The bathtub did not have a mat so it was very slippery. No bars to hold onto either. Also there was no hairdryer in the bathroom.

Overall, a fine hotel but we had issues with one specific employee. We found ourselves stranded for a couple of hours after we got into an accident on our way to the UP. Our tow truck driver brought us to this hotel and we checked in with the intention of only staying long enough to figure out what we needed to do to get home. The cost was a little high for what it was but given that we needed a room extremely last minute we weren't bothered. Check in went smoothly and the man working at the counter was overall pretty friendly. The room was clean and had everything we needed. They had an indoor pool, playground, etc. which were nice. Our problem occurred when we went to check out. We had checked in at 7 am Saturday morning and had the room Sunday morning. We went to the desk to check out around 2 pm on Saturday (remember, we only needed the room to figure out our plans on getting home). When we approached the desk and told the woman at the desk that we were going to check out she instantly huffed and puffed, rolled her eyes at us and told us that we should have checked out hours ago. We explained that we actually had the room until Sunday morning and we were checking out early and she continued to huff and puff, slam the keys as she was typing and tell us that now the housekeepers have missed two rooms for the day and the guy in the morning should have left a note. First of all, the housekeepers didn't miss cleaning our room because we technically would have been there until noon the next day if we hadn't checked out early. You aren't missing out on anything by us leaving early. We paid the full cost of the day we were there, the housekeepers could clean the next day (which is what would have happened if we had left on at our actual checkout time). Second of all, whether your coworker left a note is not our problem. We felt completely disrespected. We had just been in a pretty traumatic accident and now we were being scolded by the front desk woman for leaving early. In conclusion as long as this woman isn't working you'll probably have a pretty okay experience. read more

This is the worst hotel that my husband and I have ever stayed at. When we checked in and got to our room, we found that the room was dirty, the lock to the bathroom door was on the outside of the handle, and our bedroom door leading to the main hallway wouldn't lock. We informed the front desk of this, and they gave us a new room. The new room, aside from a door that actually locked, was worse than the first. The bathtub had clearly not been cleaned, the towels had yellow stains on them, and the chair in the room was broken. Our friends in the room across from ours had hair in their sink, and the window into their room looked as though someone had tried to break into it. Since we checked in late and we couldn't find any other hotels with open rooms nearby, we decided to stay there over night. All of us felt extremely unsafe and uncomfortable. The next morning, we decided to check out and find a different place to stay. We went and talked with the front desk and asked for our money back for the next 5 nights that we originally planned to stay. The man working said his manager wasn't there and that he wouldn't be in until noon, so we decided to wait. The manager never showed up. We complained, and the man working called someone who he said was the owner. He handed my friend the phone, and the owner simply told my friend that he was unable to refund us since we booked through Hotels.com. We would have to go through them to get the refund. We stayed inside the hotel while we called hotels.com about the refund. Hotels.com attempted to contact Hometown Inn, but nobody answered their phone calls. Hotels.com informed us that they would have to send an email to them instead, so we'd have to wait up to 48 hours for their reply. We decided to leave since we wouldn't hear anything back until at least the next day. When the next day came, hotels.com informed us that the Hometown Inn denied our request for a refund, even though the owner told us that Hotels.com was responsible for that decision. Every single time we or Hotels.com has attempted to contact Hometown Inn since then, there is conveniently no manager there. The Hometown Inn gave us a receipt that showed a negative balance since we checked out early, but are refusing to refund us for the nights we didn't use. This has been an extremely frustrating experiences. We paid a lot of money to only stay one night at a very unclean and unsafe hotel. I absolutely will never recommend that anyone stay here. read more

