I came here to remove my gel tips from a different salon and get a basic manicure. I haven't had tips for a long time so I'm not an expert. The other times I've had them taken off, they were removed with a power file tool. My manicurist here took the gel color off with the power tool, then used a metro card to take the tips off. It seemed a little odd and definitely hurt but I didn't complain because I figured it might cause less damage to my nails than the tool would. Pros: my manicurist, though quiet, was very sweet. She did a good job and I was happy with my manicure Cons: the women at the front weren't very nice and didn't seem to know what I meant when I was asking to have gel tips removed. I think they originally told me it would cost $21 and I was charged $22. I didn't get a mini massage while my nails were drying. MAJOR Con: I paid attention to the sanitary situation based on the other reviews I had read. There was a UV machine for the tools in the back but I didn't see anyone use it. After my manicure, I watched the woman who did my nails walk over with the tools to do a pedicure-- the tools were never sanitized in between. This is really the only reason why I won't be coming back. read more

Coco Ruby is a good location to get your nails done in the garment district. The prices are higher than some places and they are a bit slow. I have only gotten acrylic fills here but they always look really nice. The staff is friendly and attentive. They have about 8 drying stations so I have never had a problem getting seated for the fill or drying. The space is clean and prices are clearly labeled on the wall. They only accept tip in cash so come prepared for that. They have a wide variety of colors to choose from as well as types of nail polish. They do have facials and massages but I have not tried either of those services yet. They are located on the second floor of their building so ring the bell to be let in. They do offer free wifi which is convenient as most nail salons do not offer this in the area. read more

Coco Ruby Nail & Spa - Acrylic fill $35 - Massage Near Me - New York, New York

Came here on my lunch break for a pedicure. It was a bit hard to find, so keep your eyes peeled. It's a few steps off the corner of 36th and 8th, located on the second floor. So keep your eyes peeled! Even though it was 1:45pm on a Friday, I was able to be taken right away. The peach walls are a bit of an odd color choice, but the place looked exceptionally clean. The chairs were a tad bit worn at the arm rests, but they're the most comfortable pedi chairs I've ever been in and the massage options on the remote are WAY more than anywhere I've ever been! I really got a great massage in that chair. Claudia paid great attention to detail when it came to my cuticles and polish application. The massage of my legs and feet actually felt like she had a strategy, rather than just the absent-minded and half-hearted rubbing I've gotten in other places. It was a bit quick for my liking, as I was in the chair at 1:45 and out of the chair at 2:05 on the nose, it was okay because like I said, it was on my lunch break. Prices were exceptionally competitive. $20 for a pedicure (back home in NJ, it's $25!) and $11 for a manicure. Gel prices were competitive, too. Another thing that stuck in my brain was that all of the employees spoke to each other in English. I never mind when staff at a salon speaks English as a second language, but often feel self-conscious that they might be talking to each other about me when I answer a question, only for my tech to immediately turn to another tech and start speaking in their native language. Whether it is founded or not, it was something that just made me a bit more comfortable. Highly recommend this place and will totally be back! read more

Went to Coco Ruby on a whim since I had to catch a train near Penn Station. I walked in and was served right away, which was great. It wasn't the nicest nail place I had been too, but I trusted the Yelp reviewed I ended up reading before heading in. I was a little nervous about the cleanliness, but for a $11 manicure that was quick I can't complain. My regular manicure (just normal Essie polish) lasted almost two full weeks. I was SHOCKED. I've never had a regular manicure last so long, even at one of the nicest salons in the city. I was so pleased to see that it was worth the trip. Definitely will go back if I am near Penn again, but I don't think I would go out of my way to come here as it is not in my normal neighborhood. read more

The older lady does a great gel manicure and the place is never crowded so it isn't stressful or over priced. However lately they are very rude not good service and I will not be coming back sadly as it usually it my go to spot. The hand massages and foot massages for the mani pedi are way too short they don't really try and then expect you to tip them well. read more

