We had came across Waterway Inn which also had mobile homes. We decided it was a better idea with all of us to stop and see if they had availability and they did (around 11:30pm) , the co owner showed us where the mobile home was went in before us and turned on the lights in the mobile home also turned on the heat... I thought was a little strange.. We had settled in, I was looking for an extra blanket. I opened the drawers in the first bedroom, the bottom drawer had what I thought was a bedbug. I called my husband over to check. It was a cockroach. Needless to say we threw all of our clothes into the back of our truck to wash at a later time. My husband went in and showed the imagine, the guy said it was a "JuneBug"..... we are supposed to receive a refund. I attached the photo. We realized he went in before us to more than likely to scatter the cockroaches.... Also my daughter is allergic to certain breeds of dogs. So we preferred not to have a dog room. But owner said due to insurance reasons.

The whole place was very clean. The bed was pretty uncomfortable, but we're used to sleeping on a memory foam mattress at home. Our son slept on the pull out bed and was comfortable, but cold as it only had a lightweight waffle blanket. We loved that it was an end unit so we had side view windows and great natural light. The lighting at night in the unit wasn't that great even with all of the switches on. The bathroom has seen better days as it looked like there has been water damage to the floor, wall, and ceiling. Front desk staff were nice and helpful. We would definitely stay again, but might choose a different unit.

We had read that the breakfast was lackluster but honestly, it was more than I'd expect at a motel. They don't have a central dining area like hotels do, so the bagel and pastries, the waffles, the yogurt, and the coffee and juice (we didn't have any instant oatmeal, but it was available) hit the spot to fuel us for the next day's ride. We just completed our stay at Crooked Tree Cabins after a quick Memorial Day weekend. What a…read morespecial little secret in northern Michigan! We stayed in the Hemingway cabin and absolutely loved our experience! The cabins have a wonderful, early/mid 20th century rustic appeal and each one is a little different. All the cooking utensils we needed were there, including pots and pans, and the galley sized kitchen was perfect for two people and a dog. The cabin felt private and was truly a special place we can't wait to return to! Any negative reviews I'm reading are most likely picky people with unrealistic expectations about most experiences. These are fairly rustic cabins, with hot running water, heat, and cable TV. If you aren't satisfied with Crooked Tree, you likely expect way too much from this type of mom and pop lakeside resort. If you want a hotel, stay at a hotel, if you want a rustic "roughing it" experience without sleeping on the ground or in a camper, this is the place! Cable TV was nice, but we watched very little considering our beautiful view of Paradise Lake from our cabin. We definitely utilized the free row boat for fishing and the hearty supply of firewood in the evenings. Speaking of which, the night sky was absolutely incredible and perfect for star gazing. The host, Rene, was so incredibly sweet, helpful, and made us feel very welcome. She helped us with any questions we had, and was very responsive. The best part was that we were a short drive to Wilderness State Park or Mackinac City, or virtually anywhere else you'd want to go in that part of the state. We definitely plan on staying again and can't wait to get back!