Horrible and unethical behavior. Made a reservation for a 3 room suite, Monday through the following Sunday. Plan was to stay there Mon/Tues, spend Wednesday night with friends, then I had 3 others coming from out of town for Thurs-Sunday. Signed a credit card receipt for the entire amount. The three came and showed up on Thursday and were locked out. Apparently because the beds were not slept in, they sold the room out from under me. Was a heavy travel weekend, so there were no rooms within 50 miles. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Our room was very clean. We decided to stay here after we had a bad experience at a motel that looked like we would have our car robbed. Pretty sure we would have been made into skin lamps too. The room was so cozy and clean!! Huge closet space and big beds. Nice bathroom and I even liked the smell of the little shampoo and lotion. For two beds, it was only $90 on a Thurs with a senior discount(my mom). Maybe about $109 before discount. My only complaint was the water. We both had like warm showers at about 9pm. The maids were really friendly, always greeting us. The front desk was also very nice and greeted us in the morning when we went to breakfast. Breakfast had egg patties, sausage patties, bagels, waffles, hard boiled eggs, danishes, fruit. We were pretty happy! read more

My family recently stayed here for 4 nights. The poolswas great for the kids and the continental breakfast was nice. It also has a nice location (right off off I 75 and close to everything). But there were problems. 1st and most importantly, my wife and daughter got absolutely attacked by bugs. Both are covered in bites. I can't say it was bed bugs. I didn't see any and I thoroughly inspected our luggage and personal belongings. But we had ants in our room. The rooms were not very clean. Upon arrival I had to go and purchase cleaning supplies (wipes, surface cleaner, & disinfectant) so that I felt comfortable. My parents' room reeked of ammonia and urine. The housekeeping staff was subpar and did not even vacuum the rooms. I even grabbed a vacuum cleaner from the housekeeper to do our room. The staff was friendly, but not very motivated or concerned with poor conditions. I won't stay here again. read more

Oh gosh! First, this place was the only place that had a room available same day. Second, I wouldn't stay here again. The whole place smelt old, the staff was unhelpful, the sheets were dirty, the under part of the toilet seat had urine and pubes stuck all over, and this exciting experience only cost us $150!! This is hotel is not easy to find and located a tad bit off of the main thoroughfares so it's easy to pass up if you're not really looking for it aside from it's location near the Interstate highway. We were hard pressed to find a place to stay on July 4th weekend but only about a half hour or so south of tourist packed Mackinaw City it certainly was a nice respite from the crowds. A small sign on the front door said they had no vacancy but I always ask anyway and sure enough there were a couple of rooms. It was an affordable rate for that weekend and they also took my AAA card for a discount. I'd equate Hometown Inn as either a 2 or 3 star hotel ( please don't chastise me -- I'm not up to speed on hotel star ratings! ). It's comparable to a Hampton Inn in decor and comfort however I'd stay here again over one of those equivalent hotel chains. The service was very pleasant, the parking lot is very well lit and the pool / hot tub area was extremely clean ... although they were either out of pool towels or it just wasn't very clear on where they were located. Continental breakfast is included although we woke up too late so I didn't have a chance to sample the food. What's nice is that the property is nestled in a large, tree-lined isolated field which means there's hardly any traffic and less ambient noise to wake you up in the middle of the night. I did forget some articles of clothing after leaving and they were kind enough to contact me and arrange for them to be returned via mail. "Hometown" is certainly an appropriate title for this place and although Indian River is no Mackinaw City it's worth the stop if you need a place to stay while passing through. read more

This place is amazing. We got a room with a jacuzzi for less than $85. The hotel was clean, very clean. Our room was very nice, everything was in place and well taken care of. The pool area/hot tub area is nice. This is right off the highway and easy to find. I would stay here anytime I'm in town. read more

Good accommodations clean with friendly staff. Priced a little high for a mom & pop hotel but very comfortable

The only room left for reserving was a king size with whirlpool bath. The room had an unpleasant odor sort of like the carpet was mildewed. Oh, and the king sized mattress was long overdue for replacement. As others have mentioned, the continental breakfast was totally without any fruit. Next time I'll stay in Gaylord, more choices. read more

Staff was very friendly, our room was very clean but the sheets were horribly rough. Breakfast was not good, hard boiled eggs or biscuits and gravy, and he typical cereals and breads. I would go back if I was in the area again but just would plan on eating elsewhere (and brining my own sheets!). Was a good value. read more
