A great co-working space in Evanston…read more coLab was probably the best co-working space in Evanston for the price. The price was great especially for the private office. The WiFi was fast. The space was well lit. The toilet was clean. One feedback is the noise isolation between private offices, but that's the problem with other co-working spaces in the area too. In short, I'd recommend coLab Evanston.

Miguel has been nothing but accommodating for my business's needs and I consider him a partner in our success. I had heard of shared spaces but wasn't sure if it would work. I shopped around looking at various shared spaces and decided to go with Co-Lab. It was the best deal out of all the different co-working places. Miguel was very accommodating, loved the idea of having an IT person on site, and was able to set up a space suitable for my type of business. The best part is that I'm saving so much money running my business from here verses renting an office alone and adding up the cost of Internet, Office supplies, furniture, etc. Co-Lab is in a vibrant area with lots of businesses nearby. I've been able to expand my clientele just by being in this location and still maintain my existing clients. My clients even commented on the space, saying that it's such an improvement compared to my old location. They love that we can meet in a professional conference room, complete with white board, and flat screen TV. I no longer have to worry about printer supplies, internet expense, electric bills, high rent, it's month to month, no risk or commitment and the free coffee is a nice touch! It's a full service, state of the art professional office space without the huge overhead of one. If you're looking for a place to run your business, or a cost effective way to begin your start-up, Co-Lab is the place. Miguel has 2 locations, one in the downtown area of Evanston, and the other on the southern boarder, practically in Chicago.

We used it for a graduation party. One of our friends invited us here for a graduation party of her son. It is basically a furnished, non expensive (compared to playrooms) space for renting. You can rent it for a few hours for reasonable price, have an event/party here, bring your own food and drinks, use a TV which is in the room ( many different channels) and enjoy with friends! Very nice space! Don't know how it works when you just want to come here and work for a few hours, but I know you can rent the whole space if you need it. Anyway- Highly recommend!

The office space is clean and modern. I use a flex desk which is fine for my needs. The only concern I've ever had is that if you're not here earlier in the morning - and you need a dual-monitor desk - they fill up fast. I've found the people that share the space are very nice. A few tend to get loud on the phone at times, but no worse than if I were to work at a Starbucks. There are private phone areas as well - so most people use those. The staff is very quick to reply and friendly. I deal with Melissa the most and have found her professional and pleasant. The internet has been slow a few times (as stated below), but I think that's more of an issue with the provider versus this location. In any event, when this happens the problem is always addressed quickly. If you need a break from working at home, I'd suggest trying this out. Co-working spaces/office sharing helped me put more structure around my work day. And made me more productive. Can't complain on that.

This is a nickel and dime operation and when they know they have you under contract, they will take full advantage of it via hidden fees and no transparency. 1. They have a 3 line paragraph hidden within a 6 or 7 page lease that states you have to let them know you are leaving, or the lease will automatically renew. I was supposed to notify them 60 days beforehand, I notified them 45 days beforehand and they agreed, but kept my security deposit. Like I was going to get that back anyway. 2. They billed me $600 to have my phone number and mail forwarded, subject to a signed contract. Something they presented to me the day before my scheduled move out. By the time my attorneys would even read this contract, I wouldn't even need the number forwarded anymore. One would think this would be a courtesy (as it was anywhere else I rented), especially after paying them tens of thousands of dollars of rent over the years. They even wanted to charge us for postage! Nickel and dime 3. After the move out, they charged me $735 for "paint, patch and repair." This was a 100sq foot, single person office with maybe 6 nail holes in the wall to "repair." I calculated it was like $350 an hour to paint an office the size of a walk in closet. So the previous reviewer loves them now, but wait until you have to move out and they charge you to "paint, patch and repair" your office, which is surprisingly going to cost the same amount as your security deposit.

It's a fantastic coworking space for those that are looking for a spot to do work that is well appointed, welcoming and community-focused. Their leadership sets them apart and rather than focusing on squeezing dollars from their membership - they want to build a helpful, strong and welcoming community for everyone. We have private desks which at the current rate is a steal for anything in Logan or other neighborhoods, but public space abounds for those not looking for a private space. There are conference rooms, phone booths and common areas that are all able to be reserved by their online system. I've been to a number of coworking spaces that are either incredibly pretentious or try so hard to be cool and edgy that they lose their purpose. People can actually get shit done here and meet others that are entrepreneurs who can benefit their company. We've added 3 contractors to our company roster simply by being here and they have added to the quality of work our company provides. If you're looking for a space to call your own, get work done and hang out in a wonderful community - Second Shift is the place for you.
