I came to this location after work on a Friday for a gel mani and basic pedi. They saw me pretty quick on a busy evening. I wasn't happy with their services though. The place is highly unsanitary. The woman at the reception had on old gloves that she did my gel manicure with. She also alternated between my manicure and payments. I requested she painted my nails thin but they look blobby. They aren't smooth. She also wiped my hands with a moldy smelling hot towel and massaged lotion onto my smelly hands with her unclean gloves. When time came for my pedi I requested she change her gloves. She refused and got someone else to do it. This lady scrubbed my callouses poorly and painted my toes too quick. I asked if she did a clear top coat, she lied saying she did. She did not. The paint job was so sloppy I asked her three times to clean it up. Needless to say, the work did not last me two whole days and I did sit an hour for my toes to dry (with the machine constantly turning off). They also didn't line the tub with a bag or anything :/ I understand they work long hours hunched over. I paid and I tipped both people servicing me. Will never be returning. read more

Decent nail salon! It doesn't feel like a "high end" salon, it feels like a classic neighborhood nail place. Calming piano music in the background. Anita was nice and did a quick and efficient gel manicure. She checked in if I liked the shape, color, and finish before proceeding and I really appreciate that. Thanks! Gel manicure was $31.50 (including tax, not including tip). read more

I had a flight at 6:30pm from EWR so with an hour + on my side I decided to go for a manicure / pedicure treatment before I hop on the express train to the airport. I felt a little reserved with other reviews but happy I decided to drop in. The feeling is so calm when you walk up the stairs, you forget even if only for a moment...you are in busy midtown Manhattan. The best part was the basalt hot stone used for my pedicure and relaxing hand massage. Amazing work and great color selections. This is my new favorite place :-) read more

After looking at all the negative reviews on yelp, I still decided to give this place a shot since it was the closest nail salon near me and also super reasonable. I'm glad I went because I had a great experience. I went during my lunch break so around 1230 pm and it was pretty empty. Was told to pick a color and got seated right away. The girl that did my mani was sweet and did a decent job. For $11 you can't beat this deal. The place was cute and decently clean. Overall I'm pretty happy with their ambience and service and will definitely come back. read more

I came here with my wife. I'm not an expert by any means. Sort of a nail virgin (5th time). Had a manipedi done with foot massage and shoulder massage. It was fantastic! Shop is clean. Staff is courteous and professional. I was very impressed with their attention to their work. We came mid day during the week so they were not busy. Highly recommend. read more

I have been here numerous times - it's like that - oh man! I need my nails done NOW! - scenario. Nothing fuzzy about this place. You walk in, and get it done. You don't come to have a spa feeling. It's very utilitarian, in the most basic way. From multiple nicks, to bubbles in the gel polish, and other polish imperfections... I'm so disappointed in the gel mani I received. When I pointed out the imperfections, the technician stared at me blankly. To my horror (something I didn't see before), after she was done with me, she went to wash the mani tools: just using water!! No blue/green liquid that takes cooties away!!! WHAAAT??? I paid, left, and will not be back. Ladies, every technician can have a bad mani session, however, I do not recommend this place based on the hygiene. Stay away. There are other places around. read more

Have you ever had your nails done by Japanese ladies? Cause I have and it was MAGICAL. I usually hate going to the nail salon but this experience was different. JULIE is a master of nails. She did everything so neatly, paid attention to every little detail, no matter how small and she kept everything clean and dust free. I am completely impressed by her. She was considerate of me having sensitive skin and I can honestly say that for the first time, I was relaxed at a nail salon. She a lot more than she needed to do, and in the end it was cheaper than anything I pay in Houston. Best nail job I have ever had and the most I have ever tipped for a refill! read more

I got acrylics with shellac here. It has been a little over a week & my acrylic nails are pealing up to the point where I had to buy nail glue to glue the nails back on. My shellac has chipped in a nail & there seem to be bubbles in the paint job. The ladies are nice & it is a clean salon. But I paid $90 for nails to not even last a week. I had heard great things from friends, but even my friend who came with me is experiencing her nails pealing up. I'm very disappointed because the design is cute but can't even last 10 days. read more

