This is the worst grocery store. There is clearly no management that is worth their paycheck at this store for years. If any regional or corporate management ever actually visited this store they would be appalled. Avoid. Thats a big problem during fishing and camping season. The store is perpetually out of things, which is a real problem when you are remote and the only choice. That is a reflection of poor management and planning. Anyone who looks at seasonal fluctuations should know what to expect. I believe what part if the problem is shipments coming to Alaska are very limited and they don't have a storage place to pull from. They, and other smaller grocers should really pull together to find a way to address this issue, because Safeway is not the only grocery that faces this problem with running short of perishable items in between shipments. Get it together guys.

I just want to say thank you to Coal Point for an exceptional experience with packaging our fish. I…read morehad contacted them the day before our scheduled charter and they were very informative and told me to just give them a call as soon as our boat comes in and they would meet us at the dock with the totes. I informed our captain that we would be utilizing Coal point fish processing so they let them know 20 minutes prior to arriving at the docs and the worker was there waiting for us to pull in to retrieve our fish. I gave him my name my number and off he went. The next day, I called in to make sure that the fish would be ready for pick up as we were heading out of Homer that afternoon. When I was ready to pick up the fish, they pulled it out of the freezer and found the best way to have it packaged to be sent home. We were not leaving till the following day and overnighting in Anchorage. As I did have a cooler with me but our fish weighed 45 pounds and with the cooler it would have been over what is allowed for a bag through the airlines without incurring overweight charges so they suggested to ship it in a box and ensure that it would stay frozen for 36 hours, which gave us enough time to overnight in Anchorage and fly home to Hawaii without being thawed. Because we arrived in Anchorage so late we did not have an opportunity to put it in a freezer overnight, but when we reached home and opened the box and cooler that Coal point had packed for us, all the fish was still rock solid. We were also staying on Homer spit so earlier in the day. I did stop by to check out the location prior to having to come back later to pick up our fish overall such a great experience and I will definitely recommend them to friends and family and also would utilize them again if I ever came back.

5 stars....really?…read more Well if you've lived in bethel ( like me) Aniak( like me) Galena, walked to the town store from the airport in Quinhagak, and a plethora of other Alaska rural communities you know a special place when you find it. The town needed a store. A meeting was held: The Children smelled of mudflats , the women smelled of hydraulic fluid and boat bilge, and a fish jumped out if a mans rubber boot , and a volunteer stepped up. The owner of the store needed a wife, so goes the story, he wooed a damsel across the pacific in the Philippines. The time came to meet the dad and tie the knot. He travels the sea to the Philippines, meets the father and his mail order wife to be and....... she says ......uhmmmm. I've changed my mind. BUMMER DUUDE! Her Sister , " Ta-Ta" pipes up ..., "I'll marry you" We now have Ta Ta, manning...oops, Wo-manning the store. The store is decorated with her children's water color renditions of living in the bay. From toothbrushes and knives. To pots and pencils. From tomato paste and chili powder to rice noodles for stir fry. ( check, sesame oil for the fry) Baking powder , cream of tartar, muffin runs to limes for your corona. Is it Safeway fresh. Well, on ship day YES..,, The selection dwindles some in between ferry trips to/from the Road system. Linoleum artwork on the floor, wood shelves with at least ONE of everything. Do you want dill pickles for that peanut butter pickle sandwich ? They got em. You might take the last, or only, jar, but they got em. We stopped flying down our own food when we realized we didn't have to. Besides... Support local or loose it! After a few years of patronizing the crab pot, my wife said to the clerk/owner..... " are you Ta-Ta?" Says she" Yes, I'm the sister"

When you are in a "food desert" of sorts it is super nice to be able to grab a necessary item if you need it. Maybe that is a sweet treat you are craving or rice to complete a meal. The selection is limited but you will probably find what you are looking for even if it is the only one they have. The woman who runs the shop is SUPER nice. My suggestion is to not rely on the store for your needs when you travel to Seldovia but know it is there if you need it.

I had guests visiting earlier in the month and we all wanted crab legs. I placed my order July 1st with a delivery date of July 7th. I received an email with my shipping information and noticed my package was being shipped fedex standard overnight, where I live that meant my package could be delivered as late as 8pm. I emailed and asked if they could ship fedex priority overnight and they responded with a yes. That didn't happen, I was given a new tracking number that was priority overnight but the label wasn't put on the package and per fedex the priority was canceled per the shipper. There was a shipping delay on my package which more than likely would not have happened of it was shipped priority. I did not receive my package on the 7th which was a disaster because we planned on having them for dinner. The finally arrived on the afternoon of the 8th after me making several calls to FedEx and actually going to the delivery station and they called the driver and he agreed to stop his deliveries and come to my house immediately. When I got home there was my box on the porch in a plastic bag because of it leaking. After spending $1400 on the crab legs my main objective was making sure they would be edible. They were thawed, I took them and put them in a new plastic bag and put them in the deep freezer. Tanner asked if they were okay and I told them I would let them know once I take them out to eat them which will probably be next week. Since they arrived a day late my guests did not have the opportunity to try them as they left that morning. I did have insurance so the money wasn't the issue. If you spend $1400 on seafood the least they can do is give you priority shipping. I am very disappointed in Tanner and I will be looking for another company in Alaska to service my seafood needs. They did offer me a $350 credit but I won't be using it.
