    Pretzel Bites nice-n-girthy

Service was fantastic and the wife and I were thoroughly surprised with how large the pretzel bites were! Oompf, the GIRTH!!

Columbus bar is one of the oldest br in the town and it's locals favorite place to hang out. You can have your own mug hanging on the bar but for that you have to be really regular here.. the service is fast food is good and decent beer menu. It's a small bar but worth trying.

The more places I dine and drink around the state, the more I run into places that are set up differently than others. Even Yelp has a difficult time deciding if this is a bar (Columbus Bar) or a Brewery (Power House Brewing) and has reviews for both places that overlap and are interchangeable. If you haven't been here, Power House bought the bar and serves their limited line (only 3 options) as well as a large number of "guest" beers. The bar itself is very old and sadly, shows its age...not in the best way. Restrooms are small, ceiling tiles are dingy, and it looks like it is "well worn". Some might find it adds character, but my wife noticed a lot of things which made it hard to ignore in my review. There was only one server working the lunch shift and she was serving both the bar and family dining sides which are separated by a wall, so you couldn't see her when she was on the other side. Not a great situation. I will say that some of the food we ordered was really good! I had the Kraut Balls appetizer which include sausage and cream cheese with the sauerkraut and then rolled in panko before deep frying. The horseradish dip (not too strong) gives the appetizer a really flavorful balance. I also liked my pulled pork sandwich. There were nice strips of roasted pork and the sauce (on the side) had a bit of apple flavor that made the sandwich really good. The portion was smaller than most places I've been...maybe that is intentional since it was lunch time. I got to pick a side and I found the cole slaw rather tasteless...no sweetness, no acidity. My wife got the lunch sized tenderloin which is intentionally smaller than most I've tried, but still a decent amount of meat. She thought it a bit overcooked, but otherwise it was fine. She got the steamed veggies which could have used some seasoning, but otherwise were served fully cook, not al dente (which was fine for her.) I think one of the problems I have with a brewery owned business is that they don't serve flights. Most likely, it is because they don't make enough varieties to fill out a flight. I was able to get two samples of the house beers and settled on the Amber Ale "Jack the Bum" (5.8% 62 IBU) which was far more bitter than most ambers I've had. The price was great ($4.75 for a pint) but the beer was just okay. I also tried the Ceraline (4.9% 22) which is an odd combination of Hoppy Cream Ale. I usually think of cream ales as gateway options into craft beer. The hoppy taste in this one might deter a newbie from trying more. Why not simply make an IPA if you want it hoppy? Or just a cream ale? Or make one of each, have four kinds of beers, and be able to offer a flight? I just don't get it for an established brewery to not be able to offer more. To sum up, the food was pretty good, the beer was okay, and it does help support a local business. But there are a lot of other local restaurants and breweries (and some combos) that I much prefer. Lunch Special Chicken Tenders tossed in buffalo sauce Salad with grilled chicken.

My husband and I had the day off and wanted to go to lunch but didn't want to blow the budget. Columbus Bar was a great choice!!! They have a $7 lunch special with enough options to choose from. He got chicken tenders tossed in buffalo sauce with a side of fries and I got a salad and added grilled chicken. That was around $9. The chicken was real chicken and kind of crispy (which I love). The salad was be enough and very filling. We will definitely be back!

Are you over these new breweries with their exposed steel beams and overall industrial vibe? Fear not! Columbus Bar, home to PowerHouse Brewing, is a step back in time to a scene that's more likely to remind you of an episode of "Cheers". Not only will you find taps from Powerhouse but also a solid selection of craft guest taps. Our visit didn't include food, but it did include samples of all of the Powerhouse beers. I've had Diesel Oil Stout at Indiana beer festivals, and it's definitely the stand out of their lineup. I'm not going to be in a rush to get back to this bar, but it's nice to know that there's a casual spot to cozy up to craft brews in the heart of Columbus.

We went for a few drinks and a quick snack after hitting a few bars beforehand. Our server was great, quick, and very friendly. The only thing I didn't like is that a wing I had already took a bite out of and swallowed, to look down to see that it may have not been fully cooked.

Ultimate beef n cheddar. Roast beef, nacho cheese, horseradish sauce, French onions on a homemade pretzel bun! Gaaaaaaah! Yes!

Good food, fun atmosphere, very reasonably priced. The Diesel Stout was tasty, as was the jagerschnitzel. Would come back.

