Not the best mediterranean food, but I guess it's okay. Most mediterranean restaurants cook while you are waiting, but this one like a fast food. It's already cooked just need to serve. I ordered the paella valenciana and it was absolutely not good. The seafood wasn't fresh the chicken was over cooked and the overall dish had no flavor . The appetizers were absolutely delicious. Overall I didn't really like this restaurant. The customer service was absolutely outstanding and The restaurant is very clean neat and organized. Honestly I don't think I will try this restaurant again but I can say maybe I would have had a better experience if I ordered something different maybe. read more

In terms of the locality, this is somewhere between a hidden gem and the best that you will find. While I prefer to be complimentary, I consider it imperative to foremost maintain impartiality and fairness: and in kind, I must assign a score of between 2.5 to 2.75 stars. While "closer" to 3 stars than 2 stars, I do not consider it to meet the bar necessary to afford 3 stars; nor does it meet instinctive nor hardened criteria for "grading up". Accordingly, I must be seemingly harsh here. With that said, I *do* recommend dining here if traveling through the area; though I would not suggest a) going out of your way to dine here; nor b) changing plans if you already have another place or destination in mind. While the Happy Hour is fairly priced and a good opportunity to try a great array of dishes as well as enjoy some strong libations, quality of ingredients, execution, and consistency are all quite variable with a median of 2.6 and an average of 2.5. Seasoning, overcooking, and heating issues were quite rife; and while the quality and freshness of some items was more attractive, I could not hold that sentiment across the board. I was more than a little sore over a $26 entree that was suggested as being quite good, but was rough and lacking flavor, moisture and tenderness, and that j'ene sais quoi that makes a good meat dish, good. I refer here to the rack of lamb. While it may be attractive to drink a lot given the price margins, especially as someone from perhaps an adjacent area that usually sees higher cost, I would caution against that given 1) how busy the traffic in this area can be; and 2) as a reminder that you still need to get home; and this area isn't exactly "on the metro". Likewise, the service, while perhaps short-staffed, is friendly, affable, and conversant. The vibe is quite relaxed, and is opportune for striking up conversations with locals and other passers-by. While I can see a lot of what the restaurant is going for, my recommendation would be to 1) downsize the menu; 2) downsize the seating; 3) modernize in concept, presentation, ingredients, and dishes; and 4) not bring out all the desserts to "show" clientele when trying to suggest a dessert. The logic of the latter is quite dated, and if an item should not look entirely fresh nor presentable (both of which is the case when I visited), this may not only put off the customer from dessert; but may invoke a comprehensively lower appreciation of the experience. While the ambiance could modernize as well, I kind of dig the dive/sports bar vibe; especially given the locality. But menu and intent must fit the ambiance. I wish the owner and staff success, and appreciate their hospitality. read more

We love this place and it's our local bar! The bartenders and servers are all so friendly and make you feel welcome right away. The food is yummy and the inside is gorgeous. The bar area is separate and beautiful with lots of large screens for sports. The restaurant part is beautiful with tables that are set back in like a semi-private area. There's also a huge banquet room perfect for receptions. The prices are reasonable and food is great. As locals this is our spot and we go for happy hour a lot. At first impression, the decor looked really nice and I felt I was underdressed when I walked in. Quickly that feeling changed as we walked into the bar area and sat down. With every person that walked by, we could feel the floorboards move with every step. Even someone tapping on their chair could be felt. Smokers come in and out the patio door wreaking of cigarette smoke. They seem to allow smoking on the patio as there are ashtrays out there and the smell when they walk in and out is so off-putting. The only reason it got two stars is because I enjoyed my appetizer and the bartender was nice. The Grilled Bacon Wrapped Shrimp was delicious. The Bruschetta wasn't bad either but the baguette quickly got soggy. Maybe serve the bruschetta on the side and let people build their own so the grilled baguette stays crunchy longer. I ordered the bitoque (medium) and my SO ordered the CG Burger (medium). His order came out with the soggiest limp fries I have ever seen. Luckily I subbed my fries for the broccoli rapini. My steak that should've been medium came out well done. His burger that should've also been medium was also well done. Ive been to this place pre covid and enjoyed their brunch. I brought