i've been coming to this cleaner for 2 years now and i've always been met with good service and good quality work. i'm on the shorter side so i need to get my pants hemmed often and they do a fantastic job, she has me come in and try on the pants each time so that they're exactly how i want. they also do my dry cleaning and it's always in perfect condition, i recently brought them a vintage ralph lauren sweater that had crazy yellow stains from i don't even know what... it almost looked like dryer burns? she did let me know from the get go that she wasn't sure if she would be able to get them out just from the severity of it but she had it ready in 2 days and it was perfectly cleaned! i cant recommend them more i don't really feel that it's that much more expensive than other dry cleaners in the area, and they get your stuff done quickly read more

I have been going here for years and recently had my pants hemmed. I wore them once then washed them once and the hem completely unraveled. I brought my pants back and they told me hemming is only guaranteed for one month. Unbelievable! If I wanted them fixed they wanted to charge me the same price again. So I've been dropping off my clothes here for the last few years and this place absolutely deserve at least four stars. Their service is phenomenal. They're very polite, respectful and courteous. Anytime a mom and Pop remembers your name and phone number suggests that they take time memorizing who you are as a person and that speaks more than a personal level. As far as the quality of their cleaning, they've always done an amazing job making sure everything I pointed out is address. Furthermore when I had alterations done, they were done exactly with my measurement as requested. I recognize that not every everyone's experience is the same and at times there may be scenarios where the end product may not be expected, but this place has never let me down. The pricing is also on point, I don't think they're overly expensive however they are in UTC and rent cannot be cheap. If you think they're overpriced, certainly you can do it at home, but I don't know if you're gonna find any other shops as comparable in the area. read more

I don't think they have a good wash qualities. I put one coat and a sweater that are really sensitive to wash reagents to wash and they slightly destroyed the texture. Also I lost my belt there. Instead of helping me, they just consistently claimed that it was not their responsibility because there was no record in their computer that I have a belt along with the coat. I have been a customer of Colony Cleaners for 6-7 years; but NO MORE! Last month, I brought in an area rug to be cleaned and they told me that they would be sending the rug to Los Angeles and it would be ready in about 3-4 weeks. On Saturday, I picked up the rug from Colony and when I returned home, unwrapped it from the plastic, it looked like it had not been cleaned. I immediately called Colony and there was no answer. I also tried to text photos to the text message I received (from them) stating the rug was ready but the text did not go through. Yesterday (Monday), I called the store and the owner said to bring it back. I brought the rug back this morning and showed her the spots and dirt that was still there. She took the rug, put it on the floor and measured it. Then, she told me "this isn't the rug...this is a different rug." I was shocked by her accusation! After raising my voice and arguing this was the rug I picked up on Saturday (from her husband), she finally agreed to send the rug back to LA to clean it again, gave me a ticket with redo on it, and I left the store. While driving away, her husband called me and said this is not the rug I picked up on Saturday. We had an argument on the phone, and I said I would come right back to the store. Upon arriving back at the store, he told me "this is a different rug". I told him I picked it up from him on Saturday and showed him pictures I had taken when I returned home an hour later. The photo was date stamped Saturday 4:02 and clearly showed the dirt and stains were still there. Having been accused of lying, I did not take kindly to their accusations and my frustration lead to my yelling at them and saying I have been a loyal customer of yours for years and now you are calling me a liar! He said, as did his wife, that the size of rug is different, and it is not the rug that was cleaned. I replied that you must have measured it wrong in the first place and why would I Iie about a $54 cleaning charge for a rug when I have spent thousands of dollars in cleaning at your store! He picked the rug off the floor, crumpled it, and put it on the counter whereby I told him to roll the rug back up nicely and give it back to me and I would take it to Margaret Cleaners in La Jolla. I also told them they have now lost a good customer and I will be telling everyone I know not to use their services. PLEASE NOTE: I have never written a negative review for any company before, and I am extremely angry that they thought I was trying lie and deceive them. Wouldn't even want to give them a 1 Star. They took my $700 worth of Nordstroms closed I paid for dry cleaning and they "washed them". My clothes completely shrunk and then they had the courage to tell me "prices are the same" as I said "I paid for dry cleaning $6 a shirt and you charged me for that but washing them is $3.25 on your sign". My husband and I have been using this cleaner for over a year now primarily out of convenience (we live nearby). My husband drops his uniform off at least once weekly. The price for 1 pair of pants and 1 dress shirt is $11.60, which has always seemed extremely pricey to us. Not only that they offer no regular customer discount or incentive. Last week, in addition to his normal pant/shirt drop-off, I included two sundresses that I needed to get cleaned. When I went to pick up yesterday, the bill was $42.60!!! I asked why it was so expensive and the man said it was because each dress was $16. That is just crazy expensive to me and the guy just laughed and said well that is what it costs in this area. I will likely be taking my business elsewhere. But if using this cleaner know: 1) They never give you price quotes when you drop off the items so be sure to ask so you aren't shocked when you pick up. 2) Expect to pay at least 20% more than other cleaners in San Diego 3) Probably an okay option if you only need something cleaned once in a great while but not a good option for regular cleaning - no coupons/incentives. read more

