We have twins who recently started college at two different universities, both on the opposite coast from our home. Trying to figure out how to get everything there was challenging, and we used college boxes despite the multiple negative reviews. We had success with it and I thought a more detailed evaluation would be helpful to other parents. The irritating thing is that there is no price transparency. It costs about $50 for a starter kit of 5 very good size boxes, but you don't know the shipping cost until you print the labels for the boxes, and it is quite pricey. On average it is $85 per box. They state on the website that the shipping is free, however they are charging you for storing and then delivering the boxes. The second hidden issue is that each college has one delivery date, and that is the only date included in the cost listed above. One of our daughters date was her move in day, so it was not problem. Her boxes actually arrived and were delivered in her dorm room 3 days before she moved in which was excellent. We just walked in and started upacking. My other daughter's date was 2 days after she moved in. You can pay an additional fee, around $200, to get it delivered on a different date. Also her college does not allow delivery to the dorm room unless the student is there to receive the boxes, and only on move in day. You can get this information on their website by entering the college name and it gives you the delivery date. However, despite these things, all their boxes were picked up on time at our home and delivered on time to their dorm rooms. It saved us an incredible amount of time. We ordered what they needed to our home, boxed it up and had it shipped. We did not have to deal with registries at places like bed, bath and beyond and then have to pick items up in a different stated. We also didn't have to deal with shipping boxes ourselves and then picking them up at the college mail room (lines out the door) in 95 degree heat and then cart them physically over the the dorm. So for us the service worked, was very convenient and I would use it again. You just need to know what you are getting into with the prices - it's not cheap. read more

They lost 2 of my packages. After an extremely difficult claim process, they only refunded me 365 dollars when it was worth 2587. Would rather drive cross country than use these people again read more

Wish I had checked out this company on Yelp before using them. Concept is great but execution is poor! Shipping from Canada to US. They forgot to have me fill out an important form which delayed shipment 20+days. Boxes all arrived damaged with items missing or broken. One box was received in a box that it was not sent in. Customer service was very responsive and mostly kind, but never helpful. The only reason I got my boxes was because I put in all the work to get them released from customs! AVOID and ship with anyone else read more

Expensive. They are not straight forward with the prices. Once I ordered the starter box I realized each box will cost $80 to ship. Requested a refund for the $40 starter box and was denied. read more

Do not book this service. Prices are ridiculously high. I booked, got a price and then cancelled. Was still charged $75 as they said I did not cancel. I did cancel and argued this to no avail. Not a good company to work with! read more

They destroyed my belongings in transit and then left them outside in the freezing cold rain to mildew. Worst company, even worse service!

moved boxes from my dorm to my apt, i emailed asking when i am suppose to put in my address for them to ship the boxes, they replied back saying i didnt use their service, i sent them back pictures of them taking my boxes and they said they are going to look for them, after a couple of days not hearing from them, I messaged them and asked if they found it. They reply asking what address to ship it to. put in 3 boxes only got 2. They said they lost 1 and am now waiting for my claim which they prob might not even give. read more

Worst company I have ever dealt with. Their customer service staff are extremely rude. Several packages arrived with what appears to be deliberate damage. Two boxes never arrived. When contacted they were constantly disrespectful and did not want to assist me. I had to go through FedEx to have everything fixed. Never use this company. Always make sure to get insurance and take plenty of pictures. How they are still in business is beyond me. read more

They blocked in the only entrance to an entire parking area using two uhauls. They refused to move the trucks until five cars were backed up and we threatened to call the cops. This company should feel ashamed to have workers acting this way wearing their company's uniform. Don't use this company, there are better options. read more

Awful! Picked up 4 boxes from Texas to be shipped to UCSB for college move in. Boxes could not be located by UHaul, ended up being in 2 separate locations once found after two hours of stress. No way to reach anyone at Collegeboxes on that day ( closed for the weekend). Do not use! read more

I have to warn anyone from using this service. It's a scam. They have "great" customer service all the up until your packages are taken (leading you to trust them). Then, once the packages are gone, you're on your own and wondering if you'll ever get them again. I do not recommend anyone using this service unless they want to send hundreds of dollars worth of stuff into oblivion forever, and be charged hundreds of dollars to do so (with no prayer of ever getting reimbursed). Be warned: college boxes is very wily. They have "FedEx" and "UHaul" all over their very official looking website. It's all a cover. Don't be fooled. read more

