Treehugger Burger (vegetarian)
Suvi P.

The veggie burger I had here was so good it went to my all time top 5 due to the great veggie patty and tasty sweet american bun. We visited Cock's & Cows on a Monday at 1PM and there weren't very many other customers at the same time. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was ok - probably more interesting in the evening.

Cheeseburger with bacon

Good ole American burgers and milkshakes! Cocks and Cows were voted best burger by AOK (a Danish blog) and given my husband's quest to find the best burger, we came here on a Saturday afternoon. Food: 4/5 The milkshakes were delicious! We had the strawberry milkshake and the chocolate espresso, both were amazingly good. It was topped with whipped cream (the good stuff, not cool whip), sprinkles and a maraschino cherry (the cherry tasted bad, don't eat it). The burgers were also quite tasty: cheese and bacon burger, "Illegal" which is guacomole and the jalapeno is served on the side. You could choose the type of bread it is served on and the beef patty was moist and juicy (medium rare). They used romaine lettuce instead of iceberg lettuce which gave it a nice and consistent crunch. Of note: burgers are consumed with a fork and knife in Europe, and given the size of this burger I would recommend cutting it in half before attempting to eat it with your hands. My only complaint is that they put way too much ketchup in my bacon burger. The twister fries (aka curly fries) are standard, fried and delicious. You could order various types of mayo as dipping sauce but I had them with ketchup. Service: 2/5 This place does takes reservations which is unfortunate because it is really popular and you end up having a large crowd waiting for tables while there are plenty of tables that have been reserved. Hence, my advice is to make reservations if you can. Otherwise, arrive before popular meal times (1pm and 6pm). Also unfortunate is that this place is understaffed. There is an outside courtyard and barnhouse that has additional seating, and our server was assigned to both these locations and several tables inside. We waited for 15 minutes and didn't see her so I had to go inside to find our server and ask for the bill. By the time she got to our table she was visibly stressed and ended up handing us the wrong bill. (advice: always double check your bill before paying) Atmosphere: 4/5 This place is very rustic and hip. We were seated in the outside barn and it had heat lamps and blankets which makes for a cosy and interesting experience. Inside all the tables were abuzz with people and you can tell that this is a popular location. Value: 4/5 It cost around 300 kr for 2 people, which isn't too bad considering Copenhagen. The burgers are huge and you will leave feeling quite full.

Great place with plenty of outdoor seating (with rain coverage) in their courtyard for a bite to eat. The menu is simple - cow, chicken or veggie burgers with variations, choices for sides and dips. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger which was thick and served pink. I wrongly chose a whole grain bun, which was nice but a bit stiff so didn't hug my burger and salad so they just slid out. We also had a BBQ chicken burger which was also cooked very well and again, we chose the wrong bun - a white bun. What we actually should've ordered were the 'American Sweet' which is actually much like a soft brioche which is so hot right now as a burger bun! Service was friendly. All the waiters spoke English and the patrons were largely tourists like myself! Pop in if you need shelter from the rain and are hungry. I'm sure it's not the BEST burger Copenhagen has to offer as its only the first one I've tried here.

The Governator

Three of us arrived and chose to sit on the roof top terrace. Instantly greeted by real friendly staff who seated us and ensured we were comfortable. I had the Governator, which totally terminated my hunger whilst a vegetarian friend of mine had the tree hugger...he said it was the best vegetarian burger he has had whilst in Copenhagen. The chilli fries were absolutely awesome with the perfect amount of crunch and chilli, which was all washed down with two jugs of dark and stormy cocktails! The roof top terrace had a relaxed atmosphere with bench seats that were covered in sheep skins and heat lamps that kept the chilled wind at bay. Great location for groups. I'll be back

Best. Burgers. Ever. I had "The Governator," curly fries, and a draft beer, and I have to say it was the best burger I've had after years living in Europe and Scandinavia. You can't go wrong here. Good food, good atmosphere, and good prices. Definitely recommended. Just a tip, make a reservation. The line gets long quick.

