Wow!!!!! We definitely stayed at the right place! This hotel was built back in 1899 and has done a great job at keeping it old school charm. There are only 75 rooms total. It's the only hotel located in the downtown Petoskey area and you can literally walk everywhere. There are two restaurant/bars within the hotel. We enjoyed starting our days at the HO Rose restaurant for breakfast and mimosa. We finished each day at the Noggin located in the basement of the hotel. There are several options for rooms including ones with balconies. The views were amazing and we enjoyed being able to walk down by the water. There is even a "Perry House" that you can rent. I'm sure that is not cheap but looked really great. They did everything right with this hotel. We were treated like royalty and really enjoyed our stay. I would absolutely come back!! We weren't here long enough!! Petoskey is definitely gorgeous and I absolutely will be visiting again this summer. Just a note, there is no refrigerator or microwave in the rooms and the hotel is relatively noisy. It's old so the floors creak. If there is a wedding going on (which there was) the music can be heard on all floors. There were noise machines in the room to help with this but if you're sensitive to that you may want to stay elsewhere. It was so worth it because the experience can't be duplicated! read more

Really quaint and cozy hotel in Petoskey! I felt it was a great deal for the area during a busy holiday weekend since it came with breakfast vouchers and a gift certificate for local shops. The front desk staff was very friendly and informative. The rooms are older, but very cute and functional. We enjoyed breakfast, but on one of the mornings, we had a host who kept saying there was a wait, but then let others walk in when the restaurant was nearly empty. We waited probably an hour for no reason, despite checking in with him multiple times. This was not ideal for our plan to get on the slopes. Other than that, we had an enjoyable stay. read more

We ate at Noggins Pub (Stafford Hotel) and we stayed at Stafford Bayview B&B. July 2024. We enjoyed nearly a week at their B&B and I must say, it was outstanding. If you are looking for a true B&B experience this is it. A few comments: The entire staff was very attentive, polite and professional. The B&B was spotless. I mean spotless! From the moment you parked the car, to the expansive front porch, the guest registration area, common areas, and sitting room on the second floor was very very clean. The dining area you are met by George who is a delight in the morning and the waitstaff does the rest. Again, very attentive, professional, and polite. Food, we mostly ate breakfast and lunch, but our experience was superb. Rooms, everything worked, and again very clean. No complaints. In summary, as Chicago guests that travel frequently I would rate the Stafford Hotel and our B&B (Stafford Bayview Inn) a 5 out of 5. Have loved this place for decades--but stay away from the soaps/lotion. It's overwhelming and not rosemary/cedar/thyme, as lotion label indicates. It's so strong my husband had to re-shower to get it off & not even 2 makeup wipes removed the smell from my hands. Ugh! Very flowery. It might seem like a small thing but it lingers for hours & is miserable. If anyone came to the office smelling like this it would be an HR violation. read more

Overpriced and under-delivered. Expensive for a place Up North. We decided to spend the money based on a glowing recommendation ... At check in, we were told breakfast is until 11 ... it's not: 1030. We found out AFTER we checked out that there is complimentary tea and coffee in the gift shop. Would have been NICE to know; especially since the coffee in the restaurant was AWFUL. The hotel was NOT busy yet the service was ... lacking. I guess they make money on weddings in the summer bc we were left all alone on the porch trying to finish breakfast while the staff got ready for a wedding. The breakfast that was "included" for a $300+/n stay was actually 1/2 of a breakfast and the continental breakfast at the Holiday Inn is better. The location is great but ... everything else was lacking. Recommend : $25 bfast voucher be available for use anywhere on property ... veranda, pub, gift shop, etc. Or ... save that $25 and go get a good breakfast at Roast and Toast down the street. read more

