It's an easy walk to several nice restaurants, and about a 10 minute walk to Shepplers Mackinac Island ferry service. Access to/from I-75 is just a minute or two away, but this is far enough from the expressway you can't hear much traffic. The rooms have nice TVs, refrigerators (larger than most places) and microwaves. The people here are very friendly. We will certainly make this our go-to place when visiting Mackinaw City in the future. Thank you.

Experiencing A Classic Lifestyle…read more We recently stayed at the Bay View Inn and were pleasantly and wonderfully surprised by our 4-day event and the goodness we experienced. For those who have not become acquainted with Bay View Inn, staying here needs to become a hospitality first experience. Coming to the Bay View Inn was our fifth Petroskey experience. Last year we stayed at the Perry Hotel, so my wife and I have experienced the best of the best that Petoskey offers to vacationers. When comparing the Perry to the Bay View, the Perry offers travelers a moment of mid-late 18th century elegance while the Bay Inn takes you back to the Victorian Age with its degree of formalness. As you begin your Bay View experience one encounters the crispness and freshness of the pure Lake Michigan air. Upon entering the Bay View you are welcomed by Bobbie Jo's "very southern like" greeting or Corie who shows the politeness of a true gentleman. Ask either Bettie Jo or Corie anything about the Petoskey-Bayview area, in effect you end up getting walking tour guide for the next fews days. As for dining at the Bay View, all the menu items are outstanding with great flavor and particular attention to taste. Servers offer the best hospitality. You might also meet the most positive enthusiastic person in the Petoskey - Bayview area when you meet Christopher or the high spirit of Rita who is from Romania or the formalness of Tom as well as Andris who is also from Romania who is always there for you with a coffee refill. The rooms are extremely comfortable, Victorian-like styled rooms. One also has access to their library for borrowing a book or two from the library. Nightly entertainment also includes playing any number of games in the downstairs parlor. At night you sleep in the heavenly comfort of either a King or Queen bed. Daytime can be spent in a variety of ways. One can experience the best shopping district in the Midwest including what might be the best privately owned bookstore in Midwest, McLean & Eakin.... plan on making a few visits. For those who like fitness and touring the uniquely architected homes you must experience walking Lake Street to the top of the hill ... .two times.... or for fitness freaks like my wife and myself.... three times selecting a couple other streets. Your walk will be a more friendly "StairMaster" encounter. For flatlanders there is the multi mile bay walk where fresh air will clean out your lungs. So, instead of thinking about staying at the Bay View Inn, just do it.....staying at the Bay View Inn and experiencing Petoskey one be one of your best lifetime experiences.

It's off the beaten path, but close enough to the shops in town and it's an easy walk to many places to eat as well. It's not a big place and it's not a big well known company either. It's a nice family owned business. There were pros and cons to our room so I'll be sure to cover everything. First off, the room was very clean and that comes from someone who is a neat freak. Housekeeping was fantastic. The bathroom could have been more user friendly. Although it was nicely updated, there was no room to set toiletries because it had a pedestal sink which looked very nice, but when you're traveling, you have 'stuff' that needs to set out. The odd thing was there was no toilet paper holder and because it had the pedestal sink, there was no room to set the roll. We either had to set it behind us on the tank lid which was an awkward reach or put it on the shower 'step in'. It was kind of maddening but maybe they weren't done updating or maybe someone forgot to reinstall the holder after the update. Now on to the shower.... it was beautifully tiled with a very nice and newer looking shower head. I loved it. The downside was that the shower didn't have any type of shelf or area to put shampoo, conditioner, soap etc except for the safety railing. So... we had to balance the bottles, razor and bar of soap on the railing. That was a fun daily game of balancing everything. The towels and wash cloths were thick, soft and clean and there was plenty of bar soap and shampoo that was replenished daily. The light and overhead fan were connected rather than separate so when you turned on the light, the fan went on as well. The toilet looked fairly new and it was the newer type that had the water saving flush. All in all the bathroom was pretty nice. If they could add a toilet paper holder and maybe a shelf for the shower to set the bottles, bar soap and anything else on and maybe a shelf for toiletries and accessories next to the sink, the bathroom would be perfect. For the main living area, it was your standard motel room with a smaller size TV, a small fridge with a freezer, a small Keurig type coffee maker with two coffee pods a day and an ice bucket. There were 2 drawers on the dresser and one of them was where I had to put my cosmetics and toiletries when getting ready each morning due to the bathroom having no room for anything. There was also a small rack above the dresser for hanging a few clothes The two beds were full size. Needless to say, I was happy to come back home to the queen size we're used to. They had a variety of pillow to choose from based on your sleeping preferences. The bed overall was a bit too soft for my liking but for 4 nights, the full size, softer bed was fine. The comforters looked clean and fairly new and updated. There was an outlet next to the beds to plug in charging cables, and the bedside table had a wireless charger that we were able to just set our phones on to charge so that was nice. The outlet did have a couple of ports too, but unfortunately they weren't working. There's a heated pool, but we didn't use it so I can't say anything about it except that it had a nice sitting area and people seemed to enjoy swimming in it. The best part about staying here is the awesome view of the Mackinac Bridge. Pretty much every room here has a great view. We were closer to the end, which is closer to the water, which is closest to the bridge and we were on the 2nd floor. I'm glad we were up a level because the morning and evening views of the bridge were beautiful from the 2nd floor. You do have to walk upstairs because there's no elevator so if you have difficulty with climbing stairs, the lower level is where you want to be. The sunrises from the balcony were fantastic, beautiful and picturesque. There is a small beach, a walkway and benches for sitting as well. There's also a grassy area with picnic tables right outside the motel. So....there you have it! A pretty nice place with absolutely fantastic views of the bridge along with lovely morning sunrises and close to the bustling town where there are plenty of shops and places to eat. If you decide to stay here, I hope you enjoy your stay just as we did.

The beds are on the firm side, the shower was hot but lacked water pressure, and they give you an actual key, vs a card. I did enjoy that outside each room are 2 white plastic patio chairs that were clean and a nice spot to sit for a bit in the evening. The next morning checkout was simple (leave the key on the table), and we walked across the parking lot to the Wild Blueberry to grab some treats for the road. Although it doesn't have the luxury of a Holiday Inn, etc. it was the absolute definition of "eh, not bad." Reasonably priced, clean (an imperative), and convenient.

We contacted the booking site by email to cancel the Wednesday reservations 72 hours in advance to comply with the restrictions. It should be noted that there was no change option. However, on a Sunday afternoon, we received no response. It's 9/29, too late for summer, and too early for real fall color. As we were driving through town, every single motel/hotel had vacancy signs and empty parking lots. The person staffing the desk at the motel was just a temp and asked us to wait for the regular person. I stepped across the parking lot to get a blueberry donut at The Wild Blueberry. Ten minutes later, I returned to the motel door to stand and eat my donut. A woman breezed past me and asked, "You don't want a room, do you?" I kid you not!!!! At that point, I could tell we were not going to have a good experience. Sure enough, she proceeded to argue forcibly with my man about cancellation restrictions and that the rate instead of being $78 a night was now $99 a night. My man said he didn't want to cancel but simply change our reservations receiving the previously booked rate. She started talking loudly over him. He said, "It sounds like you don't want to help us." She responded that she thought we should stay elsewhere. We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express who welcomed our business!
