Cozumel's Best Restaurant Value! Great Lemonade, Huaraches & Quesadillas. If you go to Cozumel, and want a true local experience at bargain basement prices, you have to go to Chilangos. Some advice, there are two restaurants named "Chilangos" in Cozumel. Make sure you ask for Taquería Chilangos which has a bright yellow exterior. I've included a video someone posted on youtube commenting on their tamales in particular. I couldn't agree with him more as to the exceptional value.
He doesn't mention the outstanding Freshly prepared lemonade they offer. It's the best I ever had, and they even made it for me with splenda. When we first approached the area, we weren't sure if they were open, however Chef Jesús spoke English, and invited us in with a friendly smile.
Well, somehow we managed to visit Cozumel 3 times prior to finding this gem! We hope our taking a moment to share these details will help you enjoy a similar experience soon.
Chilangos is a family owned and run restaurant. It offers the best restaurant value on the entire island of Cozumel! They have a tremendous variety of high quality ingredients selected in any combination the customer desires to build hand made authentic Huraches, Quesadillas, and Chalupas. It's not luxurious, but the food and atmosphere are extremely clean, tranquil, and very appealing. The owners designed this facility to allow for wonderfully refreshing natural air flow, so maintaining comfort is easy.
It's a dinner and late night dining facility, but far from acoustically noisy. I believe their hours are from 6:30pm - 1am (or until the last customer is served) It may appear to be a counter service environment, but it is indeed full service. The servers who take orders and deliver the food and drinks table-side are very friendly & professional (ask for two tremendously cordial guys named Alejandro & Edwin, and you'll be in wonderful hands).
Be sure to try the freshly squeezed lemonade, and Jamaica's too. They also have a small litany of liquados (a light and refreshing twist between a milkshake and a smoothie).
Here are two tips. Cash only is accepted, but you'll be amazed at how low the prices are. Two can dine easily for far less than $10, and walk out very satisfied with a smile!
Also, the island of Cozumel has two restaurants named "Chilangos". One is an older facility with different owners serving an entirely different menu. It doesn't have the same value or experience to offer, so I can't endorse it. Taqueria Chilangos (the restaurant I'm describing) is a BRIGHT YELLOW Restaurant located on:
Av. Pedro Joaquín Coldwell entre Calle 3 Sur y Morelos
Local 1
Cozumel, Q. Roo, México C.P. 77600
We've returned to the island on several occasions, and have come to really enjoy the members of the family and friends working here, so please take a moment to let whomever you come into contact with know that José, Diana, and Vicky from the U.S. say hello. During every visit to Cozumel, we frequent Chilangos at least every other night.
There are plenty of places to park in the street, and the area is well lit. It's frequented by the locals, and has a heavy amount of to-go volume. On our first visit, we weren't sure if we'd be welcome as tourists, but the family-team couldn't have been kinder to us.
Every year seems to get better. They've recently expanded their freshly prepared tamale menu, however since you'll be overwhelmed with so many fresh ingredients upon walking in, make sure you take a moment to ask about the tamales. They prepare them out of a separate kitchen, however they're honestly the best tamales we've ever had!
They do offer a variety of bottled beers, however you'll really be missing out if you don't try the lemonade. It's literally prepared after you place the order.
Please go, and enjoy the best value in a friendly casual atmosphere on the island of Cozumel. read more
