Unfortunately this was a pretty disappointing visit to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. The biggest issue was the speed of service. It took much longer than expected just to get a basic order, even though it didn't seem especially busy. Waiting wouldn't have been as frustrating if the experience at the counter had been a bit more welcoming, but the service felt pretty unfriendly and rushed. The environment also didn't leave a great impression. The space felt a bit dirty and grimy overall, especially around the seating and counter areas. When a café is somewhere people want to sit and relax, cleanliness really matters, and this location could definitely use more attention there. Hoping this was just an off day, but based on this visit it's hard to feel excited about coming back. read more

I'm usually more of a Starbucks girl, but when you're traveling, you take what you can get. I came here around 11:30am on a Wednesday, and it wasn't all that crowded. There was only one person in front of me in line, and after I placed my order I only waited 5 minutes or less to get my drink. I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk. Unlike Starbucks, Coffee Bean uses pre-sweetened matcha powder instead of sweetening it with syrup, so unfortunately you cannot adjust the sweetness level here. But I tasted it and luckily it wasn't cloyingly sweet. It was a bit sweeter than I am used to but still good. My barista was friendly and polite, which you don't always get at the airport, so I appreciated that. read more

My simple coffee took forever and there was zero sense of urgency, even with a growing line of impatient travelers. Absurdly expensive, even for an airport. Los Angeles has some of the best coffee spots. But coffee at LAX always sucks. Why? Why is that?? Since I always take an early flight, I needed some caffeine before boarding since I don't really drink juice or soda when they roll down the aisle with the drink carts. At the last minute I decided to get an iced tea latte w/oat instead of coffee. You can't go wrong with a drink like this, right? Just looking at it I knew it was not going to be good. Took one sip and it was watery like it was made with a tea bag. Also got a PB&J sandwich. The bread was not soft. Each mouthful was a whole lotta bread vs the peanut butter and jelly. I had to force myself to take a decent couple of bites so I wouldn't be hungry on my 5 hour flight home. This CBTL location is a life saver since there aren't many other beverage locations here in the terminal. This location is right in terminal 5 and they have your array of drinks. Everything is fairly standard here in this tiny location but they seem to make things work here. There are a lot more packed items where you can just grab and go which makes it easier if you're going on a plane. I didn't order a drink this visit but I did buy a bottle of water. The lady in front of me ordered a cup of water and she was charged for it, so just a heads up for those that were expecting free water. The line can get kind of long sometimes due to all passengers here I really like their tea lattes that other competing chains don't have. Their espresso and coffee overall taste better too. However, if it's during the holiday/fall season their pumpkin spice doesn't taste as good in comparison. The only good thing was a short wait of 5 mins or so, after that everything was downhill. The girl taking my order looked half asleep, seriously leaning on her hand, barely repeating my order back to me. I tried paying with a gift card and they don't take them. I was happy to see there was a specialty coffee shop close by my terminal since I wasn't in the mood for my usual black coffee. But this is the first specialty coffee shop I've ever been to where there were employees that just didn't seem to like their job. So let's begin. My review is based on my experience on 9/5/2023 approximately at 1400. Tucked away in Terminal 5 is where you will find The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. This is a small coffee shop, clean in appearance, with a spacious waiting line area. The line wasn't too long and moved at a fair pace. My first employee contact was pleasant. A young gentleman helped me select my order, a hot cookie latte regular size. He was helpful and friendly. I waited on the side for my drink to be made with the other eager customers. My drink was called out, but I noticed very quickly that my order was wrong since it was an iced drink instead of a hot drink. I brought it to the Barista's attention, but she didn't apologize or tell me a new drink would be made. She just left with without saying a word. Then shortly after another Barissta approached the counter. She didn't ask me if there was an issue with my order or say hello or even greet me. She just stood there. So I tried to explain to her my order was wrong. She asked for my receipt, which I provided and confirmed I ordered a hot drink. She took the drink back without saying another word, no apology, and not even telling me if she would remake my drink. So this was terrible customer service twice in a row under 5 minutes. I would mention the 2 barristas names, but the 2 young ladies did not have visible name tags. So my drink finally comes out and the young lady leaves it on the counter for me, still with no apology for their mistake. So I could've let this go as we all have our days when we don't feel so awesome at our jobs, but my drink was absolutely terrible. It tasted nothing like cookie butter, and I don't think she even used oatmilk or it was maybe spoiled. Something just wasn't right as it had a very strong bitter taste. And I am not talking about coffee bitter taste (I also enjoy drinking my coffee black). This tasted like a mixture gone wrong. So I head back to the coffee shop and speak with the lady manager. I didn't get her name, but informed her of my experience. She offered me a replacement drink. And if I didn't like it, she would give me a refund. She also told me she would make the drink personally. I agreed to her terms. She made my replacement drink, which I chose a macchiato with oatmilk instead. She made my drink as promised, had me taste test it, apologized, and sent me on my sorta merry way. I didn't catch the manager's name, but I was grateful for how she handled the situation. The price of my drink ofc was expensive as expected for a business locted inside the airport. The cost of my original drink was $9.47. From reading other reviews, it seems like I wasn't the only one who experienced terrible customer service at this location. I hope the manager sees this review and has a talk with her staff, in particular the barristas that were working that day, regarding customer service and the power of a simple smile. Smiling is such a small gesture with a huge positive impact. And an apology for making a mistake wouldn't hurt either. I don't know if my drink tasting terrible was an isolated incident. So my only tip is to try your drink before you leave the pick up counter. read more

