I loved being able to enjoy a beautiful water view walk within a few minutes of leaving my room. I also enjoyed walking downtown which was less than a mile where there are multiple great dining options and shopping. The common areas are great. The main lobby and wrap around porch of the main building are wonderful, inviting and very relaxing. The grounds are spacious with a pool (closed in the fall), gym, and indoor hot tub. There is plenty of free parking. We loved the first day's breakfast and wish we had gone out on the second day. The number of breakfast options decrease when there are less guests. It is available 7 a.m - 10 a.m. The room was extremely clean and spacious but the space was not well designed. There was not a desk or table which is a big drawback for me. The shower is small. A larger person would find it difficult to use. The ironing board was horrible. It was a small one to use on the sink coulter with a leg that would stay up. It kept falling. All staff were very friendly.

I really enjoyed my stay at this historic inn, which was established in 1894. My deluxe double east room had a nice balcony that faces the main entrance building. The gas fireplace took the chill out of the room and created a cozy atmosphere. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious, with plenty of closet space. It was very clean with new furniture and a nice layout. Breakfast is included with your stay with different delicious items offered each morning from 7-10 am. The staff were very friendly-and there are fresh cookies at check in! Colonial Inn is closed from end of October until mid-May

Beds made poorly with sheets that hardly fit.

Looks way better online. We stayed 3 nights and each day it seemed like the quality of cleaning got worse. Our beds looked like they were made by a toddler or not made at all, bugs under the bed frame, hard mattresses and overall needs a little interior love. Would not recommend unless you have no other options.

Very clean hotel. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. She pointed us towards the good food and beaches. Our room was small with two full beds but so nice! The shower had about 4 different settings. Pool and hot tub were across the street. The hot tub is indoors so it was a nice and quiet place to relax after the day! Very nice hotel.

    Rooms are very nice

We were immediately offerred assistance with our bags, which we utilized since my wife can't lift anything heavy. Our room was perfect and spacious, with a nice little balcony. The Kilwin's chocolates were a nice little welcome surprise. The weather was unseasonably warm, so we actually spent a few hours at the pool and laying in one of the cabanas on the lake. It was super relaxing and a pleasant surprise. We expected the pool to be closed for the season already. The rest of the grounds on the lake side of the hotel were amazing. From the perfectly manicured bent grass lawn to the outdoor patio, everything was beautiful. The morning breakfast buffet was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the omelet station which had lots of ingredients to choose from. One morning, we treated ourselves to a couple's massage at the spa. The staff was very accommodating for my wife. It was my first time ever getting a massage an it was super relaxing! The whole Bay Harbor development around the hotel is kind of odd, with a fake downtown and what looks like an attempt to create a walkable residential area, yet it was missing key sidewalks to get around. Go to the nearby towns and explore. The Inn at Bay Harbor isn't going to be the cheapest option in the area, but it's one of the best if you want full amenities and a more luxurious up north experience (not usually my cup of tea, but it was fun to once). It's great for a special occassion or an anniversary getaway.

There were three of us and we worked our way down the menu. We ordered two first courses, a combination of peaches and lemon cucumbers and burrata, and roasted beet hummus. It cannot reliably be said which was tastier than the other. Each was excellent. The fish that was flown in that day was halibut, so we ordered that. Halibut if even slightly overcooked tends to dry out. This did not. It was delicious. We also ordered roasted calamari, a large tube that was perfectly cooked (no mean feat). Finally, we turned to dessert. Here again there were two that caught our collective eye, the olive oil cake with blueberries and a panna cotta with grape granita. The olive oil cake was appropriately moist and tasty. We had doubts about the grape granita on panna cotta, but those doubts were set aside upon tasting how they worked together. The panna cotta was perfectly prepared and the grape granita was a nice addition to it. A word must be said about our server, Ashley. I knew that Otis has a scratch kitchen and I have a peculiar food allergy. Ashley checked with the chef and steered me away from eating certain of the choices. She was otherwise attentive and very pleasant. We started with Campari spritzes and ordered an obscure Gruner-Veltliner for dinner. There is an extensive wine list and cocktail list. And did I mention that we sat outdoors? All in all, this was an extraordinary experience and we will definitely be back.

This cozy hotel, nestled near Petosky and surrounded by many wineries, is the most fabulous boutique hotel. The outdoor trees are beautifully decorated and it makes you feel like you're in a hallmark movie. As we drove up, and parked we were met by an employee who knew our names and took our bags to our room. Felt like I was in Dubai getting VIP status service again. Our check-in was swift, and we were given a tour of the downstairs which had an amazing bar with a roaring fire, and free snacks and waters. It also had a small gym, and a game room containing a billiards table. Once we finally got to the room we were so shocked. The room was massive and absolutely breath taking. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the sheets were super soft. The highlight was the outdoor patio. We got a room on the first floor. The patio came enclosed with heaters so that you can go out and look out at the lake and not freeze. During Christmas they put a Christmas tree on each patio. Very romantic and festive. Service is, by far, the number one thing about this place. The hotels beauty is obvious, but it only goes so far if the service isn't there. We loved every minute of our stay. The bartender in the evening was the best. We sat there for hours and just chatted. He was very personable, and fun to talk to. We also wanted to use the jacuzzi, so the front desk employee went, and opened it up for us even though it was freezing outside. They also let us stay 20 minutes past the hours of operation without question. There were many more things we didn't do like snow shoeing on the lake, but they offer many things for kids, families, or outdoor enthusiasts. Overall, this was probably one of the best vacations we have had. From the service to Amenities they checked every box. If you are looking for romance, or even a family get away then this place is a must. We also took advantage of the wineries in the area. They are still open in the winter. I wish I would of snapped more photos for all to see, but I was wanted to live in the moment and not technology. This place has won many awards as a top wine hotel in the country. Just make sure you call way in advance for reservations. They book up extremely early. We booked a year in advance.

