He went into detail about Soo Bahk Do and the studio, you can tell he loves what he does. For reference I contacted 3 different places and I didn't feel swayed with any other place. Honestly I wasn't sure my kids would be interested but the bottom line was that this was something they were going to do because I believe children should learn to defend themselves through martial arts. I myself have not done martial arts but I have family and friends that have and still do. From the first class, my kids have loved it! It's all they talk about and they were so excited to show us everything they learned again and again. The program is so much more than martial arts. It nurtures confidence, physical fitness, and respect. Master Cruz and Master Broyles are patient and highly skilled. It is so fun to watch, I love that we as the parents can sit and observe. We couldn't recommend it more highly to any parent looking for a structured, respectful, and empowering activity for their child or themselves. Also, Master Cruz looks just like Jason Statham!

I am amazed how engaged they are in class, how quickly they are learning, and I have noticed they are listening better at home too! My tiny tot is also always asking if it's time for him to go to class!

Greatest day was the day we walked though the DOJO doors. We found our second home for sure. We…read morelove our DOJO family. Sensei Otto and staff are the best mentors for your kids in the area. If you want to train real Karate then this is the place.

I have been going to this dojo for a about six months now…read more Sensei Bob Otto is a very kind and honorable man who puts his students first. I have seen the way he works with the younger students and to help them grow as individuals. They are not only learning karate, but also life skills. How to deal with bullies, how to stand up for themselves, and how to communicate effectively. Bob and his staff really take time with the kids to work with them and help them become the best they can be. I have also seen Sensei Bob Otto and his staff help older adults ease into Karate and the exercises and take their time with them to make sure that they're doing the katas and movements correctly, but also make adjustments if a certain movement is not working for the individual (such as causing pain or discomfort due to not being flexible enough yet - or previous injury). I personally appreciate it when Sensei Otto and staff take the time to show me the proper way to do the katas, strikes, and blocks. I also enjoy the style of karate taught here. Uechi-Ryu Karate-Do. It is a traditional Okinawan karate that is closely related to Southern Shaolin Tiger and Crane Kung Fu. The art has retained a lot of the flowing circular motions seen in Kung Fu. This karate style also shares a similar lineage to Goju-Ryu. This is a very effective karate for learning self defense. In the style there is an inherent focus on conditioning the body for balance and to be able to take hits (if one has to). The blocks learned in this style are also incredibly practical and powerful. They are circular movements and operate kind of like a parry. It takes a bit to learn to do effectively but I can't argue with the practical applications. Sensei Bob Otto also brings other things into the mix to keep things interesting. Sensei Otto is a certified Krav Maga instructor and has some experience in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. He is also a fan of boxing / kick-boxing and will often include drills and techniques from Krav Maga, BJJ, and Boxing/Kickboxing to switch things up, keep things interesting, and as he says "To add more tools to your toolbox". Everyone has been very kind and supportive and has offered me help when I have struggled. This dojo has a very nice family-like atmosphere. I always look forward to classes and always enjoy myself. If you're interested in the martial arts, this is definitely a great place to check out!

Both…read moreof my kids attend the evening classes, and my older one ( now 17) is on the National USA team thanks to coach Smith. She started training with him 11 years ago in the after school program. Unfortunately, now only evening classes are available, no more after school program. But we like it even better: it's less students and those that are there receive lots of attention. Note: this is not the right place if you are soft and discipline is not a priority or if you are just looking for something to do without commitment. Classes are held 3 nights per week ( Mon- Wed) 6 pm beginners and intermediate, and 7 pm is advanced. Weapons class is also offered in the dojo on Thursdays. This is the best thing I've done for my kids! So, thank you!

I figured we'd try it out, but was not expecting much. We are two months in now and I cannot say enough good things about them. My kids are 7 and 9 and we have noticed such positive changes in their attitudes, respectfulness, willingness and desire to help, responsibility, and level of committment. Mr. Smith and his staff converse and interact with them as real people and they are really thriving on it. The staff are patient and helpful with nervous parents as well! This program goes far beyond an after care solution, and we highly recommend it!

BEST KEPT SECRET?? Not really. (A reference to my 2023 posting)…read more After almost 3 years of my high school age son taking lessons here he was suddenly and unexpectedly placed into a class of about 18 children about 6-7 years old. When I spoke with the owner about it that same day, and again with my wife and I the next morning (today) we asked that our 15-year old son be moved back into a class that was age appropriate. Our son is 6 feet tall and 190 lb by the way. When the facility owner continued to try to justify the new program that resulted in this and repeatedly REFFUSED to place him back into his old age appropriate class (that was also training that same day) we told the owner we would have pull him from the class if he could not train and attend his normal practices WITH HIS OWN AGE GROUP, The owner responded by saying, "Then pull him from the program". So we in fact did that just moments ago. I have more I could, say but will reserve those negative concerns as I don't want to pile on, but clearly have an overall different opinion of this venue now that I have been able to see things over a longer course of time. Not to mention the other parental stories I have heard. Thus, I felt the need to clarify my first posting, which has obviously changed. The positive....., the facility is nice!