I almost never write online reviews. But this is special as I just had the most extraordinary customer service experience when booking a room and obtaining a gift card for my in-law's anniversary. I felt like everyone thinking of staying here should know about what you get when staying at this hotel. I called the Stafford 800 number on a Sunday afternoon. I reached a gentleman called Rick who was extremely pleasant on the phone and took the time to answer my questions. I needed for a gift card to be available for my in laws within a couple day's time for their stay and he offered to PERSONALLY HAND DELIVER the card to the correct hotel and place a note in their reservation to make sure they received it. I also booked the hotel stay online via the website which was easy and he called me back to assure the charges would be correct for the stay. In this difficult time, I know we are all feeling the pressures of being overworked and it is hard to go above and beyond when we are struggling to get by. However, I feel like this is one of those examples of a hard working genuinely kind individual who one customer at a time lifts a company to elite status. Thank you, Rick. This hotel is certainly ROMANTIC. Deff for all the love birds both young and old and in between. The sunsets from the harbor viewing rooms are spectacular like a setting sun in the Wild Wild West as the cowboy rides his horse into it as seen in the movies. The sunrise is like watching your new born waking up for the very first time in that new house you just got to start your new family. Let's just say, if you came here as a couple you might be leaving with a family is all I'm gonna say. But enough about the room, let's talk food. A quick walk downstairs to the second floor to the left, you'll find yourself about to experience one of the finest breakfast of your life. From what my GF and I had, the Creme Brûlée and Denver Omelet, it was AMAZING with an extra ZING. Now normally my GF would rarely finish a plate of anything, but this time she scarfed her creme brûlée down and licked the plate cleaned. I felt like I was cheated on quite honestly. But at least it was with the creme brûlée because I had some too and it was certainly a morning delight. In conclusion, I give this place the Bobby Seal of approval both to the hotel and restaurant. Not only it was a romantic stay, but a romantic stay for my tummy as well. This historic hotel was lovely, antique rooms made for a nostalgic get away. The location is right downtown for easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. It's about a three minute walk to the walk/bike trail which wraps around the bay and extends to the light house. We had cocktails on their patio area which overlooks the bay undisturbed by traffic. I loved our breakfast on the porch of their Rose Room restaurant. Staff was efficient and helpful. They supplied a small fridge upon request for our room. We stayed on a cooler early summer weekend so air conditioning wasn't a necessity. However there wasn't AC in our room, just heat. This is something I would call ahead of time to confirm when booking in the future. read more

Stay in the winter middle of the week. The room was a classic, very very clean, nice shower also very clean. The staff is friendly and the breakfast was some the best ever but bring your own coffee. Not much favor or strength. Located downtown with a wonderful view of the water it was inviting and there were really interesting antiques in the hotel which added to the charm like the organ at the top of the landing on the fourth floor. I will come back again perhaps when the flowers bloom and there's a breeze off the bay that will capture one's imagination of the spirits and ghosts of times long past who walked the halls and enjoyed their times on this beautiful bay. read more

Comfortable and Quaint with a Great View We came to Petoskey almost specifically to stay at the Perry given neither of us had stayed there before. My first impression was a good one. The staff at check-in, and checkout, was friendly, fast and efficient. The room keys are actual keys, which I loved. The room, while a little on the small side, was very clean. Along with our bayside view (for a little extra $), it was really comfortable and quaint, and had a breathtaking view of the lake with its whitecaps crashing the nearby pier. It also had a wall hung flat screen on a telescoping mount, a small desk/vanity and a balcony with chairs. The hotel is historic and feels a little weathered but not in a bad way. That said, there's a lot of art on the wall and it all seemed to be for sale or just tagged with an index card?! It felt slightly tacky...but what do I know. Don't get me wrong this place was charming but it's also spendy. Even at off-season it was a couple bills a night. I will say that the location is as good as it could get if you're looking to stay downtown, near the water and in walking distance to, well, everything! The only hiccup we ran into was our shower backing up consistently. I'm not sure it was a plumbing issue as much as the grade of the shower floor but regardless it was an annoyance. On that topic though...I had completed the survey emailed to me by the hotel and noted the shower problem. The manager was kind enough to email me back a very nice message apologizing, and also refunded some of the expense of the room. I was impressed with the customer service and the cordiality to say the least. Thank you, Reginald! When we checked-in we were given $25 worth of credit vouchers for breakfast which was a nice touch....but, we slept in both days so no breakfast for us. I've heard good things though! The Noggin Room was fun too...think local pub. We didn't spend a lot of time there but it's nice that it's on the grounds if you want a night cap. All in all it was a nice stay if a little pricey. Would I stay there again?....likely, but I'd search for a deal, I think. read more

