Have never posted a Yelp review before, but
I am very sorry to say this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I was very excited to get my braces and have straight teeth. Unfortunately that never happened
At the beginning of my journey at Columbia orthodontics, I had a bit of crowding on the roof of my mouth, so Croft decided to pull both incisors, "otherwise it will be be too crowded." If you don't know, these are the teeth that chew your food. I was reluctant, but Croft has done this for years, So we did. Come to find out, that according to several other orthodontists, pulling my teeth was not necessary. In fact, it was harmful. An oral surgeon told me that because my teeth were pulled on the top and not the bottom that my bite will never properly line up. And it will likely cause problems. If the top were pulled, the bottom should be too. This is something my dentist also agreed with. However, my bottom teeth are now straight and fit in my jaw well so I don't feel its the right move.
When reaching the end of my experience w Dr. Croft, I was very open about the fact that I was not happy with my teeth. I had a lot of flaring and my top front teeth were still crooked. Even after two years, and regular flossing. Dr. Croft insisted they looked good, and urged me to take my braces off. Being, 16 I did.
It has been 5 years since I've had braces, and because my jaw is now fully developed, I have just shy of an under bite. Meaning that the teeth on my bottom jaw match the ends of the teeth on my top jaw. In order to bite down, I have to pull my jaw back. This has left me with quite a bit of jaw pain. Because it's my front teeth, my front lip also droops. I get regular cuts on the end of my tongue from my top teeth resting on my tongue, since the upper bite is too narrow, and also from the bar that they put in on the bottom. Specialist told me even the built in retainer on my lower teeth was somehow done wrong (?) I shouldn't be cutting my tongue on it. (my friends who have had the same bar, don't seem to have this issue either). I also have space left between my back teeth because of the way the spacers put in. I have never had extra space in my mouth, so that kinda shows I could have fit those teeth in. At the end of the day my teeth were never ever straight, which is frustrating because I went through a lot to get them there. Including pulling two important teeth, which I cannot get back.
Some people may not be as bothered by this, but Another thing is the second time I had gone in for my appointment to see Croft, he directly put his bare hands in my mouth with no gloves. Do not take your kids here.
For the most part, the staff who work here are lovely. However, you will be getting better service else where. He is dismissive and not easy to work with once he is already paid. I do NOT recommend
I will need braces again
I do have to have the lower retainer removed.. so I have to go back in and will readdress these issues while i'm there. If anything changes, I will update the review. read more
