It's off the beaten path, but close enough to the shops in town and it's an easy walk to many places to eat as well. It's not a big place and it's not a big well known company either. It's a nice family owned business. There were pros and cons to our room so I'll be sure to cover everything. First off, the room was very clean and that comes from someone who is a neat freak. Housekeeping was fantastic. The bathroom could have been more user friendly. Although it was nicely updated, there was no room to set toiletries because it had a pedestal sink which looked very nice, but when you're traveling, you have 'stuff' that needs to set out. The odd thing was there was no toilet paper holder and because it had the pedestal sink, there was no room to set the roll. We either had to set it behind us on the tank lid which was an awkward reach or put it on the shower 'step in'. It was kind of maddening but maybe they weren't done updating or maybe someone forgot to reinstall the holder after the update. Now on to the shower.... it was beautifully tiled with a very nice and newer looking shower head. I loved it. The downside was that the shower didn't have any type of shelf or area to put shampoo, conditioner, soap etc except for the safety railing. So... we had to balance the bottles, razor and bar of soap on the railing. That was a fun daily game of balancing everything. The towels and wash cloths were thick, soft and clean and there was plenty of bar soap and shampoo that was replenished daily. The light and overhead fan were connected rather than separate so when you turned on the light, the fan went on as well. The toilet looked fairly new and it was the newer type that had the water saving flush. All in all the bathroom was pretty nice. If they could add a toilet paper holder and maybe a shelf for the shower to set the bottles, bar soap and anything else on and maybe a shelf for toiletries and accessories next to the sink, the bathroom would be perfect. For the main living area, it was your standard motel room with a smaller size TV, a small fridge with a freezer, a small Keurig type coffee maker with two coffee pods a day and an ice bucket. There were 2 drawers on the dresser and one of them was where I had to put my cosmetics and toiletries when getting ready each morning due to the bathroom having no room for anything. There was also a small rack above the dresser for hanging a few clothes The two beds were full size. Needless to say, I was happy to come back home to the queen size we're used to. They had a variety of pillow to choose from based on your sleeping preferences. The bed overall was a bit too soft for my liking but for 4 nights, the full size, softer bed was fine. The comforters looked clean and fairly new and updated. There was an outlet next to the beds to plug in charging cables, and the bedside table had a wireless charger that we were able to just set our phones on to charge so that was nice. The outlet did have a couple of ports too, but unfortunately they weren't working. There's a heated pool, but we didn't use it so I can't say anything about it except that it had a nice sitting area and people seemed to enjoy swimming in it. The best part about staying here is the awesome view of the Mackinac Bridge. Pretty much every room here has a great view. We were closer to the end, which is closer to the water, which is closest to the bridge and we were on the 2nd floor. I'm glad we were up a level because the morning and evening views of the bridge were beautiful from the 2nd floor. You do have to walk upstairs because there's no elevator so if you have difficulty with climbing stairs, the lower level is where you want to be. The sunrises from the balcony were fantastic, beautiful and picturesque. There is a small beach, a walkway and benches for sitting as well. There's also a grassy area with picnic tables right outside the motel. So....there you have it! A pretty nice place with absolutely fantastic views of the bridge along with lovely morning sunrises and close to the bustling town where there are plenty of shops and places to eat. If you decide to stay here, I hope you enjoy your stay just as we did.

We enjoyed our stay at the Island House Hotel - one of the oldest hotels on the island. They built…read morethe center part of the hotel first before expanding which was made apparent by the multitude of stairways zigzagging through the building. Note: I believe the elevator only goes up to the third floor and then you'll have to take the stairs from there. Our bedroom had a nice view of the hotel, porch/patio area, the turret housing the 1852 Island Grill, the main street, and Lake Huron. Thank goodness the A/C worked just fine as we were on the top floor. My only concerns would be the slanted roof top which made it difficult to get in and out of the bed without hitting my head and the bath tub which could get slippery and had no grab bar. Amenities included a swimming pool, hot tub, firepit area to roast s'mores (s'mores kit not included, but sold in hotel store), a front porch with rocking chairs with views, bike rentals, and two restaurants. The hotel is within walking distance of Fort Mackinac and the downtown area, but a good distance away from all the hubbub that made for a relaxing and quiet stay.