Checking in on a Monday was a stroke of luck, as an internet deal & an historically slow hotel day saved us close to $100 on our room. Bonus - the manager was kind enough to even UPGRADE our room at the same price! The Perry Hotel dates to 1899, and was one of many large resort hotels in Petoskey. Billed as "fireproof" due to its brick construction in an era where many wooden hotels burned to the ground, this hotel has gone through several owners, renovations and expansion over the years, but retains much of its original charm, including a large veranda porch and lovely gardens. The views of Little Traverse Bay are BREATHTAKING! Historic photos, daguerreotypes of the hardy people, trains, boats and other 19th Century buildings like the walls throughout. We've frequented the delightful Noggin Room Pub downstairs many times in the past & it remains a favorite with an excellent selection of craft beers and excellent Happy Hour deals as well as live music most nights. It we were totally unprepared for the morning delights of the Rose Dining Room with its gorgeous views of the bay and the scrumptious house-baked cinnamon rolls, plus all their other wonderful offerings. Did I mention that we were also given a $25 voucher toward breakfast? Unreal value for a high end quality hotel with so much to offer. The room decorations are a tad old fashioned, but that adds to the charm. Updated baths with wonderful shower heads included. One of our favorite hotel experiences in many years. Bf and I visited the hotel last week(28 July). As expected, we loved it. We were greeted warmly by staff upon arrival. Now, the room was much smaller than I expected(the bed was sorta Gulliver's Travels-ish). Everything was clean and lovely and the vibe was so great, we excused that. I guess the room/bed size are consistent with the style and theme of the place. It is something I would ask about next time. Previous reviews are accurate. Breakfast on the porch was delicious and super relaxing. While I'm not the hugest fan of the area overall, one can't choose where their partner is from, 'eh? It's no wonder to me that he hightailed it out of Michigan post college and ran for straight for NYC!!! That said, I'd certainly stay at Staffords Perry (or even Bay View) again. We stayed here for a night last summer and the service was great. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and look renovated (this is an older hotel). We were in a room right next to the library so we took a minute to check that out. Library was nicely finished with a table for coffee. Very nice hotel. They give you a voucher for breakfast which we almost didn't use but after walking around a bit, we found ourselves back at the hotel for breakfast. Honestly, best breakfast we could've had. Don't go anywhere else for breakfast - stay right at the Perry hotel. As an appetizer they give you a cinnamon roll pastry type thing. Delicious. Highly reccomend. read more

The room was nice and old fashioned. Recently updated. The sink was slow to drain however, which was annoying. To be fair, I never addressed the issue with staff. The breakfast each morning was excellent and the service was top notch with a great view of the bay. The only reason it is three stars is because the place is WAY overpriced. The convenience of being downtown is nice, however you can get similar service with an equitable room for a quarter of the price each night; and that would include free shuttles to and from downtown to the hotel. They are not servicing the rooms during your stay, due to COVID, so you'd think they'd reduce the amount they charge each night. They are not losing any money due to COVID. All the revenue they lost for conferences and weddings were replaced with full booked reservations each weekend. read more

It is an old building and you can tell - we could hear our upstairs neighbors walking above us at 6 in the morning. We have stayed at the Perry Hotel for more than twenty years. We just recently stayed Sunday August 3, planning to stay two nights over the Labor Day weekend. Upon our arrival at 12:30pm. We were told that our room was not yet ready and we should try back in an hour or so. So we walked outside to have a drink and some lunch at the outdoor bar overlooking Lake Michigan. To our amazement, nothing was open outside and it was a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon on the "Labor Day" weekend. So we went back to the front desk to ask why things were closed... The desk clerk said, "I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard that this weekend". We then asked if we could get some food at the downstairs restaurant The Noggin Room. Desk clerk said that it was closed too! Wow! at least the Perry could have informed peopl ahead of time that the facilities outside would. w closed for the season over Labor Day! They have just lost our business for good! I would have stayed at our beautiful hotel in Traverse City had I known. I guess you take your chances these days with the help situation making it impossible to run a hotel! read more

We had our wedding here and, to say the least, The Perry completed exceeded our expectations in every possible way. Here are some highlights: The service was some of the best I have ever had (in any capacity), the staff were attentive and unbelievably friendly to us and all of our guests. The room was comfortable, updated, clean, and reasonably priced (we even had a top-floor bay-view room). The give you a voucher for $25 of your breakfast per day (anything off the menu, including my bloody Mary's). The wedding/ special event team (Debbie, Angie, Carolyn & co.) were OUTSTANDING. They are on their game every minute and seem to predict what you want before you even know you wanted it. What Pros!! If you are in search of a great place to have a party/ wedding/ special weekend I implore you to try the Perry. With the mix of its charm, location, and 5-star staff you will be counting the days and making any excuse to return, I know I am! read more

Cute, quaint, historical hotel. It's right on the water, so all the bay side rooms have beautiful views (However, if you choose a non bay side room, you can get a pretty good deal!) There's a nice bar and restaurant in the hotel and it's very conveniently located to "downtown" Petoskey. My only complaint is that since it's an older hotel, you can't regulate your own heat (you have to call the front desk to change it). Also, the walls are really thin (so, if you're thinking about bad mouthing your neighbors, you should probably think twice-- or at least go into the bathroom to gossip.) read more

Just stayed here for 2 nights and couldn't say enough of the awesome customer service and beautiful charm. Very convenient to shopping in town and easy access to the main highway 131. You are given 25.00 vouchers (per couple) for breakfast each night of your visit, and the food is delicious. Rooms are comfortable and I especially love that you can open the windows even on the top floor. Great views! Beautifully decorated and the elevators are fast and conveniently located. There is a library room with board games to play and a lot of sitting room inside and on the huge porch outside. I will definitely be coming back here when I return to Petoskey. read more

