I wish I had read the reviews here before signing my kid up for camp. In Feb 2023, I signed my 8 yr old up for 2 weeks of summer camp in July 2023. I signed him up to a morning camp & afternoon camp (2 camps held during the same week to ensure he was in an all-day camp). 7 days before the camp, I got an email confirming his upcoming camp & instructions on where to park, what to bring, etc. 4 days before the camp start date, they emailed me saying that both camps were cancelled due to not insufficient enrolled campers. I just cannot believe how little notice they gave me. They did offer alternatives like signing up for another week or taking my kid to the Redmond location (which was not feasible for our family ). In the first couple of emails they sent me, they did not offer me the opportunity to get a refund. I had to ask. I also asked that they call me - I thought it would be easier to communicate rather than exchange emails, but they were reluctant to do so. There is no phone number listed on their website. On the refund email, there is a phone number listed but when I called, I found out the number was not in service. When the manager finally called me, he was nice and understanding, but ultimately there was nothing he could do. Luckily I asked about the following week's camp and he informed me that the following week is also cancelled. I'm glad I asked, otherwise I don't know when they would have informed me (why they didn't inform me of all the cancelations all at once is beyond me). My kid was so excited for this camp! It's so disappointing. And now, it's way too late to find any other summer camp in Seattle for next week. I am stuck trying to find other childcare options. I can't speak about the quality of the camp, but Coding With Kids is definitely not being run professionally based on my experience. read more

My son learns a lot from his private lessons and really like his instructor but as other reviews have stated, the customer service has been horrible and very frustrating. There is no phone number to contact and sending an email to the urgent email address gets no response. You are not allowed to reschedule lessons with your teacher. I thought the customer service was decent since they actually did a good job when my son switched summer camps a couple years ago but it seems like it has gone downhill since then, or maybe it has always been this way for lessons instead of camp. read more

I signed up for basic subscription for a year, from Sept 13th, 2021 to Sept 13th, 2022. My son has Tuesdays class back then, and when he moved to the next level, his class was on Wednesdays. And recently he graduated to level 3, and switched days to Mondays. I turned off the auto renewal and switched the subscription to the 8 week lessons base. However, they started charging me on Monday, September 12th (I paid the subscription till Sept 13th). After emailing back and forth, in the end, they basically said because his previous level was on Wednesday, which is Sept 14th. He already on Mondays schedule for a few weeks, for God sake. Besides, his original schedule was on Tuesdays, which falls on Sept 13th. It is a nightmare, that is why I just decided it was not worth it. read more

If there is zero star, I would give to this company. They rescheduled class in very last second at the first class on Saturday. Then they said we can rescheduled on Sunday night 8-9. Again they rescheduled in last minute and said to push back 30 minutes. It messed up my weekend. We send emails to them try to get the money refunded and didn't get any response. They only respond when they want you to pay for the classes. They don't have any phone calls customer service. All you can do is sending them emails and nobody gonna reply when there is some problems. I don't know where do they get the parents' reviews on their website. Yelp says this review means "Eek Methinks not". Pretty good assessment. We must've caught CwK on a bad year, because the teacher, with all the gear, was a no call no show the very first day. We've used them before, and so we gave them a second chance, letting them know clearly what the expectations were. We also requested they make sure to cover new material so it wasn't a repeat of material covered a year and a half ago. They have had massive turnover in middle management- nothing is getting done (we literally scheduled this class a year ago, and have had 4 project managers now, as each prior quits or is fired). Our class experience: Coding with Kids consistently failed to provide needed BASIC gear (extension cords, projector stand or screen, mobile hotspot), even after we communicated and escalated with management and they agreed to fix things. 6 weeks in and still the teachers are asking the teacher to provide accessories in order to make the class POSSIBLE. The projector was underpowered and blurry and kids could see nothing on it, one of the teachers was kind and patient but the other Clapped in kids' faces, rudely, to try and get their attention (newsflash; they're chatting and zoning out because waiting for you to get your projector working ISN'T what they want to spend their time doing). 3 different classes didn't start on time because of equipt failures. The kicker: they promised to take 3 classes off the invoice, but didn't. In fact, we just received an invoice, which was supposed to be $99 per student, for a 9 student class (~900), ....that was for over 2700. !! And the kids' lesson plan and final project? ...Exactly the same as a year and a half ago. Cannot imagine how they can viably stay in business with this model and with no changes, no leadership for improvement when clients are failed so miserably as they have in our case (and reading other reviews here, I see we're not alone ). The KIDS even complained about how bad the class was. Disappointing experience in the extreme. read more

Coding With Kids was very frustrating. My kids felt behind the entire time and I made several inquiries about getting them caught up. I sent emails and left feedback. We even asked the teacher to offer feedback during the lesson, via screen share, to ensure they were on the right track. This did not help as the teacher never really connected with them to make sure they were on the right track. As a teacher of over 20 years, I know that students need affirmation and feedback to keep them on the right track. This never happened. My kids are totally turned off by coding now. I rarely ever write reviews as I rarely have the time to do so, but I was so impressed with the customer response from Coding with Kids, that I absolutely wanted to share my experience. First off, their system is so very well organized. Once you register, you receive a parent page where you will find everything you need for a seamless journey from preparation to the first day of class; this includes tutorials, guides, passwords, and links for necessary downloads. After his first class, my son was terribbly unhappy as he could not connect with the content and he found it too difficult for him. This company was incredibly responsive. Their Regional Director emailed me and did everything he could to fix the situation. He was incredibly kind and understanding. Within hours, my son was registered on a different class; and because of their well organized platform, I was able to complete all the pre-requisite checklist quickly. Lastly, my son was joining a class on day 2. The class instructor did an amazing job transitioning his new student briskly and comfortably. I couldn't have been more impressed. By the way, between 2 kids, I have signed up for many other Virtual Coding type camps. Don't be deterred by this company's lower price point or be fooled into thinking that it is a lower quality level camp. The quality of the instructors and instructions are 100% similar than the other more expensive camps. I am impressed and will definitely be looking more closely in taking more classes with coding with kids. read more

