Needed a second programmable key for my daughter's Kia. They operate out of mobile vans. There is not a physical shop. Had to wait for an available service tech to be assigned. Met the service guy in front of my building with the car. He programmed and cut the key I bought online. It worked fine but when I used the original programmed key, the programming was erased. So I had to call him to come back to reprogram the original key again. He came back and we got it done. $55 for the service call and $150 to cut and program the second key. So not cheap. But it works and that is what I needed. read more

Not only did Columbus Locks and Keys respond immediately but they also offered the most competitive rate and provided a discount for Yelp users!! The employee who came out was very professional and opened my car in a jiffy! I was so impressed. I didn't have cash on me but he was willing to meet me at a bank nearby so that I could pay him. It was a really stressful situation that was resolved quickly and easily. I appreciated that they came out earlier than the quoted time so I was able to get back in my car even sooner than I had expected. He asked for my information prior and was at my aid in less than 15 minutes.I asked him if he can come in the morning/noon time in the day after, in order to Re-Key the back door and he offer to save me the service call and he was able to complete the back door in 10 min. The guy had bunch of locks with him and he found me a new brand lock from Kwikset smart key series to match my electronic keypad lock as well. I needed to use their services again, only this time they left me stranded for two hours. No one showed up. I called several times asking for an update on the technician. The lady said she was going to try to contact him to find out what was taking so long and would call me back. After another 20 minutes of not hearing anything I called back but no one answered. Very disappointed in the quality of work. My wife and I had just purchased a new house so I called to make an appointment to have all the locks replaced. I spoke to Roy, made the appointment, and asked if they needed the details of how many doors, what kind of locks, etc. He told me he didn't need all that because they keep everything in the truck, enough to do 5 or 6 houses. Appointment time rolled around, they called me about 20 minutes before to confirm that I would be there and they were on their way. When they arrived - it was not Roy but another technician - my wife showed him what we wanted, and it turned out he did not have the brand or color of locks we wanted. He didn't even have enough to do all the locks the same color, we would have had to have a mix of gold & silver. Instead, we decided to just have him re-key all the existing locks, and install another deadbolt in one of the doors. He did not have the tools he need to do that. Instead, he re-keyed all the handles, then had to return the next day to re-key the deadbolts and install the new one - which was, again, not the color we wanted. After rekeying the handles, he also put them all back on upside-down. Fast forward a week, and we began having trouble with one of the doors. Every time we used it, the handle got looser and looser, to the point where we could see right through the hole in the door. The lock on the inside of that handle stopped working. The deadbolt in the same door also stopped working - when we tried to lock it from the outside, the key just kept spinning and didn't lock. Finally, a week to the day after our appointment, the handle fell off completely. On another door, the deadbolt was EXTREMELY difficult to unlock from the outside. I couldn't get it unlocked at all, and my wife barely could. We called to tell them about these issues, and Roy said they would be out to fix it in about 20-30 minutes. They sent the same technician - again, not Roy - who had installed the locks in the first place. We ended up canceling that and calling another locksmith, who is now replacing all of our locks with ones that we went to Home Depot and picked out ourselves. With each door, the new locksmith is finding more things that were messed up by the first technician. read more

I lost my key while walking my dog and didn't have a backup plan. I called the dispatcher, who had the technician call me. The tech (Roy) called and said he'd be about 15 minutes, and was right on time. Because of the type of lock I had he was unable to pick it, but was able to drill the deadbolt. He saved the bottom lock and even re-keyed both the replacement and the existing lower lock to match the back door. Nice guy, and the service was excellent. Very happy with the service. read more

I was charged $149.00 for an installation of a deadbolt that doesn't work. I was locked out of my house. Serviceman attempted four times to install a lock on my front storm door and not only was unsuccessful, but badly damages both the door handle, (screws are missing), and all but destroyed the hardware on the door frame where the door used to latch. I called and was told I would receive a callback in ten minutes. I was assured everything would be repaired to my satisfaction. I never heard from this company again. read more

Locked my keys in my car... They quoted me a 25min wait and apx. $65 to unlock my car. 50min of waiting and $124 later I'm back in my car. "Different cars are different prices" he said. I have a standard Toyota Camry. Took him less than a minute to unlock my car, don't know why it would be more expensive. These guys take advantage of people that are in a bad situation. I do not recommend this service!!! The guy drive up in an old car with no company marking on car, clothing or receipt. He was here literally 4 minutes to slide a metal strip down our door to the house from the garage and charged me $99! My daughter had all of her locks changed for $50. Hasen, a technician, certainly earned his money trying to open my door after the key would not turn without drilling the lock. He worked for 20 min. before we both agreed his attempts were futile and he drilled it and had the door open in less than 2 min. I agreed to the drilling because I had already had a problem with the same lock on another door where the key broke off when I tried to force it open. These locks are approximately 60 years old and I think they just wore out. I have already purchased locks to replace both of these and Mr procrastinating cost me time and money! My fault! Hasen was very neat, polite, and courteous explaining what he was going to do. Let me also note that this company is open 24/7 and responded to my initial inquiry within seconds. They told me it would be $40 to come out and let me into my house, which I was locked out of. They guy showed up and said that it was going to be $110!! I told him the man on the phone said $40 and he said that was the minumum, and the prices vary based on the lock. Well this was a SIMPLE, OLD door lock, not a deadbolt, so I am not sure what would be at the $40 mark that they said is the minimum, when this is the easiest lock to unlock. Then he tried to say that I needed to pay him $29 fee for just coming to my house. I am sorry, but you cannot tell people that it is going to be $40, show up and try to charge $110, and when I say I am not paying that, try to charge me a fee for showing up. Do not use this company. USE Snap & Crack Locksmith. They give you one price, and do not change when they show up. read more

Just used these guys to do several locks in our office building and a couple of master keys. They were very easy to work with and did a great job. I don't know shit about keys, so who am I to say, but they seemed very knowledgeable. The key system they put in place has worked very well, and was installed at a reasonable price. The only knock I have is that they were supposed to follow-up to perform a minor task that remained outstanding, but never did. In any event, I plan to use them again if we have any more lock and key needs. read more

Roy was very friendly and helpful, giving me a very affordable quote and informing me someone would be here to help in 20 minutes. Needed a padlock cut off of a storage unit that we lost the key to. Called for a quote and time estimate for the service. The dispatcher said it would be $15 for the driver to get out there and then $23-$45 to remove the lock depending on the lock, and that they could have someone out in 30-35 minutes. Ok, sounded reasonable. Waited an hour, called dispatch to make sure they were still coming/had our correct location. He said the locksmith would be there in 15 minutes. It ended up being 40 more minutes. The locksmith was friendly (reason for 2* instead of 1) and got the lock (small, inexpensive padlock) off in two minutes. The total bill ended up being $19 for the driver, $45 for the removal, and $4.80 in tax for a grand total of $68.80. All for 1 hour and 40 minutes of waiting and 2 minutes of work. Highway robbery. Had they quoted us at $65 from the start (as other companies did) it wouldn't be as bad, but I'm not sure what would have qualified for the $23 fee if this didn't. read more