We tried this at the University of Tennessee... customer service could not have been worse. They are completely inflexible about drop off and pick up dates... When busy, calls go to UHAUL people who cannot help.. even tried manager. My son waited all day (10-4) to pay extra and we are still waiting.. extra $250 for nothing to show up. Buyer beware. read more

Worst customer service and company I've ever done business with. After I arranged a pickup date/location and rented a u-haul to move my own boxes, I was told that my boxes were not at that location. Several texts, emails, and phone calls went ignored or were redirected with no follow-up. When I called them out on their chat system, I was straight up ghosted. After being told that my boxes were actually at the original location, they refused to deliver my boxes to me for free asap. They made me wait until their free delivery date which was 12 days later. My boxes contained everything I needed to live. No representatives apologized or admitted any responsibility or wrongdoing. Everywhere I've looked they have bad reviews. Never ever ever ever use this company. read more

Do NOT use this company College Boxes!!! We sent boxes from Connecticut to Stanford, with 9 days to get it there (within their guidelines), supposed to arrive today. Daughter's move-in is tomorrow and they don't know when the boxes will arrive! Support has been useless and terrible. Sadly disappointed. Zero stars!!! read more

We had an excellent experience. I know everyone else's experience was horrible. BUT we only used College Boxes for shipping directly from my daughter's apartment in the Bronx to our home in Alabama. I signed up for an account and ordered boxes. They arrived within 3 days of ordering. The boxes came nicely packaged with five large double walled boxes with a roll of tape and several fedex plastic labels. Beware that you must print out your own labels for the fedex envelopes including box dimensions and estimated weight of boxes. This is done through the Collegeboxes website within your account. We had already loaded everything and had no immediate access to a printer. Luckily our hotel was able to accommodate and printed them for us. The pickup time for Fedex was from 10 to 6 which was a bit annoying for us. However, we were given the time frame via text and e-mail in advance so we were prepared to wait. We received the boxes 3 days later!! A couple of the boxes were slightly damaged. However, the boxes are double walled so the contents inside were not damaged. We were charged $50.00 per box which totaled $500.00 for us. Way cheaper then renting a pod storage unit or hiring a mover. read more

There are a lot of bad reviews for this service but I had a good experience with them. I didn't do their full service packing and storage option, but used their direct shipping option and had no problems. I ordered their moving starter kit, packed my boxes, used my Collegeboxes account to print my labels and schedule my FedEx pick up. They gave me a time frame of 10am to 6pm for pickup; I had my boxes ready and stacked outside my door by 10am. I was dreading having to wait all day for FedEx but they were there a little after 11am. My Collegeboxes account showed me the transit status of my boxes; they got from Arkansas to New York in 3 days. Everything was in good condition upon arrival. Cost was less than $200 to ship five boxes. read more

You fuckers lost my iPad and when we submitted a claim we never received a refund. Even after multiple follow ups, this business is a scam. Avoid at all costs. read more

Like so many others on here, if I could give no stars I would. CB listed my kid's belongings as having been delivered to his dorm room, when in fact, they had lost all of them. It's one (incompetent and negligent) thing to lose the items you've contracted to store and deliver safely, it's an entirely different (deceptive and fraudulent) thing to claim they had been delivered. At one point, CB said they thought the boxes had been improperly registered when FedEx first delivered them to the warehouse. So why then were they listed on my account as being safely stored in the warehouse all summer and then as having been delivered to the dorm? I argued that I should be compensated for the full value of the boxes without having to provide documentation, which would have required hours of work on top of hours they have already taken from me in terms of shopping, packing and shipping and then MORE shopping (some of which I had to do instead of attending parent orientation programming at my kid's school) and packing and shipping, all with NO guarantee that they'd ultimately approve the claim. My argument was based on breach of contract on their part because they clearly did not meet the standard of care that they promised in their marketing materials. Instead of connecting me to a person I could discuss the issue with, their customer service essentially ghosted me in the form of non-responsive responses. This is what happens when there is next to no competition in the space. Could someone please start a reliable, responsive, professional student moving and storage company? read more

My son went through College Boxes to ship his stuff from Houston to UC Santa Barbara. 4 boxes were picked up by FedEx. 3 boxes were dropped off at a Uhaul storage facility. The place was closed at 3pm on Saturday Sept 23, and we had to check into the dorm at 4 pm. College Boxes had nobody available to help my son who was getting stressed out. For some reason, one box was shipped to another Uhaul location in Santa Barbara....we found the box in the rear of that facility. WHY the boxes were not all delivered to one spot is my question. I finally got hold of a worker at the closed Uhaul storage facility and he came in15 minutes to open up and we found the other three boxes. College boxes was not available to help us find the three boxes at the closed location, and never emailed us with information on what to expect on pick up day. There is no reason to use College Boxes for my 11th grader when he's off to school in 2 years. read more

They haven't delivered boxes. They will not return calls or emails. Some students got their boxes and some did not.