**Absolutely Horrible Experience -- Beware of the "Dog-Friendly" Claim**…read more This hotel is an absolute joke. I booked this hotel **MONTHS in advance** specifically because I needed a dog-friendly place for myself, my children, and out-of-state guests to stay the night after my wedding. I did my research beforehand and chose this property because it **advertises itself as dog-friendly**. What a joke. My check-in time was **almost 7 PM**. The entire day was already gone, and I was simply arriving for the night after my wedding. I had my 4-pound dog with me, and after spending the day celebrating my wedding, I expected to check into the room I had booked months ago and go to bed. Instead, I informed the front desk that I had my dog with me and was told that if I brought my dog into the room, the **police would be called**. Yes. You read that correctly. At nearly **7 PM**, after I had already spent the entire day elsewhere, I was being threatened with police involvement over a **4-pound dog** at a hotel that advertises itself as dog-friendly. Apparently, according to management, you have to somehow know that you need to call in advance and make a "special reservation" for a dog-friendly room. **That requirement is not clearly disclosed in the way this hotel advertises its pet policy.** In fact, their own website states that if you stay in a non-dog-friendly room with a dog, you can simply pay a **$50 fee**. So which is it? If there is a separate reservation process for "dog-friendly" rooms, then perhaps the hotel should make that crystal clear **before taking someone's reservation and their money**. The entire situation was handled horribly, and the manager and front desk staff were unbelievably rude, condescending, and completely unwilling to find a reasonable solution. There was no attempt to work with me. No reasonable conversation. Just threats and attitude. And the irony is almost laughable: **there were multiple dogs staying at the hotel.** Meanwhile, I'm being threatened with the police over a 4-pound dog after I had just gotten off a boat from a marina **three miles down the road**. And let's talk about the hotel itself. The carpet looks like it is **older than I am**. It is not charming, quaint, or historic -- it is simply old, dingy, and repulsive. Frankly, given the condition of the property, the outrage over my tiny dog was almost comical. This was supposed to be a simple overnight stay after my wedding. I had booked months ahead of time, arrived at nearly 7 PM when the day was already over, and simply wanted to go to my room for the night. Instead, management turned it into an unnecessarily hostile and completely ridiculous experience. **I would strongly recommend that nobody waste their money staying here.** There are plenty of hotels that are actually welcoming to their guests and honest about their policies. This place is neither. The way management handled this situation was completely unacceptable. **I would never give this hotel or its management another dollar of my money, and I strongly suggest you don't either.**

Experiencing A Classic Lifestyle…read more We recently stayed at the Bay View Inn and were pleasantly and wonderfully surprised by our 4-day event and the goodness we experienced. For those who have not become acquainted with Bay View Inn, staying here needs to become a hospitality first experience. Coming to the Bay View Inn was our fifth Petroskey experience. Last year we stayed at the Perry Hotel, so my wife and I have experienced the best of the best that Petoskey offers to vacationers. When comparing the Perry to the Bay View, the Perry offers travelers a moment of mid-late 18th century elegance while the Bay Inn takes you back to the Victorian Age with its degree of formalness. As you begin your Bay View experience one encounters the crispness and freshness of the pure Lake Michigan air. Upon entering the Bay View you are welcomed by Bobbie Jo's "very southern like" greeting or Corie who shows the politeness of a true gentleman. Ask either Bettie Jo or Corie anything about the Petoskey-Bayview area, in effect you end up getting walking tour guide for the next fews days. As for dining at the Bay View, all the menu items are outstanding with great flavor and particular attention to taste. Servers offer the best hospitality. You might also meet the most positive enthusiastic person in the Petoskey - Bayview area when you meet Christopher or the high spirit of Rita who is from Romania or the formalness of Tom as well as Andris who is also from Romania who is always there for you with a coffee refill. The rooms are extremely comfortable, Victorian-like styled rooms. One also has access to their library for borrowing a book or two from the library. Nightly entertainment also includes playing any number of games in the downstairs parlor. At night you sleep in the heavenly comfort of either a King or Queen bed. Daytime can be spent in a variety of ways. One can experience the best shopping district in the Midwest including what might be the best privately owned bookstore in Midwest, McLean & Eakin.... plan on making a few visits. For those who like fitness and touring the uniquely architected homes you must experience walking Lake Street to the top of the hill ... .two times.... or for fitness freaks like my wife and myself.... three times selecting a couple other streets. Your walk will be a more friendly "StairMaster" encounter. For flatlanders there is the multi mile bay walk where fresh air will clean out your lungs. So, instead of thinking about staying at the Bay View Inn, just do it.....staying at the Bay View Inn and experiencing Petoskey one be one of your best lifetime experiences.