This place is only good for a so so job and convience for people in the UTC/UCSD area. I just think they are a bit stingy. I had a coupon (15% off) from Vons next door and tried to use it. They refused to let me use it saying that I had to give it to them before hand. I told them I didn't know and could they just make this one exception. I've been going to them for the past year and a half, doing my alterations and dry cleaning there (I GIVE THEM A LOT OF BUSINESS) and I thought they could've just honor it this one time! I've finally had it with this place dry cleaning dress shirts that could and should be laundered, thereby doubling the price. I don't believe this business has adequate wetcleaning facilities, therefore I think they use dry cleaning processes on as much as possible. A garment that has "machine washable" on its tag should be cleaned that way, unless otherwise discussed. Dry cleaning typically costs 175 percent more than laundering, and according to most cleaners it is not not suitable for the type of soiling that occurs with a man's shirt. It's not as good at removing perspiration and the oils that occur around the neck. For linen, drycleaning is considered a harsh, last resort for stains. The other oddity here is the decision to press creases on some pants, while leaving others uncreased. Why would khakis be uncreased by default? With khakis oftentimes being worn to work in these relatively casual times, who wants to look like you're about to go work in the garden with no creases? I just paid $72 for what at most cleaners would have cost $40. Two drycleaned linen shirts were $6.05 each (should have been laundered); a zip-up cotton sweater was priced as a jacket at $9.50; a casual linen short sleeved shirt cost $5.30 (should have been laundered). Goodbye my little money-happy chemical engineers! It's been fun. It's been toxic. And now it's over. read more

I don't understand the negative critiques of Colony Cleaners. First, they do fairly good work as far as I'm concerned and from what I've read, few complain about the quality. The biggest gripe seems to be about pricing. I read one particular review of the woman and her two pair of jeans. Didn't it occur to her to pay for the "great deal" when she dropped off the items? If you are standing at the counter and you think the deal is too good to be true, pay up front. There you go, problem and solution. I've only used Colony Cleaners for alterations, but I've been summarily pleased with the results, the prices and the fast service. If you are not pleased with their pricing structure, you don't have to leave your items there, you can always find another cleaner. Sometimes I think people like to complain just so they can have some sense of empowerment. I don't get it. I've never heard a bad word about them from any of my friends or neighbors. In fact, I started using them because they were so highly recommended by a neighbor. If people had any concept of what it cost to run a business, maybe they wouldn't gripe so much. read more