This review is long overdue. I've been coming here for almost two years now, and I always leave with flawless manis. Their gel manicures are $30, and worth every penny because they last forever (3+ weeks) I've also gotten pedis here and they were good - the massage chairs are bomb. I find that it's either packed or nearly empty, but call ahead to make a reservation! Now for some tips, - bring cash for a discount. It's nominal (5% I believe) but saving money is always a plus - the staff here are friendly but don't speak perfect English. If you're looking for a nail technician to have conversations with, this prob isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a nail salon to get fleeky nails, look no further. - they close on Sundays - if you have brittle/flimsy nails and are getting a gel mani, ASK FOR A SECOND TOP COAT. My nails are the worst, but the second coat makes them super strong. They don't look thick (a huge pet peeve of mine), and my manis ALWAYS last at least 3 weeks. Cheers! read more

This place is run down. They barely greet you when you come in and everything is dirty. I came in for a pedi and it took the woman a few minutes to even seat me, not because they were busy, because she was slow moving and on the phone. During lunch rush. My POS pedi took and hour. And then she had to be kidding me asking if I then wanted a mani. Yea right. I had to have someone come over and fix my pedi because I kept trying to tell her as she is painting my nails that the edges of my toenails were jagged and she kept telling me later, shooing me and continued painting. Finally I exclaimed that the nails aren't smooth and you can't keep painting them until they are filed correctly. Because they looked plain bad. Another girl came and fixed them. She barely scrubbed or massaged me at all and took out hot stones and basically just wiped them on me. I honestly feel bad for the woman, because I feel badly that this is her job, but $24 for a POS pedi is not acceptable. This is honestly the worst pedi I've ever gotten. read more

As a native New Yorker, I have a few trusted nail salons that I go to in various neighborhoods, depending on what's convenient for me on a certain day. Yesterday I was in desperate need for a manicure in midtown. So I researched Coco Ruby Salon and was impressed with the reviews, so I decided to give them a try. I have to say, my manicurist was amazing! I had to remove my gel manicure, and soak off my tips (which is a tedious process). This lovely woman was extremely gentle and patient. She then proceeded to give me a beautiful new French tip manicure with a UV gel topcoat, all for the low price of $45!!!! I was expecting to pay soo much more for all of her great work. So that was a nice surprise. She was very sweet and gracious. This is my new midtown nail salon. read more

You know what I dislike in most nail salons? Behind the fake smile they discuss you in their language. If you take longer choosing a nail polish they talk, if you have an additional request, they talk. And not in a nice tone. I find it very rude and uncomfortable. Not in this salon. The owner was genuinely nice and the manicure ladies were very pleasant. Maria did a good job with my nails. I love that they have massage chairs and while she was doing my pedicure I reclined and got a nice back massage. Oh, btw, mani+pedi - $30.50 read more

So I decided to try out Coco Ruby after finding out that my preferred nail salon closed for good. I saw that Coco had good reviews on yelp, and had good pricing on gel manicures that I desperately needed. It might only be me, but I feel like 8th avenue around 34th street is the shadiest place in the city. So I wasn't sure what to think of having to go to a second floor for a nail salon. I like to be able to see the business I'm walking into. So I go on Thursday about 6, and business is booming. The pedicure chairs are almost full, the manicure desks are also almost all in use. I was greeted and asked to choose a color and was told to be seated while I waited. Waiting was about 15 mins. I got the older lady who was so funny. She dashes around the nail salon. So she would dash from her station, to the reception area. Her manicure was great. She asked me what shape I wanted, and normally I get a square shape. But she suggested I get a round shape since some nails had broken and it would be even this way. She did about 3 coats of polish, which did change the color of the polish that I had chosen but it wasn't a big deal for me. The reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the following: the price of a gel manicure is $30 so I gave her $40 in cash. She came back with $5 as my change. I loved her work, loved the shape, loved the polish job. I would've given her the full $10 as tip had she given me back my full change. Because she decided on her own tip, I left her with only the $5 she took from me. SIDENOTE: I dont think this is the most hygienic place. They have a random liquid in a bottle that says, Antiseptic that they spray on your hands. For all I know, that could be just water when it doesn't have any manufacturer labels. Also, there is no cleaning of the tools or even that toaster oven looking thing that sanitizes the tools. read more

