Went for lunch just before Christmas, and the entry was so cozy, I didn't mind waiting by the fire for my friends to arrive. Once seated (we luckily had reservations!!) we shared the fried brie app, which was a great start. I ordered the wild mushroom bisque, a rich, delicious meal all on its own... Go for it!! One friend got the butternut squash grilled cheese (looks GOOD!!) and her hubby got the salmon. Everything was GREAT, including our seating in the vault. My husband and I were on a day outing and decided to make the short drive from Fairborn to Tipp City. We love to eat at local restaurants and Coldwater Cafe's menu looked amazing! The first thing we noticed was a the cozy entrance, complete with fireplace. We were greeted and treated promptly and our server, Madison, was welcoming and knowledgeable. We ordered the Nut Crusted Fried Brie as an appetizer. It's served with homemade hot pepper jelly that was sweet with just the right amount of "hot". Our ordered consisted of a cup of Wild Mushroom Soup, which was just amazing! My husband ordered the Chicken Pecan Sandwich and I ordered the Farole Island Salmon on spring greens. Since it was our first visit, and definitely not our last, we each received a complementary, Butter and Sugar Cherry Pecan Mini Bundt Cake. The Faroe Island Salmon Salad was impeccable. Just enough crunch, sweet, and freshness with tender salmon that melts in your mouth. Service is excellent. Leann, one of the adjoining servers ran a block to give a customer his to-go food which he had forgotten. My water was never dry. Ambiance is a warm upscale feel. Been awhile since I was here, but it's just as good as I remember. Possibly the world's best mussels. There were eight of us and everyone was impressed with the food, the service, and the ambiance. It's small town dining at it's finest. It's always filled, so you need reservations. We had an issue getting there, so I called to say we were stuck on the highway and would be late. They thanked me for calling and assured me they would be ready when we got there. It was a birthday celebration, and they had us in a lovely small private dining room. That was a pleasant surprise. Cozy cafe in the heart of Tipp City. Superb food and service. We were in the city for a memorial service and looked for a lunch place. After reviewing the menu the three of us got the daily special - a Reuben. It came with handmade chips. My sister and I opted to substitute the chips with a side of the Lemon Basil Pasta salad. I'm really glad we got the pasta salad. It was fresh lemony and the herbs were delicious. Reuben's wow fantastic. Corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut on a toasted rye bread. Yum! The lunch menu shares some items also available on the dinner menu - but lunch has several features only available for lunch. I shift between the burger, any specials, any salad, the quiche, or my latest addition for lunch favorite: tandoori naan sandwich. The Tandoori Naan Sandwich is delicious. The chicken is delightful, coated lightly in a yogurt sauce seasoned with subtle Indian spices. This is piled on top of a grilled pita along with lettuce, pickled onion slices, and shaved radish. Definitely a knife and fork situation - and definitely delicious. Next time I'll swap out the chicken for the falafel, made in-house. Maybe. My #1 Recommendation is to reserve a table (OpenTable) - this is a popular restaurant and you might be surprised to find they do not have immediate availability during the week. Trust me - it's worth the quick 2- minute effort to reserve a table. The service here is excellent. We always, and I mean always have a great experience. The menu has a nice variety for nearly any preference - and it's a nice problem to have to have a little struggle making decisions. Don't sleep on their mint iced tea, steamed mussels, or the lovely little bread basket (sea salt focaccia). The ambiance is beautiful. The food is well prepared... but the sides that come with most dishes are cheap fillers / carbs and portions are very small. Most of the dishes come with a cup of plain rice. $47 for a small portion of fresh fish and rice is ridiculous. I ordered scallops, there were 3 medium size scallops with risotto which again is rice for $47. The menu states that this meal has an apple, fennel, and marcona almond salad but the waitress said it is not a salad it is a garnish on top of the scallops. I was encouraged to oreder a house side salad which are now priced at $13, no salad is included with any of the meals. If I had ordered a salad with my meal that would have been $60 without any drinks or tip. Unreal!!! read more

