I would highly recommend 911 driving school for your teen drivers. My son had an amazing experience with his classroom instructor. Since the instructor was former law enforcement, not only did he get the regular rules of the road info he also received knowledge regarding what not do to in detail. His drive instructor, Alejandro, was awesome. He made sure that my son knew everything that he needed to know to be a safe and cautious driver. I signed up for 7 driving lessons at this school. It was a very bad experience for me. My instructor was very rude & condescending. I do not come from a privileged place and had never been in automatic cars & so I was confused during my first lesson and asked about different functionality of switches & automatic gears. The instructor (I don't want to call out names here) was very rude and condescending and would not answer my questions, atleast never answer them straight. Once while conveying a message, he kept hitting his forehead in a very aggressive manner. This was kind of scary to see. I wonder if he was rude to me because of my color or if he's like this with everyone. Anyways, I hope he treats people well & not act as a bully. I had to complete 7 lessons because other diving schools were booked up or were not taking students during pandemic. Do not get your driving education here. All but one of the driving teachers were rude, mean, and often made me feel extremely uncomfortable. To illustrate the pervasive culture of discourtesy, I will give you two examples of this driving school's extremely poor customer service. First, on the day of my knowledge test I went to the location for the test. I was given my test in a separate room. Not only did no one supervise my test (meaning I could have very easily cheated because they allowed my phone in the room and no one was watching) but a bunch of instructors in the next room over were chatting and laughing extremely loudly. I could barely focus on my test as the people in the next room talked about the merits of city living vs farm life and about homelessness in Seattle. Second, on the day of my driving test I had another nasty experience. I walked in to the school to check-in and the instructor handed me a folded paper and told me to sign where it was highlighted. Curious, I unfolded the paper and saw another place where it was highlighted. I asked if I should sign that too. The instructor look at me with such animosity, hostility, and bitterness and said something along the lines of "this is why you have to listen to my instructions the first time. If you don't you will fail this test." He didn't answer my question and just grabbed the paper back from me. By the time I got in the car, I was shaking because I am so unused to people who are just purely mean for the sake of being mean. These are just two examples of many. During driving lessons, I had several instructors raise their voices at me, ask me if I'm stupid, or tell me I was doing a "horrible" job. After my first driving lesson, I felt so miserable about my skills due to the constant negativity. I have no reason to assume that their verbal abuse was reserved for me, as I am a good student and passed my tests with good grades. I believe the instructors just imagine they are tough alpha males, the perfect antidote to all the positivity and snowflake sensibility of schools in liberal Seattle. I was a student here attending the driving classes, the scheduled time for class to end was 6:15 however it never was that time usually 20-30 before or after 6:15, so if your a child attending the class or a parent picking up you never know when class will end. Another thing that makes this a complete mess, when you schedule a drive they tell you to get there 10-20 min early however proceed to show up 10-20 min late so your just sitting there waiting. My final drive to get my license had been scheduled and paid for and last sec the instructor had informed me we need to reschedule and I could no longer go. VERY FRUSTRATING!!! You need to have your peace of mind to learn, which i didn't find there. Unfortunately, what other folks posted are true. I should have check on yelp before schedule a lesson. Lady at front desk is really nice but some instructors are horrible. Mr. Charles is one of the rudest instructor I ever met, rude and also condescending. Instead of answering your question, he prefers ask you to go home and read the driver guide. Please note this is a driving lesson, not a test. You better off not ask any questions. Just sit, listen, do exactly what he tells you, or he can do you a favor and ruin your day. Frankly speaking, I did learn something from him and you can definitely find him really good at driving. But this whole experience is really uncomfortable and disrespectful. Really great experience taking my driving test here recently! The driving instructor made me feel at ease and I was able to pass without a problem. I have heard of some driving instructors being uptight and rude but the person who proctored my test was friendly and easygoing. If you just need to take a driving test, take it here! I'd recommend signing up online first through their portal, then emailing them to find a time for your driving test. This is also one of the few places (during COVID) that permit you to take your driving test with your own car. Just be sure to mask up! read more

