Fortunately I did have cash with me, but that is a lot of money and I did not have an opportunity to save it up. I really like my dentist because she is very good and concerned about patient comfort and information, but not sure I will go back because of the distance. I will see if a dental office can provide the hardware that I may need replaced in the future at a reasonable cost. Because they seemed to think it was funny that I told them it was terrible to spring something like this on the day with no prior notice. Not only is she completely thorough during my exams (she checks things in my mouth, tongue & jaw that nobody else has ever checked) but she is also a great person! She is friendly & fun! Getting a cleaning can be boring but it isn't with Nancy. She's wonderful & does a fantastic job. She takes pride in her work. When I walk out I know that my teeth & gums are clean & healthy. In 2019, I had to have a crown done. Dr. Long worked w an outside provider, Eddie w Dental Tech to get my crown to match my teeth perfectly. (I'll be writing a glowing review for him also) I'm so impressed by how much he cared that my teeth matched. I care a LOT about my teeth & the last thing I wanted was to have to get a crown much less one that didn't match. My crown matched perfectly. It has been well over a year since I had it done & I haven't had one issue. I waited to write this to make sure I was 100% happy & I definitely am... The staff is also phenomenal here. I met Jasmine on day 1. She is the best! So friendly & sweet! I just love nice people & EVERY person behind the front desk is fantastic! Right before I leave I usually check out w Lata. I started seeing him when he was located in that strip mall off O'Connor and Nacogdoches. He is probably the best dentist in San Antonio bar none. And I have been seeing Dr. Long since he started working there. This review is directed at (you guessed it) the office staff that handles the dental claims and communicates with it's patients...the ones responsible filing claims in a timely manner and communicating this process clearly to the patient. Definitely was not done in this case. In December of 2025 I had 2 tori removed. I was pretty sure insurance was not going to cover this. They (Riley) gave me a treatment plan that reflected my cost was around $1400 dollars. After the procedure when I went to pay I was told I owe $1701. I thought well they have overcharged me in the past but I always got a refund in a timely manner (after the insurance claim was filed). Also in all the many years i have been using them they have always filed to my dental insurance in a timely manner. And insurance immediately sends me a statement saying yes it's covered or no it's not and this is what you owe. Well that never happened in this case. The only thing that was filed initially was the sedation medication used. And it listed no surgical procedure. So insurance denied it saying basically what was the procedure? And I couldn't get an answer on why the office did that. They did file another procedure which was not the tori removal and my insurance paid it ($219) but it had nothing to do with the tori removal. And it was not performed on me. Bottom line: they never filed the tori removal to my dental insurance. Yes, most likely it would have been denied. But, now I could have appealed it. I would have to have shown it was medically necessary. Confusing the matter was that I called in late January 2026 asking about the filing of the claim and was told that I might be due a refund. I'm thinking why would I be due a refund? Now I'm totally confused. So I finally decided to just talk to one person (Riley) so I dont get conflicting info every time I call. She said she is working (communicating with corporate office) on my claim. That totally confused me again. Told her I just want my tori removal to be filed to insurance. She gave me a cryptic answer that she either does not get involved or has no control over the dental insurance part. But after several phone calls she said she would call when she knows something. Nope. That didn't happen. Fast forward about 4 months. I got a text from the office saying I owed another $337. When I called Riley I said I thought you were going to call me when this was resolved. She answered something to the effect she had a lot of people to call.

The hygienist finally came into the room around 3:20 p.m., and by 3:36 p.m., I was already checked out at the front desk. I have never had a cleaning that lasted only about 15 minutes (which included the time Dominique had to santize the dental chair, saliva ejector and water hoses), especially being overdue for my regular visit. What concerned me even more was the lack of infection control. The dental instruments were opened from the sterilization bag before I entered the room. I had to ask the hygienist to sanitize the dental chair, saliva ejector and water hoses because it didn't appear to have been cleaned prior to my visit (white particles visible on surfaces mentioned), and I was handed visibly dirty patient glasses. As someone who works in the dental field, I found this completely unacceptable and concerning for patient safety. It also saddens me that when I brought this issue to the attention of the front office staff upon checking out, nothing was done to address or rectify the situation. No apology was offered, which was very disappointing and left a poor final impression. Whether this was due to running behind schedule or simply a lack of care, the experience was extremely disappointing. Despite my positive experiences with Dr. Patel, my family and I will not be returning after this visit.