Probably one of the best meals I have had in a long time!! Dined on a Thursday evening for my birthday with my parents and boyfriend. My boyfriend and mom had the filet, I had the ribeye, and my dad had the duck. The Bourbon bacon bacon jam was incredible. Perfectly salty and sweet. The steaks were all delicious! tender and flavorful. Our server Jill was very friendly and helped me pick the cherry almond bread pudding with butter sauce and it was fantastic. Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted with a decor that resembled an elderly couples home. Around the mid 1980s. Maybe I was expecting a more updated version of a local small town upscale restaurant. After being overtaken by the decor . I was delightfully greeted by the hostess. After about 15 minutes of waiting for our (wife) reservation we were shown to our table. Our waitress was pleasant and friendly. After looking over the menu my wife ordered wild mushroom bisque and the halibut. I ordered the Caesar salad and Antelope burger with fries. I have ordered an untold number of Caesar salads from many parts of America in my life and this salad was a bit confusing. So much so that my wife upon looking at it questioned whether it was a Caesar salad . I had to look at the menu online to make sure that what was in front of me matched what it said on the menu. It did. Possible my fault for not looking closely at the description of the salad. Upon taking my first bite I couldn't tell if indeed it was a Caesar salad. Tasted nothing like what one would expect. The dressing almost tasted like a pepper ranch. Enough of the salad! The Antelope burger was at best ordinary. Besides it being Antelope. Was dry. Didn't have the flavor I was hoping for. The fries had good flavor but were extremely hot. My wife's wild mushroom bisque that I tried was delicious. My wife found it amazing as well. The Halibut and risotto fell woefully short. The fish was dry and had no flavor. The risotto was undercooked and was rather thick. Didn't have a smooth texture. We wanted to get dessert but were apprehensive due to the underwhelming entrees. To end this review. The price for what we were served was tragically high. There are far better options of restaurants for the price you'd pay at Coldwater Cafe. read more

What a delightful experience! The food, service (Madison rocks!) and venue were a welcome surprise. I worked within 10 miles of Tipp City for five years, but never ventured further than the expressway Exit. Shame on me. We started with the roasted brussel sprouts. The portion was generous and the seasoning was spot-on. The crab cake sandwich was expertly prepared and plated. I am guessing, but I suspect the roll was baked in-house. The homemade chips were fantastic - I appreciate them being lightly salted. My lunch companion ordered the quiche and she said that she will definitely order it again. Will I return? This seems to be a staple in the area. While I had a pleasant lunch here with co-workers, I wasn't close to being as wildly impressed as many. We made reservations and were seated immediately, so that was good. Our server was fine, but nothing special. Not wildly attentive. Their main menu was somewhat limited (the dessert menu was extensive, strangely) and in my opinion, overpriced. Paying $18-20 for a bed of standard mixed greens you get from a bag for a tiny scoop/chunk of protein seemed... Meh. I went with the crab cake croissant sandwich which was tasty and probably the most bang for the buck at my table. I was really looking forward to my crême brulée and it was just, terrible. The top was super burnt (I had to STAB it), got stuck in my teeth, and honestly one of the worst crême brulées I've ever had. I'm embarrassed for them. We love this place, and we LOVE the bread pudding! We had dinner at Coldwater Cafe during this year's Trans Am Nationals car show that takes over downtown Tipp City on a Saturday evening every August. It's become an annual tradition for us, and we always enjoy our meal. The service was great, the place is super cute and clean, the bar menu is interesting and well prepared, and our meals were fantastic as always. We are already looking forward to next year, and will probably sneak over in the fall just for the bread pudding and maybe some tea. Love this local restaurant--it's actually inside the old 5/3 Bank where I opened my first bank account! It gives you the opportunity to dine inside the bank vault. I've been here many times before and some of my favorite dishes here are the quiches and the mussels. On this most recent visit I took my husband because he discovered the greatness of crème brûlée. This place is top notch and sits in a very cool downtown walkable area. I