This Starbucks coffee shop is small, located inside California Plaza. There's seating outside and all throughout the plaza where you can enjoy a treat, meal, snack, afternoon pick me up. They open early at 4,30 am. They have a sign claiming they are closed during Saturdays and Sundays but they open in the afternoon around 5-6 pm during Grand Performance shows. My husband got a lemoande to cool us off, called the Dragon. Decent, nothing spectacular with too much ice. Service just OK. Overall an OK option for the area, although there's others further up the plaza. This was my Starbucks experience for a while, don't frequent it much. read more

Starbucks on Grand in CAL Plaza is steps from my office, my yoga studio and other stops I frequent. Have been a customer here since they opened and this is my first way overdue review. Upon reading other reliable Yelpers reviews, evidently bad service is pervasive here resulting in negative experiences for customers. First off, I don't make it a habit of posting negative reviews, but when I witnessed bad business practice of deliberate rudeness, unprofessionalism and complete ineptness, this negative rating warranted it and should really be rated as a negative -5. Witness to an employee being humiliated by the store manager in public; both were Hispanics/Latinos(trying to be PC here) and the degrading comments from the tall male 'manager' towards the male employee was bad, humiliating and unnecessary. Being fluent in multiple languages, I understood every embarrassing word expressed. It was crowded and I had an appointment. I felt bad and should have said something for the employee being publicly reprimanded, instead I composed a letter to Starbucks corporate and reported this incident. SBucks Corp never replied or acknowledged. Sbucks too big to fail attitude has left a bad taste for many, self included. Since witnessing this and countless other incidents, I Have made a conscious effort to patronize other coffee brands and I am NOT alone. It's a good thing Barista Society and Morsels are close by and offer better coffee, tea and service. This Starbucks is almost unavoidable for me to pass by. Occasionally, I have gone inside to see if the same manager is still there, sadly he is. Bad management fosters unprofessionalism, bad behavior and bad attitude exhibited by the staff. Most of the people who work here seem unhappy and their service is almost always horrible, rude and unprofessional. This manager and the entire staff needs Corp training ASAP, he and his staff are a liability and I sense Legal will be involved. read more

Got here at 2:38pm today and you can tell that the partners were brand new. That's alright though because they're still getting used to it. The issue I had was that we ordered just a green tea lemonade and when I asked the barista working on the espresso side. He kept saying, "it's coming up" and then immediately kept working on his drinks. Someone else asked about the drink they ordered and he gave an excuse that the fridge wasn't working. Would give zero stars if possible. I'm a huge Starbucks fan and ordered a coffee and asked for half and half. They no longer have it out and I asked the barista. She gave me a very small amount and when I asked for more told me I would have to pay for it. They used to always have the cream out and this service was so rude I will never be back. MONICA (an employee here) needs an attitude-check and maybe some standard training in being a polite and respectful human being. Went on my daily run around the city and pre-ordered a drink here. I do not wear a mask when I'm running in 87 degree heat. I pre-ordered and I waited outside for my drink while it was being made. The area from door to counter is about 4 feet and not congested, as it's a walkway. I thought I saw my drink so I stepped inside and Monica immediately barked at me to wear a mask. Lady, I'm not harming anyone, there's absolutely no one around, and it's literally an arm's length to grab my drink from inside. It wasn't my drink so I stepped back outside. She came outside to scold me and yell at me that I needed a mask and to not come inside. She deliberately put my drink to the end of line, as well. Talk about discrimination... What a great Starbucks location! Located in a little food court center off of Grand Avenue in Downtown, I discovered this location while I was taking a stroll. To my surprise there is so much outdoor seating and a beautiful view of a pond, and if you go up a level, you reach the entrance to Angel's Flight! The baristas here are also incredibly sweet, they are always very upbeat and strike up great conversation! The coffee is also consistently amazing quality! read more

I've been working in the 2Cal building for over a year, and I can say without a doubt that I LOVE THIS STARBUCKS. Everytime I come here (which is basically everyday), the employees are amazing. Sal is the best and remembers my complicated drink order, even when I forget it sometimes! Demaris (probably butchering that), Tobi, and all the other staff are super friendly and lovely too. They are consistent with the quality of the drinks they make, and that is not easy with the massive amount of order they get during morning/lunch rushes. They're also so good about fixing drinks if you don't like it or want to change it. I'll definitely miss this Starbucks when I am no longer working at this building. read more

Recently Los Angeles has a new law. Plastic straws are not allowed to be set out on the counter, if you want one you have to ask. I purchased a cold drink. I asked. I asked. I asked. I asked. The Barista ignored me. Another worker got me a straw when he saw the Barista ignored me. I did not write the law. I am certain this new law is a giant pain in the ass for the staff. It has become a giant pain in my ass, too. I just wanted a straw. And, I have no plans of carrying around my own straw or ripping the top off the drink and trying to drink it straight from the cup with ice flowing over the side. read more

