    Pretzel Bites nice-n-girthy

Service was fantastic and the wife and I were thoroughly surprised with how large the pretzel bites were! Oompf, the GIRTH!!

Columbus bar is one of the oldest br in the town and it's locals favorite place to hang out. You can have your own mug hanging on the bar but for that you have to be really regular here.. the service is fast food is good and decent beer menu. It's a small bar but worth trying.

The more places I dine and drink around the state, the more I run into places that are set up differently than others. Even Yelp has a difficult time deciding if this is a bar (Columbus Bar) or a Brewery (Power House Brewing) and has reviews for both places that overlap and are interchangeable. If you haven't been here, Power House bought the bar and serves their limited line (only 3 options) as well as a large number of "guest" beers. The bar itself is very old and sadly, shows its age...not in the best way. Restrooms are small, ceiling tiles are dingy, and it looks like it is "well worn". Some might find it adds character, but my wife noticed a lot of things which made it hard to ignore in my review. There was only one server working the lunch shift and she was serving both the bar and family dining sides which are separated by a wall, so you couldn't see her when she was on the other side. Not a great situation. I will say that some of the food we ordered was really good! I had the Kraut Balls appetizer which include sausage and cream cheese with the sauerkraut and then rolled in panko before deep frying. The horseradish dip (not too strong) gives the appetizer a really flavorful balance. I also liked my pulled pork sandwich. There were nice strips of roasted pork and the sauce (on the side) had a bit of apple flavor that made the sandwich really good. The portion was smaller than most places I've been...maybe that is intentional since it was lunch time. I got to pick a side and I found the cole slaw rather tasteless...no sweetness, no acidity. My wife got the lunch sized tenderloin which is intentionally smaller than most I've tried, but still a decent amount of meat. She thought it a bit overcooked, but otherwise it was fine. She got the steamed veggies which could have used some seasoning, but otherwise were served fully cook, not al dente (which was fine for her.) I think one of the problems I have with a brewery owned business is that they don't serve flights. Most likely, it is because they don't make enough varieties to fill out a flight. I was able to get two samples of the house beers and settled on the Amber Ale "Jack the Bum" (5.8% 62 IBU) which was far more bitter than most ambers I've had. The price was great ($4.75 for a pint) but the beer was just okay. I also tried the Ceraline (4.9% 22) which is an odd combination of Hoppy Cream Ale. I usually think of cream ales as gateway options into craft beer. The hoppy taste in this one might deter a newbie from trying more. Why not simply make an IPA if you want it hoppy? Or just a cream ale? Or make one of each, have four kinds of beers, and be able to offer a flight? I just don't get it for an established brewery to not be able to offer more. To sum up, the food was pretty good, the beer was okay, and it does help support a local business. But there are a lot of other local restaurants and breweries (and some combos) that I much prefer. Lunch Special Chicken Tenders tossed in buffalo sauce Salad with grilled chicken.
    Kara M.

My husband and I had the day off and wanted to go to lunch but didn't want to blow the budget. Columbus Bar was a great choice!!! They have a $7 lunch special with enough options to choose from. He got chicken tenders tossed in buffalo sauce with a side of fries and I got a salad and added grilled chicken. That was around $9. The chicken was real chicken and kind of crispy (which I love). The salad was be enough and very filling. We will definitely be back!

Ultimate beef n cheddar. Roast beef, nacho cheese, horseradish sauce, French onions on a homemade pretzel bun! Gaaaaaaah! Yes!

Before the recent influx of breweries & tap-houses in Indy there was "The Columbus Bar & Powerhouse Brewing". Several years ago we started road-tripping down to Columbus to this wonderful bar/restaurant in order to enjoy whatever house beer they had on tap along with an outstanding selection of guest taps and some really great food. This place still rocks only now they have 4 of their house beers on tap! Their food is consistently delicious - I really love the Mile High Fish Sandwich, the wings, any sandwich on a homemade pretzel bun and those cheesy sausage/kraut balls! And, what has kept us coming back to Columbus Bar is that all of the servers & bartenders have always been super nice and we love the cool, old time tavern atmosphere in the bar area. They are family friendly but honestly I've never been over to that side.

