What I didn't like about this office was how much they push sales. When I was getting fitted for glasses I just wanted to get what the insurance would completely pay for-which was one pair of frames on the rack. I didn't want any of the extra add-ons or insurance and even after saying no it was continuously repeated to me. I get that it's their job to sell but if I say I don't want it, I don't want it. I also had retinal imaging done while I was there and I was informed that it wasn't covered by the insurance, it was a $30 charge. I had it done and as I was sitting with the optician my break down of benefits that she had in front of her very clearly stated that retinal imaging was covered under my plan. They still charged me and said that they will bill my insurance for the procedure but it wasn't a covered service. I later spoke to my insurance and they did confirm that the break down of benefits was correct and that I shouldn't have been charged for the imaging. A few days after the appointment I called my insurance to make sure that the retinal imaging was billed, and the office left it off the claim. The office in turn lied when they said they would still bill my insurance. The office staff also gave me a problem when I asked for my pupillary distance and my frame measurements. I understand that they want the patients to order frames through their office, but in the event that I need to replace my glasses, I will not pay the hundreds of dollars when there are much more affordable ones online and a much wide seThe patient has every right to obtain their own information and the office can't withhold it for their own benefit.

She continues to display the utmost professionalism, expertise, honesty, and if needed empathy. We always leave our visit knowing she has the best interest in the well being our vision. Additionally, the staff is and always has been fantastic. "Moddi" continues to be an expert in helping us pick out just the right glasses for our face frame... We were extremely apprehensive to attend our visit during Covid 19, as I am an OSHA Safety Trainer as well as an Educator in Infection Control Practices, I unconsciously watch to see if everyone is following guidelines. Needless to say, this office practice was spot on and received a 100. The door was locked and only patients who had an appointment were allowed to enter. The entire office was immaculate, seats and touch areas were immediately washed after use. Masks all worn properly, hands washed, touch surfaces such as countertops were washed, glasses that were tried on were sanitized, equipment washed in front of us prior to use. Thank you to Dr. Bonnanzio and her entire staff.

The plus side: The office is very friendly especially the woman at the front desk. They had a great selection of frames including Coach, Versace, Calvin Klein, Ed Hardy and a few other designers. Prices were a lot better than your Lens Crafters or Pearle Vision stores. My appointment was at 3 and they took me at 3:02 so there wasn't a huge wait. Dr. Conrod was extremely personable and polite and explained my many options for eye care. The negative: The tech or whomever that I first saw was really rude and possessed the listening skills of a toddler. If I have to explain to you multiple times in a five minute conversation that I mainly wear glasses and rarely wear contacts and I want to wear contacts daily and use my glasses as a back up, you really are not listening to me at all. It's frustrating to be a new patient with a new provider and have the staff treat you like you're stupid and you wouldn't possibly understand your own eye care or eye health. In a similar vein, the woman at the front desk gave me the fifth degree over my insurance plan, corrected what I said and then ended up being wrong. However she, unlike the tech or whatever, apologized and corrected her mistake. Honestly? LISTEN TO YOUR PATIENTS! If it wasn't for the doctor himself, I would have gone elsewhere. I'm hoping that when I go back to for my contact lens follow up, I have a better experience.

They called me the day of at 2:30 to see if I could come early so the doc could leave earlier...I thought that was a little unprofessional but ehh. Perhaps I would too if I had a job that allowed something like that. Upon my arrival (at 4 as I couldn't make it earlier), they saw me immediately and even charged me a lower fee as I've had contacts before despite being a first time patient here. That was nice. Doc also gave me an extra "trial" pair of lenses. Always appreciated cause contacts are expensive and my insurance doesn't cover much. Overall, I plan to come back next year for my annual exam/prescription. I don't wear glasses so I can't speak to that. Staff were all friendly and down to earth.

"And I will sing Waiting for the gift of sound and vision"…read more(David Bowie) One of the side effects of living in your town for almost 40 years is that your doctors eventually retire and you'll need to find a replacement. It happened with my primary care physician (as well as his replacement). It happened to my dentist. And it happened to my eye doctor. So that explains why in December 2015, I became a patient of Solinsky Eye Care when they took over my eye doctor's practice upon his retirement. Solinsky has ten locations across Connecticut, and I visit Dr. Jessica Olewnik at the Avon office. She has been fantastic to work with. She is friendly, personable, and extremely thorough and helpful. Solinsky is very proactive on keeping up with technology and industry advances. Did you have one of those field of vision exams? Just a few years ago, the current technology would have you stick your face into a contraption that reminded me of a submarine captain peering into a periscope, like Sean Connery did in "The Hunt for Red October". Well, that is no longer state of the art. Yesterday I had the same test using a Virtual Reality headset! And I have to mention Solinsky's Front Desk Associate (I'm embarrassed I can't remember her name) who may be the greatest goodwill ambassador I've ever seen in a medical setting. She's been there forever and is a holdover from Solinsky's predecessor.

They never bothered to submit to insurance (never told me) and when I was due to pick up glasses they told me I could get the frames now and the lenses in a year! Of what benefit is that? It took an entire day for ME, without their help, never disclosing they failed to submit to insurance and were deceptive about ordering glasses three weeks prior, to straighten this entire mess out. An unbelievable nightmare. They finally submitted to insurance and immediate coverage of course but I had to wait an additional three weeks for glasses to come in for a total of six weeks unable to see. They never offered to expedite. Then the glasses come in and I can not see a thing through them. I was told to keep wearing and get used to them. Could NOT see. Had horrible headaches from straining to see. Then the final visit for a lens prescription change when the frustrated doctor changed the exam lenses so fast that vertigo was brought on snapping at me "which one you see better" and my ability to answer because I could not either. I just guessed to stop him from snapping at me. Finally I could not take it anymore, gave up, left in tears NEVER to return EVER again! They were good upon initial opening. Now it is incredibly difficult and I truly do not want to leave this bad review but hopefully the Dr and the VERY, VERY rude staff will understand there is very real problem that needs to be addressed. Customer service is horrendous. Horrendous! Now I know why. If the doctor is snappy of course the staff would be the same and incredibly incompetent as well. I hope they can fix their issues, I truly do. As long as nobody messes up they are adequate however if there is an issue you are in for one heck of a long, impossible nightmare.