As an adult beginning driver, I obviously had concerns about the process, wariness about my skills, and was stressed about finding someone who would work w my learning style. Many of the reviews are not great to say the least; and I was afraid of getting an instructor who was more of a drill sergeant than an educator. Lots of ppl wrote that their instructors were rude and condescending. One reviewer said his instructor wouldn't explain his error to him; and although I don't know their circumstance, I do know I need to talk thru my failures and usually am better skilled because of them. So it was important to work w someone who was easygoing, good w explanations and who could guide me thru my mistakes and make practical suggestions of how to improve. I boned up on the handbook, studied info I found online, and passed the written test easily (which, btw although in a different room has multiple cameras, to address an earlier reviewer's concerns about cheating). While I was there, I chatted up the gentleman who gave me the test. He turned out to be the fabulous office manager John (w/ an H). I told him my fears and we talked about the reviews. He spent a great deal of time answering my questions, explained the whole process/steps, and gave me some recommendations of people he thought would be a good fit. He was right. I approached a couple of the instructors on my way out and they turned out to be 2 of the guys John referred me to. I mostly worked w Frank, who is an incredibly supportive and laidback guy. This doesn't mean he will let you slide w breaking the laws or that he isn't serious about making sure you are a safe and competent driver. After learning more about me, he came up with an itinerary that started slow and manageable but built on my increasing skills in a way that covered all the material. I felt challenged, but in a good way and after each lesson we discussed where I was progressing and where to improve. I felt very supported by Frank through this process, and am grateful to him. I also worked w Jon. He's a funny guy but very direct as well. I think he's from the East Coast, if not he should be. I can see how some fragile Seattleites might not get him, but I found him very informative. I was getting frustrated one of the days because I was not nailing backing around a curb/corner. He was still encouraging and talked me through it. By the third or fourth effort, it was coming together, and he showed me some practical things to keep in mind that made it easier to process. I was much more uptight about it than he was. I once heard him talking to a kid who failed his driver's test and was impressed by how supportive he was about getting this teen back on the schedule to try again. John also recommended Anthony, but he apparently is only working with the high school kids, so keep him in mind if you're a parent. It sounds like the high schoolers are obviously the bread & butter for any driving program, and 9-11 appears to have it down. Safety is obviously a huge priority, and they follow the law about making sure you have your permit on you, etc. They do book out for up to a month, so stay on top of your scheduling deadlines. From my first visit here to leaving my driving test, I have found the staff to be very friendly, contentious, helpful, and rooting for your success. Whether it's the office divas, John the mgr, or the instructors. And I appreciated their sense of humour. I'm grateful to everyone here for such a good experience. I gave both my knowledge/written test, and my skill test here. Had the most unpleasant experience. Also, I called them for almost 2 months after my knowledge test to schedule a skill test, but they didn't pick up even a SINGLE TIME. 1. Knowledge / Written test As soon as I entered their branch at University Way, the lady at the reception got a little annoyed because I was carrying a college/laptop bag. She said "We don't have any space for you to keep this. You shouldn't have brought it" I just missed passing by 1 mark, and said that I'd like to retake the test. The lady said very cockily, "I suggest you study and come back later". Well, I didn't ask for your advice lady! I asked for the test, so just hand me the paper! I wrote the test again, and passed comfortably this time, to which the lady at the reception said arrogantly, "Seems like you are lucky". No, I'm not lucky. I passed because I studied and I deserved to. 2. Skills Test I reached well on time, and after filling the consent form, this person who was to administer my test started off an irritable note. Someone had opened the door after we entered, and he shouted me and my brother for it. And throughout the test, he was pretty unpleasant and made me more anxious and uncomfortable. I've been driving for well over 10 years, but didn't pass the test. I went to another driving school, where the staff was extremely polite and hospitable. I passed my test, not just because of my driving experience, but also because the staff didn't make me feel uncomfortable. I could keep my focus and drive well. Focus is the No. 1 thing you need while driving on the road, and making the test taker uncomfortable is not something these folks should do. Won't recommend. read more

