    Hee Haw fame!

Yelp keeps bugging me to write a review of Colts Chocolates, so I suppose I will. Keep in mind I was a visitor here as part of a work trip, so I probably didn't have your typical customer experience. Mackenzie Colt (of former Hee Haw fame, apparently! I had never heard of the show but now I have) gave us a tour of the back where they produce the confections, and then sent us all home with goody bags, which were delicious. We got to try a few samples while in-store too, and all of those were also tasty. She gets 5 stars because prices seemed reasonable, both the shop and the bathroom were clean/well kept-up, and it's a cute little store that deserves a stop-by if you ever find yourself in Nashville.

Cute display inside. Loved the history and photos on the wall.

Omg! Amazing!!! My husband and I were waiting for the brewery next door to open and saw this place and decided to go in to browse just to kill time... we ended up LOVING EVERYTHING! And buying a lot of chocolate to take home! The shop is so cute and we were welcomed by the very nice man behind the counter. He told us about the history of the place and all the different samples scattered around the store! He was so great! If he didn't engage with us we would have probably left empty handed, but he totally sold us and the chocolate really was freakin delicious!!! While we were there multiple people came in to pick up orders they had placed and left with BOXES of chocolates and/or pies, it was really crazy to me to see how busy they were. A man even came in and told us he was just here yesterday and had to come back to get more chocolate covered animal crackers!!! He said they were like crack! Lol!!! I opted for the peanut butter cups and the chocolates that represented turtles.... so good! Very happy we stumbled on this place! Must stop here!

This place is amazing! Your kids will love it; your grandma will love it; most importantly, YOU will love it. Do you remember Hee Haw? Then you remember Mackenzie Colt, one of the Hee Haw Honeys. (see pic from back in the day) Well apparently she could cook as well and sing and dance. After Hee Haw, she baked pies for Honey Baked Ham (they needed a dessert, don't you know), and then she started this chocolate company, which also sells those pies. I did not try any of the pies, though I now regret that oversight. Maybe I'll go back tomorrow. But there are great chocolate confections. And they provide plenty of free samples to try. My favorite was the chocolate covered marshmallows. They'll sell you a single one if you're trying not to eat a whole bag of them, and they're individually wrapped so they stay fresh as long as possible. And that's one thing I really like: the chocolate has an expiration date. She's not going to sell you chocolate that's not perfect. I really appreciate that. (See pic of her now) This should be on the tours of Nashville. It's a country music song-worthy story from a woman who sang at the Grand Old Opry. Perfect Nashville.

    Buy it!!

Some day, I will find myself in Nashville, TN. When that day comes, a stop at Colt Chocolates will be a priority. Recently, an awesome friend of ours went to Tennessee. One of the things he brought back was a bag of Marie McGhee's Bumble Bees. The Chocolate Pecans and Caramel flavor. According to the information on the bag, it is a product of Colts Chocolates. It tasted really good!! Can only imagine how their other creations must taste like. Look forward to finding out in the future.

If you see this awning, go inside!

Sometimes when you get lost, you find the most amazing places. My mom and I were trying to get back to our car while walking around the Gulch neighborhood. Somehow we ended up behind the parking garage and ended up in what seemed to be the middle of construction land and the middle of no where. Then we saw this little red awning that had the word chocolate on it. Well we have to go in. They had little tasters out everywhere. Everything we tried was really good. Both my mother and I left with a bag full of chocolate to bring home.

As a lover of fun treats this was just the info I want to know about. The shop/factory is located in the busiest area of downtown so be prepared to find expensive parking if you are driving(we paid $32 for 2 hrs) This was such a fun stop though! The day we were there I saw two separate groups doing the make your own goo goo tour. We didn't plan that far ahead so decided to just do the design your own and the workers made it for us using our custom fillings and coatings. It took only about 15 min after ordering to be done. It was about 90 degrees out the day we went so we sat at one of the stools to give our creation a taste at its freshest and not risk it melting. It was delicious of course! If you go, don't forget to check out the Premium limited edition flavors. During our visit they had Fluffer Crunch, The Howie and PB &P. We almost purchased the Fluffer Crunch but we decided we had enough candy at this point. Next time!

We accidently ran across it while heading to the Lainey Wilson place next door. Once I saw it, I had to stop in. He obviously has been in the business a while. He made the tour easy to understand and walked us through the entire process. It's really awesome they make everything from scratch and using so few ingredients. You can really taste the quality of their chocolate. Sadly, they didn't have the grinding machines with the chocolate in them because they were out of the beans! They were having shipping issues with their stock. But we were able to taste a bit of everything they sold which was really cool. We picked up their dark and milk chocolate bar at the end of the tour. Highly recommend for a bit of fun!

Per some sources, they are the first bean to bar chocolate maker in Tennessee, and they even offer weekly factory tours, although I wasn't able to make it in time for one. Olive and Sinclair has a relatively small retail area. They have all of their products on display and more importantly, have tons of samples! I ended up trying basically everything. The chocolatier doesn't advertise where they source their cocoa from but I asked an employee and she said they switch it up all the time. Apparently the current batch is from Peru, which gives the chocolate a pretty neutral taste at the start but then transitions to a kind of sharper dried fruit taste. They also sell several types of caramels. The Ghost Pepper Caramel starts with the caramel sweetness. It's only a second or two later that some heats starts to show up. I'm not sure how much ghost pepper they actually use; the heat is a bit more than just a warmth, but isn't nearly to the point of being painful. The heat lingers for quite a while, enough that I had to wait a good five minutes before trying another caramel! Interestingly I think this one has the "cleanest" caramel taste, at least at the start before the pepper kicks in! The Duck Fat Caramel has similar sweet undertones but adds on a really savory and almost meaty element on top. The Sea Salt & Vinegar Caramel has a light vinegar scent. It starts with sweetness and a light tang, but then the vinegar gets stronger. It never gets to the point of tasting like a vinaigrette, but is quite noticeable. To be honest, I'm not a fan of any of the caramels. They are certainly unique and nice to try though! I ended up picking some of their more intriguing products - the Bourbon Nib Brittle and the Smoked Nib Brittle - for gifts. From what I tried in store, they're both exactly as the names imply: super bourbon forward sweet candy, and a surprisingly intense smoky sweet. Yum! Olive and Sinclair Chocolate is definitely a place to pick up some unique local gifts! I wish I had made it in time for one of their tours.

When I arrived, there weren't many people in line, so ordering was quick and easy. One of the things I loved right away was how the building felt more like a home than a bakery. There was some cute merchandise to browse, and signs throughout the space clearly directed customers where to go to order. Once I made my way to the counter and saw the donut selection for the day, I was beyond excited. Everything looked amazing! I knew I wanted to take some donuts home to share with my chiropractor and her team since she was actually the one who recommended that I visit in the first place. Thankfully, they offered a box of six mini donuts, which was the perfect option for sharing. Of course, I couldn't leave without getting a few full-sized donuts for myself and my husband. After much debate, I chose the Maldon Chocolate, Wild Berry, and Boston Cream. Once everything was packed up and ready to go, I headed outside, but there was no way I was waiting until I got home to try one. The Wild Berry donut was calling my name, so I took a bite right there. It was warm, soft, flaky, and bursting with flavor. The berry filling was delicious, and they definitely didn't skimp on it. Every bite was packed with sweet, fruity goodness. Honestly, that first bite was pure perfection and exactly what I needed before a long drive home. Sharing the donuts with everyone when I got back made the experience even more fun, and they were a huge hit. Overall, this bakery absolutely lived up to the hype, and I can't wait to come back and try even more flavors on my next visit!
