Thieves. I signed my…read moreelementary school aged nephew up for a 3-month membership so he could try it out. My nephew lives in the area & I live in California. We have different last names. It took me a while to realize that after the 3-month period ended, I was still being charged. After tracking down Edgard, the owner, he would only communicate via text. After some crazy back-and-forth it turned out HE USED MY CREDIT CARD TO PAY FOR ANOTHER CLIENT'S CLASSES. I realized this, that's right, I realized it, he didn't, after he sent me some screen shots (I'll upload them here), showing the picture and personal information of an adult man, John Meyers, who is decidedly not my elementary aged nephew. Also, please note that that Edgard also sent me private information of one of his clients. What's worse I doubt he realizes what a violation this is. Edgard said he would return my money in a few days. He did not. I asked again after a month he said he needed more time to figure out how with his team how this happened. I told him he could figure that out on his own time. He still did not refund my money. I went to my credit card company and they did refund partially but since some of the charges were so old they would not refund those. They attempted several times to contact Edgard but he would not answer his phone or call them back. His actions are unethical, inept, and with zero regard. Do business with this person at your own risk. **I was able to track down John Meyers and spoke with his wife who had realized that they were not being charged & thought it was odd. After many months they were also unable to get Edgard to speak with them. Unfortunately, even though they know that I paid for their classes, they did not offer to give me back the money either.

They lack parking spaces. I can't wait until they have a building on their own with better parking.

The mediation request was NOT due to personal issues- but the lack of one caused inappropriate interaction to be witnessed. This occurred even after I specifically asked for her to stay because consistency is especially important to children with her type disability. They told everyone that we chose to leave, which we did not. We had been there for FOUR years. I took the time to write this review because my special needs daughter was affected and I don't want that to happen to anyone else.

The practitioners are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. After speaking with one student, he mentioned that it's like a family there which is great. I have met multiple higher belts at other gyms that have left Genesis because their jiujitsu was getting WORSE. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. The 5 star reviews are all fake. DO NOT TRAIN HERE!!! Especially if you are new to jiujitsu. 1. The techniques being taught here are completely incorrect. You will be learning very bad jiujitsu. 2. This place is incredibly cliqy. Wendell the owner loves to claim "family" setting but he has his favorites and loves to micro manage. Not a good place to enjoy yourself while learning jiujitsu. 3. Don't listen to the people who train there. They are either too new to know any better. OR they are one of Wendell's little pawns that follow his every word and believe everything he says. 4. There are no higher belts. Think about it. They have been open a long time and ALOT of higher belts have came and left. Myself included. Because we have been training long enough and have trained at enough places to spot the red flags. 5. Wendell has lower belts teaching techniques that are just as bad if not worse than how Wendell teaches. You are paying full price for bad technique and blue belt teachers who don't know what they are doing.

The class was at like 12 on a Thursday and ended roughly around 1 I think. Robert greeted us at the door, extremely friendly and encouraging. I signed a waiver. He helped me with my wraps, I brought my own gloves (they have ones you can purchase or borrow as well). Warm up was jump roping, jumping jacks, then a bob and weave exercise focused on technique. There was encouraging feedback throughout the class, we did combos with a partner that involved high kicks, jabs, hooks, etc. Then we did core work. I read another review that said the class is super tight knit and that is very true. I don't know if my experience would've been different had I not accompanied a long time member however I do know that I really enjoyed the vibe of the class, Robert and how challenging the workout was. A note: the doors are left open to invite in a breeze, so there's no AC. Be comfortable with pouring sweat- it lets out ALLL the toxins. I was very impressed to get a text from Robert thanking me for visiting the class and offering 20% off anything from the pro-shop. You can tell he runs this business with a lot of heart. He's super knowledgeable and very motivational. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely return!