my family this time to try out their dinner. Dinner was delicious! I had Bacalhau Assado. A huge serving. It took me 3 days to finish it. My husband had their Linguini Terra Mar and enjoyed it as well. My only gripe was the service. I understand staffing is an issue at lots of restaurants but my poor server was running around frantically serving multiple tables. She was so sweet. I also saw several waiters just hanging out. This is an unusual place with a rare cuisine for Northern Virginia. The dining room is big and adjacent to an equally large event room. It is clear that Columbus Grill caters to large groups. I lived in Brazil for a year so I am somewhat familiar with Portuguese dishes but was happy to see a large menu of dishes from the homeland. My wife was very happy with the Francesinha Sandwich. I had tge Mejillones a la Espanola. The mussels were big and clean but the broth lacked in flavor. We shared the charcuterie board. The prosciutto and chorizo were excellent. There was too much cheese and none of the cheeses were special or interesting. The Kalamata olives and the bread were both excellent. We also shared dulce de Leche for desert. Me and my fiancée threw our engagement party at the banquet hall and it was a blast. Appetizers, food, drinks, decoration, seating organization, host, waitresses. Everything was great. For our appetizers we had bacon wrapped shrimp, chicken crostini, seafood empanada, and calamari. Each item was delicious, with the standout for me being the bacon wrapped shrimp and the seafood empanadas. The entrees were equally good with the garlic glazed chicken, roast beef, chicken Alfredo, and fish filets. Everything was homemade and delicious. I'm soooo glad I had my party here. After spending a snow day shuttered indoors at home, my wife and I wanted to get out for a bit and enjoy dinner at a place we had never been to. Passing the Columbus Grill every day on my commute, I had mentally added it to a list of places to try. Now being a snow day it was either going to be crowded with like minded folk or empty for dinner. Pulling into the parking lot, it was easy to see it was the latter. Arriving around 545pm on a Monday evening, we saw a handful of people at the bar and one couple dining at a table. The hostess/server who sat us mentioned the people at the bar had been there most of the day. That's another way to spend your snow day I guess. The dining room is quite large with an entire almost half of the building beyond that for the banquet hall. There are some nooks named after Columbus' ships with tables for more private dining as well. Seated with menus in hand and drinks served, we studied the extensive Portuguese menu and found a couple of interesting dishes to try. Don't panic though if you are not feeling adventurous, there is your standard chicken and steak on the menu as well. Our challenge though was the server who sat us was doing everything including tending bar which was on the other side of a wall from us. My wife was ready to bolt after 10 minutes of not seeing here to place our entree order. I talked her off the ledge and walked to the bar to get her. Order placed we enjoyed our glasses of Portuguese red wine and split a house salad to start. The ingredients were fresh and it was plenty big enough to share. Our entrees showed up in no time and looked amazing. My wife selected the Francesinha Portuguese sandwich which surprisingly looked more like a soup served in a large bowl with lots of red sauce and a fried egg on top. She loved her meal but was unable to finish it. My Columbus steak was amazing. Served with a hot rectangular stone, you can cook the meat and veggies to your liking. I loved it sizzling my onions along with the two sirloins already prepared medium rare as requested. Not only are you cooking the meat but I think you are adding flavor as well. It was delicious. Three sauces are also served along with the stone for dunking. My wife was jealous (I did share a few bites with her though) and indicated she would try the stone on our next visit. Service vastly improved after the initial lag and we even met the owner who helped bring out our dishes. He indicated they do a great deal of catering and hosting in their banquet halls. While probably not planning any wedding receptions in the near future (there's always hope though), we did say we would return to try some other dishes some not to distant future evening. read more

