Official date day with my hubs on Sunday mornings. Made to order coffees, lattes, and energy "buzzers," this DC based coffee shop is a total vibe. Starting with genuinely friendly service, Coffee Republic is my favorite local place. The pastries and cakes are in-house made, then heated up to your preference. This week, my husband got his "usual" - 2 vegan energy balls and a Sweet Pea latte on a stairway to heaven (iced matcha latte with lavender ube cold foam. The stairway to heaven is the 4 shots of espresso added). This is from their seasonal spring menu. We also had the apple blossom and my usual, the spinach feta danish (spinach and feta filled puff pastry, warmed of course) and a triple espresso over ice that I poured my salted caramel protein shake over. We sit in the corner on a navy blue couch and enjoy the calm atmosphere. There are comfortable workstations and I have even seen a 40th birthday breakfast celebration! I really wish there was a way to put patio tables and chairs to relax outside on gorgeous days - but for now, I'll keep snuggling on this couch!!!

Super chill place to have some coffee and sweets! Very friendly staff :) I got the Sweet Pea (iced) and it is extremely refreshing and not too sweet where it makes your cheeks curl haha

Gorgeous little bakery and friendly staff! Quippy neon signage and cozy seating areas make this place super relaxing and trendy. This spot has changed ownership several times and I think we finally have a winner. The place is clean, modern, and welcoming. It's a perfect coffee date, study, or work lounge. I loved the cortado and spinach and feta pastry. They do everything from savory breakfast croissants filled with eggs and bacon to vegan energy balls and GF peanut butter bars. Cupcakes, cakes, beignets and all manner of sugar bombs await if that's your thing. I took a Nutella filled croissant home to my family and i know why it was $7.50 - it was big enough for 4 people to share! I will make this spot a regular on my coffee rotation in LKN. I loved it! Fave small detail? Anthony Bourdain's portrait is on a wall of icons including Marilyn Monroe and Einstein... the decorator and I are kindred spirits. ;)

agreeable overhead with cleaner lines, more natural light, and a much larger snack case than the location closer to home but that's where the similarities end. guessing the layout has something to do with 'bakery' being part of the name on the wall here... and it's Cornelius. overall it's much too shiny and Britainy for me and I could do without the derisive jesting about 'Mooresville' coming from the behind the counter (not sure if it's the whole town or just the residents or the MSC store/staff in particular but it's bad from regardless.) my machiatto felt a little light and burnt but the blueberry lemon danish from the case was plenty good; light, flaky pastry plus creamy base topped with blue berries plus a whiff of lemony goodness. probably amazing fresh and hot out of the oven but I'll never know.

Very good local bakery with several things to try. Their main focus is their coffees. We tried a couple pastries which were very good, but a little pricey. Nice for an occasional treat.

To the owner Sharon: Since you are so arrogant and aggressive, wouldn't listen to customers opinions.I would like write down my real experience with you and your store. 1.The cake is very different as what I sent to you.The color is totally different and the mermaid tail is extremely small ,barely could see it.Without the big tail it's just a normal flower cake.It looks just cheesy, not like a 62 dollar custom cake. When I ask you ,you said couldn't see any differences they are exactly the same cakes. You lie and fool your customer. 2.When we went pick up the cake(you said have to pick up the cake before 2pm)we noticed the mermaid tail is broken from the middle and there was no "Happy Birthday"tag as we requested. It took us 50mins long wait (with two little children)for you to glue the tail back. And unfortunately, the tail fell off again a couple of hours later. 3.When we addressed our unhappiness about the color and the pattern of the cake ,you said if we are not happy you can give half refund but we can't not have the cake.SO, why would we pay for you to screw our cake and my daughter's birthday?! 4.The cake tastes way toooo sweet and awful!! Conscience is needed in business, and the costumers are not stupid. If you only play nasty cards, you gonna loose your clients.like me,a customer been booking cakes from Bakery 28 for years.

The staff is always so nice and welcoming! I've never had a bad coffee or food from here and the staff gets to know everyone and their orders like a second family! My favorite place to go to for caffeine and peace! Ambiance is calming, relaxing, fun and bright!