(Warning: My review is based on 1+ year old info because I've stopped going to them.) They were cheaper than some places, but I kept losing buttons on my dress shirts. About 1 out of every two times I took a shirt to them, it came back with buttons broken (or partially broken). Whoever does the press work appears to just ignore the buttons and slams down on them. This cleaners has been my go-to for years!! They are so reliable and fast, and the quality is amazing. If you ask for an expedited time frame, they are more than willing to get your order done for you. I've been bringing my slacks, blazers, dresses, and also my fiancé's dress shirts and pants and nothing has ever been messed up. They do upcharge a little for stains that are more stubborn that they have to do extra work on, but it's totally worth it! This place's prices are the most modest compared to other neighboring cleaners. Trust me, I am a very frugal person when it comes to paying for such things and so I've done my research and know for a fact that other cleaners are higher in prices all around. I really wish I had read the reviews before getting two of my suits steam pressed there. I had one old and one new suit that didn't even have its tags removed. A couple days later, I picked it up, went back to my apartment, and left my suits still wrapped up in my closet so they'd stay in perfect condition for my job interviews. Once I put them on, I realized there was a small hole on each suit's left sleeve. When I went back to Colony Cleaners to complain about them, they got incredibly defensive and kept accusing me of messing up my clothes. One of the employees even came up with the stupid argument that mold was eating away at my clothes, even before I had explained the situation, as if it's his go-to way of deflecting blame. So, we kept arguing, and I kept telling them to fix my suits and take responsibility for their actions, neither of which they did until their other customers came and saw what the commotion was about. Once I started embarrassing the owners in front of their customers, they decided to try and fix it. I picked up my clothes back from them, still disappointed that their little stitches barely repaired the holes. I asked for my money back ($50-$60) and was declined. I probably could've yelled at them more, but I thought it'd be a waste of my time because all the energy they could put into providing good customer service, they instead put into avoiding taking responsibility for damaging their customers' clothes. So that's my experience with them. Two suit jackets, one of which was completely new, whose combined price is something like $500-$600, were damaged by Colony Cleaners, and I didn't get my money back. Colony Cleaners is one of my stables. They clean all of my work clothes including peacoats, blazers, sweaters, and trousers. They also hemmed two pairs of my pants. I consider their service to be reliable, though unremarkable. Their pricing is a little steep but reasonable. I usually shop at Vons to obtain their 15% off coupon from the back of the receipt. I came to Colony Cleaners for the first time 3 weeks ago. I was in a panic as I had to have a too small bridesmaid dress basically reconstructed. I walked in so stressed out wondering how I was going to wear this dress that I could not move or walk in. With the wedding only 3 weeks away from the day I initially brought it to them. The three women working here were so helpful and reassuring that my dress would fit me once the seamstress was done with it. Each visit and fitting was a great experience. My dress fits beautifully, and the pricing was extremely reasonable considering all the work that was done. I will definitely be coming back here for all of my future alterations. I've taken several pants here for alterations in the past, and have always been pleased, even the one time they hemmed pants several inches too long... they re-did the job no problem, at the right length, and i was happy. However, recently i brought in a pair of jeans to be hemmed, and i'm so sorry i did. They're ruined, and come on, it's hard to find a great pair of jeans that fit and look great. I took in a sample pair of jeans that were the correct length and had an"original jeans hem." That's where they keep the original hem on the jeans, so that the finished look still has the original jeans thread, seam, same details. So, the lady said she didn't want to use the sample for some reason, had me try the jeans on, insisted that one leg is shorter then the other, when i said no, same length. When i picked up the jeans, one leg is shorter than the other, and the hem is not an original jeans hem, just a generic hem that doesn't even use jeans thread. RUINED my jeans. Will NEVER come here again for alterations. read more

I had been going to this place since 2019 or 2020 for all of my dry cleaning and alterations needs, and they had always done a great job. I recently had a pair of extensive silk pants cleaned by them, and today I noticed that the stain I had asked them to remove not only appeared larger than before, but also that the surrounding silk fabric had stretch marks in it from the cleaning. I asked for a refund over the phone and they asked me to come in. When I went in, the manager/owner ended up arguing with me and telling me that the stain had not gotten bigger and that other customers often had the same complaint. They did take responsibility for the stretch marks in the fabric they had caused. I would have been happy with just a refund and possible explanation for why the stain appeared bigger, however they ended up telling me my comments were incorrect and not offering any explanation for what happened. I did not feel respected as a customer and I am not going back to their business because of their lack of professionalism. They handled this situation poorly and made me feel like I was lying to them, which I swear I was not. Now my pants have a much more noticeable stain and no clear reason for why this happened. read more

