Only redeeming quality is the setting on the water. Food: Ordered the fish tacos. MX$150 for two tacos. Fish was mediocre at best, breading was heavy and soggy. Service: poor. Our waiter for some reason kept ignoring our request for the check. Took multiple requests. Ambiance: generally vulgar, loud, reminiscent of a Harley motorcycle meet with Caribbean randomness added. Cleanliness: below average Bathroom cleanliness: below average Misc: (1) physical setting behind the restaurant was beautiful overlooking the water from a small ledge. Ha Ha Ha! I am cracking up reading the negative reviews on Coconuts! If you do not like fun, this is not the place for you. If boobs offend...don't stop here. The food is adequate, the drinks are strong. the decorations can be described as tacky, but this place is one of a kind and we loved it! No frills, no bs, just good clean(ish) fun on a beautiful island with a stellar view of the Caribbean sea. My wife, daughters and I had a fantastic time here. It is a perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon drinking, eating and laughing. The shrimp ceviche was my favorite on the island (very simple, clean and tasty). The service is great fun and I will absolutely go back on my next visit. It's a beautiful drive to get here too, even if you don't stop into Coconuts you should drive to the south side of the island. IT'S A TOURIST TRAP! There really is no beach but the view is nice overlooking the ocean. We had 2 tequilas with the shrimp tacos and chips & salsa. The food is OK but the drinks are weak. The problem is that they bring you the bill in pesos or option 2 is to pay in dollars CASH which came out to $120 for what we ordered. I've eaten more in South Beach for less so we were surprised but figured we can pay by CC since I don't carry that much CASH to the "beach". That's when I found out they don't accept CC because they don't have reception for CC machine. Yet the little road side souvenir shops outside their entrance selling little trinkets do accept credit cards. They made me leave my phone (something of value) and drive 30 minutes back to the city of Cozumel to an ATM to get their cash. It's not worth the hassle so avoid this place and keep driving up the road to better locations. read more

Drove out here on a whim. We were driving around the island and my boyfriends parents decided to pick this place. While we were walking up the stairs to get in, a bunch of drunk Guests were walking down telling us how good the margaritas were, and strong. Which was perfect, because that's what we came there for. We sat on as close to the overlook as we could. Our server was very quick and attentive. Our Margarita was great. I thought the alcohol level was perfect. I got tipsy off of one, which is pretty typical for me. So I was happy. My boyfriend got some nachos which were great. A lot of meat and cheese. Great lunch spot! If you rent a car, definitely head to coconuts for ceviche and the blue margarita which is very strong. It is not close to anything but untouched beaches. The view is amazing up high! Nacho, a masseuse can change your life; US 10$ for 15 minute chair massage! The staff is always pretty quiet but the view and the ceviche is a wonderful experience. This is such a fun bar and grill that's located outside of town and it overlooks the ocean. We didn't have food and if you want to get a good buzz going, I recommend getting their blue margarita. I can't remember the name but it was a good size and full of tequila. As we sat there with our friends, enjoying the view and the drinks, a nice local came up to us and made us these adorable grasshoppers out of palms. It was so cool! Our favorite bar and grill on the island. No trip to Cozumel is complete without a visit to Coconuts! Tons of fun every time. Staff is friendly and funny. Great drinks. I recommend the blue margarita! Delicious shrimp ceviche, nachos, guacamole...never had food here I didn't like! Pina coladas are also really good here. Fun atmosphere, not necessarily a place I would take small children, older teenagers would be okay, but there is a sort of adult theme here. Take time to read the funny signs and check out the animals: turtle, birds, dogs, chameleon, and even a crocodile! Beautiful ocean view and beach access. We love Coconuts! Btw, other reviewers have mentioned the "vulgar" atmosphere. It is true that you may be offered to view an album containing photos of woman in various stages of undress. If the human body offends you, simply say no thank you. If however, you find beauty in the human female body, enjoy the album! If you are offended by vulgarity or crude humor, do not go to this place. If animals or barefoot staff at a restaurant is gross to you, I would not recommend. I also would not ever take my kids here... That being said, I and everyone in my group LOVED this place. The drinks were cold, staff was friendly, and the food was surprisingly good! This place only takes cash and I recommend you have pesos. They rip you off with exchange rate to US DOLLARS. Today the exchange rate is 21 pesos for $1. Most local restaurants give 20 pesos to $1, so I was using that rate. This place is using 17 pesos to $1. My bill of 330 pesos was $19US. I was told this was a great place to eat on the other side of the island. I should have left when I walked in. There are way too many tourists! Cheesy music from the US from 60s. I stayed because I was hungry. The service is fast and the waiters are hard working, but be warned again you will get ripped off if you pay in US dollars. I order fish tacos which were 150 pesos each. Two orders and 1 water. The total bill was 330 pesos. The fish tacos were okay. The fish was tiny morsels and not very fresh tasting, but the habanero salsa combined with pico made the fish tacos. Chips and salsa were provided for free. They kept trying to get my husband to open a book, my husband said no, he wanted the check. You have to ask for your check and few times and refuse to take any books they give you. After reading other reviews, glad we kept pushing back on the books. Skip this place. There are better places to eat only 20 minutes away. Never again. The music is very loud here and the coconuts vulgar continues throughout the restaurant. Not a romantic place or a spot to bring kids. read more