I brought here our au pair for the driving test only (no class). The shop looked close and the timetable had a big "CLOSED" tag for Monday. It was Monday. A small sign on the door said "if you are here for a driving test outside of office hours, wait 15mins outside and then if your examiner does not show up call [here]". So we waited 10 minutes. There was no sign of activity, the blinds were down, the place looked shut down for good. I looked around to check if there was some car with the logo of the driving school because it seemed a run-down, abandoned place. Until a rude voice from the inside said to come in. He opened the door and lashed at us for standing outside and that we were lucky he heard us because we were 10 mins late and we would have lost both the money and the time slot. In fact inside the office we saw another sign that said that by law 10 minutes in you lose everything. Good luck calling 15 mins later like the outside sign said. Talking about setting somebody up to fail. After mumbling something abrupt when I asked to get in the car since I was the owner, in very curt and unfriendly ways he escorted our au pair out, proceeded to tell her that because she was late (due to the shop appearing to be closed and him not showing up outside per the sign) he was going to take points off her score. What followed would have unnerved anybody but a F1 driver -- comments not related to the examination, not repeating instructions when the driver did not immediately understand and asked him to repeat, complained that our car was parked on the street and in general all the things a person would do when he has had a bad morning and has the opportunity to lash out as somebody, particularly a girl who could be intimidated by an aging rude bearded man in a position of power. Granted, she could not complete the exam successfully. She has been driving for over 5 years in Italy... Even if that was solely because of her driving skills, I do not recommend taking an exam here because these people came out of the middle ages --- you will have better odds to perform at your best at another driving school. UPDATE. Their CEO called me to apologize but at the same time basically told me that in Italy where our au pair is from exams are easier (incorrect) and to find another agency. Two days later and a different driving school, my au pair passed the exam without any problem. read more

GO TO DEFENSIVE DRIVING! The 911 staff is generally nice and helpful as they helped with scheduling and refund. However, I had issue with my DL examiner Mr David. Mr David is a rude man, who has zero emotional values and thinks he can talk to people any way he wants. His tone, demeanour and how comfortable he feels he can address people however he wants, shows that he's been doing it from a long time and 911 is pretty okay with it. While driving, if I made any mistakes, instead of addressing the mistake like you'd expect a professional examiner, he became overbearing. At the end of the exam, he was just ready to get off the car without even calculating all the marks, and I had to ask him to show the report. Anyways, i was really frustrated by this experience and I'm glad I'll never need to do my business again at 911. I went to Defensive driving the next week, and got my license. They charge you a little more, but they are professional and know how to treat people with respect. read more

Went here for both my knowledge test and driving test, and both times things went over really smoothly! I initially went to another "AA" driving school in Renton for my road test, and had a really bad time because the tester was impatient and was very rude. By contrast, when I did my road test here, my tester was very very kind! Initially asked me about what I didn't do well on last time, gave me some tips before the test. I had the worst driving test experience here. I booked for a warm up (40 minutes) + road test and it looked like the examiner intentionally wanted me to fail. My examiner was Bill Crews and he was extremely condescending and rude! The reason why we have a warmup is to be comfortable and confident to drive in that vehicle but it was completely the opposite. He was horribly intimidating and kept asking me to parallel park throughout the warmup, and would say something that I did not follow. He did not speak clearly and I asked him to explain what he meant and he repeated the same thing. I know it depends on examiner, but based on my experience I would go to DMV instead of being treated like a piece of shit. I think this driving company should keep their examiners in check and teach them how to be humane. I'm reading a lot of bad reviews which sound exactly like my experience. If I had read this, I wouldn't have chosen this place to take my test. read more