The Perry is a very quaint, historic hotel in Petoskey. The rooms are a bit small, but well furnished. The breakfast service is among the fastest I've ever had. The order turn times are under 10 minutes, which is impressive for any eatery. The Noggin Room Pub is a dark pub set in the sub level, yet is charming and a lot of fun during live music. My husband and I stayed at The Perry upon a recommendation from a chef at the Palette Bistro (just down the street and an excellent place to eat). We found the staff helpful, the hotel is quaint with many nooks and crannies. The chairs on the large porch we're inviting; our room reminded me of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Breakfast coupons were included with the price of the room. The staff again, was friendly and efficient. The whole meal was fantastic. My husband surprised me with an overnighter in Petoskey for our first anniversary...complete with a stay at the Perry Hotel. We usually just drive up to P-town for the day and cruise back to TC in the evening, but on this night, we got to do it up (i.e. "booze" it up). We started the day at the hotel. Our room was charming, albeit small, but par for the course with an historic hotel. The decor was turn-of-the-century, the bed comfy enough. We had a good night's sleep and would recommend it to friends. A romantic weekend made more so by the Perry Hotel. We've always enjoyed Petoskey, and Staffords Perry Hotel is by far the place to stay if you enjoy shopping and eating like we do. Restaurants abound. Great unique shopping. The Perry isn't quite what it used to be, but still very enjoyable. This place is almost more like an old B&B than a hotel, especially by today's standards. It's old, but EXTREMELY well kept. Very professional staff and a near perfect location. Yes, I miss the old days when I could smoke on the veranda or even on my own balcony or patio. The place was sooo relaxing and quaint and enjoyable. It still is nice. It seemed like the food quality dropped a bit although we only had breakfast there this trip. I think there is a lot more quality competition in town now. I still recommend going. It's a unique experience. read more

We came here for a mini honeymoon after our wedding on 8/20/16. I can not say enough amazing things about The Perry Hotel and their staff. It was hands down the best service we have ever had! Everybody working there would congratulate us throughout our stay which was very sweet. They also upgraded our room and gave us breakfast vouchers (for an exceptional breakfast). The rooms and facilities were beautiful and they have a very fun pub to go to at night. We cannot wait to go back! As part of a bicycle tour of Northern Michigan, I had booked a group of rooms for women cyclist from all over the country. These women expect and enjoy being treated well. The staff at Stafford's Perry Hotel exceeded all expectations. We stayed two nights in Petoskey as part of the Michigander Bike Ride and the hotel secured our 12 bicycles in a safe place when we were not on them. They happily handled our luggage when it was delivered to the hotel and there it was in our rooms when we arrived! What a pleasure! When our luggage porter arrived to retrieve our luggage, the staff jumped right in without hesitation to provide support and assistance. The breakfast that is included in the room rate is not your standard "hotel breakfast fare". The voucher acquires a "cooked to order" breakfast in a lovely dining room. The staff was attentive and courteous. The oatmeal with fruit and the requested side of peanut butter was better than I make at home (and I happen to think mine is great). The cherry jam was worth writing home about! Our coffee cups were always full and any requests immediately filled. I saw the review that described the hotel as "outdated". I would vehemently disagree. The hotel is decorated and designed to generate the feeling of "another era". It is stunning and beautifully appointed. There are classic antique pieces placed tastefully within the building. I loved it! The women in my group unanimously praised their hotel experience. And I, as the person who booked the block of rooms, felt like a genius for making such a wise hotel choice! The veranda provides an unobstructed sunset view over Little Traverse Bay. Breath-taking! My friend saw the "green flash" at sunset. What the?!? I was not out there that evening and missed it. I LOVED Stafford's Perry and the courteous staff. Went to just have a drink at the bar here and they also had an event at that time (wedding) and the bartender accused us of trying to scam a free drink at the bar when we're there with our credit card just trying to buy a glass of wine. So we went to the hotel manager and he tells us they are not open to the public. And we say where's the signs... Wells there's no signs and the manager just tells us to not go there. Ok. We're not ever going there again.... hope this one wedding made you enough money to close the whole place and ignore your customers. Bullshit... so embarrassing!!! read more

We really enjoyed our stay here...came here for a wedding and the grounds were beautiful. Hotel was super quaint...you could see the bay from some of the bedrooms. Our room sort of had a b&b charm to it even though the hotel itself was fairly sizable. With our room booking, we also got a $25 voucher for breakfast which I didn't end up using but my bf did and really enjoyed. Only thing is the bed was uber uber soft and our bathroom faucet didn't seem to get hot water. Shower could have been a bit larger also. I guess if you are visiting the cute town of Petoskey, you prob. aren't hanging out in your room all that much anyways! read more
