I went there yesterday with my aunt for the first time, and it was such a lovely experience! The decorations are gorgeous (all the flowers!), and the food was delicious. We weren't sure on just how spicy level 2 spice would be, so we requested for the chili on the side, which they were happy to oblige. We even took the left over spice home! Been here twice and it's been a good experience each time. Very friendly staff, nice ambiance, and the food has been pretty good. The ingredients are fresh, there's a good complexity of flavor, and their bubble tea is pretty great. I will say that their definition of spicy is on the lower end of things - I got a 4 (out of 5) star item and it wasn't spicy to me at all. But, I commonly order the hottest spice level on the menu (it's just important to not go overboard in a new place). When I did get a 5 star spice, it was good, but maybe a little overpowering to the taste of the dish - so the spiciness isn't blended in with the other flavors. I have been here multiple times and it's always been a great experience. Tried many dishes, noodles based, rice based, curries and they are all awesome. Great flavors, as spicy as you wish and with really fresh ingredients. Service is really good, very attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself is very well decorated, plants everywhere and beautiful colors. This place stands up to any Thai place I have been in Philly city center. We went there on a Friday night . We had a reservation at 8 pm . When we reached their there were few people already waiting. The place is very nice with plants everywhere and people are enjoying laughing and drinking it was very cool suburb location . But it started to become obvious to us that making reservation is not a guarantee in this place that you will be getting a table immediately . People who had reservation before us were still waiting . The biggest problem in this place is BYOB . It is fine you take a bottle of wine and drink but every table we saw has 3-4 bottles of wine. People did not want to leave their table even though they finished their food and paid their bills . They had to finish their bottles of wine . One table had 4 people drinking 3 bottles of wine . The restaurant should not allow this . BYOB does not mean u come to the restaurant to get drunk and occupy the table for whole night because you order food . Anyways after waiting for exactly 27 mins after 8 pm we had our table . Food wise I have no complains we were so hungry looking at other people We just ate fast . Service was pretty quick since they knew we waited for our reserved table . The server where very friendly and polite and doing the best they can. But Since we waited so long it Kinda spoil the evening as it was raining we could not go to other restaurant . So I would recommend you to make a reservation while going their first especially dinner Thursday - Saturday and double check just to make sure you will be getting a table . I would say food wise it's 5 star restaurant . I would say it's one of the best Thai food we ever had very delicious . We got a 10% discount for our wait but we really didn't appreciate it . I've been here a few times. The upstairs was recently redecorated. It was really comfortable and inviting. Service was prompt. Ordering was done over my cell phone, which was half convenient and half annoying. The food was really great....as always. I definitely would have given this place a five star review but I was really put off by the fees. It felt like a total money grab. Mandatory 20% gratuity for a service who doesn't take our order for a party of two. $5 corking fee, which I guess is a $6 corking fee when you include the mandatory gratuity. I would have deducted it, but it wasn't up to me. Then a convenience charge for using a credit card. If they wouldn't have been so opportunistic with the fees, and just charged me an extra $20 straight up, I wouldn't have minded. Maybe I'm just being petty, but three stars is all you get. read more

Nickel and dime place , you order yourself on your phone . Find a waiter inside go inside to pay . They add 20 % for tip automatically. Charge you for a take out contain 1$ per 3"x3" box ,sauce on the side 4 dollars when you could of had it on your meal and ask for it on the side . I am glad this restaurant has survived as I frequently ate there prior to the pandemic. Went for my anniversary; party of four. Ambience nice with lots of lights and plants. Pleasant atmosphere that feels "tropical.". However, can only order via QR code, which makes selecting things from the menu a bit of a headache. Waiter shows up and disappears, so the "service" is largely what you do virtually on line when reviewing the menu. Others in my party seemed to enjoy their meals, but my was a bust-- VERY dry chicken, under cooked veggies and bland rice. Didn't complain, but when we got the bill there was an automatic tip of 20% added without giving you the option to choose yourself. For a party of four with almost no service, seemed like a joke. I don't mind topping for good food and service, but these need to be earned not added. To make matters worse, there was no one to address the issue with as we were told that the manager had "left" se we had to pay online using our cell phone. First time in Narberth and tried out this quaint thai restaurant for lunch. Whoever runs it must have a green thumb for orchids. Beautiful inside and the soft music overhead adds to a relaxing eating experience. Food was authentic and layered with flavors. Coconut soup was simple, fresh and satisfying. Red curry with tofu was a good lunch size, layered with flavor and just enough spicy heat. Good kids menu -the chicken and beef satay was devoured by my daughters. I disagree with some post that this place is overpriced. $11.50 for a perfectly cooked lunch entree with good service and surroundings is not bad at all. read more

