First time here I haven't eaten my food yet, but it looks and smells wonderful getting food to go as well. I'll update when I'm home. Server Kimmie sweet as can be and very good server service was awesome. It was like out here in a minute and ready to dig in! Awesomeness!

House salad with ranch dressing.

Nice local restaurant with a cowboy theme. Dined with some friends. We all ordered either the NY Strip steak or Pork Chops. The NY Strip Steak was 12 oz and served with choice of two sides. I chose the house salad with ranch dressing and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were slightly undercooked, not crunchy. So I ate some of hubby's loaded baked potato. After you place your order, they bring out the bread basket. These are homemade yeast rolls that melt in your mouth. After a day on the bourbon trail we just ordered water to drink. Appetizers: fried pickles with spicy ranch dressing is very good and enough to share; JT's Onion Blossom is just like a bloomin onion from that Australian restaurant.

Steak and shrimp.

Service at this spot was damn good. Zachary took care of me at the bar. He is an ideal server. Timing was perfect checked back often kept the tea full. Food was not great. My first steak was way over cooked. The recook was still over done. Can't say I would blame the cook. Seems like the thickness of the cut is inconsistent, one half of the steak was Med to Med. Well the other thick part was Med Rare. The shrimp were pathetically small.

Good bacon cheeseburger with very decent mac & cheese

So I will give this place 5 stars despite a couple issues because the food was soooo good. Finding…read moreplace to eat in Bardstown while on our bourbon trail vacation was a struggle and we made reservations here for 7 on a Sunday. Um, when I double checked where it was, I noticed the close at 7?!?? So we left as soon as we could and got there at 6:35 and yes,, they close at 7:00. But the one waiter there was fine with seating us and he did a good job and was so nice and calm. The place reminded mr of old school supper club type places your grandparents would take you too. Nothing splashy but cute. Upstairs there was a bar and seating area too. The food was soooo good. I got their chicken special and my husband got the steak special for the night. It was so much food but it was just good old cooking yet not just "plain". My husband said the mushrooms he got with the steak were easily the best he has ever had. We ate until we were going to burst. And it was getting late but the staff was not pushing us or anything (we tried to get done as quick as we could though for their sake). It was a really nice experience.

The ambiance was wonderful for a date...dimly lit, seated off in a corner, and history all around. We were seated quickly and met by the friendliest server we had on this trip. We had the catfish and Cornish hen and both were wonderful! The house made chips that came with the catfish were better than could have been imagined. We wrapped thermal up with house made cheesecake and it didn't disappoint either! I would highly recommend Toogie's if you are in Bardstown!

Once seated we were given some recommendations by our sever, Bethany, who did an excellent job of taking care of us. So we ended up ordering the Pulled Pork Platter & Shrimp & Grits. Our meals arrived in short order & everything was outstanding. Our only complaint was the acousticss were pretty awful which made carrying on a conversation a little difficult but I suppose there isn't much that can be done about that. All in all we were more than happy with our experience & we will absolutely return again in the future.

The shepherds pie was just okay. Green fried tomatoes were fine, but missing the mark on the sauce. We ordered a special, souvlaki chicken. It was two skewers of really small, burnt and overcooked chicken with peppers on a bed of what tasted like microwaveable rice. Totally missing the seasoned and bright-herbaceous mix of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and oregano. Just go to the bar. Find some other place for dinner.

We ordered appetizers which were actually very good! The hot artichoke dip--fantastic! And I have had many over the years. We ordered the bruschetta. I never thought someone could improve upon such a normally simple dish, but they did! It was simply delightful! The bread slightly sweet and lightly garlicky, ripe firm tomatoes and a drizzle of syrupy, balsamic vinegar. I should have made that my meal! Now our entrees were unimpressive and our prelude really had us psyched for something amazing. I ordered the wild mushroom ravioli. Not sure how "wild" cremini mushrooms were but I took two bites and I was done. I forgot what my husband had, but he did the same--two bites and done! We are willing to give it another go, simply because we were teased by the appetizers. Come on Rickhouse! Get yer sh-t together!