I was a student taking this course last summer. I was hoping for a quick and affective course to teach me the rules of the road. Sadly this is not what my classmates and I received. :( Every day I was made fun of by my instructor and yelled at. He almost made my friend and I retake the whole course for doing absolutely nothing. Besides that one bad instructor the lady at at the front desk was very helpful and compassionate, and the other driver instructor named Derek was also very helpful. TLDR. I regret not heeding the reviews I read online. "Driving instructors are rude," "Worst driving experience", etc. Really wish I listened. Unfortunately, I was planning to move out of town, so I decided to sign up with them, as they had the earliest availability. I purchased the 5 lesson plan with road test. My first drive with John was ok. He asked me for my id, and that was it. Next lesson? Canceled a two or so hour before it was scheduled. They sent me a generic email telling me it was canceled. No reason why. I had to call and the person on the phone explained the instructor was not feeling well. Okay, I have to wait another two weeks to reschedule my lesson. When I finally get my second lesson, they tell me I must have a printed permit. I tell them the last instructor didn't ask for one, so I didn't know I needed it. I ask them if they can reschedule the lesson. Not only do they say they won't reschedule the lesson, but I have to pay a cancellation fee!! At this point, had it not been because I already paid for the lessons, I would have just gone to another place or paid my friends to teach me. Unfortunately, I have to put up with this unprofessional place. During my second lesson, when I struggle with a turn, the instructor starts yelling the instructions at me in Spanish. This man just assumed the reason I struggled is because I don't speak English. WTF. Sir, I flipping graduated from an Ivy League school, and do you think a student wouldn't struggle during their second drive? In another lesson I had with Charles, he would just not communicate with me. He would hit the breaks and tell me "You didn't do that right." I would ask "what's wrong?", and he wouldn't respond or he would tell me "You're not paying attention." Sir, this is why you are the teacher. You supposed to tell me how to do things or at least why I'm doing something wrong. In addition to the rude instructors, my lessons got cancelled last minute twice (and I only had 5 lessons). But when mine gets cancelled because of their ineptitude, I get charged a cancellation fee. The emails they send had several typos on the dates and times that made scheduling a nightmare. When I finished my road test and my instructor told Charles that I failed, Charles literally chuckled. My instructor tell me I should try again in a few weeks, umm not with y'all. And expect a DOL complaint!!! Lastly, EVERY SINGLE instructor at this place is a man, and I wouldn't be surprised if they discriminate or have negative bias against female drivers. My experience with @911drivingschool was disappointing. They did last minute cancellations and reschedules of my road test for four time times in a period of three weeks, every-time giving the reason that instructor was sick. During these reschedules I had already taken off from my work and it was all wasted. To my surprise they cancelled fifth time too and they mentioned my knowledge test score had expired. I was not aware of this condition and I feel they kept postponing the test intentionally until my score expired. If that was the case, they would had informed me in advance or else had prioritized my test instead of informing me 3 days later making it look all intentional. This whole process was annoying and unprofessional. I would not recommend anybody for 911 driving school or at least be aware of this. I took lessons with 5 different instructors there, I found all of them were very encouraging, patient, always addressing my needs! The lessons with Rami, Jon, David were fun, I gained more confidence in driving after taking each class, and learnt much more compared with what I learnt from a private instructor elsewhere a few months before. (More ridiculously, my previous instructor's class was TWICE as expensive as 911 driving school!!) I hope I could take more classes here, but I have to leave Seattle soon (so sad!!) Hands down the rudest, most unprofessional staff I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The fat lady at the front desk had the absolute worst attitude. Their website said the knowledge test could be taken between 10 and 1. I arrived at 12:25, waited 5 minutes for the person ahead of me to be finished, and asked to take my knowledge test. The fat lady told me smugly that I was too late to take the test. I looked at my phone and saw it change to 12:31. She told me the last test is administered at 12:30 even though their website says 1. I even offered to tip her to let me take it "one minute late" (on time) and she refused. She seemed really proud of herself. To the owner of this franchise: try hiring employees who don't hate their lives, their jobs, and your customers. read more