I went to Coco Thai Bistro for lunch yesterday with a friend and it was fabulous! The lunch special is terrific - for $9.95 you can get a soup, appetizer and entree. I'm a big Thai food fan and having lived in San Francisco for nine years and eaten my way through all the best Thai restaurants there can say that Coco Thai ranks up there with the best. I've been to Coco Thai several times previous for dinner and have always had a wonderful experience with the service (very attentive and accommodating) and the food is exceptional. I usually trade entrees with my husband half-way through a meal and each time we've gone to Coco Thai I've had to keep trading back and forth because I couldn't decide which entree I liked better - they've been so delicious! Soups - I love the lemon grass soup with chicken and their coconut soup is super authentic (and very rich) Appetizers - I've tried their turkey dumplings which are moist and succulent with a tangy somewhat spicy dipping sauce. Entrees - I've enjoyed all their curries (and to an earlier post, did not find them excessively hot - just the right amount in fact). I'm also quite addicted to their drunken noodles. We had a special duck dish one night that was out of this world. Dessert - The mango sticky rice is to die for. That said, mango is my favorite fruit and I love the texture of sticky rice so this dessert is totally up my alley. I have been known to stop in just to get a mango sticky rice "snack". I have been coming here for years, generally 2-3 times/month, and always enjoyed the food. Although their food isn't bad, it's not nearly as good as it used to be. They became very popular and many, including my family and me, considered them to have the best Thai food in the area. I think that they felt business was so good that they can lower quality and cut portions significantly, while raising their prices, and it won't affect their business. It's attitudes like that which destroy businesses. I hope they survive and thrive, but my gut tells me based on their actions, they won't. The food here is very, very good. We had two appetizers, and for main entrees we had two curry dishes. All quite good. Our waitress was very pleasant and friendly. So why only 2 out of 5 stars? Well, like many restaurants these days, they don't like giving out paper menus. They want you to use your smart phone. This can be a problem. What if you don't have one? What if you forgot it? What if you are an older person and are not comfortable accessing a menu in this manner? But then the real kicker came. The waitress informed us that we actually had to order from our smart phone. We could not get ours to work, so she had to let us use hers. I asked our waitress, isn't this inconvenient for the customer? She said, well, our prices sometimes change, and the price changes would not be reflected on the paper menu. She also said they have different specials each night, and they would not be reflected on the paper menu. Guess what? When your prices change, print new menus! As for daily specials, have the server announce what they are when she/he takes your order. Restaurants have been functioning like this for centuries without any problems. Again, she was a very nice young lady, but I felt bad for her having to defend the boneheaded ordering system the owner has implemented. This system may make things easier for the restaurant (although I do not see how, if the waitresses have to spend hours explaining it to customers), but it is not at all customer friendly. Why make it hard for customers to spend their money?? We will not be returning simply because it is too frustrating to order food here. read more

This rating is for service. The food that made it to our table was fine. In fact, the menu is full of great choices and the food was attractive and decent. However, despite the fact that we told our waitress we had a movie to go to and a time frame (1 hour) our dinner took 45 minutes to reach the table at a time (5:30) when there were only two other parties in the restaurant. They obviously forgot to get the order to the kitchen and only did so when we inquired why the service was so slow. In addition, one meal was never delivered to the table. The restaurant staff response to these mistakes was not appropriate for the poor level of service. We can walk there so obviously it's a great choice for us. Food is fine - last visit it was actually very good. And spicy as requested. However waaaay overpriced for the portion size. Three solid stars and an additional star but the great kids menu. Wonderful restaurant. They give a nice amount of diverse vegetables with their entrees along with a nice amount of protein portion as well. Had the green curry and pad thai. The flavors are good and the curry had a good balance of thickness to it. The food was clean in taste. Hardly any msg or very little (sidenote, there are some key Asian sauces that are hard to find without msg so sometimes its unavoidable to have some msg in certain dishes). Also had the peach bubble tea. The peach flavor was fun and delicious but would def. reccommend going to a bubble tea shop instead to get the right consistency of bubble milk tea. Staff is friendly. It's a small place and the food is a little pricy but it's always good and I always enjoy sitting outside enjoying nice weather with my pad Thai or duck rolls. I really like their crab fried rice and My personal favorite are the duck rolls. I'm a sucker for duck and they get it right. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. The restaurant is clean and it's just a nice little place to take a friend for dinner in the little down town area of Narb. Only down side is the price. You can go to other Thai restaurants within a short drive that provide the same experience at just a little lower prices. The food is always delicious but the waitress was so rude. We brought our friends for the first time. We sat outside as no tables upstairs. Our waitress wore a Red Bulls tank top. She yelled at us right away that the kitchen would be closing soon. I had called ahead and whoever I spoke to said it was closing at 8:30 and we were there at 7:00. It's a byob but we asked for 2 extra glasses beyond 4 wine for cocktails and you would think I was asking for the moon. My friend can't have dairy or coconut cream and she was rude when we asked menus. We were literally afraid of her . Food pricey with all the rice extra then the protein. We just said we will give a smaller tip since she was angry and rude but then a 20% charge was on the bill for service. I have been there before and never saw that nor was it stated on their online menu. I wanted to show my friends the upstairs and the waitress barked we can't go up there. The owner and chef came out and she gave us a tour. She was lovely and saved the dinner. I will never order from this restaurant again. I place a take out order at 6:35 pm this evening and was told the order would be ready at 7:20 pm. At 7:14pm I got a text stating they were running 25 minutes behind, but after checking in I was told 8pm, then 8:30 and finally got my order at 8:49. When I got my order home 10 minutes later, the soup, dumplings, and rice noodles were at 71 degrees, room temperature. To add insult to injury, when I called the restruant to complain about the cold food, I was told I had choices and was hung up on. To be upfront, I'm not going to take too much time to write this review; rather, I'll probably put the same amount of effort and interest in writing this that the waitstaff spent on us this evening. First, the ambience is neither funky nor hip, but it is odd. The seating consists of folding chairs at used office desks, and tonight, dying roses were adorning the table. The menu is limited; when I asked for brown rice, they informed me that they serve just one kind - white. Well, I'll deal, I thought and hoped that the entree itself, a ginger mushroom dish with tofu, would be worth it. When they brought out my meal, it was filled with unexpected surprises that were not listed on the menu - broccoli and zucchini. Now had I known that zucchini and broccoli would be added to the dish, I would never have ordered it, but I just figured I'd remove them. After taking those out, there wasn't much left to the dish, since the tofu portion of the dish contained just 5 tiny tofu cubes. Once I had removed the offending vegetables, I proceeded to start eating the entree, which turned out to already be cold... and bland and watery as well. I have yet to figure out where the ginger entered into the dish; it seems like that was forgotten. Or replaced with extra water, I couldn't tell. My companion had recommended that I tell the server, but she was far more attentive to a gentleman visitor to the establishment, and I realize that to do so would likely have gotten me nowhere, regrettably. Would I recommend this restaurant? If cold, bland, watery dishes with surprise ingredients are as enticing to you as servers who are all over the customers at the next table, have I got the place for you! read more