The governor

Considering the rest of the reviews here, I think this place was overrated. I have eaten much nicer burgers than this. The size of the burgers is big anyway and the price is OK. The taste was nothing special though and the service was mediocre. We ordered the governor and the illegal.

Love the branding in the burger buns

Very good quality food and great portion sizes. Good value for money. I had the Governator burger with chilli fries, leaving no room to try a dessert.

Aside from loving the name, the food is good. It's not the best burger I've had, but not bad at all. Service was ok.

A popular place in Copenhagen that makes original and creative burgers. Good spot to visit before you go out in Copenhagen nightlife!

The burgers are perfectly cooked, and the crisp vegetables and pillowy bun make everything even better! There is a nice variety of canned beverages, including beer, and we stuck with soda. The employees are friendly and definitely proud of their work, as they should be. Be forewarned that, at least at this location, there are no places to sit, and there is just a counter to stand and eat at. We were on the move and figured we'd just eat there. Even if you take it to a hotel room, you might stink it up for a while! Therefore, standing and eating isn't the worst plan, especially when it's this food. (Time to drool like Homer Simpson.) My husband randomly brings this up when someone mentions burgers, he sees one in a commercial, etc. This restaurant sets the standard for burgers anywhere in the world. I am very glad I did some nerdy research and pointed him toward it, because we both are so glad we went :')

The cheeseburger we had was very tasty, and we also tried the French fries with their herb dip, which was a delicious addition. One thing to keep in mind is that it's fairly common at some places in Copenhagen to charge extra for condiments such as ketchup, mustard, and dipping sauces. Overall, the burger was excellent, but I personally still prefer POPL, the burger restaurant from the team behind Noma.

Ranked as the 6th best burger in the world by Food and Wine magazine in 2024 ("Organic beef…read morecheeseburger with onions, pickles, and a house Gasoline Sauce. $16 "), the Gasoline Grill hamburger restaurant has multiple locations throughout Denmark. It's one of those things where I was glad I stopped by, but didn't really experience anything with the food or ambiance that would make me recommend this as a out-of-the way stop that the ranking would seem to suggest. This one is the original, using the station building as a walk-up window with the kitchen inside. They have a few picnic tables on the side for outdoor dining, and I do think that it's important to eat the burger as soon as possible. The interesting thing is that it is still a working gas station, with an island with multiple pumps dispensing petrol (which I didn't see being used during my wait) and some electric charging stations (which was actively being used). I was able to place my order (nothing customized, just wanted exactly as they described after about a 10 minute wait, got my lemonade right away, and waited another 10 minutes to get my food (everything is made-to-order). The cheeseburger was 110 DKK, fries was 40, lemonade was 35, and dipping sauce was 10 with 10 off for being a combo. So total was 185 DKK (about $28.88 in USD). The process and food reminded me very much of a Shake Shack, with the young workers working together to produce well-made smashburgers using great ingredients. The color scheme reminds me of a Wingstop, though. I squeezed between a couple of single diners and dug in. The burger was good, with that loose smash burger quality. It came with a mayo based thousand island like sauce (their gasoline sauce), and had tomato, pickles, red onion slices, and a gooey, plentiful cheese. The lemonade was good, and the hint of elderflower made it memorable. The crinkle fries were good, well done fried which I appreciate. Ate the meal fast before my hands started to freeze up, tossed the remains in the gas station islands garbage bin and was on my way. I really do think a food like this is all about where you eat it...if on an airplane, or at a ballpark, or at the beach...yeah, I could see the appeal. But at a gas station in freezing weather on a picnic table...not so much.

This place completely hit the spot. The burger was everything you want; juicy, flavorful, and…read moreperfectly cooked, with just the right balance of toppings that didn't overwhelm the meat. The bun held up beautifully without getting soggy, and the fries on the side were crispy and golden. You can tell they really care about quality ingredients here. The ambiance was great too; casual and relaxed but still with a cool vibe that makes it feel like more than just a quick stop. It's the kind of spot where you can hang out with friends, enjoy good food, and not feel rushed. Service was excellent. The staff was friendly, quick with recommendations, and checked in at just the right times without hovering. Everything came out promptly, and you could see they genuinely wanted customers to have a good experience.
