Everything was so awesome, it's hard to know where to start. But here we go: Took both daughters & the g'kids (15, 13 & 12) for a fun family time while visiting Williamsburg. Tip for finding it: the business park it's in has lots of buildings that look alike. The sign they put out front is quite small. We were the only ones there besides our host, Maya. She was so friendly & welcoming, such a pleasure to meet her. We got started right away in Blackbeard's Cabin, said to be the hardest room. Well, I'll tell you it IS tough! We found lots (and lots and lots) of clues but at the halfway mark had to start asking for hints. What to do when you've found 20 or 30 bits that lead to a solution, but can't figure out how to assemble them? Why, talk like a pirate, of course. With ample hints, we actually solved it with 8 minutes to spare. Many laughs and head scratches, "hmmm"s and "Oh wait, wait!" but in the end we triumphed. DGD the Younger and I don't like jump scares, so I don't know that we would ever try the Chesapeake Bay Butcher room, but I would love to try Cyberpunkd the next time we come to Williamsburg. read more

We did a couple of the rooms here and we loved it. Particularly we all LOVED the Chesapeake Bay Butcher room. If there was ever one escape room I wish I could do again for the first time it would be that one. The puzzles were fun and imaginative and honestly kinda scary and thrilling. We did another one about treasure after that one because we loved it so much and none of us enjoyed this one quite as much. The team was very helpful in guiding us during the times we were stuck. My hubby & I attempted to have our kids do the Cheesapeak Butcher room with us today. They are 9 & 11 and are typically not afraid of much. Well, we were forewarned that this room is scary. Lol. I thought they could handle it... I was wrong. . both of my kids were freaking out so much that they were going to go back to the waiting room with my phone and the awesome worker who was running our room in the back invited them to go watch us finish so that they wouldn't be scared anymore. My hubby and I escaped with 2 or so minutes to spare!! I have done many escape rooms in the past and I have to say, this was my absolute favorite one! Even with my kids screaming in fear!! (don't worry about them being scared, they loved watched me in video scream and jump!!) haha I highly recommend anyone over the age of 13 doing this! It was so much fun!!!!! We booked two back to back rooms here since we're not from the area. I'll start by saying the only issue we had were the size of the rooms. They were TINY. They took what seemed like one normal sized office room and split it in two. We had 6 of us and we were stepping all over each other in the Cyberpunk room, although Blackbeard's was a lot more spacious. My favorite of the two was definitely Cyberpunk. I'm a linear escape room girly, so that was better for me. I didn't like how crammed it was, and I personally think it would probably be done best with a group of 4 or less. Blackbeard was definitely a nonlinear room and I didn't enjoy it at all. I can say though, I understand why Blackbeard was rated as tough as it was, bring your thinking cap. To toot my own horn, we did escape both rooms! Our game master was Ethan, and he was fantastic. Kept up with my brother's pirate shenanigans (which to be fair were hilarious), and didn't give us clues that we didn't ask for. Love that for us. If you're looking for a challenging couple rooms, I'd suggest checking them out! They do have a third room, and if we find ourselves in the area, we may try that one out too. read more