Would I recommend coming here for food? No. Would I recommend coming here for cheap drinks? Yes…read more My husband and I went here last night for dinner after going down to Columbus to watch our niece play her volleyball tournament. They were packed and had trivia going on, but they still had plenty of places to sit inside and on the small patio. We had wanted to sit outside since the weather was nice, so we grabbed a table in the corner on the patio (it is a seat yourself establishment). After a while, a server came over to get our drink orders and we each ordered a water. I asked for a Bud Light on draft, which was listed on their menu, but he told me they only have it bottles and just had Michelob Ultra on draft that was similar. No problem, we each ordered one of those. Some time passed and I saw our server come out onto the patio, look at us, and promptly spin around to go back inside. A couple minutes later he returned with our waters and an apology about the beers taking a long time because "the bartender was too busy talking." I got more of the impression that he forgot to put in our order at all, hence the quick turnaround to get waters when he realized he never came back to our table. We put in our food orders in the meantime- I ordered the Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries and my husband ordered the roast beef sandwich with sweet potato fries. Drinks came out eventually and were huge/ice cold, which was nice. The food also came out within 10 minutes, which we had initially been happy about because we were so hungry and we still had an hour drive back to Indy. However, my Reuben sandwich had huge, thick chunks of meat vs thinly sliced beef and it was extremely hard to take bites of and took a long time to chew. I had to keep using my hands to rip pieces off the sandwich. There was also hardly any sauerkraut on it. My husband's roast beef sandwich had very little roast beef and absolutely no flavor, but was supposed to have a kick from the horseradish sauce. The sweet potato fries were good though, they just had a little too much salt on them. Overall, we had mixed reviews with our visit. Our beers were only $5.50 each, so that was a crazy good price. Not sure if it's just for trivia night or always like that. Several times throughout our visit we kept getting hit with the smell of cigarette smoke because the patio is off the main sidewalk and no one monitors that people are actually far enough away from the building. Super unpleasant. This is definitely a fun place to meet friends for drinks, but I'd pass on the sandwiches and see if other menu options are better.

We absolutely love this local watering hole. Good bar food, and great beer and cocktail selection…read more I particularly love the energy of the spot as it's always buzzing with a fun upbeat environment. There is no bad seat in the house, and the patio is fantastic. Service has always been very helpful and friendly. Even the first time we went we felt as if we have been coming for years. Can't wait to come back Awesome trivia and karaoke here as well!

So when Gayle, Shauna, and I were looking for a place for Lunch (after listening to darling granddaughter play cello in her school's orchestra at the local high school), I immediately gravitated to the front door. The others were not so sure, but I managed to talk then into it. The interior is a bit dark (as expected) and relatively small, with tables on both side of the center bar. There's a couple TVs and at the time I enjoyed watching Iowa (Go Hawkeyes!) play in the NCAA Women's tournament. Service was friendly, albeit a little slow at times, but we had time and I enjoyed hanging out. And unlike Grandpa Rowan back then, no one was calling the bar asking my whereabouts. Unlike the Milwaukee of old, they weren't serving yellow beer, but rather really good craft brew. 2 of us went for Jack the Bum, while the other chose Diesel Oil Stout. I went full Midwest and ordered a Pork Tenderloin sandwich, which was huge and delicious. Gayle and Shauna enjoyed their beer and salads (BBQ Chicken and Salmon), starting out with Kraut Balls for the table. I'm not sure when I'll be back in Columbus Indiana, but Powerhouse is on my list.

They had a couple beers on tap - the Love Nugget and the Pink Houses were the ones I tried. Love Nugget is a nice hoppy pale ale, and Pink Houses is a hibiscus wheat. The hibiscus flavor isn't too sweet or overwhelming, which I like. Combining the two makes a very tasty summer beverage. The guys that work at the brewery are friendly and will takl to you about the brewing process and the hops they have growing outside. Pints are $5, and they had a flatbread pizza truck out for the First Friday show. It started out awkward because the menu still said "spring" at the last of the dog days of July and several beverages on the menu were "we're out". Then the "Elderberry Fizz" drink had not one fizzy bubble! We asked and they said that despite the name, the drink is flat. Huh? The Taxman beer was nice and the carbonation was just right. On to the food ... happy to find that the grilled cheese which is on local sourdough bread and stuffed with a nice amount of spinach could be ordered without bell peppers. It came with choice of side and she chose "Indiana mustard potato salad". Since she is from Indiana thought it funny that which part was "Indiana". I ordered the fish tacos small plate. The chef came out in person to make sure that fresh ahi grade tuna was ok (!) because so many people assume that tacos would have fried fish. He also guaranteed that not a bell pepper would be in site. We were sitting outside on their extensive patio and the beautiful food came out. We could not believe our luck. The $10 tacos were gorgeous and delicious, a bit spicy. The grilled cheese was more than the ordinary. The potato salad was quite good and a little sweet. If we lived in Columbus we would want to know about this great deal - a nice different meal for a Friday night or something.