I stopped in today for a mani/pedi and some waxing before catching the LIRR home because I knew everything in my area would be closed by the time I got there. I waited for a good 2 minutes before someone asked what service I wanted. I waited a few more minutes before being shown to a pedicure chair. The girl worked quickly and didn't really ask me any questions. Before I knew it was putting base coat on my toenails. She didn't use a pumice stone or lotion on my incredibly dry feet... So what was the point of this pedicure? I wish I had noticed sooner because I would have spoke up. She was more attentive with my manicure, but didn't polish up to my cuticle. There is a small gap at the base of each nail. Overall, they do look good. She took me to the back for waxing. I requested she wax my eyebrows, lip and chin. She didn't seem to know what waxing your chin and lip entailed and asked me to point to what parts she wanted me to remove the hair from. I was a bit baffled to say the least. I wouldn't come back not recommend this place. read more

I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry after my experience here. I was already wary of the negative reviews prior to coming here, but thought since I'm coming for an extremely basic service, that it shouldn't matter. So I had acrylic press-on nails for a couple weeks (from a different salon). One of them came off, and because I work in a corporate environment and it looks tacky AF to have 1 nail missing, I urgently came to this place to get it all off. The staff couldn't seem to understand that these were acrylics...either that or they have never had to remove them before, which is surprising for a nail salon. My "technician" took out, and I kid you not, an old metro card and started jamming it in my nails to get them off. At first, I was a little shocked because I'm sure this was not the right way to remove acrylics, nor is it professional. But I was so desperate to get rid of them, and she was doing it gently, that I didn't mind too much. However, when paying the bill, I got charged a whopping $10 to get them removed. I repeat, I paid 10 bucks to essentially have someone use a metro card to remove my nails...something I could have just done myself. I asked why it's 10 bucks and the Asian lady at the counter said that's what it costs. I was speechless that I quickly paid, tipped the nail girl (now that I think about it, I'm not sure why I did...), and left. I hate causing a scene and I avoid it as much as possible, so here I am expressing my grievances on Yelp. I would avoid this place like the plague if I were you. read more

I got a gel manicure and regular pedicure by Maria at the referral of a friend. When I walked up to the door of the salon, I rang the bell (there is also a bell for a tattoo place) and proceeded to walk up a flight of stairs, which in my opinion wasn't very eye-appealing. Once I got to the top, there lay the salon. I was greeted with a kind of half-shy smile from a few of the ladies and asked who Maria was since it seemed like I was going to have to do most of the talking. Maria patiently waited as I made one of the biggest decisions that anyone who has ever gotten a mani-pedi, has had to make. Choosing the perfect color. The pedicure she gave me was kinda heavenly and the gel manicure has lasted through swimming pools, beach water, sand, dirt, cooking, and more. Maria was patient, friendly, and laid back. The bathroom was terrible! read more

Came in on a Friday around 1pm. Got an Acrylic Fill In that cost me $30. A little more than usual but Choie(?) did a great job so it was worth it. The shop is located on the 2nd Fl and is quiet and clean. The workers were courteous and took their time (no rush jobs). They have a large selection of OPI and Essie polishes. My only complaint is that I made an appointment but it took 20 minutes before someone started my nails. Will probably go there again since I've been to 3 other nail shops and this is the first to get it right. Hopefully I won't have to wait the next time. read more

Coco Ruby charges standard prices for manicure/pedicure combos in the city but they're clean & on the more decent side. The manicurist used a hot stone to massage my legs during my pedicure so I definitely appreciated that. However, she was a bit messy though in terms of applying the nail polish (outside the nail bed), even though she wasn't in a rush... I came here on a calm Sunday w/ a friend so there wasn't really an excuse. Slightly disappointed in that =/ read more

