Absolutely adorable excellent service and we will definitely return. Clean and homely feel to the restaurant which I loved. The Chief was friendly and food was amazing.

Amazing breakfast and pastries! The breakfast salad is incredible and my sister loved the French omelette. We come back constantly for the almond croissant!

The best breakfast place in the universe! It is better than what I had in Paris, and until now, Paris was my best breakfast ever. The inside is awesome - it looks like a Parisian shop and sold many French goods. The service was excellent! The chef made anything there AMAZING! We have tried - Omelettes Quiches Salads Cocottes Pastina Lemonades Pastries Gelato All of it tastes even better the more you go! They have the actual Orangina like they do in Europe in glass bottles. It's way better than the American fake stuff! Try to get to Cocotte if you can - it's near Mystic or Mohegan Sun.

Lovely little brunch place for a spot of European cuisine! Great food. Tiny seating area and tables crammed tightly together which may or may not be comfortable for you. It was also freezing cold (minus a star). Service was great, if a little frenzied. The place is always busy and if you don't have a reservation it's likely you won't get a table as a walk-in, so plan and call ahead so you're not disappointed. Lots of really good European chocolates and other foodie treats to buy as well - great place for gifts for foodie friends!

A friend had been eyeing this place for a while so we decided to check it out! We made reservations for Sunday at 11, which I highly recommend. Small parking lot, 10 or so tables. A two top without reservations came in just before us, which they were able to seat but only by chance! We were a group of four and got a great table in the back! I would say anymore than 4 people this place might be too tight. We ordered iced coffees, French press pour, and a peach nectar which was apparently really good! For food we got an omelette and the rest of us got cocoetts - delicious! I got the Cajun which had a good amount of shrimp and was well seasoned. It came with a nice piece of toast and potatoes. It was a good amount of food - not overwhelming but left you feeling full. The biggest mistake was not ordering pastries before our meal! When we sat there were plenty of croissants, but by the time we got back there were only a handful. We were able to get a loaf of olive bread, a lemon blueberry treat, a "dessert croissant", and some macaroons. Service was good! I think there were about 3 people. You could tell they were busy but did their best to keep things moving. After brunch we walked downtown Old Saybrook and did some window shopping. It was a great day all around!

Adorable French bakery and cafe with delicious brunch options, fresh-made breads and pastries, and beautiful desserts. Pro tip: shop the bakery before sitting for brunch, things sell out fast! They will hold your bakery items for you behind the counter while you indulge in delicious eggs, meats, and cheeses cooked to perfection in cocotte dishes. Fresh coffee in your own individual French press. French jams, cooking utensils, and decor displayed and for sale throughout. Everything is fresh, seasonal menu crafted with care. Small but cozy inside and out, in a historic home and former pharmacy. Would recommend calling ahead for a reservation.

I love cocotte! Call and make a reservation in advance as they are busy for breakfast/brunch. They have some delicious specials but I am always drawn to the cocotte dishes that could with crispy buttery potatoes and a slide of crunchy bread. They have some delicious pastries and desserts at the front register. If you're looking to take something home they have some great culinary-related gifts that would be a splendor for anyone to receive. The space has retained its old world charm from when the building was initially built as a pharmacy. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I love the energy in this space. I'd recommend for anyone!

Second time coming here and the food was still delicious. I got the Cocette Nordique and it was very flavorful. The waiter was kind of and very try thoughtful. Also got some delicious gelato. It feels like a mom and pop restaurant and it definitely is very comfortable.

Hidden gem for lunch/brunch just off I-95. Exquisite French pastries, adorable country store, and a delicious menu. You need to make a res and parking can get tight. The menu design is a little confusing- my party of 3 missed the entire lunch menu which was on the backside. Wish they were open more!

First visit but not our last. Charming French restaurant/bakery in the spot of our former favorite dinner restaurant. Different time of day but same top quality. From the coffee to the dessert everything was perfect. Relaxing atmosphere and friendly service made for a memorable meal. Was difficult to choose just one of the beautiful pastries so more visits planned.

Cocotte is both (1) a French cafe serving brunch items like quiche, egg dishes with Lyonnaise potatoes, Croques, Salads and Tartines, and (2) a bakery with great croissants, tasty macarons, beautiful desserts and bread. This review focusses exclusively on the bakery side, although the brunch menu looks awesome. Cocotte is located on the less busy part of Main Street in Old Saybrook. I assume the building used to house the "James Pharmacy" because that reference comes up in my reading. The inside is small and cute, and the bakery is adjacent to the dining area. The bakery displayed beautiful desserts, croissants and pastries. I tried an almond croissant, macarons and an ornate dessert that featured a sort of gourmet hard chocolate cookie type base, and a chocolate mousse, sheltered by a beautiful soft, red, knobby topping. This dessert is way cooler than I'm describing it. I'll defer to my pic. It was also crowned with Gold Leaf. If this dessert has a formal name, I don't know it. It was delicious though. The almond croissant is in the top tier of CT almond croissants I've tried. Terrific flaky texture and delicious almond flavor. The macarons were fresh, attractive and tasty. The flavors were on point. I was impressed with the bakery side of Cocotte. I'll definitely be back for a Croque at some point too. Five Stars