Hated this place. $14 USD for a fruity cocktail with watered down alcohol. Drink was supposed to have tequila, rum, gin, etc. - all of the boozes - and I'm certain there was little or no alcohol in it. Very expensive by any standards and a total ripoff bc they screw you on the exchange rate which they jack up. The staff kept trying to get us to show our tits for free tequila shots, no thanks. Coconuts Bar & Grill is not only my favorite bar in Cozumel but hands down one of my favorite of all bars. And no, it's not a gay bar, though the bartender laughingly said he had never been in a gay bar until I showed up with my entourage turning his bar into one. LOL! It's a totally relaxing place with lovely seaside views and easy going laid back atmosphere. As it is on the opposite side of Cozumel from the cruise ship pier, it doesn't get too tourist infested, and because it's not, has bargain basement low prices. I always order a margarita. The bartender only prepares the mix for me. He then plops down a bottle of tequila on the telling me to pour as much as I want, of which I always a lot. Also for food, really great, especially their mixto ceviche which is always fresh and delicious. This is a must see place, quirky and beautifully located on the east coast of the island. The decor is quaint, with humorous signs and old tee shirts and personal memorabilia of past visitors. Chicken and dogs roam freely in and around the restaurant which is reached up a set of steps from the road side. The views from the cliffs are excellent and the place is fun. Four of us had a few starters and a couple of beers at a cost of $55 including tip. The beef nachos were excellent as was the salsa with habanero peppers. They do make a mild salsa for gringos! We had rented a jeep so arrived quite early, beating the cruise ship crowd. Once they arrived the place was pretty crowded. Access is not easy and the toilets are rudimentary! read more

If you have mobility issues, this is probably a no go. It's many stairs, going up the hill and only a rope to hold onto. There are different paths, but I wasn't sure where they all were. Feel like we were definitely "taken for a (tourist) ride"! 6 of us were there on a no dive day on a week-long dive trip. We ordered a couple of drinks each and appetizers. The waiter came with a bill that was almost $300: in other words about 6x the avg of a two couple tab anywhere else. First waiter dropping off the bill said it included tips, everything (I hope the BLank it does! Second waiter a Said it didn't onvl the tip! Successfully guilted one couple to spend more, sadly. I had already worked out that the original bill was almost 40% above menu prices! I said as much This lousy rating isn't about the money spent as a lot to us, it's the feeling of being "had" that prompts this review. A desire to warn off any other tourist. This place is a "ways" from most resorts. If you do end up out there, the beach restaurant next to Coconuts is Much more reasonable, predictable. read more

If you're ever exploring the east side of Cozumel (which you definitely should because it's beautiful and not crowded), you have to stop at Coconuts. It's quirky and an "organized" mess inside, with a sense of serenity and wonder outside. The restaurant is basically a large tent on a cliff. Climb a few stone stairs (accompanied by hilarious signs) to reveal a large tent with a circular bar. The inside of the tent is covered by t-shirts, but you won't be focused on that because there's a dog walking around...along with chickens! Then you spot a parrot at the bar. And later, 2 other parrot cages! This, my friends, is paradise. Paradise only accepts cash though. USD or pesos. The menu is handwritten on a wooden tablet, which just exudes a kick-back-and-relax beach vibe. The drinks are large and delicious. They even made me a special virgin fancy umbrella drink because I was on doctor's orders to avoid alcohol (*silent crying*). The salsa here is a hurts-so-good kind of spicy so be warned! The mixed seafood ceviche was delicious. I ordered the fish tacos (ok) and the boyfriend ordered a fish burger (decent). There's also a hammock near the bathrooms.
