We lived in Central Massachusetts for a decade before we moved to Connecticut so we were very familiar with Hebert Candies, especially the fabulous Candy Mansion in Shrewsbury. The brand is still alive and well, and we visited one of their stores in Bolton, MA on the way home from New Hampshire. The store is loaded with every variation and permutation of chocolate under the sun -pops and bars, and truffles and barks, etc. We picked up half a dozen items a chocolate dinosaur pop, a bag of lollypops, a chocolate bar, a box of sugar free toffee squares, two chocolate covered Oreos and a piece of chocolate bark. Here's two stories - we didn't see any bark out on the shelves, and when we mentioned it to the sales clerk she said she had a fresh batch in the back, so she ran back there, broke off a hunk, priced it and wrapped it up for us. That was nice. I was struck by the many different variations of chocolate covered Oreos -we picked up milk and dark chocolate versions. I just read a 2019 article that said Richard Hebert makes the covered Oreos  in the store's basement where he "single-handedly, makes 1,000 a day". That is beyond cool, isn't it?

I found Colonial Candies by accident so long ago I don't remember when. So when I pulled off the highway for gas and saw their sign, I was so excited! Then I saw a for sale sign right by theirs, and I was confused. What could have happened? Thankfully the nice gas station attendants corrected me and explained the for sale sign was for houses down the same road, Colonial Candies is certainly still there. (It was an emotional whirlwind, thank you for reliving it with me.) I was there before Halloween, and it was amazingly festive! Blow ups outside, silhouettes upstairs, and pumpkins everywhere. They had plenty of chocolate, gummies, and various other sweets for sale. The chocolate is smooth and has so many varieties, it's great for individualized presents. There was also an ice cream counter where I got a refreshing chocolate shake for the rest of the drive. There looks like there was a sundae bar but closed.... I suspect we can blame Covid. There is a sit down area to eat your ice cream, and a restroom in the store.

Super ghetto and depressing in here. It's like stepping back in time 30-40 years. Dim lighting & dingy displays. Nothing looked particularly appealing BC the packaging was so plain and looked really cheap. For me, the fun of candy and confections comes largely from the packaging! Ice cream case looked gross. There were two half eaten cups of ice cream which the employees had clearly saved for later in the same freezer as the ice cream on display for customers. That was unappetizing to see. The ice cream topping bar was hidden in a dark corner and containers were filled with the paltriest amounts of toppings. It was obvious that they rarely get customers who use the topping bar so they didn't want to fill the containers full of fresh toppings.

Lovely experience Apple picking at Honey Pot Hill Orchards this last week…read more Service was great all around despite over an hour wait for the cider donuts (which were most definitely worth the wait). Apples were extremely tasty with great variety and plenty of ladders for picking. My only fret was that the signage at times was not the most clear. And the best part: the ambiance of it all. Perfect cool day in Mass with all the Fall colors and families having a great time... it was such a positive atmosphere. Would totally go again.

I got a small bag for $12.50 which was a great deal. I had no problem with parking. I got a good amount of apples, although I wish the signs for the types of apples were clearer. The main reason my rating isn't higher is due to the policing near the exit. I've been through security at concert venues that were less scrutinizing. When I was leaving, an employee was near the entrance was inspecting the wagon of a family with multiple bags. I didn't hear the entire conversation but I did hear the employee lecturing them about not overfilling the bags. The employee also said to not reuse the bags (something that could be prevented if they wrote the dates on the bags as other orchards do) and understandably the family said they wouldn't come back. Even though I wasn't the target of the apple police, it created an uncomfortable atmosphere. The best part of my visit was the cider donuts. The farm store was disappointingly small with mainly apples and cider available for purchase. Considering the plethora of options for apple picking in MA, I don't plan to return here.

You arrive through the ice cream shop (I've been to the ice cream shop before and I had no idea that this was here) and you go to the back to an unmarked door by the restrooms. You flip the switch and the doorkeeper checks your id and you wait until there is a table. Once you go in, it is a small restaurant/bar. The focus is definitely on the alcohol. There are several interesting cocktails to try. I had the martini. It was served in a flask on ice. It was strong. My friend tried the Manhattan and she was very pleased by the flavor. We had the burger and shared the fries. Those were good but not the best I've ever had. But the concept of the fries was very good. My friends got the salmon dip and that was exciting. The deserts are mostly spiked too. The service was very good and I will be excited to come back again next time I'm In the area.

That being said, we still had a pleasant dinner and enjoyed our meal but I don't think we will be itching to return. The standout being the french fries-- tossed in a delicious truffle butter. We both enjoyed the ny strip-- I found it odd that you couldn't order it cooked to your liking. We had asked for our steak cooked medium and they "can only do medium rare" per the servers words. That felt a bit odd-- I cannot not understand the reasoning why. The flavor on the steak was delicious, the cream sauce outstanding, and the greens were a nice touch. I would not recommend the cacio de pepe -- that didn't feel like an authentic pasta rather overcooked mac and cheese. It was not what we were expecting. The other thing that fell a bit short was the service. Completely different than their sister rail trail, the service was cold. It felt as if we were a bother. Our dining experience was less than an hour, it was prompt service. Ambiance is nice, small seating, dark.

We tried Kalon beef a number of times by buying from their storefront but finally decided to buy half a cow. It took a couple months to finish off the previous cow we'd purchased before getting to the Kalon cow but immediately knew something was wrong as soon as we tried our first steak. There was a subtle "off" taste to it. Over the next month or so, we tried multiple different cuts and all the ones with any fat or marbling had the same issue. The leaner cuts were mostly okay. I reached out to Kalon using the form on their website. No reply. I reached out again via email. No reply. I was very clear that I wasn't expecting a refund or reimbursement of any kind because I knew it had been a few months. I just wanted to inform them and ask if anybody else had reported the same issue. Still nothing back from them. Eventually, a few months later, I remembered that I still hadn't heard anything back so I called and asked to speak to someone in charge. They were super sarcastic on the phone. It started with "Are you sure you bought from us? I don't even recognize your name." It progressed to "Many people complain about the taste because they don't know what real grass-fed beef tastes like; it's not like store-bought meat." It ended with "We had another complaint a few months ago but our owner took the beef home and ate it all and it was fine." I went there three days ago to drop off the over 240lbs of what remained. Around 80lbs of assorted steaks and cuts. Around 20-30lbs of roasts. Around 100lbs of mince. Around 30-40lbs of bones, tallow, organs, etc. I was very polite to the person at the desk (it's not her fault, after all), we were respectful of the space and brought everything back in cooler boxes and placed them neatly inside. I handed them a letter (pic attached) and included my phone number in case the owner wanted to call me back. Still zero response. There are a few other reviews online complaining about the same "off" taste but there's seemingly always some sort of excuse as to why it's the customer's fault or that the customer just doesn't understand what good beef tastes like. I also saw some posts about their farming practices, stating that their animals were feeding on what used to be dump grounds. I didn't see that for myself so I can't comment but it was worth noting that it's being said by more than just a few people. Personally, I've accepted the loss of, literally, thousands of dollars of meat. It would've just been the professional thing to reach out to me at least once to discuss the matter. Instead, I get complete radio silence. I included a pic of the email I'd sent and the letter I left. I also included a comparison pic of Kalon's mince to the mince from my previous farm. Theirs looks extremely pale and anemic in comparison. It also doesn't match what they sell in their storefront. I suspect their storefront gets meat from their healthy cows but bulk orders are not from the same batch but, obviously, that's purely speculation so take it for what it's worth. I have no evidence one way or another but the discrepancy in quality between bulk and storefront is visible/tastable.
