the inside of the store
Tony L.

It's been 6 years since I've been to a CTB (when it was still at it's collegetown location, and I lived down the block). The sandwiches and food have always been overpriced, but finally now I can spend the money and judge it based on the quality. We got a variety of sandwiches on the two days we came, and both were really good, but small in portion. The bagels were just...not proper NYC bagels, but I guess it's the best they could do here. The sandwiches with Turkey really do hit the mark, though. The drinks are ok, but I can't really judge as a tea drinker who had a sip of someone else's chai latte. Overall though, the workers were really efficient and kind. Normally, I'd come to CTB to sit and people watch on the patio, but not sure how this will work now at the new location.

Varna's Vegan Sandwich, Coconut Cake, Geller Cup

I thought this place had a lot of potential, but it fell short for me. They have a huge selection of bagels/sandwiches/wraps/salads, desserts (both housemade and packaged from Ithaca Bakery), smoothies, and tea/coffee. There's lots of seating inside and out, and the shop has a nice rustic vibe with lots of gifts and packaged food for sale in addition to the fresh food. Some of the tables inside have plexiglass dividers between, some don't. It was moderately busy when I visited at 1:45 on Tuesday, but they were reasonably quick in getting orders out. I went with the Varna's Vegan Sandwich, a Coconut Cake Slice, and the seasonal Geller Cup (turmeric steamed milk). The sandwich was just okay. The marinated seitan was actually pretty flavourful, but otherwise the sandwich was pretty plain. I felt like it needed a spread of some sort (even just plain vegan mayo would have done the job) to tie it together. Apparently it comes with balsamic vinaigrette, but when I was eating it, I'd thought this flavour was just coming from the seitan - they either need to use more vinaigrette or add something else. The bread could have just been packaged wheat bread from the grocery store. It was fine, but I was expecting more from a bakery. The cake was stale - hard and dry. The frosting was hard and flavourless, and wasn't sticking to the cake. There were lots of shredded coconut throughout the cake, but there just wasn't enough moisture in the cake to actually support the coconut and make it taste right. The Geller Cup was good - pretty sweet for my taste, but the turmeric flavour was strong. They make it with a turmeric syrup instead of a powder like other turmeric lattes I've tried, which would explain the sugariness, but on the positive side, the drink wasn't at all powdery and there was no pile of spices at the bottom when it finished. I might be give this place or another location a second try because the concept is so promising, but if I had a similar experience with the food again I definitely wouldn't be back.

Food

Walking into this establishment, it looked overwhelming and full of choices. I had an apple pie bagel with regular cream cheese. It was toasted perfectly. My BIG issue wasn't with the food but with the cleanliness. The plastic covering for the salad bar was disgusting. Easy enough to clean but was left filthy.

California Sunrise on an Asiago bagel, with an iced latte.

Good breakfast sandwich place. I ordered the California Sunrise on an Asiago bagel, which was eggs, avocado, onion & melted pepper jack cheese. It was good. I also had a specialty iced latte, but the name escapes me (something chocolaty). I was desperate for caffeine and it tasted especially good, due to that desperation. CTB has an extensive menu and lots of options for breakfast and lunch. It was almost overwhelming, when presented with all our options. I can see why that this would be a very popular place in Ithaca. This location had both indoor and outdoor seating, which was nice on a beautiful sunny morning. Hope to come back sometime.

Split sandwiches...open-faced tuna melt and a West End

Great concept, well executed...and if you love bagels, then give it a go! Daughter and I split a couple of sandwiches...the open-faced tuna melt on an everything bagel (yum!) and the West End (consisting of roast beef, a spicy honey mustard dressing and tomato) which was a grilled Panini style. Both sandwiches were full of flavor and quite filling. Along with chips and a drink the meals were priced reasonably, especially for the quality of what you get. Fun place, could see hanging out here with a coffee and getting your work done.

Turkey sandwich but they forgot the turkey

Had a mess up on my orders 5 days ago but decided to give them another chance. I ordered a roasted turkey deli sandwich for pickup and when I pulled apart the sandwich halves I noticed there was no turkey. Not sure how they could forget turkey on a turkey sandwich but at least they got everything else in there... They were still very nice when I called and remade it for me after with the turkey which is why I gave 3 stars.

