Cocotte deserves five stars. Yes, I almost gave them four stars because they're pretty expensive, and the sandwich I got was lacking sparkle. Additionally, their macarons are smaller than the standard/traditional macaron and the structure is off. BUT, most of their pastries ARE some of the best in Charlotte. The chocolate eclair is generously filled with a rich chocolate cream and topped with cacao nibs. The croissants are huge, flakey, and buttery. And the blueberry filling in my cruffin was fresh and delightful. Lastly, Cocotte has good coffee! read more

Lovely vibrant French bakery Iin Cornelius. They have a good sized menu with a variety of sandwiches, quiche etc. They have a large amount of different pastries in their case. I actually went in to buy a Napoleon but there weren't any. I was told they don't make them all the time. I purchased a chocolate eclair instead. Very fresh and quite large. Located across the street from the new Atrium Lake Norman in Cornelius, Cocotte is my favorite bakery - solely due to house made French pastries with an imported French flour and a lovely couple from France. Fair warning, It is pricey but worth it! Their best deal is their sandwiches that includes a side (today I chose the tomato soup with croque monsieur) Food: Tomato soup, while basic, was robust and flavorful. The Canneles de Bordeaux ($3.25) was a rum soaked cake that boast of a custard center ... dearest gentle readers, there was not a custard center a tasted more gummy than like a pastry The croque monsieur was a heat up I was expecting fresh and bubbly like true Croque Monsieur and it was essentially a sandwich that once upon a time had bubbly cheese and crispy bacon. Their best deal brioche it was on was absolutely incredible - soft, sweet, and spongy, but there was a stark temperature contrast to the "ran through the toaster" broiled top. My total after tip was $22.41. (Yes I tipped the staff for an order at the front and carry it to me, which is typically against my principle of no tipping if I have to stand and order but that's a different soapbox) Atmosphere: chaotic, loud. There is a small kiddo section with toys and a couple of arm chairs, 3 or four booths and 3-4 small tables along with outside picnic tables that have umbrellas. I have no idea who created the acoustics of this building but everything seems to echo, so if you're looking for a cozy cafe to get work done - this unfortunately isn't it. They do community events there for those who love to speak French or want to learn and improve on their French and are a part of Goodie bags app so if you can snag one of their deals - that's a fantastic way to support them! They are open Weekdays 7-3 (closed tuesdays) and 8a-3p on the weekends. Finally, they have paired with other local coffee shops to have their pastries for sale I would have paid the same (if not more!) for similar items at Panera (prepackaged, overpriced hospital food IMO) so I will hands down continue to support local, freshly made ingredients. Great bread and pastries. And soup so good. I usually stop in for lunch ( closed tuesdays) for a sandwich and soup. Priced a little higher than area lunch spots, but soooo good. I always tray and fail to resist the lure of pastries in the case. Fast service at counter. Sometimes hard to find a spot to sit. Place is usually filled up with people sitting comfortably and chatting. Cute place; a couple picnic tables out back are usually open. read more

A great experience for a Saturday morning visit. It was very busy and understandably so. The pastries were excellent. The bread is delicious and the breakfast and lunch much options looked amazing. My order was to go and I would have liked to have stayed but I decided it was too busy. If I lived in the area I would be back for the bakery experience but I did not like my French Kiss latte. It tasted like a really sweet watered down coffee. Perhaps their other offerings are better and I'd try them if I go back but that would not be the main reason to go back. French pastries.. yes. We had such a confusing first experience. We walked in, looked at the handheld menu, decided what to order. We waited in line, lady in front of us had to order like 20 pastries, so the wait was long. Get to the front, say we want a croque monsieur. Guy says it's the last one. This is when we realize the sandwiches are all pre-made, which was disappointing. I asked if the 6 sandwiches in the wire rack behind him were all that were left: yes. Bummer because what I wanted wasn't in that case. I order an everything croissant. We read on the menu that soup is only Friday-Sunday and we came on Monday, so bummer. Our sandwiches get cut and heated up in a toaster oven(?). The croque is a bit soggy from being premade and nuked. The croissant is actually pretty good, but we imagine better fresh. To our surprise, we notice someone at the counter getting soup, so I hop back up to get in line. Nope. Out of soup now. I also notice this person had a cold sandwich I wanted. I asked her and she points to a case upfront that has other sandwiches. Another bummer. The pastries look lovely, but after a disappointing and confusing experience, we had zero desire to spend more money. Unfortunately, we won't be making a second return. We'd rather drive to Amélie's and get freshly made sandwiches and an easier experience. read more