Are you over these new breweries with their exposed steel beams and overall industrial vibe? Fear not! Columbus Bar, home to PowerHouse Brewing, is a step back in time to a scene that's more likely to remind you of an episode of "Cheers". Not only will you find taps from Powerhouse but also a solid selection of craft guest taps. Our visit didn't include food, but it did include samples of all of the Powerhouse beers. I've had Diesel Oil Stout at Indiana beer festivals, and it's definitely the stand out of their lineup. I'm not going to be in a rush to get back to this bar, but it's nice to know that there's a casual spot to cozy up to craft brews in the heart of Columbus.

Would I recommend coming here for food? No. Would I recommend coming here for cheap drinks? Yes…read more My husband and I went here last night for dinner after going down to Columbus to watch our niece play her volleyball tournament. They were packed and had trivia going on, but they still had plenty of places to sit inside and on the small patio. We had wanted to sit outside since the weather was nice, so we grabbed a table in the corner on the patio (it is a seat yourself establishment). After a while, a server came over to get our drink orders and we each ordered a water. I asked for a Bud Light on draft, which was listed on their menu, but he told me they only have it bottles and just had Michelob Ultra on draft that was similar. No problem, we each ordered one of those. Some time passed and I saw our server come out onto the patio, look at us, and promptly spin around to go back inside. A couple minutes later he returned with our waters and an apology about the beers taking a long time because "the bartender was too busy talking." I got more of the impression that he forgot to put in our order at all, hence the quick turnaround to get waters when he realized he never came back to our table. We put in our food orders in the meantime- I ordered the Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries and my husband ordered the roast beef sandwich with sweet potato fries. Drinks came out eventually and were huge/ice cold, which was nice. The food also came out within 10 minutes, which we had initially been happy about because we were so hungry and we still had an hour drive back to Indy. However, my Reuben sandwich had huge, thick chunks of meat vs thinly sliced beef and it was extremely hard to take bites of and took a long time to chew. I had to keep using my hands to rip pieces off the sandwich. There was also hardly any sauerkraut on it. My husband's roast beef sandwich had very little roast beef and absolutely no flavor, but was supposed to have a kick from the horseradish sauce. The sweet potato fries were good though, they just had a little too much salt on them. Overall, we had mixed reviews with our visit. Our beers were only $5.50 each, so that was a crazy good price. Not sure if it's just for trivia night or always like that. Several times throughout our visit we kept getting hit with the smell of cigarette smoke because the patio is off the main sidewalk and no one monitors that people are actually far enough away from the building. Super unpleasant. This is definitely a fun place to meet friends for drinks, but I'd pass on the sandwiches and see if other menu options are better.

So when Gayle, Shauna, and I were looking for a place for Lunch (after listening to darling granddaughter play cello in her school's orchestra at the local high school), I immediately gravitated to the front door. The others were not so sure, but I managed to talk then into it. The interior is a bit dark (as expected) and relatively small, with tables on both side of the center bar. There's a couple TVs and at the time I enjoyed watching Iowa (Go Hawkeyes!) play in the NCAA Women's tournament. Service was friendly, albeit a little slow at times, but we had time and I enjoyed hanging out. And unlike Grandpa Rowan back then, no one was calling the bar asking my whereabouts. Unlike the Milwaukee of old, they weren't serving yellow beer, but rather really good craft brew. 2 of us went for Jack the Bum, while the other chose Diesel Oil Stout. I went full Midwest and ordered a Pork Tenderloin sandwich, which was huge and delicious. Gayle and Shauna enjoyed their beer and salads (BBQ Chicken and Salmon), starting out with Kraut Balls for the table. The hibiscus flavor isn't too sweet or overwhelming, which I like. Combining the two makes a very tasty summer beverage. The building sits on the banks of Driftwood River (now called East Fork White River) and offers spectacular views of the famous Robert N. Stewart Bridge in Columbus, Indiana. Upland Brewing Company is a local brewery that started in Bloomington, Indiana in 1998. Now, they have a number of popular restaurants/pubs across Indiana. The building, built in 1871, served as the Pump House supplying water to the city of Columbus, Indiana. The Pump House faced financial, water and quality challenges over the years, but was instrumental in industrial growth of the city. The Pump House operated until 1950, when the city moved to well water. The Pump House served a number of businesses and organizations since 1950. Upland opened the pub in 2016. We were greeted and promptly seated in the bar when we entered. Our server/bartender, Jess, was attentive and friendly. Several other servers also engaged with us, as well. One brought me a fascinating pamphlet describing the history of the building because I was curious. We arrived in time to sample their 3:00 - 5:00 pm Happy Hour. (I love a good Happy Hour.) We ordered Dragonfly IPAs, which went down smooth on a hot summer day. We also enjoyed a couple of sliders from the Happy Hour menu. The Bad Elmer's Fav burger was good with lots of bacon but my favorite was the Hoosier Tenderloin. I should note that much of the food is locally sourced. The building has a large dining room, bar, private dining, private event room, and a fabulous patio with river views. The landscaping is gorgeous. Their signature beers are available for purchase to go along with the logo shirt and a few other logo items. I highly recommend a visit. The food and beer are first class. The setting is lovely and service is attentive.

