*** Stay away from Big Brains *** My son just took their space elevator summer camp, and the experience was really TERRIBLY AWFUL. 1) David was really mean, and the most commonly used words to the kids' questions was "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS". 2) They host summer camps just to get free (actually we're paying them a lot) assistants to help on their competition projects. David cares about their core competition team only (look like high school students), and just uses the camp boys as free labor. When my son offered his help on programming the robots and emphasized he's got lego EV3 programming experience, he was rejected again with a "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS". My son felt he was there just as a lowest level labor on dirty work. 3) On the last day of the camp, the team went to the museum of flight for the space elevation competition. David told us to arrive on 9am, but he himself came in on 9:40am, which is a unbelievably 40 minute late, and he never said anything not even a sorry word. Then when the competition event was over, David went away immediately, and never cared about whether there are parents there to pick up the kids. 4) The awards of the space elevator competition includes a gift card and a small honor sculpture. David took them away from the kids almost by force. This was the worst summer camp we've ever participated, and we'll keep away from them forever. David is an awesome person to work with. He has a special ability to know what you need exactly to be success on college application. From getting high SAT/ACT score, building excellent essays to finding out what colleges are best for you. He doesn't use existing package to apply your need. He creates a unique package specific for your need. David is also an great robotic mentor. My son spent an year with him on robotic challenge. He has learned a lot from him. He will take what he learned from him and carry it to college. We really appreciate what David has done for my son. The most impressive we got from David is he is super fast on everything. For example, we asked him for the teacher recommendation letter, then we got it on the next day. That is because he puts you and your things on the firs priority. If you ever need help with college applications, David is the man to go to! He is personable, flexible, and knowledgeable. I've worked with David on a few application essays two weeks out from my deadline and he has helped me produce great pieces. There were a few prompts where I had no idea what to write about, but David helped me find the perfect story to tell for each prompt. What seemed like casual conversation about my life and values actually helped me discover wonderful topics for my essays. We then wrote, edited, and read my paper about 100 times until I was satisfied. Most importantly, David's sense of humor and professionalism is what makes me want to work with him. Big Brains is a great place to get tuoring and counseling. My student goes there twice a week for tutoring and HW help and it is very helpful. The tuors are knowledable and kind. Trish at the front is amazing, she helped us workout schedules and very responsive to all our acadamic and schedule needs. David sat with us for piliminary college counseling conversations, he has a clear understand of the application system and how to guide students through the process. My student was struggeling with some class choices and he really helped breakdown the choices and put them in the larger context of an overall study plan.