My husband and I were very excited to finally have a French bakery in the area, and we waited until after their soft opening before giving them a try for breakfast. It's a little confusing for first-time orders. There's a staff member who takes your order, but she doesn't input orders into a register, so you need to repeat your order to pay with another person. We ordered the Quiche Lorraine, breakfast sandwich (with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese), apple tartelette, and two small lattes (each with an extra shot of espresso). The quiche and sandwiches are premade and kept in a case behind the register, so your food is ready very fast. My only issue with this method is that both our quiche and the breakfast sandwich were only slightly warm. They could have benefitted from a warm-up in the microwave before delivering them to us. That said, everything was delicious. The quiche slice was generous, and it had plenty of onions and cheese. It came with a side of choice, and I had the fruit. I would have preferred that the onions be more cooked in the quiche, as they were still crunchy. The breakfast sandwich was both of our favorites. The croissant was fluffy, yet still very crispy. It was also generously filled. The apple tartelette had a thick crust and not a lot of filling, but the crust was still very good. Our lattes were also very good, and a very reasonable price ($5.50 each). All told, we enjoyed our meal, and will return. read more

Wonderful place to grab breakfast! This morning I had my first experience at Cocotte. Our order was the Saint Germaine sandwich, the breakfast croissant, and two drip coffees. The sandwich was spectacular on a wonderful crusty baguette. It wasn't heated up and made fresh about two hours before I came in most likely, so it wasn't soggy as others mentioned. It was wonderful. The flavor was very savory. My grandmother was very pleased with her breakfast sandwich! Big, flaky croissant with fluffy eggs! The coffee was not weak and I enjoyed it. Creamer was offered as a self-serve from a pitcher. It certainly felt better than opening 9 creamer cups between two people. Free water was offered at the end of the line, too. So, no waiting for a refill. I also got two pastries to go-- both were spectacular. Sweet in a savory and memorable way, rather than being over-the-top and masking fake-y ingredients with sugar like many places do. The bakers do a wonderful job. Despite the crowd and line, the employees moved quickly and kindly. Pleasantries were still exchanged and things made-to-order were out in a timely manner. The people here work very hard. It's a hectic job but they do it well and they do it without sacrificing small niceties or helpfulness. The interior was nice, too. Tables were kept clean and there was a nice area for little ones to occupy themselves while parents enjoyed their drink and meal. Books, some plushies, and pretend-play toys were there. No tablets or items that could make them hyper. I very much enjoyed my experience after a hard night and morning. Thank you to everyone that works at Cocotte for showing up and staying kind. With tip, for two people you can expect to spend around $35. Not a terrible price for a great brunch experience with great environment + people. I recommend 100%. I've been here twice and both times have easily been the best experiences I've had at a cafe in Charlotte/ surrounding region. I came for breakfast on a Saturday, and though it was packed the service was speedy. We got the Breakfast sandwich as well as a few pastries. Although the sandwich stays in a warmer and is premade I promise it is just as good if it were made fresh. The croissant is still soft and flaky, the eggs aren't dried out, and the overall flavor is just so good!! I also have come for lunch and got the Saint Germain sandwich. Wow!! So happy they use fresh turkey and not pre-sliced deli meat. It was incredible. I really love this cafe and will make it a point to stop by anytime I'm in the area. read more

