Post-COVID, it's gotten worse year over year and now that Nicholini is closed, the buffet no longer stretches across the entire floor, it's limited to just Brasserie. The restaurant was packed to the gills pre-COVID but now only a handful of tables were occupied while we were there. Gone is the unlimited lobster, shrimp and other seafood and instead you'll get a platter with one of each and if you want oysters, you have to pay a surcharge of US$4 per piece. There's no longer a carving station and instead they put out a braised beef stew and another low quality item I can't even remember. The sushi/sashimi station is also gone and instead you'll get a pre-assembled fish bite of some kind. The live pasta station is still there but with mediocre selection, it's good but not something you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. The rest of the buffet is just so sad with very limited and low quality selections, there's a tuna fish salad on offer, need I say more? They're also stingy with their champagne, we had to ask for a refill a couple of times and they stopped pouring half an hour before closing. We've given this restaurant more chances than it deserves and this time we're saying goodbye to them for good. For the price that we paid which was over US$150 per person, there're better choices out there.

The steak was very tender and juicy, making every bite melting in your mouth. Also, the steak had a good amount of salt, not needing to add more salt unlike most steak places I've tried. The steak had a good meat to fat ratio. The spinach was sautéed with garlic. The spinach had a very strong and delicious garlic flavor plus the perfect amount of salt and juiciness. Worth to try. Also, although the rice was just simple and steamed, the rice tasted good and it wasn't over cooked. The seating area was nice and had a nice outside view. Although the price may seem pricy, the food quality was totally worth it. Overall, very delicious meal and will come again to possibly try another dish. 10/10

With indoor-outdoor seating on a relatively calm portion of Wong Nai Chung road, St. Germain is a relaxing spot for a drink. One very nice feature is that they still allow you to bring your dogs to the outside area, which Happy Valley Bar and Grill and The Jockey no longer do. So, St. Germain has supplanted these two spots for dog beers. I would be remiss if I failed to mention the excellent service from the bar staff and waitresses. They are friendly and efficient, checking in to make sure your glass does not sit empty, and they always offer bowls of water to the dogs. Although the beer is more expensive than its neighbors, St. Germain's Stella on draft is always amazingly ice cold. I'm not sure how they keep their beer colder than all the other bars, but it's incredibly welcome on hot summer evenings. The bar menu is also excellent for a snack or a cheese/charcuterie board to share. I am particularly fond of the Croque Monsieur -- oozing with cheesy goodness and crisped to perfection, and accompanied by greasy-in-good-way hand cut fries. One of these days I'll probably get around to trying the restaurant, but for now it's a great spot to enjoy a really cold beer with the pups.

So our poorly orchestrated appetizer didn't ruin the evening, but took the polish off a great experience.

The staff make the wait for food bearable, and I'd happily go back just to experience the standard of service again. The food itself was a much-needed change to the generic western menus of some of the restaurants these days. I mean, come on! Burgers, fajitas, a couple salads, risotto, and pizza, let's see something different. I learnt here, at 22 North, that steak did not need ketchup and french fries, not when it's cooked to perfection with a side of potato gratin. It looked so good on my plate that I didn't want to spoil it. Hunger eventually overcame awe before the meal grew cold and I devoured it. Half way through the meal the Belgian head chef, a cheerful fellow always cracking off jokes, came to see how we were doing. All our mouths were too stuffed to respond. AV is one of the more pricy options (probably the most pricy, actually), but I felt that the quality and taste of the food was excellent, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was inviting. I got the rib eye, which was the first that rivaled Tango, my favorite HK steakhouse. On the side you get a limitless house salad which was very light and fresh. We also ordered the hash browned potato which had mozzarella filling. Absolutely delicious. The price for that plus my wife's sea bream entree and a few glasses of wine was a high, but not prohibitive 950HKD. So AV isn't a once a week place, but it's a great treat that's right in the neighborhood.

It's one of my favourite streets in Hong Kong to explore with its shady trees and eclectic cred. Basically, I was already in a happy mood and I walked into the most gorgeous restaurant with a cool atmosphere. If you're like me, and have a thing for all things kookie, you'll love the tiles to the hand drawn artwork on the walls to the toilet doors. I made my way upstairs, thinking my pal would already be there, he wasn't ... But the waiter was... And he spoke wiz ze French accent. *heart melt*. I adore an accent, and it just made me appreciate the restaurant even more as it offers French cuisine by French people. Hells yes. I was really after eggs today, and boy was there a selection. I opted for the poached egg with wild asparagus and Parma ham. Bon oeuf, they were spectacular. The eggs were perfectly runny, maybe even verging on scrambled yet poached (we have coined the phrase scroached) with a salty flavour from the Parma ham that hit every tastebud and sent it tingling. The asparagus was fresh and crunchy, adding another layer to the dish. Served alongside the meal is a basket of the bread baked fresh in the kitchen with a dob of salted butter that is out of this world. I mean, butter is butter right... Wait till you've tasted this butter. It was so scrumptious I even asked where it's from. Sadly the server didn't know, but I think it's a ruse to keep us going back (although I was offered some for takeaway). Finally, I have to make mention of my ice latte. It was spectacular, with a little sweetness and coffee beans as decoration, it was the perfect combination to my utterly delectable meal. The main dish were mussels, they could have been the star of the evening but the quality was to mixed. I had the 500 g portion. First all the good things about them: 0 empty shell - not like in other places where they cheat you with 500 g or more but a lot of the shells are empty. The taste of the majority of the mussels was great. The mussels itself and the soup they were made in. Very balanced. Now the but: Quite a lot of the mussels were not cleaned well, they were sandy. I would also explain etc that the kitchen would take out all closed mussels - I had 7 closed once. Now that the real star of the evening: The mouse au chocolate - great taste, very fluffy and light. The ribeye was epic paired with the butter sauce I got and it was very tender and very satisfying for my appetite. The fries were perfect as well not soggy or too salty and just right for fries. The beer? Well that was great as well, who wouldn't enjoy a beer paired with a nice dinner?! By the time I finished eating and drinking, I was very full indeed and this was a perfect dinner! The tables are all set up with small clusters of organic tomatoes in the center, the idea being that the guests would enjoy them with olive oil as a starter. It's relatively new in Hong Kong, having just opened this October 2018 - it has already been nominated as the Tatler's Readers' Choice award for Best New Restaurant. Nigerian born Chef Patron Raphael Duntoye has outdone himself with his extraordinary menu. We started with the Beignets de fleurs which are lightly battered (crispy on the outside, soft inside) friend zucchini flowers. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I could eat these daily. The Crevettes Tièdes à l'Huile d'Olive - warm prawns with olive oil were so tasty and seasoned just right, so we could taste the freshness of the sea with the olive oil. Carpaccio de Sériole - yellowtail carpacio had just the right amount of thinly sliced hot pepper to give it that extra emphasis. Divine. Poivrons Marinés à l'Huile d'Olive the roasted peppers were smoky flavored but not charred so we enjoyed the freshness of the peppers untarnished. Betteraves Marinées marinated beetroot tasted roasted and marinated and was bursting with flavor. Coquelet aux citrons confits baby chicken with lemon confit was aromatic and tender with a slightly crispy skin. Delicious. White truffles in pasta - what words could describe the wonder affiliated with tasting this amazing dish? The pan fried dover sole was fragrant and tasted like it was just caught within the hour - the freshness was unmatched. To top it all, we had the passion fruit, coconut and mango sorbet with their signature French toast, which tasted like the top of a creme brulee. This has now become my favorite restaurant in Hong Kong. It is that good.
