Cold Spring Boat Club - Crappiest marina around

Cold Spring Boat Club

The fact that I even have to give this disgusting excuse for a boat club one star is a disgrace…read more Through the years, we have been up here countless times on our boat. The docks have always been disgusting, falling apart and rotting. Their "club" is a bunch of rude drunks sitting under a tent at a picnic table. However, we have always returned because Cold Spring is a beautiful town. They started charging $10 an hour because their "club" can't afford the rent. Today, we walked up, I smiled and said hello to the disgusting drunk that was stumbling toward us screaming about how it's $10 an hour, something we're well aware of not only because we come here often but because their pathetic docks are plastered with ugly signs stating this. I should have immediately called the police as he continued to get closer to us, slurring his words, looking for what I can only assume was a physical altercation. My husband has the parking app but he was on his phone and was on a call, so we stopped and were waiting at the gate leading to the town when the man continued to stumble toward us grumbling about how we were trying to sneak in without paying. I respectfully said that my husband was on the phone and as soon as he was done, he would make the payment on his phone. This is all happening while we are STILL STANDING WITHIN THEIR CLUB GATES. He starts screaming about how they had to kick people out for sneaking in over the weekend. I can say with 100% certainty that no one was trying to get out of paying $10 to dock their boat. The people in this "club" have always rude and nasty however I have never experienced something this pathetic. Clearly this lowlife drunk only finds joy in his pathetic life by harassing visiting boaters. The troll under the bridge has been replaced by a troll under a tent.

This marina is great for local businesses in Cold Spring as well as for boaters. It serves as a…read moregateway between the boating mecca on the Hudson River and the local businesses in the village. This is a smart idea to help boost the local economy. The free guest docking gives me a destination to take my boat and, as a result, I frequent Cold Spring as often as I can during the summertime. Most local marinas don't offer this, and most towns don't have enough attractions to encourage me to dock there. When I take friends out on my boat, the Cold Spring Boat Club is always a primary stopping point. I'll often bring my friends to The Depot, the ice cream shoppe, and sometimes stop in other local businesses. Collectively, between friends and myself, we've easily spent $1,000 at local establishments. All they ask at the boat club is that guests sign in with their boat info and total number of people on board. The marina is a very peaceful atmosphere. The members are friendly, blue collar, and usually spend their weekends out BBQing at the marina pavilion. If I lived a little bit closer, I would definitely keep my boat at this marina.

It's like a Norman Rockwell painting! Cold Spring may be known for many things I don't even know about- but from what hubs and I noticed the short time we hung around, were the many Antique shops and some Art Galleries. And without forgetting their other eclectic collection of shops, restaurants and the most gorgeous looking B&Bs and Inns. There's also a wonderful view of the Hudson and mountains if you go further down to Dockside Park. Homes or businesses here- are located down narrow roads or a little alleyway, that is too picturesque for words. And no, there's no McDonalds! Truth to be told- I loved our Cold Spring detour before heading up to Woodstock, NY- and so glad we did and experience their genuine slice of cuteness.

I really wouldn't mind to move here if i had a job in the area or worked from home! PS. The main street also looks liberal with an enormous rainbow flag and an anti-anti-trump sticker in one of the windows , which makes the vibe even more appealing.

It's an all wood vessel designed after the old sailing sloops. And I must say it's a very good-looking vessel. The crew, which was made up of almost all volunteers, were great and very personable. As part of the trip, we all got to help hoist the sail which was quite the experience. It actually takes a lot of work and people to hoist this massive sail. We sailed in the evening and got to watch the sun set over the city. We were lucky that there was enough wind to get us moving but not too windy that it made the sail rough. We had a such a great time and wished that the sail was longer!

The sloop was hanging out by the Boat Basin off Riverside Park when I wandered in and got to speak to some of the volunteers who work there. They do school tours regularly, but also have tours open to the public and can be hired out for private events. The really cool part is not only do they offer the option to volunteer on the boat, but even if you're paying for a tour you get to actively participate in the actual sailing of the vessel, which takes a lot of work! It's a really unique experience, especially in this city where not many of us really get to interact with boats, much less understand how an older replica like this actually functions. I also got to see and pet some of the wildlife that live in the Hudson, among them a clam. eel, and a little bottom feeder whose name I can't remember. See picture ;)