Phenomenally fantastic! The Chesapeake Bay Butcher room is what all serial killer nightmares are made of! This twisted, macabre , horror themed room has all the psychological thrills from the visuals to the auditory. Robyn our game master was great. She had us hyped and informed us what specific category of items the "butcher" becomes angry when they're disturbed. Because who wants to upset a killer on the loose and potentially become his next victims?! Don't expect to go into a murderer's lair and NOT to feel distraught, horrified and anxious to see what lurks behind the doors. I felt like the mystery gang from Scooby-doo thrown into the world of a serial killer. Except we paid willingly to encounter this madness. We're not in Kansas anymore Toto. So grab hold of your friends or family and mentally prepare for this tumultuous trip! Your group can choose to have hints or not. The hints are cleverly provided, allowing for full immersion. I would definitely use the bathroom BEFORE you go on this murderous mayhem mission. There was a lot of running, pushing, shoving, screaming and yelling going on and that was amongst our own group. Hahaha, are you intrigued yet ? Just WHAT exactly is going on in this escape room that would cause us to react like this?! You might just have to experience it for yourself. We were in town with friends visiting the area. My wife and I love escape rooms. We were invited to do the Chesapeake Bay Butcher room by our friends, who did it a few years ago but did not remember much about it. My wife and I have attempted at least twenty rooms. This room was SCARY and well done. Very immersive and while the puzzles weren't overall very difficult, the way the room preys on your senses and anxiety really makes it well done. Probably one of the best escape rooms in Williamsburg! These local owners really put a lot of thought and creativity in their rooms. By far, my favorite is The Chesapeake Bay Butcher! It is intense and not for the faint of heart. Be prepared to scream and run around an enormous space like rats in a maze. It was amazing and a whole lot of fun. We decided to try something different with our kids...20, 17, & 15 with my husband and me. Well, first we a little skeptical but this was by far one of the best escape rooms we have ever done. I stood there and cried for a minute then continue to shake the entire time. The clues and rooms were very well laid out and whew, flippin' scary like the website says (and I love all things ... scary movies and Halloween and it was definitely frightening and intense) Loved it and highly recommend it. We had an amazing experience at the Colonial Escape room today! The facility was clean and the staff was super friendly and informative. It was our first time doing an escape room, so we had no clue as to what we should expect. Clearly, in order to solve the case you must be literate, analytical, a math genius, inquisitive and extremely patient. The escape room experience can go one of two ways. Either you will be stressed to the max and ready to find new friends or you will begin to laugh at how unaware of your surroundings you are. This was so fun!! My boyfriend and I went here for a date night. We were in the dark room. We had to find out who was going to be killed next. We had one hour. WOW!! It was a great challenge! We did the Cyberpunk challenge - my wife and I loved the Y2K retro feel, while our son liked the tech/hacker element. We've done other escape rooms before, and becasue this is individually owned & not a franchise there was a lot of personal touch to all of the handmade assembled of the game. And since it's individually owned, instead of hints coming via prerecorded, timed info hints came based on whichever specific task we might have been stuck on. The guy working the morning we visited also gave us a tour afterward of the rest of the place. Next time we're down we'll be visiting again! read more

Cyberpunked is the newest addition to Colonial Escape's stunning line up of escape experiences and continues the tradition of excellence proudly. As we've come to expect from the team here, this room is an exemplar of awesome aesthetics, puzzle design, and game flow. It's hard not to be awed when you walk into the room. The props and lighting work together for that perfect otherworldly cyberpunk feel. Crazy mannequin heads, computers slapped together in a way that could only be described as manic, TV's shooting out images from the 80's and 90's all draw you into this strange world. In truth, the room here is its own character in the Cyberpunked story, and the more you play the more you feel like you get to know the villain behind it all. But this is just the surface. Puzzle design in Cyberpunked is just truly astonishing. It's challenging, but never in that way that makes you want to give up. What really stands out, though, is how unique and creative the puzzles are. I can honestly say there are more than a few puzzles in this room that we haven't seen before or since, with the final puzzle being an absolute blast. The end result is that kind of experience where you can't stop smiling as you work through a puzzle because it's just that damn cool. What ties it all together is a sense of flow. This is one of those rooms that could be done with big groups or just you and your favorite partner in cyber-crime. There is so much to do with smaller puzzles that build into bigger puzzles which can be worked in parallel which means you don't have a lot of room for team members to feel like they aren't contributing. It is challenging, and this is a room where prior knowledge isn't necessary but makes it easier, so 80's and 90's kids rejoice! This is a room almost hand-crafted for you. Actually this is a room hand-crafted for everyone and I can't imagine a world where an escape room enthusiast wouldn't love this one, nor would I want to live in it. read more

My fiancé and I had been debating doing an escape room for some time but hadn't. I seen it online and decided to book it. I figured it was going to be amazing or give me a headache lol. When we arrived, we were a little confused because the area looked like townhouses/ corporate buildings. You are definitely in the right area. There's a row of blue townhouses so pull into the parking area and it abput halfway in just look for 206. When we walked in Alan greeted us and explained the 3 different rooms. We went with Blackbeards Cabin. Alan said he'll give us a few mins extra at the end if we needed it. So we searched the room for the clues. And if you need help, you have to ask the skull in a pirate voice and he'll answer. It was hilarious hearing my fiancé speak like a pirate. We had fun finding the clues and trying to figure it out. Unfortunately for us we didn't solve it but we had fun trying. I would definitely come back and try a different room. Give it a try, you have a great time whether you solve it or not. read more