When someone finally acknowledged us, we were just told to "wait." Ten minutes later, we checked in again, only to be told that our table was still occupied, with no real update or apology. Trying to make the best of it, we went to the bar to order a drink while we waited, but the bartender responded with an attitude and told us "the host will be with you soon" -- which had nothing to do with the fact that we were simply trying to get a drink while we stood there waiting. It was an unnecessary brush-off. We were finally seated over 30 minutes after our reservation, and placed our full order right away, hoping to make up for lost time. But then the cheese board took another 30 minutes to arrive. When we asked, we were told there was some kind of miscommunication -- again, no real ownership or urgency. Then came the main course. I ordered the bavette steak medium rare, but what I got was clearly rare and chewy, as the photo shows. When I mentioned it, the waitress did say it looked maybe on the rare side to her but also that Bavette can come out like that looking red - but Undercooked and poorly prepared is not a feature of the cut. We didn't want to wait longer so just ate some. To be fair, our waitress was kind and acknowledged the issues, but it was one of the most frustrating "high-end" dining experiences I've had. At these prices and with this reputation, you expect better service, better pacing, and food cooked properly. Instead, it felt like we were an afterthought the entire night.

Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the kitchen. At one point, I noticed servers handling bread with their hands and then bringing out food without washing them, which was honestly unpleasant to see while sitting at my table. We were seated by the window and were given freshly baked bread. We ordered the French classics: mussels, escargot, duck leg confit, and steak and fries. The mussels came out first and were pretty average. I usually like sipping the wine broth it comes with or dipping fries/bread into the broth. The escargot had plenty of oil and seasoning. It was actually too salty even though my coworker requested less salt on everything. I enjoyed dipping the fresh bread into the oil. Lastly came the entrees. I was a bit disappointed in both of them. The hanger steak was cooked medium rare like I wanted but the texture was not great. I was hoping for a more tender cut and this was a bit tough and lean. The frites were cooked well and very crispy. The duck confit was very tender but I didn't think it was amazing. Overall I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant with so many other great options around. I might be biased as I am not too familiar with French cuisine but we already sampled most of the classics already.

There also appears to be extra seating at the back of the restaurant. The menu is small but has plenty of selections, both small and large bites as they call them. Our server, who was very friendly and pleasant as well as the other staff, took our drink orders and let us know what the fish was for the evening. We decided to order the sourdough bread, French onion soup, and two burgers with fries. This is a very relaxed atmosphere, a little in the dark side, and the seating was very tight between tables given the size of the restaurant but we adjusted the table and made it work. The bread arrived hot from the oven with their house butter which I couldn't quite figure out was in it. Almost seemed sweet as if it was a maple syrup base but can't say for sure. The bread was incredible and didn't last long. The French onion soup arrived in a large bowl with a number of crispy croutons and plenty of onions. The soup was very tasty with a little bit of a bit to it. The croutons were a very nice touch as they stayed crispy ti the soup was gone. The burgers arrived hot off the grill with large baskets of very crispy French fries. The burgers were large, cooked medium as requested, with nice slices of Grafton maple smoked cheese, bacon jam. Lettuce, and Dijon mustard. The burgers are very thick and the roll is soft and grilled nicely. The fries, which were right out of the flyer, stayed crispy through the whole meal. There are a couple of steps up into the restaurant so if you have mobility issues it might be a little bit of a challenge. All in all a great little restaurant with incredible food and great service. The next time we're in the area there may be a return trip.

I wish they had more of the specials listed because it was hard for us to keep them all straight. I started with the fondue for one which was tasty and fun but I would have preferred if it also came with cornichons and that the potatoes weren't fried (it was really heavy and oily with cheese and fried potatoes). Drinks were pretty weak for $26, and the bartender actually forgot to add champagne to one of our French 75s, lol. He did remedy it, though. We looked online for local restaurants to dine at during our stay. Neither my girlfriend or I have ever gone to a French restaurant, so we decided on The Metro Bistrot, due to all the fantastic reviews. I called and spoke with Jay (chef and owner) a week prior to make the reservation. We took an Uber from the hotel, as it's BYOB and brought a couple of bottles of wine. This was a Saturday before a big snow storm the following day. I think due to this, the restaurant wasn't as busy as usual. We ended up being seated in the back room all to ourselves. It was a very nice room that had about 4 tables. Stephanie, our server was an absolute delight! Turns out she works for the hotel as well and she's the one I spoke with when we booked the room. She opened our Beaujolais for us and brought some wine glasses. She kept the bottle chilled in the fridge for us. She went over some of the specials being prepared that night and was able to make some nice recommendations. My girlfriend ended up with the special seafood soup special with a lobster stock as a base. I ordered the escargot. Both were absolutely fantastic. She kept our bread basket filled with wonderful fresh warm bread to soak up all the goodness of the soup and escargot. My girlfriend ordered the boar shank and I ordered the stuffed quail that was stuffed with foie gras and pate. The boar meat fell right of the bone and was some of the most tender meat we've ever had. Both dishes were phenomenal. Jay stopped by our table to chat. He's super nice and even took some photos with us. We ordered 3 different kinds of cheeses prior to ordering dessert. All three we ordered were great! Stephanie also brought us a bowl of crackers to go with the cheese. For dessert, my girl had the cheesecake with an oatmeal crust and fresh berries. I'm not usually one for sweets, unless it Crème Brûlée, so I opted for the Boursin stuffed Shrimp, forgetting it wasn't an appetizer, but a main entree. It was out of this world! All the fish Jay brings in are always fresh and NEVER frozen. He even poured me a small glass of some white wine and it went so well with the shrimp. We cannot wait to go back. The prices are very reasonable and the service and food is second to none. Cheers!