Swedish Princess Cake with a purple instead of green marzipan

Excellent bakery, this is the ONLY bakery we use in town. We also love to support a local and woman owned small business! They carry traditional bakery items, higher caliber items such as domes and petit fours. They always have a selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. Favorite items: ALMOND TOFFEE (incredibly addictive and the perfect not too hard texture) Croissants (plan & almond) Napoleon Cake balls (dangerously good!) Cookie cake The little domes and other little items in the refrigerated display Cookie Yule Log They have hands down the best croissants in town! Some days they sell out very early as it appears not to be a secret. We have had a few specialty items made including a birthday cake for a relative that was a Swedish Princess cake. Even though it is not a listed option on their website Chef Keli was able to whip it up for us with a couple days notice. She even dyed the marzipan to the birthday gal's favorite color :) At Christmas, we ordered a tray of cookies to give to a local vet's office. They totally knocked it out of the park the tray was a perfect mix of many different items they carry cookies, brownies, petite fours. The office we gave it to LOVED it. Chef Keli and her team even created super adorable dog puns to put on the tray. The vet's office employees were passing the box around to take down Bakery 28's info so they could use them in the future. It was a smash hit! Employees are very helpful and friendly. The whole experience and shop is a very happy helpful place.

I love, love, love Bakery 28! This is a hidden little gem tucked into an unassuming strip mall right off of exit 28. The inside of the bakery is very chic and cozy. There's a few small tables and chairs for seating. The long display case has a bunch of tempting treats from cakes and cookies to pastries. They even had some gluten free options! We ordered an almond croissant and were so impressed by the size and quality of the pastry. It had a rich flavor without being overly sweet. Lastly, the pastry was more than reasonably priced (less than $4). It felt like a good value. In addition to pastries, we also tried their coffee. They had a seasonal pumpkin spice latte, which was delicious. Can't wait to come back here.

Cinnamon roll was spectacular, especially warmed. Quiche is highly recommended if you are looking for something without sugar. Love the atmosphere, sleek, fun, modern but also welcoming. Will definitely come back with some work when I need to get out of the house. Service was pleasant and helpful in figuring out what to order:)

Comfy and welcoming foyer. Fresh chocolate croissant and hot tall latte started my day off great. Lots of cupcakes, cookies and even vegan baked goods.

You asked for a bakery in Cornelius. You got a bakery in Cornelius. And if I could describe the flavor well, I would. But I just don't think I would do them justice. After living in Italy and having pastries every morning, I miss that way of breakfast. I tried their almond croissant and their Blondie and coffee. Their coffee is from Black powder coffee... Delicious. The almond croissant just might make you cry. They are still phasing in their opening, so hoping to see some bread from them soon. They do have croissants...fresh, buttery, perfect. (Found this review in my drafts months later...oops)

The birthday girl with her cupcakes! The mini donuts on the coffee and donuts cupcakes looked adorable.

Today is my sister's birthday and all I wanted to do was give her something fun to celebrate the day. I called ahead to make sure cupcakes would be available and the Bakery 28 Team put my mind at ease right away. They had multiple flavors ready to go, Coffee and Vania with a mini donut on top, vanilla with chocolate frosting and oreo crumbles, confetti, even 2 vegan flavors! I was so impressed. They even added a little Happy Birthday cookie topper. I MUST come back to try the macaroons and parfaits. They had a full coffee bar and a great seating area. Once we're through our Shelter In Place orders I'm going back. Thank you Bakery 28 and welcome to the neighborhood!

And nothing in this shopping center is easy to find unless it's the supermarket. Also, while walking, I asked a woman the exact location of the Italian Ice place, she told me, "Around the corner on the left and it will be right there." I ended up at a dumpster behind a brick wall. However, I did not give up, did not get mad at this strange woman (chalked it up to dyslexia), and went in the opposite direction and arrived. This place is super clean, which is expected for a new store but it's a plus nonetheless. The service was excellent and I tried a couple of flavors. That is literal because the ice in the photo was for my son and my ice (forgot to take a picture) was Cherry and Vanilla Chip. I had never heard of Vanilla Chip but it was refreshing. What really popped though was accidentally mixing the Cherry with the Vanilla Chip. This had the strong flavor of the Cherry with the refreshing Vanilla while mixing in chocolate chips. I guess that would be Cherry Vanilla Chip. I can't really think of any negatives. If I'm really reaching, when I first turned to walk in, it's just a white counter wall. Maybe some kind of decoration or a banner there would be more appealing but nobody really cares about a counter wall; they want a tasty ice at a fair price--and they will definitely find that here. Highly recommended!