Considering its business hours to be limited compared to many suburban Starbucks, this location does what it can for the company. Also, this location is not for those who wish to park nearby and come into the store. Upon my second visit here, the barista became confused as to what I wanted. It took a while to get the drink, but I noted there was a long line here after I arrived. That to me thinking that, perhaps, this location typically has long lines during the day. This is a review of Starbucks' baked goods. (I just gotta get this out of my system.) Two of Starbucks' baked goods that I tried are unpleasantly too sweet. I've had their Banana Nut Loaf from a branch on Olive corner 12th, I think . . . it doesn't matter. Bottomline, I had their Banana Nut Loaf months ago from another branch. And it was unpleasantly too sweet. And today, I had their Pumpkin Bread at this branch. Also unpleasantly too sweet. I wish I had tried the Market Cafe across the street or tried Coffee Bean . . . hmmm not sure if it's around here. Starbucks' baked goods = no good. Stopped by at this Starbucks while in downtown today. It's a pretty slow Starbucks. The guy at the register was friendly enough - he made a mistake on my order, forgot the no sweetener request. No worries. I went up to the counter to see if I could get my drink fixed. The barista crystal was either having a bad day or just not very friendly. We made eye contact but she ignored me. I stood there for a couple minutes and decided to speak up. I asked if I could have my drink made unsweetened and she gave me a bit of attitude but remade the drink. Please be VERY careful at this Starbucks location if you have a severe food allergy. One of the baristas put the wrong milk in my iced latte even though I told them specifically soy because I have an ALLERGY. My experience when I went back to talk to the store was not good. I spoke with the manager, and the entire time I was telling him my situation and how badly this could have turned out (gone to the hospital, could have sued, all very valid) if I had not had my medicine with me, he was oddly smiling the entire time. Leaving a second review bc my visit this morning was almost...comical. I came in and asked if they had restocked their vanilla bean scones as they were sold out yesterday but didn't realize this until AFTER charging me and then sheepishly apologizing. They still did not have them in stock and I've realized whoever does the ordering for this store is just dumb. This location is often sold out of food, and the employees never seem to know when they'll be restocked. I completely agree with all the other reviews that say this store needs to retrain or just rehire their employees. Today I order a bagel with cream cheese. Thus I said "can I please get a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese". The cashier rings me up and then says "do you want any cream cheese?" Like what in the actual heck...I JUST said I did. Either way, not a huge deal. I order a venti iced water as well. I go to wait for my food and it comes out after 5 minutes. Bagel is lukewarm, and my water still hasn't arrived. Like my last review, this Starbucks doesn't prioritize water like they should. The barista apologized and said they were having issues with the water (not sure what she meant). After that, she picks up another cup and attempts to read it. She runs over to the cashiers bc it's indecipherable and leaves my cup of ice sitting there. THEN some random kid whom I'm going to assume is a Starbucks employee coming in for his shift comes up and starts pouring my water. How sad is that that either a friend of the barista or an employee not on his shift yet had to do this. Shame on this Starbucks, the training provided to these employees is lackluster and management should really be scrutinized. I do hope they eventually read these reviews as I'm sure it would blow them out of the water. read more

The people here are so friendly and it's always very clean and has a nice atmosphere. Furthermore, they are FAST! But for an entire week of different people making me the same drink it has become very clear that, while the cashier makes sure my order is correct when she takes it, NO ONE reads the details on the beverage they're making. And I only ask for one thing--very light on the caramel. It's really not that complicated of a request that no one who works here can't comprehend it. They just have to look, and they don't. So my drink always has half an inch of caramel sauce on the bottom and I can't drink it. I will ask them to make it again if this continues to happen. read more

Don't do it! I ordered a sugar free hazelnut frap made with coconut milk, and the guy who took my order got it wrong, so the barista made it with the regular hazelnut syrup. When I told her about the mistake she made it for me again, but this time with regular milk. Unfortunately, I didn't discover this until after I drank it due to the aftermath (I am lactose intolerant - anyone else who is knows how bad this can be). Never going here again. the nonfat latte gave me the runs :( also, i notice that their menu is poorly placed. Mostly blocked by the machines when you are standing in front of it, and standing in front of it means you're on the exit side of the store. I'm not sure about what people are complaining about... They are busy? Yes well most Starbucks are, get over it. Sal runs a very tight ship over there. Baristas are all encouraged to know regulars drinks and names by heart and they do a pretty darn good job of it. They have a small space to work with and they really try and make the most out of it. My drink has been wrong "maybe" twice in the 5 years I have been working in the building and both times it has replaced with an apology and a smile. Can't ask for more :) read more

Yes, it is the green star.... not my choice of record. What does this place good is the location in the watercourt plaza and the good sunning you can get when chilling with your mocha. Being next to PWC & Deloite you get a business crowd with the A typical rushes. Staff is normally atentive and willing. Keep your eyes open for Miss Duck in the elevated pond over Olive st, she hatches every year there and raises her ducklings. In winter Cal plaza sets up a choochoo train to run over the water. read more

After picking up lunch over at Mendocino Farms, we decided to get our caffeine pick-me-up's for the afternoon. Out of convenience, we stopped at Starbucks. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but there weren't exactly any other options for us to choose from. I went with my usual order--a chai latte. They weren't too heavy on the chai syrup, something that's all too common when ordering the short size. The baristas here aren't the most personable. During the lunchtime rush, they were all pretty much focused on taking orders and making drinks. I guess efficiency and speed trump customer service at this time, probably a wise move considering their usual clientele includes a number of office workers, a sort sometimes prone to grumpiness without their routine coffee breaks--I speak from personal experience in this matter! read more