We had our wedding here about two weeks ago and we couldn't have made a better choice. Ana was very helpful, we had a lot of questions and she made time to help us plan accordingly. We had about 70 guests and all of them really enjoyed the food and there was even some left to take to go! Some of my personal recommendations would be the Bitoque, Francesihna, Portuguese salad, and Tropical salad. The dressing for the Tropical salad is so yummy! Honestly, their salads are so good here, I feel like you can't go wrong with any salad you pick. The staff members are very accommodating and warm. I've never had a bad experience with service. February 3rd 2023 was the date of my little sisters Quinceñera (15th birthday) at Columbus Grill. My family and I planned this event very last minute. We only had a couple of weeks to plan. This would not have been possible without the help of the event coordinator, Ana! She helped us every step of the way. She was very patient, flexible, and kind. Ana and the Columbus Grill staff provided exceptional service! The venue was large and fit our 45 guests, a DJ, and a dance floor. Ana helped with the decorations (pictures shown). We noticed this after the person showing us to the table quickly left before we sat down. We moved tables on our own. The salad was bitter. My wife and I dined here for a family member's parent's 50th wedding anniversary last year. That event was wonderful and the buffet style food was great and service was outstanding. Fast forward to this past Monday and we chose Columbus Grill to celebrate my son's graduation from the police academy. On short notice, my daughter called them and let them know we were coming with a large group. By the time we arrived they had already arranged a table for 15 in the back of the main dining area. Half the party was about 20 minutes earlier than the rest but the staff was not pushy at all or trying to rush us, as we waited for the remainder of the table. Somehow the server assigned to our table was able to keep up with everything and even keep an eye on other tables. She was outstanding! We ordered appetizers including, Chouriço Assado, Bruschetta, Cheese, Prosciutto & Chourico platter, and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. They were all delicious but my favorite was the Chouriço Assado. I remember getting it last year during the 50th anniversary celebration and knew I had to get it again. The sausage has a flavor unlike any other chorizo you can find in the area and goes perfect with the olives it is served with. I did not see what everyone ordered for entrees, but I know I did not hear anyone one complain and did hear a lot of compliments. I had the Paella Valenciana. It did not like the rice very much because it seemed like it had been cooked previously and added but the rest of the dish was really good. The seafood and meat was plentiful and the sauce that ended up in the bottom of the dish had a great flavor. I kept scooping it from the bottom to pour over the top. I saw a couple of huge and fresh salads with fried chicken on top of them. I also saw a couple of CG burgers with a huge patty and one was eaten by my very picky son, so it had to be good. My wife and friend had the Filet Mignon a la Bordelaise, it was perfectly cooked and seasoned well with a unique presentation on a huge portabella mushroom. One of my grandsons had mac and cheese and it was obviously homemade. Creamy and cheesy, it was so good. One section of the menu said something like, "we have something for everyone," and it is so true. We even have some vegan family members who were able to find something and enjoy their meals. Overall, we could not have been happier with either of our two recent visits to Columbus Grill. They even let my new police officer pick a dessert on the house. They have so many things on their menu I want to try. I will be back soon for their Francesinha sandwich. I would not hesitate to visit for date night, family gatherings, or a large special event. read more

What a cool place. We had a party of 8 on a Saturday night, so I was expecting a wait. We made reservations, but really didn't need to. The place was fairly dead, which surprised me. When we did arrive, they had our own "room", more like a big booth all setup which was prefect. The table was big and just right for large parties. The atmosphere was spot on for an evening out with friends. The service was great and very attentive. The hostess went over some favorites. My wife and I got both got the Rib eye. We also got a calamari appetizer. The calamari was excellent. The steak was done like we requested (med-rare), but the sauce they put on the steak really detracted from the favor of the meat. My wife liked hers, but mine had a little too much fat on it for me. I would probably not get it again. The other six people in our party all liked their dishes and would get them again. We got dessert and drinks. The total bill for the two of us was around 80 dollars. Not bad at all I think for the value, atmosphere, and good time with friends. read more