Our 13 year old son has taken the Python summer camp with Coding with Kids last year and this year he did Minecraft Modding. He has been very happy with both camps and learned a lot. The teaches were well prepared and knowledgeable. Now for the past 2 months he has been taking the Level 4 online classes and is looking forward to each class! They use a video conferencing software (only the teacher is on video). The kids can 'raise hands', vote, get a 1:1 time with the teacher or share their screens when they have a question or to show off their solution. I must say it works out quite well! Our son loves that he can work at his desk and use his own computer, and I am happy I don't have to drive him anywhere :) read more

I registered for a class and selected the wrong date the first time. Within an hour I contacted them to ask to reschedule, and the emailed me back saying they would issue a refund, no problem. They never did, and a few weeks later told me too bad because they have a 48-hour refund policy. This is HORRIBLE customer service! When I thought I was getting a refund, I rescheduled the class for my son. The class was incredibly misleading - listed as a beginner class, but my 8-year-old son did not have near enough of the skills and hardware to keep up. So now I'm out $450 and no one at the company will even speak to me. Don't trust this company! They are a mess and are taking advantage of desperate parents during a global crisis!! read more

tl;dr: Almost unbelievable bad experiences with Coding With Kids. Would not recommend to anyone, under any circumstances. This is my first negative review on Yelp, but wow, this was so bad! I had to drop my son from a class, and they offered a credit, which I accepted. However, later when I tried to use the credit, I never got any response. I sent six e-mails, over the course of two weeks, first attempting to use the credit, and then attempting to get a refund. The e-mails went to four different e-mail addresses from their website, including one which they say is for urgent matters, such as kids that aren't getting picked up. No response. Their website provided no alternative means of contact, such as a phone number. After two weeks without a response, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and also contacted my credit card company to contest the charge. The credit card company initially gave me my money back, but Coding with Kids contacted the credit card company to tell them that the charge was valid, and so the charge was reapplied. Then, incomprehensibly, Coding with Kids contacted the BBB the next day to tell them that they would love to give me a refund, but they couldn't because there was an active credit card dispute - they neglected to mention that I would already have had my money back, had they not, the very day before, disputed the credit card charge. It's hard to see how this was anything other than an outright lie. They also claimed that they hadn't seen any of my six e-mails asking to apply the credit or the refund, which seems highly implausible. And even more incomprehensibly, they claimed that they were eager to settle the dispute, but then they made no attempt to contact me at either the e-mail or phone number that they had on file. Finally, after a month spending many hours on the phone with the credit card company, someone from Coding With Kids contacted me for the first time since the start of the dispute (with the phone number that they had on file from the very beginning) to say that they would be refunding my money. They did apologize, but they weren't able to give any explanation as to why they supposedly never saw any of my multiple e-mails, why they contacted the credit card company to reapply charges if they were actually willing to refund the charges, and why they hadn't attempted to call or e-mail for more than a month. If you look at their BBB page, or other reviews here, you can see other with similar experiences trying to get refunds or use credits. The most obvious explanation is that Coding With Kids is run by liars. But even taking them completely at their word, they have issues with e-mail that make it impossible to contact them even for urgent matters, will make incomprehensible decisions to keep your money when they become aware of issues, and will let many weeks go by without contacting you about these issues. If you have issues, and need a credit or a refund, you will only be able to get it after huge amounts of work. read more

The classes are unstructured and developmentally inappropriate. The teachers we experienced don't seem to have a lot of developmental knowledge about 5 and 6 year olds. The kids who are a bit older get more out of the class but I am not sure if they even have a context for what they are doing, they just have the fine motor skills and reading skills to play more with the program. read more

My eldest son participated in Coding with Kids after school at his elementary school for three years and learned how to use Scratch, Code and build his computer skills. The instructors were nice, helpful at answering questions and good with positive reinforcement to encourage kids to keep trying. He also participated in the Friday evening Code-a-thons! The kids all worked on a special project while the parents got to drop and go! Now- my youngest son is excitedly participating in the after school program and can't wait to get home to continue working on their projects! I encourage you to give Coding with Kids a try--- they have really good teachers and the kids learn A LOT! read more

Both my son and daughter have taken classes and camps with Coding With Kids. My kids first did a summer camp. My daughter wasn't excited about it, but after the first class she was hooked. She came home after the first day and wanted to continue working on the game she was creating. My son started in the K-1 camp and it was a perfect introduction to Coding. My kids also took a class that was offered at our elementary school. The classes continued to build on the skills that they learned during camp. The great thing was it also it gave my kids something to connect on and they loved helping each other on their projects at home. My son did the intermediate camp last summer and an intermediate after school class. He continued to learn new programming techniques in each class. He also presented his project on the last day of camp. This was a big deal because he is a really shy kid and doesn't like to talk in front of groups, but he was so excited about the game he created he wanted to show everyone! I highly recommend these classes and camps! read more

Our 8 year old was very enthusiastic to learn coding and thus we enrolled him in the class. Unfortunately, he had such a bad experience that he refused to go for the class anymore.They fill in kids from all levels just to keep the class going thus the kids don't follow any class curriculum, they are extremely rude and provide no communication on the kids performance. They don't share curriculum, progress report or any follow up, homework or classwork that a child comes back home with. There is no way you can assess what they are doing there. My child was traumatized and threatened by the teacher and humiliated in the class! read more