BEWARE THE FOURTH FLOOR…read more The 1852 Grill Room was wonderful, the hotel is beautiful from the outside, the staff is fine - but the pictures they post of the bedrooms are NOT the bedrooms you will be staying in, especially on the fourth floor. I knew the room would be small but the pictures of my room were incredibly misleading and most importantly NOT the room me and my wife saw. The bathroom in the online photos had a glass door shower, our room had a dinky plastic liner. THE ROOF IS CONCRETE POPCORN AND VIOLENTLY SLANTED DIRECTLY ABOVE THE SLEEPING BED. It was physically difficult to get in and out of the bed, forcing any adult person (I'm only 5'7") to squat and crawl in and out of the bed. If I sat up in the middle of the night, I would literally would have been hospitalized from this idiotic ceiling/bed placement. Pics to prove it. Overall, our trip to Mackinac Island was wonderful but this hotel room was the worst part of it and the worst $800+ I have ever spent.

We had sausage, cheesy potatoes, fresh fruit and a cinnamon roll. It was wonderful. Seating is between 8-9:30am. A self-serve coffee/tea bar is available 24/7. As an added bonus, they serve dessert from 7-8pm nightly. We got to enjoy that one night as well. Dessert was a chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and caramel. Omg, it was so good. We really should have spilt one as they were huge. The place was in a great location. It was a short walk to the Mackinac Island ferry. We walked to a dinner spot. All the shops were only a short walk away. We got there early (before our room was ready) and they allowed us to park in their lot so we didn't have to pay for parking in the ferry lot. Finally, the staff was absolutely wonderful. So helpful. So welcoming. Whatever you needed, they were there for you. The place is spotless. The food is amazing. So glad we stayed.

From our hotel room, we could see people walking and biking around the streets, we could hear the clip-clop of the horse hooves on the cobblestones, we could smell the fudge from all of the fudge stores nearby. Chippewa Hotel is located in downtown Mackinac, and you can really get a feel for the island from this hotel. We visited around Halloween, and the hotel was decked out in decorations. It was very cute, and I feel like they might have gone all out because we were there the weekend before the island shuts down to tourists, so they really put their foot in it, so to speak. The hotel itself is very clean and tidy, but it's "vintage," meaning that some of the fixtures and furniture look like they're straight out of the early 1980s. But it all looks intentional. Everything in the hotel is purposefully placed, so you get an antique vibe but without a touch of disarray. One of the things that I appreciated about the rooms here is that the windows open! I love a hotel room that can receive fresh air. Another thing that I love: They service your room without you even having to ask! And they arrange any stuffed animals on the bed just so. Plus, they offer turn-down serve complimentary! You get a little chocolate on your pillow. They go the extra mile here. Outside, they have a gigantic heated hot tub. This thing is like a small pool! It's open all season. My hot-tub-loving youngest child requested that we visit the hot tub multiple times per day. Chippewa Hotel is attached to The Pink Pony, a bar and restaurant. When we arrived in the evening, the inside fireplace and outside fire pit were both burning. Sitting by the fire outside was so peaceful, keeping warm and looking at the stars while enjoying complimentary beverages- they always have tables in the lobby stocked with water, iced tea, coffee, and hot water for tea or cocoa. Our room was nice, nothing crazy luxurious but spacious and well appointed. The king bed was comfy and the shower pressure was better than at home! My dog loved the little patio space looking out onto the back lawn. I saw reviews talking up the breakfast- it was fine, good to great if you managed your expectations. There were 2 hot food options and the rest was a regular continental breakfast spread, albeit lots of options. Like one morning they had a French toast bake and scrambled eggs. But it's not a made to order diner or omlette bar or something. Still good and plenty filling for us so I'm not casting this as a negative at all. The grounds are nice as well but the nature trail was a bit muddy- but it was early May after some rain! We'd love to come back, as a weekend wasn't enough time to explore all the places nearby that we wanted. No longer serves a protein (no eggs or meat, no breakfast sandwich) with the so called hot breakfast so we should have paid the extra for a hotel that does and saved our thirty dollar a day breakfast cost. They do have kayaks for use but no canoes.