I am an adult who came to this school for lessons because I do not have a supportive network to learn to drive. This basically made me vulnerable to driving school sharks. This is the 2nd school that I have tried. Lockdown happened and reached out about getting lessons scheduled. Setting this up was kind of shady-ish via email. I had to wait a month to get in. My first 3 lessons were with Charles, who spent most of the time telling me off and rattling on about whatever and not really teaching. Charles was very PNW passive aggressive (emphasis on "aggressive" and intimidating demeanor). He told me off for not "instantly demonstrating muscle memory" after his 1st instructions. He often criticized my intellect by repeatedly telling me that "I need to have my brain take control" of my actions. He also repeatedly referred to me as being "lazy" (I honestly think what he wanted to say was the N-word, but coward at the last minute.) When I asked him innocently about the best place to store my license in the car, in case I ever get pulled over. He then proceeded to rattle on about that I need to make sure I communicate to the officer... then rambled on about traffic stops and domestic violence situations are where cops are most jumpy (as if to justify traffic stop policr brutality) We went on the highway and he instructed me to "turn to the right when it was safe to do so" in a spot when there were 2 right exit options. Abruptly he grabbed the wheel and forced a turn off the highway without communicating what he was going to do. He proceeded to tell me off for not responding to his instructions immediately when told. Off the highway, he gave another similar instruction (but to the left), and I instantly responded (afraid he would grab the wheel again). He then told me off for not following instructions and responding too quickly. I could go on and on about this dude. For the record, Charles, a ski mask with giant VENT HOLES does not count as appropriate PPE gear during a global pandemic! My last two lessons and my test was with Rami. During the lessons I finally was "learning" but the test was a different story. Firstly, he was not aware of my schedule and this facility failrf to set up a lesson plan to prepare me for this test. I noticed that staff here tend to have the approach that I should either know what to do for this test without given an explanation or know their particular unique features for their cars. Mr. Sadistic Charles, seemed to enjoy me stressing out about not knowing exactly the ins and outs of his particular vehicle without receiving instruction. Rami's demeanor changed to expecting me to "know" what to do in the beginning of the test with poorly communicated instructions (that was the 1st time I ever took a driver's test, by the way). I failed by 1 point - the reasons I was given didn't add up to me but in particular, I was instructed to parallel park behind a black SUV up ahead. I did so PERFECTLY. But Rami demarked me 6 points for supposedly bumping into an imagery parked car behind me. (That was not in my instructions given to me and/or impossible to gage) Ultimately, I feel robbed. 3 hours (at $89 an hour) plus $75 (ish) dollars for the test. Optimistically I asked to extend my package or to reschedule the test, but was blocked because "teenage drivers are more important, currently" (why even offer adult lessons on your site!) I do not recommend using this service. Not at all. I think many of the 5 stars on Google Reviews were bought. Make sure you check all reviews about the facility (like Yelp) before wasting your money. read more

I learned to drive here. I actually came here initially as an accident after a rather poor experience taking the test at the driving school next door. The price was right when compared with the competition. The past reviews were pretty horrific, but it also looked like they had changed ownership or management so I emailed them to get a sense of what they were like, and the replies seemed sane and polite so I gave it a shot. Overall, my experience wasn't great, but it was better than some of the really rough reviews from years past. This place is hurting for a modern electronic scheduling system. The back-and-forth involved in getting the appointments nailed down was a definite drawback. Would also have appreciated a heads-up about how full their driving test schedule was. As it was, another month elapsed between the end of my lessons and the test I was able to get in. My instructor was timely and knowledgeable and seemed genuinely caring, but could also be abrasive and and emotionally draining. If you are an adult who is putting in the effort and is used to being treated as an adult, I think you would be taken aback by the tone he strikes when you are not able to understand him immediately. Further, he would sometimes forget that he had not taught a particular concept and then get snippy about the concept (not that forgetting would merit this, either....) I went there last year and the reception was so rude and unprofessional. While I was taking knowledge test, the reception lady (which was close to test area) was talking with her friends and laughed so loud, I couldn't focus on the test. Also, many of my friends failed the test from here. Honestly, this place sucks, you would rather go to other driving school if you want to save your time and money. read more

if you have the option I would avoid using 911 driving school. It is overly crowded, and drives are almost impossible to get scheduled. My son completed classes in April, he has only had two drives and the schedule is full through august. We will be dragging this out for the next year at this rate. The drive slots fill as soon as they are posted randomly. so if you don't check every 30 mins daily you miss out. I also do not agree with the rudeness of one specific instructor. He reads the test questions quickly and moves on. When asked to repeat the questions, he refused. My son really struggled with the testing portion due to this. I am beyond frustrated and wish we had gone elsewhere, especially for the ridiculous price we paid. read more