The line for this Coffee Bean was crazy long, but I was in the mood for coffee and had a lot of time to kill before my flight so I decided to wait. It took around 30 minutes from when I got in line to when I received my order, so it was a very long time but wasn't too bad if you consider how many people there were. I went with a Peppermint Mocha Cream Cold Brew. It was pretty good -- not overly sweet and the peppermint, mocha and cold brew flavors really came through. It's been a hot minute since I've been to a Coffee Bean, so I decided to get some coffee here for old time's sake. The line was rather long, but the terminal was pretty busy that evening, so this was not too much of a surprise. I ordered an iced black coffee. I got my coffee in a short amount of time, I added some creamer, and I was on my way. I sipped on my coffee, but it did not taste too well. It had a burnt taste, and I'm pretty sure this coffee was prepped many hours ago, or the day before. You cannot expect quality here. Not only because Coffee Bean quality has gone downhill over the years, but because they're charging airport prices. For those who have followed my Yelp for years, you know I have no issue splurging on quality, but there is such a thing as overpaying for something that is not up to par. One of the silver linings to their coffee is that it did get me wired. But they could at least make fresh coffee rather than the crappy tasting coffee they served me that day. They had your basics....coffee, tea and pastries. I went with an iced chai tea. The flavors were very chai like, and refreshing too. Aromas of clove and cinnamon were wonderful. Smelled yummy too! They don't use "big" ice cubes....so you get more liquid than ice. My friend commented on how they have "good" ice cubes. It was shredded ice...but still in cube form. They only have "medium" and "large" sizes for drinks. My medium chai cost almost $6. Service was friendly. read more

I reserve one star ratings for things like scams and food poisoning, and this place wasn't _that_ bad. But it was bad. First problem is pretty common for 2023: they're understaffed and the lines are long. The one employee on duty when I was there clearly hates her job, or at least hated it that day. Yes, we know it's a drag to be a barista in an airport terminal, but in a customer facing job you're supposed to put on at least a fake smile. I was stuck in LAX for five hours due to a canceled flight and _I_ managed to put on a smile. And if you're an actor just trying to pay the bills while you're out on strike, that scowl is not a good advertisement for your acting career. Anyway, all I wanted was hot water in my own steel mug, so I could make tea in a flavor they chain stores never stock. I had money ready for the tip jar. Sorry, it's $1.50, even for a customer cup. Was that Ms Hates-her-job being obnoxious? Probably not; she didn't seem _that_ cranky. Was it some misguided health policy? My cup never would have touched their hot water tap. Was it company policy to extract money from every customer? Most likely. Give Ms Hates-her-job a gold star for standing up for her corporate masters. They wanted that buck and a half more than they wanted me or her to smile. Anyway, since I wasn't desperate for caffeine, I walked away. What about ambiance? It projects an air of, "If you want caffeine before your flight starts beverage service, you're our prisoner. You pay prison commissary price or you're out of luck." They could have at least tried for, "Let's pretend you're in your favorite coffee and tea shop back home, instead of layover limbo." It's kind of pointless to review a shop where customers are trapped. But maybe I'll get some laugh reactions. read more

This rating is based on the store in Terminal 5 NEVER having products stocked. I work in the area and everyday for weeks now they have not had espresso in stock. Cashier usually says "the only thing we have is brewed coffee nothing else" I watch others walk away everyday because the items on the menu are not available. It's ridiculous at this point. PLEASE fix this issue, I hate having to walk to the next terminal (6) for your competitor STARBUCKS. Anyone reading this might need to head to terminal 6 for Starbucks because this CB is understaffed and severely under stocked. read more

After spending 25 min in wait I got the world's sweetest caramel latte. It was soooo sweet you could literally see the drizzled caramel floating in it minding its own business. When I approached and asked it to be fixed and was told that I need to go through the wait again. I understand that it's not easy to work at the location this busy, but if something is done wrong you need to fix it immediately, not send someone for another 25 min wait.
