Many other sites that have reviews are referral sites or services and aren't independent. Makes it tough get reliable info when you really need 5 star Home Care Services - and it's not like you just say "well, won't go back there - will move on in my bookmarks! This service provides in home caregiving on an hourly or live in basis. My mom had a stroke 4 years ago and I made the decision that a nursing center and other assisted living facilities weren't the right placement for her - I wanted her to stay in her own home for a variety of reasons. The services are not cheap - and often not covered by insurance - unless you have a long term care policy - Some people hire Caregivers independently - this will save you some money in the short run, but in the long run it's a very bad idea. Much better to go with a service - Let them do the hiring, firing, background checks, payroll, taxes, work mans comp and other insurance - as well as deal with sick days, substitutes and schedule changes. This is the second service I have used - the first one went out of business - and Colonial picked up the ball for clients of our former service. I am glad they did - they are a huge upgrade! Caregivers come and go for a variety of reasons - it's a variable that can't be controlled - the longest we've had was over a year. I am very happy with the caregivers i have at this time, and my impression is that the quality of caregivers from Colonial are more professional and higher quality then my previous service. Caregivers are "feel" type of thing - you need one that works in terms of personality, etc. - finding the "right" people for my mom's needs is sometimes a challenge. Mostly what you are looking for in a service is just that - service - I have found Colonial to be 5 star in every area - Every person I have dealt with has been great- starting at the top with the Owner/President Trevor, their Client Services Manager & Personnel Supervisor Nancy, Field Care supervisor Chrissy on down to our caregivers and their occasional substitutes. These people not only provide great service - they provide caring, understanding service which is much appreciated in these type of circumstances. Colonial has earned many certifications and awards - You can also feel good about supporting a family owned business that's been around over 20 years. Instead of compassion or accountability, we were met with "we will call you back" and excuses. They never called back. We spent hours calling, emailing, and questioning charges that never should have existed in the first place. The stress and anxiety this caused our family was overwhelming. No one should have to fight this hard just to understand why their money is being taken. This company markets trust, care, and integrity--but when it came to finances, we felt taken advantage of at one of the most vulnerable moments of our lives. Maria gave me a good overview of the services and options they provide over the phone so we scheduled a home visit with my mom. The visit went great, and my mom felt very comfortable with Maria and her staff. The paperwork was easy to process and we were all set. Caregivers were on time and quickly established a good rapport with my mom. They helped with all her essential needs like bathing and meal prep, but they also did other tasks like light cleaning, driving her to physical therapy appointments, and just visiting with her. As my mom recovered over the following weeks, we were able to scale back the caregiver hours to just what was needed until eventually, mom was independent and on her own again. Maria is easy to communicate and coordinate with and provides an excellent service for people like my mom. In the end, they were really a key part of her recovery.