I visited for a routine cleaning in late 2025, during which I felt the dental hygienist appeared inexperienced and uncertain in her technique. After the cleaning, while measuring periodontal pocket depths, the probe was left in my mouth while she turned away to chart. Additionally, the pressure applied during the exam was excessive and inconsistent with my previous visits, where my dental health has been stable. When Dr. De La Garza came in for the exam, I mentioned my concerns and expressed that I did not feel the measurements were accurate. Despite this, I was advised to schedule a deep cleaning, which I believe may have been recommended based on those questionable measurements. More recently, I received a call to schedule my next cleaning. During that conversation, I calmly and professionally explained my prior experience and shared that I was open to continuing care with the practice, provided I could be scheduled with a different hygienist. I also emphasized that my intention was simply to share feedback and resolve the issue. I was surprised when the response I received was an offer to remove me from the call list rather than address my concern. When I expressed my surprise and reiterated my desire to remain a patient while having my concerns acknowledged, the conversation was abruptly ended. After more than 10 years as a patient, I find this experience disappointing. I value the care I have received in the past, but I am concerned by how this situation was handled. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as my preference would be to continue care with your office under improved circumstances. (4/7/26) Update #2 - I contacted the office and spoke with the Office Manager to ensure my concerns were clearly communicated. While she did offer the option of scheduling with a different hygienist, I was interrupted during my explanation of the situation. She referenced notes in the chart and appeared to focus on defending the hygienist rather than simply listening. As a registered nurse who also works in service recovery, I place a high value on active listening and empathy. I was disappointed by what felt like a lack of both during this interaction. Had my concerns been fully acknowledged with a simple apology and then followed by the proposed solution, I would have been willing to schedule an appointment immediately. The call itself lasted less than five minutes. This reinforces my impression that my concerns were not given adequate attention, or the office manager was just too busy to listen. Unfortunately, this experience leaves me feeling as though patient relationships and long-term retention may not be a priority.

Normally dental visits are very 6 months for me, have been since I was a kid. but they cut them into 3x visits every 4 months. Kicker they didnt tell me my insurance only covers 2 visits a year. (My old dentist would always lay out how many visits per year to avoid out of pocket, especially to new patients) So that 3rd one was a hefty out of pocket I wasn't aware of. I paid it, moved on. Being in my late 30s they made it a stressing deal for my wisdom teeth to come out on account of cavities they couldn't get too. Were they bothering me? Nope. Even going to the dentust back home all my life and they never mentioned them coming out. But they were pressing me on the issue here and the front desk personnel told me what I would owe for the surgery since my insurance wont cover all of it. I made sure I got a total bill after my surgery so I could pay and be done with it. I got the surgery done, they took all 4. And it was the most miserable experience and 8 months of excruciating pain I dont wish on anybody. Since lucky me, I had complications. I went back for my check up in july (wasnt covered, wasnt told) and paid my minimum like always. Fast forward to november i get a bill in the mail for over 500$ that I owe since my insurance denied a huge portion of my surgery. Confused I called the front desk and asked what this was. I told her I paid up front for the amount i was given after my surgery. And she told me "it's an insurance thing, I'm handling it" so december comes around i get another bill in the mail, same amount. And i went in for a cleaning and checkup. I asked in person if this was still being handled since I'm getting mailed statements now. And she said "yes, they're calling me today". So i figured they were handling it. In feb 2023 I got a call from the dental billing department that said they were sending my bill to collections to due to neglectful payments!!! I flipped out and told them what i have been told. So the collections lady said she would "look into it" and to call the dentist office and see what they're doing from their side with insurance. So of course I called back and the lady who said she was handling it I guess up and left? there's someone new in charge handling all her work she left behind. So I explained the situation and all I got was "I will look into it". Its now April, nothing has been solved, I keep getting pushback from the billing agency, the office will not return my calls or figire this out, and my insurance says they "dont have enough Information to look into this further." This is straight up obnoxious!! And the kicker was when I went back in feb for my cleaning the doc checked my mouth and said "I dont see any cavities back there". But you said there were and that's why I went though that traumatic painful surgery??? I'm so tired of the runaround and lies. Completely awful way to do business. I canceled my appointment and I will never be going back there. I do not have that cash just lying around and I should have been quoted the actual amount upon my surgery A YEAR AGO, so I could get a better idea an a payment plan set up. Incredibly upset. I have to continually take time out of my day to call the collections and billing to see if anything had changed. And they just keep saying "there are notes on here, and we are working with your insurance". So what am I supposed to do? If your insurance wont cover the procedure, make sure you check the whole thing before the person receives the surgery. Seeing a breakdown of only a portion and bolling them for more later on an "oopsy error" is very deceitful!

My first mistake was not doing my own research and consulting with an actual oral surgeon, as Dr. Morehead has a DDS in general dentistry. 5 years and 7 months later, I still cannot feel the left side of my tongue. I consulted an oral surgeon and they let me know before they could even see me that there was nothing they could do because it had been too long since the injury. What an emotional rollercoaster this has been. If I had been informed to see an oral surgeon sooner, I would have. I only had one follow up appointment after the surgery and the doctor said it would come back. It never did. They will not advocate for you. Do not make the same mistake I did. Consult an oral surgeon elsewhere for your wisdom teeth removal.

My issue is with the corporate nature of a healthcare business where nobody who is there has any control over the actual patient experience. Instead, corporate overlords design and furnish with a primary goal toward cost savings. This is obvious by the chair. I have gone to half a century of dental visits all over the world and I have never experienced such a miserably uncomfortable dental chair. It is not adjustable for comfort, barely has an armrest, which is poorly positioned, and was clearly purchased by corporate overlords because it was cheapest, not in order to optimize the experience of the patient. I have mentioned it to the staff on multiple visits and they just apologize. Clearly the furnishings are just provided by the employer. And clearly the employer's main concern is making money, not making the patients comfortable.

He has LCD screens above each patient chair that either show nice calming scenery, a movie (to distract kiddos) and is also used to show your xrays instead of looking at negatives on a light box. You sign in on a computer, and almost everything you do there is automated in some way. He is like the dentist of the future!