Loved it! I had the Zag panini and it was delicious. Great gluten free options and so many different wraps and sandwiches!

I had a good experience here for the most part! I went twice during my trip. I enjoyed the gluten…read morefree toast and bagels and got an egg and cheese one day, and a scallion cream cheese and cucumber the next. The coffee is also delicious and didn't even need a flavor added. The man taking our orders the first day was also incredibly kind and you could tell he just enjoyed his job, or at least was happy to be there. There's also a mini shop here basically. There's fresh bread and prepackaged meals here like Shepards pie and fruits and veggies. There also was plenty of cute merch and I left with two designs. Two things that I didn't like. Ordering was a bit chaotic. There are labeled areas that show where to order what, but if it's your first time in it can feel overwhelming and you might be wandering a bit figuring it out. I wish it could all be ordered at one spot, not like it's a food hall. I understand that this probably does work the best for them though and is most likely pretty easy for ordering if you're a local. Lastly, I had an issue with a woman working the second day. They have a big menu and I was looking at it above her head while ordering. She was fine while I was talking, but stopped me when I went to walk away. She said "You know, you really need to face people while you're talking to them." What! So awkward and weird. That's the main reason I took one star off because it caused me not to go back again. Very rude and felt like a mini lecture for no reason.

This visit we got coffee, breakfast sandwiches and various baked goods. The restaurant was busy and hopping with activity on a Sunday morning around 9AM. The parking lot was full but there was street parking around the business. There was also plenty of seating for us to find some room to eat in comfort. You order food at one counter but you pay at the other counter? All food is delivered to the "pay" counter. Service was fast, even with the crowd, the breakfast sandwiches were delicious, the coffee was dark (which we love) and the baked goods didn't last long. We got a cinnamon coffee cake and a loaf of bread that were huge hits. "Baked in Ithaca" - what a slogan!

We're always on the look out for a good coffee place and this place delivered! I think the best…read moretaste of coffee is drinking it black with no add ins to truly taste whether the bean was roasted properly. Staff were friendly, interior was spacious, and their pastries were yummy. We bought a couple bags to take home because we loved it so much. One drawback, their interior is too nice that people don't want to leave. Lots of customers on their laptops and devices just hanging out. If you want to just sit and relax with a good cup of coffee, sit by the window or grab a cup to go.

Love their branding - I instantly wanted to buy the mugs, tote bags and travel mugs. So stinkin cute! I of course am already overloaded with tote bags so I decided to hang tight. Ordered a macchiato, since they do make it the classic way. Espresso with a dash of steamed milk. From oat milk, to almond milk to regular milk, the choice is yours. Coffee wise, I'm a purist, I like regular espresso. Call me crazy, but just plain arabica non complicated beans are IT for me. I'm a lavazza and kimbo drinker so anytime there's modified beans or over worked or under roasted or whatever it is kind of beans, 90% of the time, my espresso will not come out as I'd normally prefer it. We're in America, so I get it, a lot of people do prefer it like this or perhaps order their coffee with loads of milk and impossible to drink. Either way, I loved this coffee shop for the vibes. Extremely nice cashier, staff and barista. Cute little baked good section and simple espresso based drinks, including chai and matcha. Besides the coffee beans not being to my liking (this is just me) I do love this place and I'm so happy we popped in.

Stopped by in the afternoon for a bagel & beverage! The service was very friendly and efficient…read more Very comfortable ambiance & cute merchandise to check out while you wait for your order. There was ample seating available. The location is convenient as well. I ordered an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. Although they were out of a regular everything, they did have a whole wheat variety, which is what I ended up substituting it with. The bagel was fine, nothing to write home about. I have heard that their bagels are fantastic so I will probably be back to try a different variety! My understanding is that they sell bagels from College Town Bagels, which I have not tried on its own yet. Note that they call their everything bagels "Long Island Bagels." I also ordered an iced matcha with vanilla and oatmilk. This was the perfect matcha in my opinion! Perfect amount of sweetness, the matcha flavor was spot on, and the oat milk was creamy. This is one of the better matchas I have tried. Overall, pleasant experience and I would like to try more of what they have to offer! Be aware that it is a little pricey, but worth it if you are looking for a wonderful beverage and friendly service!