My husband normally picks up the clothes and he says that the price is reasonable. The service is good and the people who work there are nice as well. I even had a nice long friendly conversation with the Asian woman the last time I went in. We have done everything from alternations to just normal dry cleaning. I've dropped off a variety of clothing to be washed/day cleaned at this location and each item has been returned to be in pristine condition. I'm also able to bring back the hangers/plastic wrap which I love because that creates less new waste out into the world. travis s below summed it up pretty well. i had 3 dresses i needed to get altered because they were all too big. this is nothing new for me, i have to get a lot of crap altered, and USUALLY i wait til i go home to orange county to have cranky, vietnamese ladies alter them for me at about $7/article; $10 if it's a hard job. however, seeing as how i only go home once a month, i'm usually unable to get my items back til the next month i come back home... this time, i needed the dresses sooner. i only chose to go here because it's close and convenient. i can't speak for the dry cleaning, but the alterations are WAYYYY too overpriced. i mean, I realize this is la jolla and rent is not cheap like it is back home, but i estimated that my cost would be around $40-$50. i watched as the lady punched in a bunch of mystery charges into the monitor...grand total to alter 3 dresses? $74. are you freaken serious?!! i don't even think the cost of my dresses equaled that much --- no, i'm POSITIVE it didn't equal that much; at those rates, i could have just bought 3 new dresses! to take up straps that were too big, $12. pinch in a dress to make it fitted, $17. to adjust a 1-shoulder dress that was like a sack on me, $45. they make charges on every small detail... take dress in, $10 hem bottom of dress, add another $10, shorten strap, $10, adjust dress to accommodate above changes, $10, make college student starve for a week to pay for these alterations, $5. i considered waiting to go back home, but i felt bad that they lady had already pinned up the dress in the necessary places and everything. my dresses turned out well, and it was kind of the people to iron them nicely when they returned them, but i would never pay those monstrous, mystery prices again.....!!!!!! read more

i used to take my silk gowns here to be dry cleaned - do tell them not to hard press because whomever does the pressing does it so hard, the label marks show on the other side...and i'm talking about a high end silk gown. i had to steam it out at home. the pros: location is easy the cons: they once charged me $36 for the same silk gown dry cleaning calling it a "rush job" since i asked for 1 day service. mind you, the sign outside does say...same day. it is just missing "i'm going to charge you more if you want it same day." and of course they told me while i was paying and not when i dropped it off. they did a decent job on my jacket but i'll take my "rush jobs" and silk gowns elsewhere. read more

The bill came to 9.80 I offered my credit card and was told that there was a 10.00 minimum. I asked if she could let a good customer slide this once and she said no? I went here to get my Calvin Klein dress dry cleaned. Took it in on Friday and needed it clean by Tuesday morning, they told me they will have it set for over night service( i dont know if they work weekends?). I had several chocolate stains on it from little kids attacking me, and armpit stains =[. When i picked up my dress, the lady that worked there was a bit rude, but they got out the chocolate stains very well and most of the armpit stains out( should have taken before and after photos). With a 15% off coupon i was charged 15$ for the dress(possible combo of "overnight service" and stain removal). I've never had to get anything dry cleaned before. I wouldn't mind trying other places to be able to give more in depth review. Over all, they did a good job and i wish it wasn't that much to clean it( though i dont know what a reasonable amount is to clean it). read more

It's disheartening to see so many bad reviews of this place because my experiences have been completely different. I've been coming here for a few months now since my parents moved to SD and I haven't had anything less than exceptional service. The girl working here (Rebecca) is super friendly and took real good care of me. I brought in a suit with some pretty nasty wine and oil stains on it and they said they would do their best to get it out.. when I came back a couple days later they magically made it disappear without a trace! Take note that I've been to two other cleaners before this and they couldn't get the darned jacket clean! You can tell they have high quality chemicals and equipment unlike other cleaners. I totally agree with Crystal about the coupon thing. In addition to that though, I have had a few negative experiences which means I will never go back to Colony Cleaners (even though it is close to my house). First off, they up charge you for everything and you won't even know it because their pricing sign in SUPER small (makes me feel like I am being tricked). For example, I was up charged for having pants dry cleaned, because they were white (I wear them only in the summer, of course:)) Who knew that was an up charge?! Then they charged me extra for a dress, claiming it had a liner, when really all I had was a two toned linen dress. On top of that, and this totally bugs me, but they charge more for a button down women's shirt compared to men's shirts (which actually goes against California Codes). I am NEVER going back there again. read more