Matter of fact I'm not sure if I want to go back. We were sat in an almost empty restaurant but that was most likely because of time of day (around 2). Our waitress though took awhile to come greet us. She took our orders and to start off on a wrong foot our 2 cocktails and WATERS took over 10 minutes to come out. I know this because I had a text I had sent and being aggravated I went back and looked at the time when I sent it . Later on our appetizers came out. It was about 20ish minutes after our order went in. Then our food came about 5 minutes after that giving us little room left on the table. I know it was an almost 45 minute wait to get everything. I ordered the blackened chicken which was amazing my first visit a couple months previously but this time it was dry and definitely blackened .... AKA burnt! The manager was checking on the other tables she had with an additional waitress running around so I assume our waitress wasn't the only one taking care of them (4 as seen in picture actually) and when he popped by to ask how everything was he took my plate to remake it. 15ish MORE minutes go by and I asked the waitress if she could check on my food and she said 'well chicken takes a while to cook'. In disbelief I jokingly said I can make it faster at home so please just get mine to-go since my parents were already done and had been done for awhile. We got to-go boxes for their leftovers and my food came out shortly after . We received $ 40 off without asking so I appreciated getting something for 1 1/2 hours waiting in a nearly empty restaurant and no meal. I went home and when I went to heat up my food AGAIN the chicken was charred and extremely dry. I ate the sweet corn farrotto which was atleast good and trashed the chicken. Since it was now dinner time I made my own meal With the time and overall poorly done meal(s?) I had I think I'll avoid it happening again by just going elsewhere. It's a shame because we went here with a party of 8 previously and they did so good. We were honestly thinking this would be our spot for special occasions after that but it's likely not worth it since the manager and chef left us hanging and yet again served something subpar. I'd of hoped they make absolutely sure my simple chicken dish was correct the second time around I didn't take a pictures of food we got unfortunately. Our appetizers looked and tasted good but they were eaten quickly because we were starving by the time they came out around 3 so no time for those pictures either. I was then too busy sending my food back and eating appetizers. Once my chicken came out togo we all just wanted out of there! Then once I got home I was too aggravated and gave up any reason to go get my phone I suppose. Why bother? They didn't bother to make it right after all except to give us some $ off but I still wasted my time that day and again when I got home making my own food . The manager will definitely remember this disaster though

On to the food ... happy to find that the grilled cheese which is on local sourdough bread and stuffed with a nice amount of spinach could be ordered without bell peppers. It came with choice of side and she chose "Indiana mustard potato salad". Since she is from Indiana thought it funny that which part was "Indiana". I ordered the fish tacos small plate. The chef came out in person to make sure that fresh ahi grade tuna was ok (!) because so many people assume that tacos would have fried fish. He also guaranteed that not a bell pepper would be in site. We were sitting outside on their extensive patio and the beautiful food came out. We could not believe our luck. The $10 tacos were gorgeous and delicious, a bit spicy. The grilled cheese was more than the ordinary. The potato salad was quite good and a little sweet.
