I've been struggling with a lot--my father passed away less than two weeks ago--and I hoped something as simple as getting ice cream might feel comforting. I showed up an hour before closing. The store was empty. A pale brunette girl took my order. I started to tell her I wanted birthday cake ice cream with a brownie mixed in. I paused briefly, assuming she'd want time to get the ice cream on the slab. She asked if I wanted a lid, assuming I had finished telling her my order. I realized me pausing had likely made her assume I was done. My fault. I said "oh sorry I didn't know if you wanted me to give you the full order in one go" (this is because i mix in up to 6 toppings). Instead, without a trace of patience, she cuts in with an eye-roll of a tone and says, "Yeah...I'm gonna, ya know, make it," It was the kind of remark that flips a switch. I went from trying to be kind and gentle, to feeling stupid for even walking through the door. For what? For pausing mid-sentence? For treating her like a human being instead of barking out a full order like a robot? This was the first real interaction I've had with another person since my dad died. And I was met with sarcasm and passive-aggressive attitude. It cost her nothing to show an ounce of decency. Instead, I walked out fighting back tears. And the kicker? She got the order wrong. I was here recently for my Strawberry Blondie which is my absolute favorite to get here. (Strawberry Ice cream, Graham crackers, cool whip, and I forget what else is in it. I was a Lil sad to see that the staff no longer sings when you tip. This place was one of my Children's 1st job, while he was in high school on the weekends...back then, the staff used to have to sing a song after each tip and I remember going here and tipping daily just to make them sing because my Son hated it due to being embarrassed. I was definitely that Mom who'd dance while they song that jungle to embarrass him. Do they not offer the "gotta have it" size anymore? That used to pair perfectly with the waffle bowl... but it isn't available via delivery. You can certainly get a pint or larger container- but it isn't the same. I usually order that specific size because it fills the waffle bowl & easily splits into 2 'love it' servings or 4 'like it' servings. I've visited the two cold stone locations in Tempe many times because my friends LOVE ice cream. Funny enough all the empty blender containers sat on the counter unused. I'll drive to another location that has better customer service even though it's further. This was a nice visit and all my friends enjoyed the ice cream. The servers were very friendly. However, we were expecting more from the first Cold Stone location ever. From the outside, it looks just like any other Cold Stone, and a tiny plaque by the counter inside was the only thing noting that this was a historical landmark. I pick up here all the time for a food delivery service so i asked one of the employees how long they are open till and she replied 10:15pm every night so two nights later i decide i'd like some ice cream and i show up at 10pm with the front door unlocked, open and sign lit up saying OPEN to which one of their employees tells me they are closed. If thats the case then why is the sign lit up stating you're open and the doors still unlocked for customers? Located on the southwest corner of McClintock Drive and Southern Avenue, this Tempe store is the first location in the Valley to dish up soup from the Manhattan kitchen that inspired the legendary "Seinfeld" character the Soup Nazi ("No soup for you!"). I recommend the shrimp bisque ($7.99). It's creamy with plentiful pieces of mouthwatering shrimp, carrots and peas. The soup is amazing and it comes with a choice of apple, orange or banana, a small piece of bread and a chocolate. I'm sure I don't have to touch to much on the ice cream here.