A French bakery that actually has real French tasting goodies. It's been so hard to find in NC on my travels . Finally lucked out here! Stopped by on a Sunday in my way to charlotte. Wish they had an actual sign on their building but they don't just so you know. The place was packed for breakfast/brunch. They have a nice menu for sit down or take out. Sandwiches and pastries and charcuterie. Breads to go , delicious desserts . Ample room in store for seating but it was packed even then. They have a nice French vibe. Lots of merchandise on sale too as well as the food. I got some things to go . The eclairs were amazing and l had the chocolate and the almond. The passion fruit cube croissant I bought for a friend and she loved the shape and the taste. Nice and buttery and flaky. I took home the almond croissant and the pain au chocolat. These were north amazing. So buttery and each layer stayed crisp til the next day. We air fried it a few mins and it was perfect. The pain au chocolat was my absolute fave. Airy and flaky with really good quality chocolate. You have to try this if you go. I am definitely going back to eat in store. I wish their hours were longer but I guess 3pm it is. I will make it work somehow! It's not cheap but the quality speaks for itself. Worth the $$$. Excited for an actual authentic French bakery ! read more

However, the gluten free cupcake was so atrocious that I had to take off a star. This is like visiting France without a passport. You can taste the difference between French ingredients from France and French bakery made with American ingredients from Food Supply. The croissants are flaky, airy and melt in your mouth. The baguettes are crispy crusts with pull apart soft touch dough on the inside. We ordered the Mont Blanc Yule Log Cake for Christmas (French Chestnut Crème with marscapone and white chocolate ganache and it was worth every penny paid. You eat it with the intention of enjoying every bite. We have spent the year eating our way through their menu (see my review for the local EMS gym!! Ha!) This place is amazing. I love their white chocolate mocha coffees and their holiday peppermint white mocha - it's surprisingly not over-sweet so they get their coffees right too. At other coffee shops I have to ask for half the pumps but at Cocotte their coffee recipes are perfect. From salads to sandwiches, quiches to eclairs - I'd give everything 10 stars if I could. The Owners are from France. Super nice. Their staff is well trained and extremely courteous !!! Dine in or pick -up. We love the pick up so we don't have to wait in line but if you do find a long line upon arrival, it's worth the wait and it does move quickly. It's wonderful to have a French bakery in the area. I stopped in on a Sunday morning and it was very busy which is a good sign. However, the service was a little chaotic when it came to ordering and it appeared they were out of a lot of items. I'm not sure if they refill them throughout the day but they were pulling multiple signs of items indicating they were not available. The items I was interested in were available which was good news! The chocolate croissant was lovely- not too sweet and flaky how it should be. The sweet bee latte was nice which has honey and cinnamon. The drip coffee was not strong and tasted watered down. We did get this iced so I think the hot just melted the ice and it wasn't as strong as it should be. I also picked up some macaroons for a gift and they look delightful! The madeleines are light and moist but pricey at $8 for 3. We will return for a special occasion due to the pricing of the items but it is a lovely spot! read more

This place is a hidden gem. The second you walk in the door it feels like you're in France. The bakery items are impeccable, delicious and a piece of art. I brought an in law, who was raised in France, who was visiting from out of state. She was like a giddy school girl in the bakery. She even said they had the best macarons she's had outside of France. The only down sides: get there early on the weekend or items will be sold out and seating is very limited. read more

We love this local bakery! I am there 2 times a week for fresh sourdough and baguettes. Try to go early in the morning and you can get a loaf that is still warm. If you go later in the day, items are sold out and the display case will look sparse. Usually, I try to stick with only 1 or 2 treats to take home....but sometimes leave with a box of items. We enjoy that some items are rotating so you may see new items every couple of months. Lucky to have a place like this so close instead of having to drive into the city! read more

So disappointing. Our 4th visit. Never been special but the bread and flan were good. Today was a disaster. The blond lady behind the counter was simply demeaning and outright rude. I walked out but my wife stayed to complete the order. After she wish she had walked out too. Buying what we could, the service with a smile was not existent. It was bad service with attitude and sarcasm . We did tip and left wishing we had not bought or left a tip. But we stay correct. Shame. Would have been nice to have a local great bakery. read more
