I'm a little bummed. I really loved Jill's diner and used to go to the old location and I excitedly waited for the new location to be open. I told my dad about it, my partner, his mom, my dad told his friends about Jill's diner as I explained how great the food is and how the servers were great. Except since trying it now at the new location.. Everything was good although our bacon was burnt and the pancakes didn't taste the same as they did before. But I would say everything else was great and maybe because of it being so busy it's probably just hard to keep up with all the food in the kitchen. But I had hopes for there to be a good experience. I brought my kids with me and invited their grandma along. And firstly we could tell it was busy so we were understanding and the first server we had was nice and straight forward. We ordered with her and I had ordered 3 kids drinks with lids and I ordered an adult drink with chocolate milk. Well a different server came out to bring us our drinks. As she set them down she brought us two kids chocolate milks with lids and two small kids cups of chocolate milk without lids and a child's size regular milk. As she was right about to walk away I kindly said, Excuse me, Ma'am, this milk isn't ours she ignored me and went straight to the table on the left of us to take their order. I kindly still tried to get her attention and she looked back at me glaring and annoyed and mad at me as if I just ruined her whole day. So we just stayed there at our table wondering what her problem was. I get that it's busy but at least acknowledge people and don't be angry when they try to get your attention the moment you set something down that wasn't theirs. I was very respectful to her and that didn't matter. After that happened we waited until our server came and she was busy so we weren't able to get her attention. She eventually came over to us and my mother in law explained to her how one of the drinks wasn't ours and how we would like another kids cup with a lid. I ended becoming apologetic though because I have a huge amount of anxiety and at that point I didn't want anymore issues after how the other server was rude and gave us an angry look. She had her hair up and had Carmel blond curls. Anyhow our regular server ended up taking the milk back that wasn't ours and brought it to another table. And everything seemed better after that. It just was disappointing though. One thing I don't like when it comes to a place is rude servers or rude employees. I was a server before and a food runner and a busser before. I know how it gets. But there is no reason to be rude or give angry looks to people just because they are trying to get your attention for a mistake you made accidentally. I really liked going to Jill's diner before but that just put a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Jill's is a true staple in Columbus. A regular place with good food, nice people and a survivor through lots of stuff. Their breakfast is really good. No complaints. read more

What great local joint! If you want breakfast or lunch this place has it covered. It's pretty much a one-cook operation but boy does she hustle! I don't want to use the term "greasy spoon ", but most all the food is fried or cooked on the flattop. Breaded tenderloin got an A+ from the husband. It's good, real food. Good value. read more

Came here for breakfast with a fellow pilot.... first let me say unless you are not on a diet or are just plain hungry don't order and then finish the Big Breakfast... it is a lot of food. We walked into what I would call a greasy spoon (this is a good thing) small place that serves good food and doesn't charge an arm and a leg. We sat at the bar and ordered up coffee and breakfast, I ordered the big breakfast with the chicken fried steak.... huge amount of food. The coffee was very good, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect for a flight to Columbus IN for breakfast. I would gladly come back here and can't wait to try dinner, but that would require a visit during the week, which I may just have to do one of these days. Who's up for a good meal? read more