Went here yesterday 6/15/16 got a standard pedi and a tip set. The woman who did my pedicure was great. My only complaint about the pedicure is my feet felt a little rough when I got home and I had to use my pumice stone. I don't know if it was the tool she used or the amount of force. The eldest woman did my full set and I am EXTREMELY pleased with the outcome. Very very neat. I will definitely be going back. TIP: THe give you 5% off if you pay with cash. read more

I messaged this salon mid-day on Thursday asking if they happened open availability for after work (5:00pm). No appointment was necessary and was told to come right in. When I walked in, four nail technicians were playing on their phones. Three other technicians were busy helping customers. The nail clippers and other tools did not seem clean. I asked for my nails to be round and she made them square. No big deal. The nail polish looks sloppy. I mentioned to the technician that her hair was falling into my nails while they were wet. She fixed the nail but didn't move her hair away from the front of her. It kept happening and ultimately, I have a mark on my middle nail from where her hair landed. When she was done with my nails, she washed the tools in the sink with water. She did not clean them properly!!! I had my nails painted gel two days ago and I already have multiple nails that have chips. Reviews on yelp stated that you get a discount when you pay cash. I wasn't offered that. Gel costs $30.00. I will never go back!!! read more

I just got my nails done here today and I have to say I am thrilled with how they came out!! Perfect shape and length I wanted. I forgot to ask for technicians name and I'm so upset cause she was perfect. The place isn't big,but it's clean and quite you can really relax there and let your mind drift. It's not close to where I live but I will defiantly be coming back! Well worth the price! Side note: a woman did come in and ask how long the wait will be, the technician that was doing my nails was really focused on me and when she looked up to see who was available she said right now, but she was mistaken. It was an honest mistake that the lady took way to personal and called the technician a liar and dishonest. I think she was plain rude and I made sure to let the technician know it was a mistake and not to take it to personally. She said sorry to the woman more then once. read more

I have been here for 2 yrs and always thought this was an average place for the price of gel nails. $30 for basic gel was not a bad deal for the location and the outcome. However today, I had very impatient and rude manicurist that made me change my thoughts about this place. The manicurist did not communicate rather just forced to my wrist to move at her convenience. Hello, you can say "please turn/move your hand" I waited and sat patiently until my nails were all done... only to see bubbles and even pieces of little strings found under the top coat. When I mentioned this to the manicurist, she said she wasn't able to see the mistakes then eventually the owner came to fix my nails. I also received an oddly weird look by the manicurist when I was paying and mentioned what I wanted to be added as a tip. Should I feel obligated to tip to this rude lady with awful service?? I wasn't asking for a much. I know what kind of place I walked into, because I have been here for two years. Yet no one apologized and instead returned with horrible service recovery. I will NOT be returning to this place. read more

I work right around the corner so this place is extremely convenient for manicures and pedicures. Many times, I go during my lunch break and they have me in and our within 45 minutes. I'm very picky when it comes to my nails and toes, and Mada never disappoints! The price for a gel manicure is only $31.00, which is extremely cheap considering the location. Although this nail salon is not the cleanest, they get the job done and my nails look absolutely perfect each time I leave. Without a doubt, would highly recommend! read more

I absolutely loved this place! Went in for a basic pedicure and gel-manicure, and both came out perfectly. I went there this morning cuz I happened to get 40 minutes before my next meeting. Probably I was the first client of the morning so they took me right away. The job was ok but I felt very unwelcome. When I tipped the operator(over 20% btw) she didn't even bother looking at me to say Thank you. So rude! That was really weird considering the fact that I work at this kind of business and very well aware what the standards are. Never again read more

I have been looking for a nail place for about 6 months in Jersey/NYC and I know I am picky but gel manicures aren't cheap so they should be good. I cannot rave enough about this place and I relied on yelp review to lead me there so I thought it was only fair to review. The pedicure was pretty on par as far as pedicures go but the gel manicure is what will have me going back. She took her time and was super meticulous and didn't rush me at all. The only question will be do they last 2-3 weeks which I will most certainly update when I find out. read more

