Who doesn't love ice cream. Stopped in on a cool summers eve. Hubby was caught up in the caramel apples right away. There is a beautiful display of apples right when you walk in the front door. There is then a great variety of chocolates and then the ice cream! So many choices and colors and mix in options. To you hearts desire. Hubby snagged a caramel apple and had them cut it right there. I asked for a like it, which is the small size of an ice cream. Got no mix-ins but was happy as a kid. The two individuals behind the counter were smiles and happy to help. We pretty much love Cold Stone. First thing we always notice when we walk in, is that the place is pretty clean and tidy. Now, for the good stuff. My wife usually gets the Chocolate Devotion, and I get either a chocolate malt, or like on this most recent occasion, a Granny Smith Caramel Apple with Peanuts. Yep, they'll even slice it for you if you want. There are places to sit outside when weather permits. And ... the restrooms are usually pretty tidy! If you follow me, you know we travel extensively, and I make point of restroom condition in many of my reviews. Just as important as the food the serve. Good job, Cold Stone in Prairie Trail! Stopped in on New Years eve early afternoon for a treat to take home and enjoy over New years. We ended up getting a caramel apple that was a chocolate salted caramel flavor and it was beyond delicious! They are expensive but great as a treat! We also picked up their Holiday MerriMint ice cream cake and wow! I wish they carried it year round, it's layers of red velvet with chocolate ice cream and mint cookie sweet cream ice cream covered in chocolate ganache. So amazing!! Staff was super friendly and everything was spotless. I moved to Ankeny about a year ago. One thing I enjoy is getting some late night ice cream. Each time I go to Coldstone it's normally within the 8 o'clock hour since they close at 9pm. However, literally every time I go, I am met with unwelcoming remarks and eye rolls. It's because these kids are cleaning up and putting everything away an hour before they even close so they're all pissed off when a customer walks in15-30 min before 9pm. Just last night I was greeted with, "what would you like me to make you RIGHT before we close". They were still open for at least 10-15 more minutes when we arrived. I know that because I was being cautious about the time. Seriously, how rude? What's even more annoying is that the product being bought literally takes a minute to make. You scoop up the ice cream, you add the toppings desired, you mix it up then throw it in a bowl. I seriously get a small ice cream with 2 mix ins. It takes less than a minute to make and you use 2 utensils! It's not like the product is something that you have to prep and bake using multiple utensils in the process. I get that these kids are trying to clean up early so they can get out as fast as they can once 9pm hits. I tried to do the same thing when I was in high school and had a similar job. However, one thing that I learned, and one thing that these kids need to learn, is that to provide good customer service is to treat your last customer with the same welcoming attitude as you did to your first customer. Even if your last customer walks in at 8:58pm asking for a milkshake. Treating customers with respect is not a hard skill to learn and these workers need to learn that as it will not only make the establishment more enjoyable to go to but it's a vital skill to have when they become adults and get a full time job. read more

Lazy brat kids working here. Girl suggests adding strawberry to an item so we say sure. She take one single strawberry and sticks it in the middle. Manager is rambling on about what people are suppose to do on his precious break with no attention to his employees nonexistent efforts at quality control. I still go here because it's close to me but I'm never let down because my expectations of service are so rock bottom low. Like my 1 star rating is still 99% too high but it's the lowest allowable rating. read more

Ever want to feel like your holding up the line and being hurried when you just get to the counter? This is the place. The kids have no customer service skills. They just come up and and say " what would you like" and eye roll if you don't say the size you want. I came in here with a family of 5 ( 3kids) And felt as if we were being a problem for trying to figure out what everyone wanted when we just got up to the counter. Then they can't even make what we asked for. Then I pay 35-40 for ice cream. The only reason they get two stars is that the brownie was good. read more

My family biked to the prairie trail coldstone tonight and I was skeptical if I could even order something for myself, as I count calories and needed to keep my treat under 200 calories. I was so impressed with the manager on staff. He looked up the nutrition of the ice cream flavors and weighed out a kids size skinny vanilla for me to order for 140 calories. They forgot to charge me for my child's ice cream and when I pointed it out after I had paid, they said dont worry about it. I appreciated that he didn't treat my request to look up calories as a burden in the mist of a busy night for them. I was so impressed. read more
