Superb coffee cafe in the heart of El Segundo with a ton of charm, great service and good coffee; not the best I've ever had but good and worth the stop. If you've got some downtime before picking people up from the LA airport and feel like waiting in a relaxing environment then I strongly suggest coming here. It was an 8 minute drive to the main terminal. Parking was a little tricky although try parking in the backside of the building as there's also a back entrance to the coffee shop. I'm a regular here most of the time but I also come here prior to work alongside my coworker before we start at 7am. And it's always a toss up whether we're gonna have a good experience or not. There are times where everything goes smoothly. But days like today seem to be the norm: where the morning crew are too grumpy to engage and rather drink their own coffee before asking if there is a problem. Unlike the afternoon, the workers don't announce the orders are ready and none of the orders have the names of who the order belongs to. Today was the worst experience ever and we won't be coming here before work. The matcha latte my friend order was rushed when the barista realized she never made the order and it tasted so bad. Decent food, decent coffee, nothing special. But the wait is always ridiculous. There will be 3 people in front of you at 8am yet you somehow are stuck waiting for over 30 minutes. Hey owners: figure out a better ordering system so people who just want a scone and a quick drip coffee can get in and out quickly. I tried the blue butterfly tea latte and honestly it wasn't for me. I guess it tasted how it sounded like. A blue blended tea beverage with milk and rose but I couldn't taste any rose. Each one looked delicious. One of my coffee-loving friends ordered an ice white mocha with strawberry cloud foam. She really liked it and would give it a 4.5/5. My friend who doesn't really enjoy coffee ordered the strawberry cloud matcha. She gave it 5/5 and said "solid matcha." Was in the neighborhood with a friend and walked to Blue Butterfly one early Saturday morning. The coffee shop was bustling and there was a line to order, but they were turning out drinks, pastries and hot dishes in a very timely manner. It's a cozy little cafe with a brick aesthetic. Their vast selection of pastries are displayed behind a thick layer of glass on the counter. They offer outdoor seating and there is a whole other section of seating next door when the main cafe is crowded. My friend recommended the espresso dul'sal, which is made with Black Lava Sea Salt, and my kiddo got a blueberry-ube kouign amann (not sure of the exact name). Both the drink and pastry were delicious; the espresso was so creamy and the sea salt cut through the sweetness, and there was real ube inside the pastry. This quaint tea/coffee stop has it all. Fine bakery and great selection of hot and cold drinks. For me, I'm just a black ice tea drinker...boring...but they have an extensive drink menu for those of you that have desires of the fancy stuff. Ice tea for me 24/7. For food, make sure you look at the entire menu because you'll regret...like I did by just looking at the baked goodies. A ceiling vent was blasting cold air directly down on me, and when we moved to the neighboring building for additional seating, both the front and back doors were wide open, creating a pretty intense cross breeze. Wow--the vanilla latte here was incredible! It had the perfect balance of creaminess, sweetness, and rich coffee flavor. The avocado toast was generously layered with some of the freshest slices I've ever had from a café, and every bite tasted just as vibrant as it looked. The pastries were fantastic as well--especially the classic croissant, which was perfectly flaky, buttery, and simple in the best way. I also love that their coffee beans are roasted locally at their roastery just down the street--it's the perfect take-home treat if you want to bring the Blue Butterfly experience with you. So good, and so fun--it's the kind of drink that makes you happy just looking at it. The coffee's great too, so honestly you can't lose. But here's the thing that actually got us. The staff was warm and genuinely helpful--the kind of people who make you want to stick around. So we did. The tall male cashier was rude from the moment I approached the counter. I absolutely LOVE Blue Butterfly Coffee (food, drinks and customer service) but their speed (or lack there of) on making drinks and food leaves something to be desired. I'm no restaurateur so would venture to assume that their small kitchen/prep stations lead to some of these awkwardly long wait times for something as simple as avocado toast, but they always seem amply staff and all customers have just come to accept the long as heck wait times. They've opened up an entire seating space next door which has helped the crowds in their OG space. I brought my parents here who were visiting from out of town (despite the wait times) because it is truly a cute little neighborhood breakfast and lunch spot. The penguin latte had a salty cold foam on top and a rich sweet coffee underneath. When mixed together it was creamy and not too sweet. The mocha was not too strong and sweet, tasted almost like a hot chocolate. The pastries do sit out under a glass covering but sometimes bugs fly near them. It is a nice place to study/work inside or out back, or even next door (Lots of seating). Out front is good to have conversations. all the staff is very nice and usually everyone is local. read more