If I could give it zero stars I would. After losing the boxes for 4 months, they finally found them and have tried to schedule deliveries multiple times in the last few days and they either say they have no record of the delivery or they are coming and never show. They never call back either. Surprisingly they are going to charge me $295 to get the boxes back. I wish o had read these reviews prior to picking this service. Consumer beware. Don't recommend. read more

Packages came with severe damage and insurance was refused on the basis that they didn't have "sufficient padding" AKA the original corner packaging. Plain and simple? Don't trust monkeys to do a man's job. I'm irritated of their flippant policies and their decidedly atrocious handling of the packages and customer service. read more

The biggest scam of a company I've ever encountered. My university partnered with them during the COVID shutdown, and I had no choice but to use their moving services. I paid 600$ for them to ship me irreparably broken items, many of which cannot be replaced. After filling out all the proper claims forms IN JUNE they still refuse to answer my emails, calls, etc now that it is SEPTEMBER. Absolutely disgusted with this company- I lost over 1000$ due to them. NEVER USE!!! read more

If you want your items broken, trashed, lost then definitely use College Boxes! That's what they did to my things. They packed up my apartment and did a miserable job - things were just thrown in boxes. No surprise that my belongings got trashed. For awhile, they couldn't even find my boxes! They are not responsive when you try to contact them, and then didn't care. MISERABLE experience with them. read more

Actually the worst business I've ever dealt with in my life, and it seems to be for many others. I've been given the run around multiple times, they have lost my stuff, told me wrong information leading to them not moving my items to my dorm unless I paid $250. Im currently in the process of not knowing where my items are and having to wait an hour for them to come to the u-haul center and unlock the storage unit to hope my stuff is in there. If I could give -5/5 stars I would. Never again read more

I would give this zero stars if I could. After calling days early to confirm my pick up date and my delivery date, college boxes failed to pick up my boxes. When I called to ask what to do, they told me to just take it to FedEx. However, they also told me, despite what they had told me in our earlier conversation, that there was no way my daughters items would arrive at her college in time. They were not at all apologetic and offered no solutions, even though it was their fault for failing to send a pick up truck and for incorrectly telling me when I needed to ship by in order to have my daughters belongings arrive in time. Never again. read more

Completely horrible experience. I gave them my boxes before summer. When school was getting ready to start, they called me on a random day saying they were at the school to deliver my stuff. I happened to be still out of town and the guy on the phone got angry at me and hung up in my face. I tried to reschedule my delivery and they said it would be a $295 fee. They were trying to charge me to give my boxes back! DO NOT USE UHAUL COLLEGEBOXES!!!!!! read more

Literally the worst service ever. When I scheduled my pick-up date for my items, they failed to send the packing materials on time and left me hanging. When they finally showed up to collect my things, they came hours late. When I scheduled delivery for my items to my new apartment, they delivered my items 2 weeks after the scheduled date. They claim its because the card they had on file was declined because it was a closed account, yet they failed to contact me about payment until nearly 1 week after the boxes were already supposed to be delivered. There's no transparency from the company whatsoever and they refuse to take any sort of accountability for their horrible service. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