Wow!!!!!! After reading all of the reviews I decided to write my own based on the experience I had. I arrived at the office to do my written test, and the RUDE and that's being polite lady at the desk abruptly asked me "well, have you registered and paid online" to which I said no i didn't realise that's what I had to do. She told me that if I could fill out the form in " 6 minutes" I could do the last test at 12.30pm. I filled the form and paid and finished right at 12:30pm, apparently I was too late to do the test! What in the world?!!!!! I clarified to her that she told me that if I could fill out the form my 12:30pm I could do the test. She decided to mix her words and say "oh we are heavily audited and that the test needs to start on time' blah blah blah. I asked her if I could do the test at a different location (given they all have the same name) and she rudely said "no, do you want a refund?!" At this point I was so irritated by this lady I just needed to leave. How can someone SO rude work in customer service? Like honestly, if you hate your job don't work there!!!!! read more

So after reading all the bad reviews, I have to say to myself "Did I make a mistake" NO! Log in, get your permit, pick your class, schedule your drives, if you know your going to miss a class schedule a make up. It's as easy as that! I signed my son up. Only talked to the office twice. each time I spoke to the personnel they were all very professional. Kim behind the counter and Victoria always helped me no problem with professional attitude. His behind the wheel instruction was always a great experience... We even had crazy make ups for all the snow days we just had and I had no problems!! It's drivers school people! If you can't this right stay off the roads. I would highly recommend 911 Driving School. read more

Do not come here on a Saturday for your knowledge test. My review is specifically for my experience on November 9, 2019 from 12:45-2:30pm. I did not want to support poorly reviewed driving schools (sadly there aren't many in Seattle) so I thought 911 would be a better option based on its relatively positive google reviews (compared to the other ones). However, although I passed the knowledge test, I would not recommend this school to others for multiple reasons. Firstly, they rarely pick up the phone. I called so many times but they only picked up the phone once. Secondly, they conduct the tests on a "first come first serve" basis, which isn't a problem in itself. The problem is that the room is so small we end up cramped like sardines. Also, there is no organization of the queue. You must speak up and walk to the front of the crowd if you want to be seen: otherwise you will be ignored. Moreover, there is no actual "queue" as people just stood in the packed space without order. When they run out of clipboards, you must keep a mental note yourself who was before you so when the clipboards become available, you need to speak up and get it yourself if you don't want someone else to skip in front of you. This problem could easily be solved by handing out numbers or having the receptionist sign everyone in. Instead, no effort is made to minimize the disarray. As a result, during my test, I witnessed a couple of alterations between potential clients (who probably already paid online in advance) and some of the employees. Yes, I heard multiple explosives and four letter words being exchanged while I was taking the test. Although I do not condone any type of violence, physical or verbal, I completely understand why someone would be upset after waiting for an hour only to be ignored and treated disrespectfully. Thirdly, the way the test was conducted left a really bad taste in my mouth. It was in the same room as the waiting area. As a result, I was constantly distracted and felt cold whenever the door was opened. The distractions were mainly from the employees and some of the clients. Do not come here if you would like to perform your exam in peace and without distractions. Lastly, the proctor (on November 9, 2019 from 1-3pm) was extremely rude. Luckily not to me, but I witnessed her gratuitous and uncalled for rudeness and condescension. I also overhead her say: "Urgh, that's why I have special rules on Saturdays, but I'll tell you later (when everyone is gone)." Hmmm, I wonder what it could be? Something positive surely! (Sarcasm) In my opinion, it is extremely unprofessional to gossip about the very people who are right there, paying the school to taking the test. It almost felt like she targeted specific types of people to lash out at because she knew she was in control and had the power to do so. I might be wrong, but it felt like she was enjoying her power trips. Another example: when I was done with my test, the receptionist told another client to go ahead and take the test. However, the rude examiner gave the client so much attitude and told him how he's not even supposed to take the test because it's close to the cut off time and how she's doing him a favour. She was clearly annoyed at the client, and most likely disappointed in her own life choices thus far. This forced the client to thank her and forced him to show gratitude. She showed absolutely no empathy. May I ask, how would she feel if someone treated her like that? Rattling someone right before their test... Wow! Either let him take the test or don't: there is absolutely no need to belittle someone for following the receptionist's directions. Overall, I'm glad I passed but I do not recommend this school for the knowledge test. Based on my experience, I decided to go to another school for my road test. read more