$20 for a regular pedicure, pretty standard for Manhattan prices (of course you can always find cheaper). I just walked in and it seemed like they were pretty empty. It came out pretty nice and the girl was friendly. It was a pretty basic service, didn't blow my mind or anything, but I'll probably come back if I'm in the area. I got a gel manicure there this morning. In and out in under an hour, pretty good manicure. I was not blown away by it, but up to par with other gel manicures I have received. As some other Yelpers mentioned there is an issue of cleanliness, which I too saw. The tools used to clean my nails were not sanitized. In the time I was there nothing left nor entered the sanitizing machine. The gel manicure was $31, which is fair for the area. I would go back for convenience read more

First time at this nail salon and had a very pleasant experience with Naila. I walked in without an appointment in hopes of getting one nail fixed, but decided to get them all done. I went for a gel-fill with shellac colour in a reverse heart shape French. The gel fill itself took longer than what I'm used to but Naila was meticulous and never rushed. The reverse French came out just as I wanted; I had originally chosen a light colour but it didn't show up, and Naila was patient whilst letting my indecisive self choose a different colour. The prices are a little on the higher side but the salon is clean, quiet and the nail techs are friendly and take their time. read more

Until I had the unfortunate experience of breaking a nail during work I never realized how many shops do not do natural nail repairs. Coco Ruby is the only walk-in nail salon in midtown (I called maybe six places that day) that 1) knew what I was talking about and 2) offered the service. The repair was rough but it held for weeks until the break grew out and the tech tried to match the original color. read more

I was here a few months back, and the technician did a nice job, but the gel manicure lasted maybe a week. I foolishly came here a second time 5 days ago because of its convenient location... big mistake. I booked my appointment through an app, and they charged me an additional 8 dollars at the salon, even though I received the exact same service as the last time. The older woman took 2 hours for a terrible job. I bite my nails so she was obsessed with picking off the broken skin on my nail bed. It hurt so much, and it seemed so unsanitary. One of the acrylics I had just peeled off 5 days after application. Won't be back again. read more

I am so disappointed in the pedicure I got here today. The girl clipped my cuticles so poorly that I was bleeding. She said nothing and just douse my feet in antiseptic fluid which burned liked crazy. She did a half ass job on my callus scrub and charged me $12 extra for it. She didn't address the fact that my toes were still bleeding either. The manager/owner didn't even think to approach me about what happened nor did the woman who did my pedicure think to inform her that she destroyed my toes. Never coming here again. read more

This is probably one of the worst manicures I've gotten. Not only did the technician inflict several injuries on me (pushed my cuticles so far back it hurt, cut my cuticles without care that I bled in three different spots), I watched the technician next to me use a cuticle cutter to trim her own nails...meaning they do not clean their tools between use. EXTREMELY UNSANITARY. The technician also left my nails rough on the ends...like she didn't use a nail file to smooth them out AND I can see the distinction between the two layers. I could have done a better job myself. Extremely disappointed in this place and will absolutely never return for a $16 shit manicure. read more

The salon is so annoying to find but so is everything in that area. It's a highly congested, heavy people traffic part of the city. No amount of bitching about that is going to change the location's already annoying qualities. That being said, I had a wonderful experience there today. My nail lady Julia was sweet, didn't talk my ear off, and listened very keenly to my directions. She did exactly what I wanted, and then some. I am always cautious my first time at any salon, having had many bad experiences, i like to dip my toe in the water first. I got a regular French Manicure, but now after this experience I will opt for the Gel French Manicure in the future... They do a phenomenal job here. Pedicures looked on point too. They also have a lot of neat treatments and add-ons. Considering the location, the place itself is very serene, and relaxing. You get what you pay for, cheap price for a pretty good gel french manicure. Finally a nail salon for meditative introverts! Shhhhh ... this is not a place where clients or nail technicians chat. It's a little weird to sit in such silence, but it's relaxing once you let your self settle into it. Maria was patient in listening to changes I requested (e.g. nail shape, french manicure thickness, etc), but I wouldn't go to her again.