Best gel manicure I have had in a long time! I walked in without making an appointment in the late afternoon on a Sunday and waited about 20 min for a nail tech to become available. But that's okay because one of the ladies gave me a few trays of colors to choose for my manicure and it took me a while to decide on one! There were so many options and they use Essie and OPI so you know the quality is great too! My nail tech (whose name I forgot to get) was very careful and sweet when answering all of my questions. The gel manicure ($31) took about 20 minutes and the color and quality looked amazing! After my manicure, my boyfriend and I both got the hot stone pedicure ($31) and both ladies were so nice and friendly. We both loved the hot stones but I wish they used them more, the actual hot stones were used for about 5 minutes. But the leg massage that came with it was very relaxing and the massage chairs were great too. I only took away a star because I felt it was a little cold in there especially by the windows where the pedicure chairs and driers were. Also I heard one of the older ladies complaining about another nail tech in Korean to the woman doing my manicure and they argued for a bit, which made me feel a little uncomfortable. read more

Coco Ruby Nail & Spa - bad lighting but gel manicure! she got the exact shape and color I asked for! - Massage Near Me - New York, New York

I have not been back here yet- but I must write another review with a docked star because several silver strips I had on my nails started to peel off within a week. I am not sure why that happened- perhaps top coat did not seal it all the way around? By 10th day, only 3 fingers had intact silver strips. Most fingers' strips were completely peeled off, and a couple were halfway off. I admit I never told them about it- I never called to complain about it so I don't know if they would have offered to fix it or not. But I thought the sheer fact that any part of the gel mani lasted such a short time- no matter how beautiful it looked- means it is fair to dock a star for it. Just IMO. Dragana did good work otherwise though and I would def try her again if I need my nails done in midtown againm read more

I've come here twice- first time they did a good job on my mani/pedi so I stopped in on my way home one night when I was in desperate need of a mani but had forgotten to book at my regular place. They've added a number of new manicure stations so the space is now very crowded feeling. Ok I can deal with this if it minimizes the wait time. My main complaints were that my nail technician was on her phone the entire time which I felt was unprofessional nor did she soak my nails or have me wash my hands which I felt was unhygienic. There was no way to even communicate this to her since she was on the phone. I will not be coming back. read more

One of the only reliable places in midtown that does acrylic nails. It's not "hood" but it's also not the place you go for ambiance! But they will give you a great shoulder massage during the last 10 mins of your appointment! Not a bad option for acrylic nails in midtown. read more

You kinda get what you pay for here. It's an $11 manicure in complete silence aside from the manicurist speaking to the other workers in Spanish (well that was mine at least). She didn't cut my nails down the length I requested but instead left them really long and was really rough on my cuticles. The polish isn't quite covering all of the nail and they dump you at the drying station. After 15 minutes and everyone else leaving before me, I finally just left. It had been an hour and I tried opening a box and it indented the polish on the top so I'm not sure if she didn't do the top coat correctly or not. The next morning there's also a chip and on the same nail I see a crack along the side so it's not going to last at all on that one. On the plus side, they did take me in immediately whereas no other salon was taking walk-ins. read more

Amazing value! My gel nails looked so pretty for 2.5 weeks. The color option here is awesome. The salon is easy to find. I still can't believe it was only $35 for the most beautiful, clean set of gel nails. I will be coming back here whenever I'm in Manhattan! read more

The first time I've been here was based on Yelp reviews. This was close to work so I wanted to give it a try. I love it here!! The first time I had a cute little old lady do my French manicure. Went in for a French gel manicure, the owner took her time making sure my cuticles were flawless before applying any polish, took great care every step of the way; went over each white line until it was perfectly straight and even. My nails came out beautifully crisp, French mani lovers you know exactly what I mean. My only concern was she went over the lines so many times that it started to get too thick, maybe next time it'll be better. Overall a great experience, down the block from work, $35 (reasonable) and nice Korean ladies :) read more