The Columbus Grill is the latest entrant into the Manassas area dining/restaurant scene. It just opened two days ago - in a brand new building. I sat at the bar to eat so I could watch some college football on the large Samsung flat panel HD screens lining the bar area. Columbus Grill offers a separate Tapas menu, in addition to the main menu - which contains a mixture of Mediterranean, Portugese, and American cuisine offerings. I started off with a glass of water with a wedge of lime, a Mad Hatter Ale, and a dozen raw oysters on the half shell. The oysters were served with a small quantity of hot sauce on each one of them, and a couple of lemon wedges on the side. I spritzed some fresh lemon juice on each one, and they quickly disappeared! Very tasty! I inquired as to what kind of oysters they were - the bartender checked and reported back to me that they were "James River Oysters." After the oysters, I had a bowl of their Seafood Veloute - which is a creamy lobster bisque of sorts containing jumbo lump crab meat and scallops. I asked for some fresh cracked black pepper for my soup - they went back to retrieve a pepper mill - one of the servers came back and proceeded to grind out some black pepper. It took way to long. This pepper mill produces an extremely fine pepper grind - and it takes a long time to get any decent quantity out of it. I stopped the server and moved on, stirring what black pepper I got into the soup. The soup was tasty and the chunks of crab and scallops were delish. However, the soup was overly salty. I made sure the bartenders relayed my comments back about both the saltiness of the soup - and the pepper mill. I prefer a pepper mill that produces more pepper and in a coarser grind. Then finally I had an entree - their crab cakes, which comes with a roasted pepper tomato sauce, shoestring fries, and asparagus. The crab cakes (you get two) were packed full O' crab meat - not much in the way of filler, and they had a nice crust on the outside. The asparagus was a little on the plain side, and the fries were tasty, crisp, and hot. I would not order the Mad Hatter Ale again - just not my bag - the ale left an after taste in my mouth - almost like cherry cough syrup. There were six bartenders working the bar - service was good and attentive. Apparently the kitchen closes down at 10:30 pm or so - but the bar stays open considerably later - I think the bartenders told me 1:30 or 2:00 pm. You can still order tapas after the kitchen closes - all the way to close. There is a large dining room area, as well as a banquet hall area that can be rented. There is also an outdoor patio seating area. No smoking - period! Nice place, I hope they make it! read more

Me & mi hijo went here for an early dinner on a Wed before a movie. We decided to sit at the bar and watch soccer on one of the many HD Plasma's. I liked that they had a nice selection of Tapas on special for $5 from 4p to 8p. We had the sashimi tuna which was quite good. James opted for the grilled Salmon and I went with the pan seared Snapper. Both were quite good. The roasted potatoes were very tasty. Stevey talked us into dessert, cream brûlée & tiramisu with espresso. A nice finish to an excellent meal. The espresso rivaled anything I ever had in Spain or Italy. They also have satellite radio tuned to a Portuguese radio station that plays 80's music; an interesting touch. As we were leaving we met the owner who turns out to be Portuguese. I wanted to ask him why he didn't name the place Magellen, but James talked me out of it. I would recommend this place for the great Tapas specials, dinner menu selection and food quality. The reason for the five stars is the food. The in-house bread was a true treat, but wait until you try that Portuguese Flank Steak. I don't know that any steak-house rib eye is as flavorful and well-prepared as this cut of flank steak (!). The added joy of hot-stone cooking and three-sauce flavor made my day, just a very enjoyable experience. And by the way, hand-cut french fries are rare and these were done correctly. Stopped in during their first few months of opening. Outside looks like an upscale restaurant. Sat at a very large bar for diner. Staff was great. Stopped in a year later, we are not local to Manassas but a town or two away, again at the bar for diner and every time the doors were opened you would get a strong smell of smoke from the patio area. We had a drink, passed on food and quickly left. Passing through we stopped and decided to not go to the bar but a table for diner. Walking into the front door you get a very strong smell of smoke from the patio area. There was not a hostess at the podium and we looked at each other and turned and left. It must be a great place for smokers but not for nonsmokers. Front door right next to a large smoking patio with French doors to the bar area is a terrible setup in my opinion. We just had our daughter's wedding at the event center in Columbus Grill and I can't begin to say enough about this venue. I have made my living planning large scale events and I have met many banquet managers, but none as attentive and sharp as Anna. The venue did not miss a single beat, they were on top of everything, the appetizers and food divine, the location was perfect for us, the staff was incredibly attentive and kind. Truly a gem. The bacon wrapped shrimp was a big hit with everyone. All the main dishes were quite good, but the Pork Loin and the Seafood Rice were truly remarkable! Got a table, mentioned that we had to.leave in an hour for another event. Ordered drinks and dinner. Drinks were both wrong. After 40 minutes, had to ask for our entrees. Got entrees (which included shrimp and chicken, both dry and overcooked). We packed them in to go boxes, and left.
