind the bar, and only six other patrons, it took a while to be recognized, since the staff were all busily chit-chatting with each other. Finally, one of the women brought me a glass of bar mix. I looked at it, trying to figure out what it was. It was the consistency of large-grain salt--I would need a spoon to eat it. I asked another of the staff on her way by what it was, and, after examining it, she said, "It looks like you got the bottom of the bag." What level of mindlessness does it take to pour a glass of bar-mix crumbs, hand it to a guest, and think that's world-class? Dinner was the next disappointment. I was interested in the "Creole Tortellini," but asked if they could prepare it with any type of red sauce, instead of the cream sauce. "No problem," I was told. As I was finishing my salad, the woman returned to say they couldn't accommodate the request because "everything was already mixed together." Prepared in-kitchen earlier in the day, or in a Sysco bag, I'll never know. Next try was Steak Frites, steak done medium. It came out medium-well with cold fries. The highlight was the glass of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I ordered. The "fond farewell" I received early next morning was from the "valet." When he brought the car around, he exited the car, closed the door, and handed me the key as he walked by me while I stood at the rear of my car with my bag. He rushed back inside, leaving me standing there with his tip in my hand. Based on my experience, the Barfield wants to be a high-end hotel, but not enough to actually work at it. Not worth the premium.