So when I think that we should move to a different town simply due to a restaurant then that's something. I love diners and small town diners are the best! The minute we walked in and sat ourselves, we felt at home and everything was just right. They were super busy but still at least 3 different people checked on us and took our order within minutes. Ok. The food was so good! Something about home fries with alittle onion prepared on a flat top grill is so amazing! And the giant pile of bacon from which she's grabbing to cook is like a view of Heaven. Ok. One of my issues w/ restaurants , like the rest of the world, has been the crazy prices that just don't make sense. I understand that eggs may cost $3.00 a dozen but still. And what if you need a pancake to go with all the goodness that you've ordered. That shouldn't cost as much as your meal. SO this place GETS it! Their prices are so so so affordable for everyone, like I could eat there everyday and save money. My husband had the Mexican omelette with a side of grits (we are southern thank you) and said it was very good. I had some deliciousness that had silver dollar pancakes, eggs, bacon, dry wheat toast ,and a side order of home fries and everything was just right. It is a small town diner so there's nothing fancy nor should there be. This is a place to go for good solid food and friendly service. Customers are often greeted by their name. Saturday morning and we drop off the daughter early to the swim meet and we decide to get BF. Pull up to this place and they don't open for another 15 minutes. We wait it out and I'm glad we did. While waiting for them to open the regular crowd shuffles up. Holy cow that's a lot of people. They open and we are probably the last to squeeze in to the door and we head back to the other side dining room. Everybody is settled in quickly and the waitresses already have the regulars drinks on the table waiting. Fresh coffee already being poured and orders are be taken. The lady gets to us and we ask for water and just a few minutes to review the menu Small and tidy menu makes it easy. The Mrs. orders an omelette and I take the 5e. I really enjoyed my breakfast. The potatoes were probably the best I've had. Over easy eggs and 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy. I almost cried when I dropped some the gravy and biscuits on the floor when my fork slipped and flung the food at my shirt, then my arm and before hitting the floor, my shorts. The small town gossip and banter rolling through this place is reason enough to give it a visit. During our brief visit, the conversation topics ranged from "you should get a scooter. I roll around everywhere." to "I don't want no drama in my life. I'm in a really good place right now. I don't want no drama in here." In all seriousness, Jill's Diner is the epitome of an old time greasy soon diner. Visual: checkered floors, vinyl bar stools, booths, heart-stopping breakfasts for $5/$6 and white haired folk who visit on the daily (alright, alright, I'm guessing on this one but I'd be happy to bet money). My dining companion and I rolled in around 11:30 and opted for breakfast - biscuits and gravy for him (sawmill style with spicy sausage - plenty of gravy to go around or stop your heart) and for me, hashbrowns with scrambled eggs and toast. For some reason I feel really really guilty of writing a bad review of this place. Maybe it's because I'm from out of town and this is the first review. Anyway, take my review with a grain of salt, please. I was traveling from Michigan to Nashville, TN. I stop in Columbus because of it's oddity as a hidden architectural gem in the Midwest and it's about half-way in between. Jill's Diner is located in downtown Columbus just a few minutes off of I-65. The decor is that of a diner. It was not fancy at all. The walls were bare and unadorned. Everything in the restaurant was practical and served a purpose, nothing excessive to get in your way. The restaurant was clean. There was only one guy working. By "working" I mean that he was the host, server, cook and busser. He did it all. He wasn't the fastest guy but he was nice. Well, I got the meatloaf special. The meatloaf was good but it was served cold. It came with mashed potatoes that had like a dried out film on the outside, probably from sitting too long. I think the main problem was that I stopped at 2pm between the lunch and dinner crowd and it was just one man doing it all. It seems like a good place with a good menu. I'd try it again but I'd go during busier hours so hopefully it would be run better. read more

I like coming to Jill's when I'm visiting Columbus. I've only come here for breakfast, but it's fantastic. "Jill's Big Breakfast" with corned hash is my favorite. The place is not fancy, and feels like a homey diner. Every time I come here, there are a bunch of locals and the wait staff and Jill know everybody. Come here for great food and a welcoming atmosphere. Good place to have an intimate conversation as well on the other side of the dining area. read more

Was staying at Hotel Indigo and they wanted $19 for breakfast, no thank you. Walked over to Jill's and you're in for about six bucks with drink. Plus you get a morning walk, hometown charm and some good eats. Decor is an amusing mis-mash of a John Deer bicycle, a faded Whitman's Sampler box and a rickety "bon appetit" display. We came in to the diner around 1130 and we were greeted by a very friendly waitress and a a few customers who were dining on some breakfast. Overall I would say the food was what you do expect from a diner arm pretty good especially the hamburgers and the fried breaded pork sandwich are thrills of venue. However there were a few cons that I'd like to just discuss one you'll notice right away that the menus are a bit dirty and the atmosphere is as well that they could definitely use a quick clean and and the other issue one of our main coffee drinkers had was at the coffee was in the crate I did have a Coca-Cola and that was very fresh so stick with fountain products stick with their main menu items and I think you'll really enjoy it because it is a little charm in the in the city of Columbus so I'll give it a try thanks read more

Jill's Diner is a place where they know their regulars and welcomed the visitors. This local joint is quick, friendly, and extremely cheap. The most expensive item on their menu happen to be a fried shrimp basket for $6.99. Their menu had standard diner eats. While there is no gluten free menu, there are some items that are naturally GF; however, it is a shared grill and a high CC risk. Jill's did make a really good fried potato to accompany my eggs. It's no frills menu has all the standard breakfast fare, and the prices are outdated by about a decade (meaning you get a lot of food for what you pay!) My favorite part about Jill's is the always friendly service. Since the prices are so low we always leave a big tip. Get there before 9am because the place fills up! Its a relatively average size restaurant and tables turn over quickly, so you won't have too long of a wait even if it is full. Perfect for families, solo travelers and couples. read more

Went for lunch. The prices are very good. The sandwich was ok and the person I was with said the burger was below average. But the side of mayo I ordered with my sandwich was gelatinous! If at all possible make sure you sit in the front dining room! It's a complete different world compared to the back dining room. This is my go to place especially when I want to entertain someone. The ladies are down to earth and hilarious. The food tops it all off! Waits on the weekends are longer but the ladies never stop moving and the entertainment is worth it.