Please, DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! They are highly inconsistent and hard to reach. I used the ship to school service. First. I was given a time window of 10 AM to 6 PM for my boxes to be picked up from my house to ship to school. The FedEx man arrived at 9:30 AM. The boxes were all packed but I had not yet brought them to the door. He said he is not allowed inside to help and also that he was on a tight schedule. I told him I would bring the 7 boxes as fast as possible to which he replied that he did not even have space on his truck for 7 boxes and that someone would come later. This worked out fine but gave me doubts to their service. Now, at school I had my boxes scheduled to be delivered the day after I arrived. I received a text that morning that boxes would be delivered between 9 AM and 2 PM. At 3 PM, with no communication from the company all day, I try to go on the website (which kept having an error and would not load) and also called both numbers listed. Neither was any help. FINALLY, I emailed them to which a local representative responded rather quickly by calling me. The representative said my boxes were not on the truck because I had written in my apartment building rather than selecting it because it was not listed (How is this my problem? They should have called me earlier to confirm where the boxes were going). Also, she said that they had to go back to the ware house but could come that night between 6 and 7 pm. I said okay. Again, no show. I get a call at 8:30 pm saying they will come first thing in the morning at 10 AM. This morning, I call the number from last night at 10:45 after having waited. The rep says 15 minutes. At 3:00 o'clock I left the house because I was tired of waiting after trying to call them multiple times. As soon as I leave the house I get a call that they are on their way. I ask them to leave the boxes outside my door and they do. I will never use this company again. read more

I paid extra money for "insurance" based on the value of the stuffs in the boxes. Yet when arrived, 2 of my boxes were "damaged". I found some sticky liquid all over my stuffs and this didn't come from leaking of the stuffs I packed because I carefully followed their instruction to NOT pack liquids. On top of that I also lost a couple of personal items. Won't use their service again. read more

Terrible company. Unprofessional and their site is terrible. It takes your money then makes it impossible to delete or edit items. They don't answer when you try to call them and the people who pick up are rude and almost left last year without my daughter's stuff. read more

Never ship with this company. I have shipped with them three times. The first time everything went smoothly. The second time they lost my boxes. The third time, they lost one of my boxes, broke my television, and my glassware. I insured my boxes and they refused to pay the insurance amount. Never ship with them. I also stored my boxes with them and they store your items with other customers (something they did not tell me). They also moved my items to different storage units across the city without telling me. I had to find out when I went to the storage unit to get my things and all of my things were gone. They also have taken months to even answer my email or claims. I would give them zero stars if it was possible read more

Ridiculous - never came to pick up our daughter's boxes. I chatted and called numerous times with assurances that Fed Ex would be there that day. Then reading reviews that the have same track record when delivering to the dorms so we're coming up with plan B to ship on our own! read more

I would not recommend anyone to do business with this company. This company lost a handful of my important college items over the course of the summer, May-August. The total amount of items I gave them was not recorded appropriately on their end (something I expected of them to do as they are a moving company). And now my items, that were labeled, are lost. Shortly after delivery, this realization was made evident as moving can be a very hectic process. Therefore, I ended up filing a claim, and they stated how they could not help me at all because they only recorded a certain amount of items in their possession. Again, this was not the full amount of items I gave to them. Additionally, I did not take anything out of storage over the summer. I entrusted this company to record and store all my items appropriately and they failed to do that, nor provide any financial assistance for me to replace the items lost in their possession. I would not recommend them to anyone if you would like your items to be safely stored and taken care of. read more

College boxes lost one of my daughter's three boxes before delivery to campus in late August. Tried to move with them twice, due to me wanting to give them a second chance. I will not be giving them a third. During the first attempt, over $500 in possessions was destroyed by their terrible moving practices. During the second attempt, I faced a delay of over 3 weeks from my promised ship date. Both times, customer service was terrible. Do not use this company for any moving/relocation attempt, they will break your stuff and never deliver at the time that you want them to. read more

From day one of working with this company, sent boxes and a trunk to daughter's college across country, to final day they were great. The last pick up day, she couldn't print box labels, but they said no worries, took the items, and printed for her at storage place. Even when we realized that they had stored them again (as they'd done for 3 years) instead of sending them back across the country, a simple email got the boxes and trunk on their way. AMAZING SERVICE. I had my boxes shipped from my dorm at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago to where I currently reside in Tampa, Florida. I had 10 boxes. One in which was a 10x12 foot oriental rug. Without any questions, Collegeboxes packed/wrapped up my rug and charged me the same amount for their standard sized box. I am in school on a scholarship, so this worked for me. Thank you Collegeboxes. Anyone who is reading this, please remember to be appreciative. THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM!!!! Please do your research and don't use this company. Used this company because my school referred me to them. When my boxes arrived, I noticed so many of my possessions were missing. Including a camera, a gold necklace, clothing, mugs, etc... at least $400 worth of items missing. Items were thrown in boxes loosely such as small diamond earrings. I had expensive items missing and yet they packed trash, example an empty tissue box. read more

I only wish I had read the reviews before signing up to use them for my son. Complete failure and disappointment.