As other reviewers have pointed out, the fees at Coco Thai Bistro are annoying and not customer friendly and the service is seriously lacking. While most of the food is good it's not fabulous, and some of the dishes are bland. To dine in you're automatically charged 20% gratuity, and this for having to painstakingly place orders on your phone -- with no help from the very unfriendly server who didn't smile once and made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Other annoying fees include a convenience charge for using a credit card, $2.00 per takeout box (without notifying us when we asked for them) and a $5.00 corkage fee. I understand a corkage fee when you bring your own wine to a place that serves alcohol but not when it's a BYOB -- AND our bottle was a twist off that we opened. As for the food, the lemon grass soup was very good and most people seemed to enjoy their meals. However the Evil Fried Rice with shrimp was barely spicy, the rice was dry and the entire dish was bland and not at all worth $25. The shrimp dumplings were good but not worth $11 for only three. Perhaps people do better with takeout and not all the fees and poor service, but we won't be ordering from here. There are plenty of other better places with better food, larger servings for the same price and staff/owners that appreciate our business. Coco Thai Bistro has some of the best Thai food in the area, and most certainly on the Main Line, and Definitely in Narberth. The food is all absolutely delicious and the chef is not only terrific but is a sweetheart as well. Jackie, the owner, is absolutely terrific. She runs a great restaurant and one of the coolest ladies out there :-) The restaurant offers really outstanding food but without a pretentious interior. It's definitely a lovely little establishment, too; it's not dirty or dingy. Thoughts: -Try any of the HOMEMADE ice creams. They're all amazing. -I always get the Pad Thai. It's OUTSTANDING. They'll spice it up to order. -It has take-out, and you can call your orders in. -It's BYOB, which is something Narberth REALLY needs. read more

By asking that simple question, she made sure she wasn't giving egg to a strict vegetarian/vegan. Though I'm a meat-atarian anyway so it doesn't matter to me. This used to be one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants but due to recent changes I won't be returning. One of my favorite aspects of this little BYO was how quiet and serene it was, even when every table was full and some of the tables even had children. There was something about the pleasant lighting and serenity that made everyone just a little quiet. Not anymore. The redecorated first floor restaurant was noisy and unpleasant due to the very noisy open kitchen which is busy filling take-out orders. It's stressful having that much noise, and my husband and I don't enjoy having to raise our voices for dinner conversation. There are no paper menus, and you have to use a QR code to access the menu by phone. This doesn't bother me, but my husband hates it, and only after we struggled with poor cell reception did a server finally come over to tell us they have free Wi-Fi. The app they use is annoying, with poor navigation and some annoying bugs. I would have liked to talk to a server about our options but even though the restaurant was almost empty, she was hurried and had no time to talk with us. On top of this, they automatically add a 20% tip. A tip is a "gratuity", a gift one gives the server for good service, and something one can feel good about giving a hard-working person. I often tip at near 20% or more especially post-covid. But having that gift automatically added to the bill just feels wrong. In fact, everything about this place feels wrong. With nickel-and-diming on the menu, and automatic 20 percent tip, it's priced like a high-end restaurant but without any of the ambience, service, or amenities. read more
