The grounds are absolutely beautiful, the water is crystal clear, and the whole place feels like paradise. I usually park myself at the swim up bar, make friends with everyone around me, and let the day take care of itself. The staff is AWESOME, and the bartenders are honestly some of the best in Mexico. And don't even get me started on the mango drink. I'm obsessed. Someone needs to check on me because I think about that drink when I'm at home. You'll even get compliments on your cup, so naturally, I'm out here collecting compliments and cocktails. The food is good enough to keep you fueled up between drinks but let's be honest I'm here for the bartenders, the drinks, and the beautiful water. Mr. Sancho's is hands down my favorite thing to do in Cozumel. I cannot wait to go back in March and reunite with my favorite bartenders. At this point, I'm not a tourist. I have been to Paradise Beach before and understand how the all-inclusive package works, including the alcohol service. My concern is not that alcohol is available -- my concern is what happens when guests are drinking to the point that their safety may be compromised. My 25-year-old daughter is currently visiting Paradise Beach with her boyfriend and a female friend. Based on videos posted online, they were taking shots and participating in the "rainbow" drink challenge over approximately five hours. In the videos, they appeared severely intoxicated. They were impaired to the point that I was genuinely concerned they may not have been able to make safe decisions for themselves, especially while in another country and participating in activities such as water excursions. A person who is extremely intoxicated around water or in an unfamiliar environment can be at serious risk of injury or even death. This is not a minor concern. What concerns me even more is how my safety concern was handled by the manager, Manuel. I called the beach club because I was frightened for my daughter's safety and wanted someone on-site to be aware of the situation. Instead of listening, showing concern, or acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, Manuel was rude, dismissive, and told me that I am her mother and she is my responsibility and can drink as much as she wants. That response was extremely disappointing. I understand that adults are responsible for their own choices, but an establishment that promotes unlimited alcohol also has a responsibility to recognize when a guest may be dangerously impaired and vulnerable. A manager's response to a legitimate safety concern should be compassion, professionalism, and a willingness to help -- not dismissal. At the time of writing this, I do not even know whether my daughter made it safely back to the cruise ship, and I am left worried about her well-being. Paradise Beach needs to review both its alcohol service practices and the behavior and training of its management staff. The issue here is not simply that someone drank too much -- the issue is that a safety concern was raised and was not taken seriously by the person responsible for managing the facility.

The vendors aren't very aggressive, but their prices are much higher than the retail stores. The $20 admission gets you a table, chairs and umbrella, as well as your choice of drink. The drink was pretty weak, but it's still a solid deal for the chairs etc. The beach is soft, white sand and the water was crystal clear. The inflatables were nice enough, but older and definitely under inflated. There are kayaks and paddle boards available, as well as jet skis. Beers were nice and cold, much better option for your money than the drinks. I highly recommend the Tacos Aserrīn - so good!

So when I realized the taxi service was taking us to Carlos and Charlie's Beach Club I was excited. We were told showers, towels, umbrellas and beach towels were complimentary. We arrived to a run down shack that could only be considered a beach club the way a broken down Ford Fiesta is technically a car. We received a warm welcome from the hostess and we were told that we needed to buy towels. When we told the hostess that we were told towels were part of the fee the staff all acted as if this was news to them. The chairs were cheap and scratchy and the moment we sat down we were assaulted by a mariachi band, a cigar vendor, a tattoo lady, a woman with a bearded dragon, a man with a parrot, a man with a lemur, a man doing sketchy tequila tastings from a cooler and a solicitation for watersports. We ordered ceviche quesadillas and a round of drinks. We were overcharged for our food and drinks. We were told Cozumel' s exchange rate is mysteriously lower than the rest of Mexico. All the menu prices are in pesos so when I did the conversion each charge was about 25-30% higher than the menu price. At one point I asked the manager 'why don't you just say you are arbitrarily charging me what you want.' NCL is also part of the problem because instead of docking and allowing people to explore the city, they make passengers walk through. Duty Free just to get out of the port. This sign was the most accurate, you would have to be drunk to go to this place. Save your money and book a resort.

So we stopped in. Jungle-By- Tikila is wonderful. There is a dinner deck out back that is not visible from the street. The food was very good with a special shout-out for the EXCELLENT shrimp tacos, the BEST I've had on the island. NOTE - the Yelp map shows the location of Jungle-By-Tikila ad way south of the Tikila Bar. That is NOT correct. Tikila and Jungle-By-Tikila are the same building. Tikila is the name before 5 and J-B-T after 5. I wish they had happy hour prices but that would be my only suggestion.