I have mixed feelings regarding my experience here. On the plus, the salon is very large and there are plenty of staff members, I didn't have to wait when I walked in for a leg wax and gel manicure. The wax was good - quick and painless. They had a nice selection of gel colors and my manicure is still going strong after a grueling 4 days (hey, I've had gel that didn't even make it overnight). My big gripe, though, is that after each coat, I had one finger nail with a little crumb or glop of something under the polish. Normally, I wouldn't mind but for a gel mani, I would be stuck for weeks with these little globs. Each time I would point it out, and each time the technician would scoff a little, imply that I messed it up, then try to half-ass fix it. At least 4 times she had to fix a nail. One of the nails was entirely ruined and she had to scrape all the gel off and redo all coats. I shouldn't have to police the work; I am not sure if she was just lazy or had trouble seeing -- I might come back but not to the same manicurist. read more

Coco Ruby Nail & Spa - This is a regular manicure after a week! Not even a chip and they aren't gel. No other manicure has ever lasted this long, glitter or not. - Massage Near Me - New York, New York

I came in here, because as an LA girl I was not use to walking 13-16 miles on a daily basis, and my feet were begging me for a little TLC. I came in the lady manning the front desk spoke broken English so she didn't really understand what I was trying to ask her, she brought in another lady, who tried to help me find a color. I wish I had gotten her name, but she was the only Serbian woman there, and she was very sweet and attentive. After picking the color she took me to start me off with my pedicure, she started the hot water, and it was heaven for my feet. A second manicurist came to help her file my nails while she worked on my feet (bless her soul), after soaking, massaging my legs, and rubbing it with a hot smooth stone, she wrapped them with a lotion, while she did my toes. She then took me to the station to get my nails done, she was very sweet, we had a great conversation, which helped pass the time, and she even recommended some great places to try while I was in town. This was done while I visited my home away from home, NYC, on 07/12/2015, and my nails haven't chipped or cracked like they do after a week(which usually happens to me even though I get gel) my co worker complimented my nails earlier this week thinking I had just gotten my nails done, which should tell you something. For people who enjoy luxury, this isn't the place for you because it's not swanky looking, but I will come back when I return to visit, because customer service, and quality are what's more important to me. I hope that when I come back the young woman from Serbia is still working there. They used a watermelon pink color from Essie on my nails. The salon is on the second floor. read more

TL;DR: don't go for the ambiance or customer service, but if you need a quick & quality nail job during your lunch break in TSQ, this is your place order of events: * called salon at 10:30am for a 12pm gel-mani + regular pedi appointment * 12:01 arrived at salon, asked if my request could be done in under an hour (yes!) * chose mani color in pedi chair while another technician prepped my fingernails for gel * (forgot to pick pedi color so right before color hopped down and grabbed that!) * pedicurist was pretty rough with the tools & rude, spent ~20 seconds on each foot w/pumice * gel manicurist was silent but fantastic, did exactly what i wanted so i have no complaints overview: * yes, the technicians are rude and definitely talk about you * impressive gel mani + pedi in under an hour * it's NYC people, don't expect smiles & rainbows at a nail salon in TSQ! * overall really happy with my nails, so i'll be back read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. They thought this was an acceptable gel manicure and were mad that I was upset. Spent $100+ on getting a gel extensions here. For two weeks, they had to fix my nails 4x. The first time my nail broke, they fixed it for free. The second time, they charged me $7 (which is fine.) The third time they charged me $20 to redo one nail and simply GLUE the second nail. Today I went to fix the nail they glued and didn't feel like redoing and they charged me $10.50! DONT GO HERE IF YOU WANT EXPECT TO BE CHARGED THE SAME PRICE. And to add insult to injury, the ladies were extremely rude and unprofessional. I got my nails done there by an elderly lady. She was very meticulous and my nails are well shaped and the painting was very even too. I would return for the 7 day polish (which i think are $14 based on a sign stuck on the display). My nails chipped the next day which is my norm for regular polish. read more

For $10.50 for a manicure, I should've expected this but the raving reviews for this salon really had my hopes up. Service was definitely fast since they are completely okay with walk-ins. However, my manicurist was young, inexperienced, and not well trained. Since she didn't speak any English, it was also difficult to communicate with her. She was extremely rough on my cuticles and cut my thumb pretty badly that it bled and swelled. She did disinfect it but boy, that really hurt!