was thinking yesterday as I sat down that they might have the best menu variety I've ever seen. If you can't find something appealing to you I would be very surprised. The shrimp and grits (pictured) was the best version of it I've ever had hands down. Wow. Sometimes all you can say is "Wow". I had made reservations at 11:45 and was seated when I arrived. (There is parking in the back, which I discovered after I had parked on a side street.) I was scouting the place for a date with my wife. Although it was just myself, they sat me at a 4-top. I tried to get another, smaller table, but they took responsibility and sat me at the larger. My first glance at the menu showed one of my favorite dishes, Mussels. However, it has a sauce that contains Sambuca. Black licorice is NOT in my favorite flavors list, but I ordered it just the same. Although their quiche of the day was an asparagus quiche with brie and another cheese I cannot remember, my wife grew up in El Paso, TX, so when I saw the Shrimp Street Tacos I had to give those a chance. Her favorite dessert is Crème Brûlée so that was ordered as well. Although they had mint iced-tea, because they had fresh mint I ordered a mojito. My wife's favorite drink is a lemon drop, but without Limoncello, I asked it that could be done. It could, and one was brought after the mojito. LeeAnn was my waitress, and a wonderful one she was. After I was seated but before anything had arrived, she informed me they had a larger party come in and a smaller table open up and asked if I would mind relocating. I accepted and moved. For the inconvenience they offered me a free something from the menu. I chose the quiche. The mussels were wonderful. The licorice was definitely a member of the supporting cast, but part of a remarkable ensemble. The appetizer could easily have been an entree. I joked about having the sauce poured into a glass. The mussels were great with only two closed. The bread that came with them was toasted and a grand accompaniment. The Shrimp Street Tacos came next, and they were also wonderful. Although they came on flour tortillas (with just a little toasting to them that just enhanced their flavor) corn tortillas are also available, which would be to my wife's preference. The shrimp was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. There was enough heat to register, but not enough to be objectionable by any means. Then again, I lived in Texas for 30 years, so eat at your own risk. Last was the Crème Brûlée. It too was wonderful. A crisp top, not too thick. The creme underneath was perfect and contained flecks of vanilla seeds. During the course of the meal there were visits by two people that were obviously management, making sure everything was satisfactory. They were both very pleasant. I was given the quiche on the way out, but I haven't tried it yet. Yes, we'll definitely be back. And we'll ask for LeeAnn. read more

I made a reservation at Coldwater Cafe for yesterday, not realizing they had changed their menu. While it's always delicious, a couple new standout items. We started with the Brie Focaccia Toast. It was excellent. The saltiness of the prosciutto with the Brie was a great combination. It might be a new favorite. Next up, we both had the soup which was, I believe, called White Bean Chicken Verde. 10/10. I don't even like beans in my soup and it was fantastic. My friend had the filet with shrimp and loved it, as he always does. I had the halibut. I've always laughed at cooking competitions when they go on and on about how something is perfectly cooked, but that halibut was PERFECTLY COOKED. I think my friend had entre-envy because after trying a bite, he went in for another. We finished off by sharing a slice of sugar cream pie which some how got better with each bite. Service is always great at CWC. The food is always timed perfectly so we weren't rushed from one course to another, but we also weren't left waiting. The water carafe was always full. Just stellar. I chose this restaurant for my special birthday lunch and it was an excellent choice! From the moment we stepped in the door, we felt appreciated and special. The hostess was so kind. She took our picture by the Christmas tree and took time to really know us. She passed along to our server that it was my birthday. Our server, Adriana was just as personable. She took time to speak with us. She took excellent care of us. Our booth seating was great. It felt very private. The building is interesting as it was a bank and even has seating in the bank vault. The food was also delicious. I loved my quiche. My husband said his Reuben tasted exactly right but was a bit wet so that effects the bread.
