My sister-in-law, Joyce Hill, came to our home directly from Kaiser Permanente. She was diagnosed with stage-4 Breast Cancer. No medical treatment could help her. Comfort care was all that was required. Although Joyce was under hospice care, we needed help bathing her until the hospice staff could send bathing assistance. We called Colonial Home Care. They sent the sweetest angel to our home to help. Daisy bathed, changed clothes and bedding so that Joyce would be as comfortable as possible. I couldn't do it myself. Joyce was beginning to sink into unconciousness and could no longer help me move her. Daisy did the job with expertise that alleviated adding stress to my sister-in-law's discomfort. I'm so grateful. In fact, Daisy was such a welcome assistant I asked her to return the following Monday. Before I could schedule the appointment my sister-in-law quickly sunk into death's grip. There aren't many listings for this type of service on Yelp - and the services on Yelp don't have many reviews. Many other sites that have reviews are referral sites or services and aren't independent. Makes it tough get reliable info when you really need 5 star Home Care Services - and it's not like you just say "well, won't go back there - will move on in my bookmarks! This service provides in home caregiving on an hourly or live in basis. My mom had a stroke 4 years ago and I made the decision that a nursing center and other assisted living facilities weren't the right placement for her - I wanted her to stay in her own home for a variety of reasons. The services are not cheap - and often not covered by insurance - unless you have a long term care policy - Some people hire Caregivers independently - this will save you some money in the short run, but in the long run it's a very bad idea. Much better to go with a service - Let them do the hiring, firing, background checks, payroll, taxes, work mans comp and other insurance - as well as deal with sick days, substitutes and schedule changes. This is the second service I have used - the first one went out of business - and Colonial picked up the ball for clients of our former service. I am glad they did - they are a huge upgrade! Caregivers come and go for a variety of reasons - it's a variable that can't be controlled - the longest we've had was over a year. I am very happy with the caregivers i have at this time, and my impression is that the quality of caregivers from Colonial are more professional and higher quality then my previous service. Caregivers are "feel" type of thing - you need one that works in terms of personality, etc. - finding the "right" people for my mom's needs is sometimes a challenge. Mostly what you are looking for in a service is just that - service - I have found Colonial to be 5 star in every area - Every person I have dealt with has been great- starting at the top with the Owner/President Trevor, their Client Services Manager & Personnel Supervisor Nancy, Field Care supervisor Chrissy on down to our caregivers and their occasional substitutes. These people not only provide great service - they provide caring, understanding service which is much appreciated in these type of circumstances. Colonial has earned many certifications and awards - You can also feel good about supporting a family owned business that's been around over 20 years. I was placed in a difficult situation last year. I was serving as a power of attorney for the first time and needed to get quality home care for an ailing friend. I asked several of my friends who work in a variety of senior services for recommendations for home care. All led me to Colonial. To me there are the "Rules of P" that define quality. This service has then all. Professionalism, Personality, Punctuality, Pride of Work/Service, Perseverence and Patience. You were there immediately when time was of the utmost importance, and brought some sanity to a difficult situation. Your caregiver extraordinaire, Elizabeth, is wonderful! She unobtrusively helped my father acclimate to his drastically new and unfamiliar surroundings in assisted living, and gives him a sense of independence when she drives him to his appointments and shopping trips. Not only it is a relief to my sister and me to know he is in good hands, but my father has quickly become accustomed to having her around, and misses her when she is not there.
